hey everyone kaley your friendly neighborhood hairstylist here and today i'm going to be eating my words just a little bit as i show you how i use my dyson air wrap okay so some of you know back in 2018 i tried the dyson air wrap for the first time and it almost broke me and then if you saw this amazon tool review video in which i found one of the actual worst hair styling tools i've ever used i told the whole story about how i came back around on dyson watch that if you want to know like so much more but basically it was the only thing that i could get to style my botched curtain bangs and then because i was using it every day to do my bangs i started using it everywhere else and i figured it out and now i love it what the heck so i'm going to be showing you how i use it now but i also thought it would be fun to go down memory lane and figure out what i did wrong in 2018 talk about what you should actually do and i'm gonna bring in anna laura to be a long hair tester as well just in case my change of heart is just because i had a change of hair if you're excited for this video be sure to hit that like button to help support my channel and if you're new here hit the subscribe button and join the braidaholic family here on kaylie melissa where we learned all things hair all that being said let's start with a little journey through time hi hello hair change because i have not yet used the dyson today i thought it would be good to go back and look at how things went in 2018. okay so in this video i went through my normal routine i went through unboxing the dyson and then i showed you guys me trying to use it several times so i'm just gonna skip straight to trying to use it that's not hard i'm gonna yep so you can see that i'm kind of struggling a little bit to get all the hair on the curler and then i did not turn it off when i took it out key mistake okay very bouncy very bouncy much bouncier than the curls that i did with my curling iron you are immediately playing with it though i don't like that it's not curled up here but it is very curled down here that was a real problem and i think that that's based on the length of the barrels that i was working with at the time okay so those first two test curls went pretty well and the results look like what i get now where you have this really pretty ribbony effect the downside is that the ends were a lot more curled than the roots which is kind of still the thing i'll show you guys let's skip forward okay so i'm looking at this now as i'm doing my bottom section and at the time i felt like my hair was wet enough looking back it definitely wasn't okay i think that side is done and i think maybe did i miss pieces on this side or is it already straight because that's concerning look at that what i was doing wrong in that original video were a few things first of all with my hair type i can't mess with it for a little while like i need to do the whole thing wait a second and then mess with it rule number two it was way too dry you guys were right in the comments and i can finally admit that three i think my expectations were just a little bit off dyson at the time was really marketing this as like a replacement for your curling iron and i think when you go in looking for it to be that you're not gonna like it but if you go in looking at it as a new way to dry your hair without using a brush you will probably really like it so it's just kind of setting expectations a little bit and then finally and this is the real thing that i think brought me around is coming out with the longer barrels look at this this is what i was working with this is what i have now i will shout from the rooftops that this should have been the original launch i said it with this i can make sure to kind of candy cane my hair so that all of it is wrapped around and there's no area that's getting more heat or more dry or anything like that which was leading a little bit to those really curled ends and really loose roots i think the final thing that's helping me now versus then is that trends have changed and that bouncy blowout look is in now and that's a lot easier to create with this than a curling iron and i think that's another thing that's really helped me before i go wash my hair and then re-dry it for you i want to thank today's video sponsor better help so not only part of the video okay that being said let's get back to the actual points of the video the dyson air wrap i'm gonna go wash my hair and be back with wet hair in three two one hair has been washed it is in a towel and i've gotta say normally it does get to sit in this towel for quite a while and i'm not blow drying from like fresh out of the shower and that does help to take down the amount of time that i'm using my dryer today we're going straight from the shower so it might take a little longer than usual for me but i do notice that when i go in on wetter hair the results last longer so there is that bonus first things first let's put some products in okay first thing hyaluronic acid treatment from the inky list it adds hydration we love hydration especially when we're about to use a blow dryer which can kind of remove some of the water from our hair always make sure to get these little face guys because they get stressed my highlights have just not been popping lately so i'm trying this living proof color care whipped glaze this is supposed to be like help with brightening and maintaining highlights it does have a bit of a purple tint i don't know that i'm going to see a result in one use but i'm just trying it out see if