Joe Strummerβs cousin, Iain Gillies lives in Austin and has been featured in a few documentaries about the Clash. My parents have actually been friends with him since the 80s. When the Gorillaz came to Austin in 2010 he got me back stage and I got to hangout with Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Damon Albarn. They were all extremely friendly and cool. The whole experience was surreal.
I actually met the guy who was casted as the Sheik in the video about 2 years ago. Friend of a friend. That was a complete and total trip.

Great now that song is gonna be stuck in my head all day
Anyone know where the Oil Derrick seen was filmed? That is one of the few scenes that people have yet to locate from the video.
Fuck yeah. Wish I could say I was there at the City Coliseum in 1982 rather than shitting my diapers elsewhere in f/k/a Bubbland.

Now for ID'ing all the Slacker locations...good take on it here: https://endofaustin.com/2014/05/22/the-geography-of-slacker-25-years-later/ (although the street sign was NOT turned for the pap smear scene, that was shot on the east side of the 200 block of San Antonio...2nd street was one-way west-bound and did a no-stop-sign, fuck-you-pedestrian dog-leg to the south to feed traffic back onto Cesar Chavez, which was one-way east-bound after that intersection....)
Wonder if this was the start of over-hyping Austin for a terrific shark jump....Or was it Slacker? Or everyone who didn't get that Slacker was 90% friendly satire--I'd say it's that, with Pam & Jim moving here at the end of The Office nailing the landing.
"I walked the deserted prospect of the modern mind where nothing lived or happened that had not been foreseen. What had been foreseen was the coming of the stranger with money. All that had been before had been destroyed. A new earth had appeared in place of the old made entirely according to plan. "--Wendell Berry
"Party at the moon tower."--Wooderson
Does anyone remember who opened for The Clash when they played City Coliseum ? It was Stevie Ray Vaughan. I don't think the audience knew who was since that was more of a punk audience. He got booed and things thrown at him. But he persisted. He jammed out, doing his full show, playing his guitar behind his back, etc. By the end of the set, the crowd was cheering him on. That day I became a SRV fan.
London Calling is still one of the best albums of all time.
I used to think this song was about a girl named Shria who didn't like her boyfriend going to the cash bar.
