inside these two boxes is the cheapest brand new computer that you can build as of May 12th 2024 and the entire system only cost us about $372 occasionally I get curious to see what kind of PC we can build if we filter our prices from low to high and this is what we came up with and I think the parts and the performance might surprise you to kick things off I bought the ryzen 34100 processor for $68.99 it's actually on AMD Zen 2 architecture which is about two generations old at this point but its Saving Grace is the platform am4 and that's essentially what makes this worth it the motherboard I chose is the ASRock b450m hdv r4.0 now this was only $60 which is a really good price for an am4 motherboard and we can actually overclock on this thing and mess with any voltage and PBO settings that might be really helpful ddr4 Ram is so cheap nowadays so this was pretty simple and straightforward I just chose the cheapest 3200 MHz cast Laten C6 16 GB kit that I could find I could have gone for cheaper Ram but uh the extra $3 to5 is totally worth it in a similar fashion I picked up the cheapest nvme SSD that I could find this is 500 gigs and I bought it for $35 as far as power supplies go I picked up the thermal T smart 500 wat unit for $396 I used this power supply too many times to count at this point and every single time it has worked and served me well next up we have the case which is the most interesting part of this entire build it's the sea s88 BK $31 before shipping $41 with shipping it doesn't look like something that you would buy for a custom PC build and I kind of like that it has some charm to it functionally I think it does its job it has some front vents for airf flow and it comes pre-installed with fans at no extra cost and last but certainly not least we have the video card and I chose the ark A380 6 GB and I wanted to make sure that this PC had a dedicated GPU a year ago I would have skipped over this video card but I think at this price point it offers things that other gpus do not one it has 6 gigs of vram which is better than any of its competitors at the price I bought it $13.50 two it has dedicated rate tracing cores not a lot but it can do it three it's really good at non- gaming things because it has a dedicated av1 Hardware encoder and decoder inside four it has full 16 Lanes now our processor and motherboard only supports pcie3 by eight lanes and so we will take full advantage of this GPU with the rest of our setup but we can't say the same thing for competitors in the same price category so those are all the parts for this build and everything was brand new no secondhand parts none of that let's build it and see how well it does in games often times cheaper components sacrifice build quality or convenience to keep their prices low so I was fully expecting this build to have some kind of obstacle along the way but those never came it was a smooth experience [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I do want to praise the computer case and power supply though this revision of the thermal smart power supply has ribbon cables that are less stiff than the previous one that dramatically improves cable management and Aesthetics there was enough space in the back of the case and the power supply basement it's common to see cases under $50 with very little room so this was a nice surprise the A380 looked phenomenal in my opinion but it did require a little tinkering I had to replace the low profile bracket with an included full height one it didn't take a long time though and after some final touches I finished the computer and I must admit I think it looks pretty good it definitely has a more frugal PC look you can tell that I didn't spend a ton of money on this computer but hey that's it's not a bad thing it just looks its age so to speak for gaming we're going to try something a little different we're going to see if this computer is a pass or a fail something that I can recommend methodically and we're going to split it up into two tests the first test is going to be for PVE and single player games if this computer can hit 40 FPS at 1080p without it looking like complete hot dog water then I would say it's a pass the second category is eastwards and here if the computer can hit 100 FPS without the game looking like hot dog water then I would say it passes so I've played on this computer for the last two days let's talk about it let's start with the easiest Games first and then increase in difficulty Remo six Siege is one of the easiest games to run and modern high-end computers can easily average over 500 FPS at 1080p using the low preset I averaged around 180 FPS now the internal resolution is 50% of 1080p that's just how the low preset is set up uh but that's okay because it still looks fine now Smite is probably the game I've played the most hours in so it has a special place in my heart and it was a pleasant experience as well FPS takes a hit in big team fights but we're still hovering around 100 frames per second we average over 120 FPS with a mixture of low and medium settings at 1080p so Smite you pass Counter-Strike 2 was harder to run than anticipated I started off with competitive settings which use a mixture of low medium and some anti-aliasing but I wasn't averaging over 100 FPS in a bot match so I dropped most settings down to the lowest and it ran well we averaged over 100 FPS so that's a pass for this computer but just barely now granted this was in a bot match which is a little bit harder to run than a regular match uh but worst case scenario at least you expect this okay so things start to heat up a little bit in Apex Legends although it was playable and still very fun it unfortunately did not hit our criteria by just a handful of FPS so unfortunately I cannot pass it it is a fail but still playable just not to our criteria the last game in the Esports area is fortnite and man this game using low settings I tested out direct x 12 direct x 11 with performance mode and regular direct X1 mode and all three were stuttery so I decided to stick with direct X12 mode and work from there since it was the smoothest overall experience after changing the internal resolution from 100% to 80% the PC performed way better we averaged over 120 frames per second with over 60 FPS in the 1% lows great work so all of the games are technically playable but only four out of the five passed our criteria to make this a gaming computer not bad that was the easy round let's see how this performs in higher end single player games Civilization 6 ran without any hiccups or issues it's an older PVE title while optimized and has no issues on older Hardware so at 1080p with medium settings and no anti-aliasing the system met the goal Easy Pass things get a little harder in Hell divers 2o it's not the most intense game but it's definitely a up from Civ I was surprised at how well the game played on this system though we averaged in the upper 50s with the low preset and the quality render scale it was smooth and minus the lower graphical Fidelity I felt like gameplay was not affected because of my computer so it gets a pass I'm a big MMO guy so I totally had to throw one in there and the one that I still play from time to time is New World from Amazon I will say the first time you enter the game it stutters a decent amount and this is probably because the game needs to load data into Hardware caches and RAM but after that's over it does a great job we only average about 30 FPS in town centers which is probably the most intense part of this entire game but outside of that the game sat between 45 and 55 FPS now I was really frightened about hog Ritz Legacy because it didn't work well on my previous Arc card but the A380 did a solid job it averaged 55 FPS and there were some expected stuttering but it was definitely playable and enjoyable I mean for $372 it did way better than expected gets a pass cyber Punk was another game that kind of had me shaking in my boots a little bit because it's just so hard to run it really hammers your CPU and your GPU but with the right settings and some upscaling the PC did a decent job at low settings with the ultra quality upscaling it averag 51 FPS in The Benchmark Easy Pass and lastly we have Elden ring one of my personal favorite games ever and at 1080p low settings without any upscaling the system did better than expected it averaged around 45 FPS with mostly smooth gameplay my game did stutter when I was jumping through some foliage and to be honest that does make a big difference I'm pretty sure I took at least one hit from the Sentinel because my game jumped around during that exact moment but it was fairly rare I think when it's all said and done the game was playable most of the time but you just need to be mindful about certain areas so I would still say it gets a pass when it's all said and done this computer passed n of the 11 tests which is an 82% and that's pretty good especially for the price but is it something that I recommend for people to build themselves no not at all for the same price as this computer you can build yourself a much faster system simply by buying a ryzen 5 3600 secondhand and a GTX 1660 used and this experiment really hammers out the point that if you are building a computer for let's say under $500 you are really doing yourself a disservice by not checking out the secondhand Market with all that being said I'm still pretty surprised by this computer I'm curious to see if you guys would have changed anything at least with the brand new parts and then maybe in the used Market what would you upgrade to to make this a way better value computer let me know in the comments below thank you you guys so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video peace