it works i think i might have used too much let's put some on this towel and do this in the middle and ends because i don't want to overwhelm my hair oh my gosh this smells so good final product is the pca bond repair treatment from the inky list you guys know i love this so i'm using a lot of products because i'm a product junkie i would say generally one care product that you know is like helping your hair out whether it's like moisture color protection whatever and then a heat protectant or a blow-dry styling product to kind of help with the styling that you're about to do all right now we brush it all through starting at the ends working up now that we have products and detangling it's time for the rough dry i have two rough dries that i do i have one where i just attack my hair with air until it's mostly dry and i have another one that's a little bit more targeted and i do that definitely for my bangs most days and some days if i'm feeling a little extra let me give you a quick easiest version demonstration blow dryer attachment turn it on you get it i feel like there is a very small group of people that that works for because for most people that's just going to accentuate texture and tangles that you don't want but if it can work for you it is nice and easy so here's what i do for my bangs and just like a rough dry that's a little bit more poised a little bit more professional first section the bangs switch this out for the brush attachment and i'm gonna take this and brush diagonally back and forth to try and tame the cowlick that i have here and then once it's mostly dry i'm gonna focus on getting the roots just going forward alrighty and you can see that already helps my hair to fall forward in a really pretty way and look even on both sides even though it naturally would have a kind of swirl to it because i want a little curl in my bangs i'm also going to grab the round brush and i'm just going to brush the section forward and back until it feels dry hit it with the cool shot until it feels cold when i say rough dry the bangs i mean styled completely do the bangs first because if they dry wrong they stay wrong you have to re-wet and start again so i just do those first now for everything else you do not have to do this step but i'm going to flip my hair in half because this section of my hair is wavy like really wavy like almost curly and i'm not sure why i can't get all of my hairs to do that guys but because it's just this one section and i want the roots to not look different than the rest of them i'm going to be using this brush attachment and i'm basically going to be doing that diagonal back and forth with the hair again just at the nape of my neck that way it's going to get smoothness but it's also going to get volume because it's being brushed against the way that it's going to fall for max volume obviously you would brush straight up all right i have to remind myself that we do still need it to be wet so this is mostly just trying to get the roots mostly dry we're not trying to completely dry them out and style them like we did with the bangs so that section is already done and honestly this front section is ready to go on the air wrap so i'm just going to focus on this back area that tends to hold on to water a little bit okay we have done the rough dry and i obviously am pretty much always going to spend time styling the bangs i really prefer to do them with the dyson versus curling iron like this is just where i spend my time but you can always just like throw the hairdryer at the rest of the hair and not even worry about like the extra achiever idea you just need to knock the water out of it so that you can wrap it around the curler because if it's too wet it won't wrap around the curler so now for the curls there are so many you can do with the air wrap it's actually amazing but i want to go for kind of like a looser tousled look today and you would think that i would go with the widest attachment for that but i'm actually going to go with the medium which i think is one inch and i exclusively use the long barrels the short ones are dead to me so i'm going to be using this because i know my hair is going to loosen up it does that with the curling iron and it definitely still does that with the dyson i don't know why it didn't occur to me that that would happen when i made the original video but it didn't and if i did want like a tighter curly wavy look i would use the three quarter inch which i actually really really like all right we're gonna go in sections i like to go in three so i do the nape of my neck first you want to detangle get all the hair looking nice and if it's too dry as this is we will spritz it with water all right and i'm going to curl away from my face and i will take about three sections on each side starting in the back moving forward i find that's easiest make sure to get it totally dry when it's on this guy and then turn on the cool shot until it feels totally cool i like to take my section hold it out and let the ends wrap around and when i wind it up i kind of make sure it candy canes and by that i mean that like the root goes here and then the next layer is the middle of the hair and the next layer is the bottom of the hair instead of it all being like overlapping on top of each other and i hold each section until it feels totally dry and then i switch to cool until it feels totally cool and then turn it off take it out and that piece is done and now i don't mess with it it's in hibernation now and you'll find especially in these back sections that