The Eagles BEST weapon just got BETTER...

it's not hard to debate that the Eagles currently have the best receiver in franchise history on their roster but despite a record-breaking 2023 season a highly combative media campaign and newly released details on his season ending injury people close to AJ Brown and AJ himself think 2024 is about to be his best season by [Music] far first off how do we know that AJ Brown is actually going to be better than he was in 2023 this year in 2024 what's different about AJ Brown this off season versus where he was this time last year Well in order to find out we actually have to start from the very beginning Philadelphia traded away the number 18 overall pick in the number 101 overall pick to the Tennessee Titans during the 2022 NFL draft and a Move That Sent shock waves through both the NFL and the Eagles organization up until drafting Devonte Smith the year prior from Alabama Philadelphia's top receivers since 2014 included Jordan Matthews Zack Zs a tight end for straight years and Travis fogam the Eagles had been a franchise that had missed on receiver after receiver and accidentally drafted bust after bust and apparently had finally given up a massive haul for a brand new pass catching weapon and the hopes that AJ Brown could do something that no other Eagle receiver had done since desan Jackson and that is simply be really really good oh and let's not get our history confused here at the time of the trade AJ Brown was not considered an elite receiver he was good but he was nowhere near considered the elite receiver he is today and again I'm not saying he was bad with the Tennessee Titans he was pretty darn good but for instance after the 2021 Season Pro Football Focus ranked him the 14th best receiver in the league that was behind Hunter Renfro Debo Samuel and Chris Godwin fast forward to his first year in Philadelphia started 2022 season and brown bolted on the wide receiver Center Stage he had a massive regular season with games that included his six catch Buck 56 three touchdown wiing of the Steelers in Philadelphia and his eight catch two touchdown Masterpiece yes against his former team the Tennessee Titans fast forward even further ahead to February of 2023 and AJ Brown was making plays on the biggest stage in sports Super Bowl 57 and had it not been for some late game Patrick Mahomes magic and Jonathan Ganon just being Jonathan Ganon Brown might have easily walked away from 2022 season with a Super Bowl and the Undisputed best receiver in the NFL but instead as we of course all regrettably remember Philadelphia lost that Super Bowl and Brown still found himself outside of pff's top five wide receiver rankings following the 2022 year still though despite the very successful 2022 campaign the inaugural season in Philadelphia his 2023 year happen with stuff that we really have never seen happen to an eagle receiver in NFL history for instance AJ open 2023 kind of quiet he had a seven catch 79 yard game in the rain against the Patriots and then the four catch 29 yard sideline drama field Monday night win against the Vikings which of course started the first barrage of media attacks after that week two win however Brown would then go on a historic tear setting the NFL record for consecutive games with over 125 receiving yards with back to back to back to back to back to back back monster games suddenly the great but again at time not considered top three receiver in the NFL was getting the respect he deserved and the media now knowed him the darling receiver of the league and even an MVP candidate at the time but the roller coaster that had been going up for weeks suddenly shifted and started pointing downhill Brown was held to just one catch in the fourth quarter comeback win at Arrowhead which also featured another sideline tie raid more media scrutiny and then of course the start of the historic stretch of games where the Eagles collapsed end the season Philadelphia is ill prepared coaching and really complete lack of Defense started a three-game skid at home against the 49ers that will result in the birds losing five of their last six games oh and to make matters worse the media continued to reain down attacks on AJ Brown followed by AJ Brown getting injured on a really stupid play against the New York Giants in the final game of the season this caused AJ Brown to miss the birds predictable playoff loss versus the Bucks in humiliated fashion and head to the off season seemingly disgruntled unhappy and not really thrilled with the current state of the Eagles and of course like clockwork following the end of the eag just historic collapse to 2023 the Philadelphia media jumped on the idea that they had another to like figure at wide receiver in Philadelphia and of course as we know now this would not be the end of brown time in Philadelphia but actually the beginning much to the dislike of that again upset Eagle media Brownwood start his 2024 offseason campaign by calling into WIP the local sports radio in Philadelphia ripping them to their face and calling out the madeup stories about his unhappiness with the birds I got a couple questions for you guys though for sure what's the deal what's what's the deal like you guys supposed to be supporting Philly but you know it don't turns turn out it don't turn out to be that you know what I'm saying like why why make up so many rumors you know what I'm saying like because most of the rumors don't don't even be real rumors these These are rumors that you guys are making up and everybody run with like so what's the deal like and now thanks to a newly released ESPN article by ESPN Eagles reporter Tim mcmanis it was at this time that brown began to work on the newest version of himself Brown had suffered a grade two MCL sprain in that pointless game versus the New York Giants at the end of the season and shortly after that he headed down to Florida to begin working out with his longtime trainer and