The Difference Between Director & Producer

walk me through a little bit more of the let's get into the Weeds on that like what it takes for you to take a screenplay create a movie and obviously the the correlation between music and movies something that I'm trying to learn because I've had some actors um and and different people in in that side of of entertainment on the show now and I've befriended a few of them and I I know some friends who are becoming producers and all this stuff and it's a very interesting world to me because just the name producer as a musician means something but then as a in the movie world in the in the in in that world producer means something very different so can you explain to me the difference of that job and how how that's an integral part of making that screenplay become something we get to watch yeah geez um they're they're all there there are several different kinds of producers on a set there's your line producer who's gonna do like budgets and pay the crew and locations and all that stuff he's in the office but then you have your you know co-producer it's like Next Step Up executive producers producers and they vary from television in terms of the creative power or influence you might have on a project they vary from television to film but basically I was both on this a creative producer and what that means is you know I liked directing a little bit more and we'll talk about that but I love producing because you're getting the vision and what the script is and your your making sure that everyone's aligned you're blocking a director to help him and you're sitting down and making sure that you guys and that you've hired the right director you're you're casting you're hiring you're it's basically in this position everything that Alan and I set out to do with this film we were the Guardians of the story if you will in this case and so that is we have a location scout a locations manager you know making sure that they have the proper images and the vision of what we want um you know if there has to be a rewrite to the script communicating with the with the with the writers uh it's literally on this one I did everything and the thing I love the creative part of it but there's a you're on the phone a lot a lot like basically all day long two phones going 14 15 hours a day and you're putting out a lot of fires all the time and with covid so what's nice is if you're on a big budget film you're gonna have four five six seven producers could have more could have three but it's it takes a lot because there we had a 50 person crew on this so there's always going to be issues there's going to be Union things as I said with covid and protocols and I had an amazing crew and a lot of people it's a collaboration thank you