there's going to be little hanger honors it's part of the game so what i do is i get my hair all wrapped up on the iron the way i want it and then hold on to the rest of the hair that's not supposed to be on it the higher i get on my head the less that happens so usually once i get to about here i'm like doing this with one hand and like on my computer with the other it's very helpful for multitasking but for this section i definitely find myself kind of holding things where they belong okay you see that this part right here isn't wrapping around the iron that's just because it's too wet so i'm just gonna kind of hang out here until it gets dry enough to wrap around the iron switching barrels and repeating on this side now we're going to let down the next so i'm basically splitting what i have left in half all right and let's brush this out a little bit i go with a little bit smaller pieces for this section and this section just because i like the curl definition there if you're going for like a looser look you would take bigger sections all right we're just going to keep doing that i left on the right side on this section before i dropped it down so i'm gonna do right again and then left i like doing that because then i don't have to change the attachments as often it's the little things this girl is a really good example of the whole candy cane thing because you can see like the root the middle and the end i don't do a whole lot of the like stretching out and back in thing that you see in some dyson videos but i do sometimes like to do that for cooling the section because i feel like it cools it off a little faster but it might also like hypothetically might loosen the curl up a little bit so take that with a little grain of salt these hairs dry so fast like i need to just stop doing any kind of rough dry except on the bangs anywhere forward of my ears but i'm gonna re-wet these too [Music] all right and section two is done let's take down the left one clipping up this section just because i don't want the wet hair sitting on top of the dry hair right now so we're just gonna do this side first and i think just for the sake of showing you the smaller barrel i'm gonna put the three quarter on what i'm gonna do it's a little bit different for the top section is try to get the curl as close to the root as possible so i'm gonna take small sections again and instead of kind of attaching the hair just a couple inches from the ends i'm going to hold the iron up towards the root and just kind of flip the hair and let it all wrap around from there and that way the root is the first point of contact and it's just it takes a little bit better [Music] so dyson gets big before it chills um and i think that's fine we're just gonna accept it for now i know i look a little silly but it's going to come together so i think for my bangs i am going to just quickly hit them with a curling attachment just to get a little bit more bit i'm just going to do kind of one curl placed diagonally on each side and then brush right through it because i don't want it to be like super bent repeat on the other side so now that we've let things cool we're just gonna rake through let's hairspray the bangs all right so we're big we're large we're in charge there's a lot going on here a lot of days my bangs and i and the dyson rap all get along and we're a big happy family today this area is just being a little silly and i did just get my hair cut so i'm not quite used to it yet so i'm gonna grab a curling iron just to this side a little bit all right so while that warms up i'm going to add a little bit of oil to the middle and ends of my hair it is kind of the upside of doing the dyson on my hair normally i can't add oil but right now so fluffy i can i'm going to try the juicy oil that everyone's hyped about let's just see if it lives up to the hype okay well the smell is divine i really like the texture mostly oily but like a tiny bit serum-y ooh and it has a lot of shine okay okay okay you see you just [Music] all right so here are our bouncy waves this is definitely like a big voluminous option you can always go more minimal or harder depending on what you want something that occurred to me while i was doing all this today is one of the reasons that i might have so disliked it in 2018 was because i was expecting it to be a one-to-one replacement for my normal hair dryer wind tunnel and then curling iron routine and it's just not gonna be because it's not a curling iron and it's not a blow dryer it's something in between it's significantly easier than a round brush and a normal blow dryer on yourself hands down it is less precise and a little bit more time consuming than a curling iron so in those ways it's not the same it's kind of a happy medium and why i've decided that i am willing to adjust my expectations for that is that i get so much more volume and bounce and body that i don't get with any other tool or method so there's that and my blow dries last so much longer in between so instead of three days i can go five days obviously there's a ton of benefits to that a final benefit is that even though it does get fairly hot it is less direct heat on your hair than a curling iron so i am trying to find ways to mitigate the heat on my hair and i feel like this kind of works into that so that's why i've changed my whole brain regarding the dyson air wrap but i also know my hair is a lot shorter than last time i used it so i'm gonna have anna laura give it a little try and give her thoughts as well and she's actually coming in tomorrow but