conditioning coach Joey Gario McManus wrote about this time by stating quote first things first they had to get the knee right Gario said Brown was about 75 to 80% healthy upon arrival and that there was some stability stuff that needed to be worked on they focused on building up strength and and around the knee and gradually Advanced to his change of Direction progressions we didn't rush him knowing that we had time Gario said before you knew it two to 3 weeks in he wasn't even thinking about his knee it was an afterthought with his knee right Brown then set another new goal for himself get in the best shape of his life which to some might seem a little bit odd the receiver did have, 1400 plus receiving yards in back-to-back seasons and set the eagle single season receiving record in 2023 how can you do both of those things without being in the best shape of your life well Brown didn't think he was and clearly he wasn't satisfied Brown though not only focused on his usual speed and strength work during this offseason mcmanis revealed in the ESPN article that brown has send change ched up his diet in order to meet his goals for the first time he did a really good job this year of honing into the nutritional side of it his dietitian did a great job with him and he's really bought into it we saw a huge drop in his body fat percentage we saw like a 2% drop in just a few weeks because he was so D in nutritionally he was so disciplined on the weekends our running joke was is he's staying away from cake and chips those are like his vices the end result was a leaner cut up brown who weighed in around 225 lbs while boasting a body fat percentage in the mid sevs now Brown's a vertical jump of 38 and half to off season is 2 in higher than his combine vertical jump back in 2019 even though he's 5 years older from his combine days and weighs more now than he did coming out of Old Miss Health conditioning and nutrition all heading in the right direction Brown would now face off against the other issue happening in his career the Philly media at this point in the early offseason most of the Philadelphia media would tell you AJ Brown is not long for Philadelphia he's going to play one final season and he's going to be disgruntled and leave and you have another giant wide receiver divorce just 20 years later in Philadelphia because I got a trade idea God and this is one that I think you're going to like and it's one that uh I think we all should like because it it's becoming more and more apparent that they should go do this trade the Eagles should go out there and they should trade for Patrick Cain this off season the Eagles should trade for a for for Patrick Cain and the guy I'm proposing to get it done is AJ Brown the Eagles should trade AJ Brown to go get Patrick Cain but of course that didn't happen as Brownwood ink the largest wide receiver contract extension in history on the day of the NFL draft spending his place in the birds roster for at least the next three to four seasons and AJ wasn't done there think about all the offseasons where Elite receivers Miss voluntary mini camps and OTAs because they have better things to do brown instead was first in the building first in the route lines and The Bird's number one receiver during every single voluntary and involuntary offseason workout program where you could see him teaching leading and helping grow the new group of receivers alongside him following one of these many practices Brown told the media that he thinks he's in the best shape of his life first of all man I love football you know I was itching to get back you know and uh and I wanted to you know uh be around the guys you know if I can help help somebody with something you know I do that and um you know just just trying to be a a good leader yeah I won't get into into what I what I'm doing but uh yeah I always ask myself at the end of the season can I work harder you know U what else can I do you know and those are the questions I asked myself and the answer is always yes oh remember the head coach that the media told everyone AJ hated well Nick serani he also raved about his wide receiver one and said AJ Brown has been putting in more work than he's ever seen in the past few months AJ Brown has seemingly Rewritten himself both on and off the football field this off season and although little fans were never against him from the start AJ's worked extremely hard to receive the benefit of the doubt going forward and what's it look like going forward what kind of goals does he have for 202 before and Beyond well in mcmanus' article he said quote he wanted that first team All Pro he wanted all the accolades that come along with that he wanted to win a Super Bowl that was the biggest thing we didn't get to realize any of those even though we had a great year 1500 yards and back-to-back years six game stretch we had over 125 yards per game in his mind he feels like a failure it's why you love him and why he is who he is because he's such a competitor he's never satisfied what does this mean going forward I think it clearly means the Philadelphia Eagles have a new look AJ Brown heading into year three in Philadelphia does it mean he's going to be 2300 yard guy and break every single record in the NFL well the answer is no but is he leaner Stronger Faster can jump higher and maybe a slightly better teammate than he was in 2023 well that's kind of up for you to decide but Brown understands his role now be the number one receiver in the National Football League help the Eagles win a Super Bowl and be the number one receiver on a football team that has plenty of other Talent around him but also a lot of young Talent needing a little bit of grooming from an established veteran and what happens if the Eagles do get a better version or maybe the best version of AJ Brown in 2024 well the birds might finally be able to sit back and say we have the Undisputed best receiver in the National Football
