reality of that great Council was that in truth Egon was the only true viable option to assume the crown given the age the other possible claimants especially after maest aan Targaryen had rejected calls for him to be released from his maer's vow to assume the throne even being the only true viable option and favored by a majority there were those Lords who found his unconventional childhood traveling the realm with the Hedge Knight made him unsuitable as king but regardless in one of the most unlikely series of events to occur in the long history of House Targaryen the fourth son or the fourth son ended up upon the iron throat with many now wondering what kind of ruler this unlikely king would be but with Egon married to Betha Blackwood and the pair already having several children it was hoped at the very least he would be able to provide much needed stability for the house of the Dragon the First Act of King Egon the 5's Reign was the arrest of Brendan Rivers blood Raven the infamous King's hand who had been the driving force of politics in westos for decades egon's reasons for for the arrest split the opinion of those assembled at the great Council as he had had the blood Raven arrested for the murder of an's Blackfire whom had come to the great Council from tyrosh to press his own claim to the Iron Throne being promised safe passage by rivers to No One surprise blood Raven did not deny that he had led The Pretender into his power by the offer of a safe conduct after all the Blackfire Pretenders were the enemies of the realm plotting to overthrow House Targaryen while in hiding in the free cities blood Raven contended that he had sacrificed his own personal honor for the good of the realm and would do so again without question as he had done many times before without most at court even knowing the full extent of his clandestine actions at the end of the day the saying of the small folk had some truth to it Lord blood Raven did truly have a thousand eyes on one though many agreed at the time and were pleased to see another Blackfire Pretender removed King Egon felt that he had no choice but to condemn the hand lest the word of the Iron Throne be seen as worthless if the king allowed such dishonorable actions in his name any maast of History knows the impact and role blood Raven had in the histories of westros especially his actions at the Battle of the Red grass field that ended the first Blackfire Rebellion as well as his work to prevent any attempt by H Blackfire to rise for subsequent attempts his handling of Damon II Blackfire after the shortlived second Blackfire Rebellion was very politically aware with Damon II being the legitimate Blackfire claimant as long as he lived a prisoner under blood Raven's watchful eye his kin could not attempt to Crown another with only Damon II's untimely death Waring this plan but there were also some who claimed that blood Raven was the cause of that untimely death no matter the truth blood Raven was always subject to these kinds of rumors and we have no direct record of any proof either way and again in the wake of the third black fire Rebellion he did advise bter still be executed lest he escape his punishment back to OS to scheme and plan it is fair to say that Brendan Rivers did indeed do much to protect the realm from the Blackfire threats but in terms of the murder of an's Blackfire it might indeed be fair to question blood Raven's motives and ask if his actions really were to protect the realm or to serve his own self-interests and his Vendetta against bitter still and house Blackfire there was much debate as to what blood Raven sentence should be yet after the sentence of death was pronounced King Egon the 5 offered blood Raven a reprieve and an honorable way out to atone for his crimes the CH take the black and join the knight's watch and spend the rest of his days at the wall this Blood Raven did willingly so Brendan Rivers blood Raven one of the most infamous hands of the king and spy Ms to ever hold power set sell from the docks of King's Landing to East watch by the Sea as at the wall in the far north late in that same year of 233 AC historians whether you agree with blood Raven's actions and believe he is misunderstood or believe he earned his sour and feared reputation one thing cannot be debated or denied and that is he