i'm gonna go ahead and call her now um oh anna laura i'm here that's all i had to do this whole time that's it that's all you had to say and i would magically show up clean all right so we're gonna have you try the dyson very excited about that so first things first let's get you some products i want you to try the briochiel be gentle be kind oat milk and aloe and then you can use the jisu hair oil and the uh heat activator from unite so you've tried this once before i have i went pretty long time without using it and then i did use it and then i loved it and then i was very mad about loving it because of the price tag i'm excited to do this from like fully wet to dry because the other times i did it i think i just like was kind of not expecting a lot i was like i'll just go for it but i was like try it try it no i wasn't really trying i had very low expectations all right well here you go you can detangle away your hair is actually probably just about perfect to do this yeah do you want the extra white barrels or okay extra wide and extra long yes ma'am so what i think you should do is go in three sections so like one two three yeah um curl everything away from your face okay you wanna make sure that you're taking um sections that are small enough for you to be able to candy cane around the barrel okay and you always to hit it with a cool shot button all right and then my rule is that you don't touch it until you're all the way down with the whole hair because even though it's well it's going to be really hard for me i know basically if you end up using the dyson and you feel like no matter what it's a little too tight play with the hair after it comes off the curly iron wand thing attachment i don't know what to call this well since i'm going with the wider barrels i definitely will refrain from playing then i'm ready all right well i'll supervise and then i'll just let you go sounds good all right turn it up and take it down beautiful she said don't touch it but i really want to i'm just gonna let it fully like set for a second just like this and then i'll come back when i've got kaylee to talk to okay sis this is looking pretty good i'm loving it all right so the whole point of having you here was to be my long hair control yes you went through the previous experience very much with me you were my emotional support yeah you saw my breakdown my general idea is that i had kind of the wrong expectations the trends were different and i had a short barrel yeah do you feel like with those things accounted for this is a better experience i do absolutely i can confidently say this is the easiest way to get this look on my hair and so i've been doing the whole you know curling iron rollers i figured it out enough but this is like so much easier like it's my brain just goes on autopilot when i'm doing it so i do know why as a long hair gal you lean more in the dry hair direction in the first video just a little kaylie's long hair advocate there because it's so it is a lot more easy to manage your hair on the curling yeah and it feels like you have more control yeah and i did talk to somebody at dyson because i was like guys i'm having the hardest time with this and they were like um hairstylists usually do because you're used to having a level of control yeah and you're supposed to just have an easy time with this right and you have to get over that i agree with you on that okay cool so long hair approved check now we understand what i did wrong we understand why it works hopefully that will help you guys if you have a similar issue that being said thank you for coming in and i'm going to skip ahead actually back to my final thoughts forward rewind bye guys all right and back to original filming day i hope you guys enjoyed and laura's thoughts just to finish this out i really did come around on the dyson air app i think that my expectations were off and i had some user error and i think that's why i had such a bad experience before so it's been a little bit of just kind of growth in changing my own mind and a little bit of actually learning how to use the tool correctly and probably a good chunk of actually coming out with long barrels i really love that i get to continue to grow and learn on my channel and obviously i'm gonna give you guys the best information that i have at the time so from the best information i had at the time in 2018 i did not like the dyson air app from the best information i have in 2021 they want me over so overall yes it's a good tool it did a good job and i really appreciate the innovation um i totally understand if it is out of price range because it is such a pricey item i really do wish that they could just pair down by like 10 to 15 even on the price but look around see if you can get it on sale see if you can get it refurbished but also know that there are some really great like round brush blow dryers out there that can help you get that volume and body if that's really what you're wanting after watching this video so you don't have to shell out the hundreds and hundreds of dollars if it's not feasible for you i never want you to feel like you have to do that to have beautiful hair that you love i just want to give a really good well-rounded opinion on how this one tool works and it does work really well so if it's feasible for you i do recommend it i am a changed woman i like the dyson air wrap now who am i but i think that's it for today's video if you did like it make sure to hit that like button to help support my channel if you're new here hi hit the subscribe button and
