I'm sure you heard about the coastal grandmother style aesthetic a couple of years ago it's been so popular I've enjoyed wearing it and I know so many of my followers have too but today we're going to talk about a look that has kind of evolved from that and that is the Casual Coastal Chic aesthetic so let me break it down for you today I'm going to share with you six essential steps to creating the coastal Chic Vibe I also have wardrobe Essentials that you'll need to do that we're also going to look at six out as I talk through everything and at the end of today's video I have three style hacks that you're going to want to stick around for you'll see them throughout the video but I'm going to break it down for you and give you step-by-step instructions at the end of today's video so make sure you stick with me of course everything I'm showing you is linked Below in the description box just click all through those words more more more and then you'll get to that description box where I've linked everything and I'm giving you everything too in a full range of prices you'll find lots of options in all of the styles that I'm showing you today let's get going the first thing we need to know though is more about what is this casual Coastal Chic Vibe and how do what does it look like so it's very much like the coastal grandmother look it's that relaxed look it looks very polished and pulled together but also extremely comfortable a little preppy a little elevated and yet really casual too you may notice this Coastal grandmother vibe in movies such as Nancy Meyers something's got to give starring Diane Keaton and it's complicated with Merill stre but I also pick up this Coastal grandmother vibe in movies starring Dian Lane such as Under the Tuscan Sun and Paris Can Wait So if you've seen any of those movies and you've watched those main characters you know they always look so Chic so polished a little elevated just really sophisticated and classy but they're also wearing things that are really comfortable really paired down and really simple and that's the look we're going for now of course the coastal Vibe also includes just those beautiful colors of the coast so you're going to start that look with those colors but we're going to take it and evolve it a little bit for this Coastal Chic Vibe when you're thinking Coastal Chic you may also consider some of the lifestyle mavens like Martha Stewart and AA Garten in fact consider not just how those women dress but how they cook how they entertain how they decorate because really the coastal grandmother look and the coastal Chic look are a lifestyle not just a fashion style so when we kind of put all that together you know taking the time to sit and read a book you know outside on the deck and maybe tossing a salad together full of fresh vegetables that you got at the market stand earlier in the day you know meeting someone from for an Alfresco lunch all of those sorts of things maybe spending some time in the garden Gathering fresh flowers and vegetables from the garden in your backyard to create a feast for your family those are the sorts of things that build the lifestyle that then influence the fashion style that we are calling casual Coastal Chic all right let's run through those six Essentials that you'll need to do those six things we'll need to do if we want to create those kinds of looks this summer and of of course this is just an option it's just one of those style Aesthetics that's out there right now that I really love I think it's really interesting I think it's easy to do uh if we kind of work at it if we know these six Essentials and I think it's a lot of fun and it looks great on women over 50 it just looks really natural it makes us look like we kind of have our ducks in a row and like we are enjoying life to the fullest the first of the six essential steps to create the Casual Coastal Chic Vibe is to make sure that your closet is stocked with natural fiber fabrics and of course at this time of year those would mainly include things like cotton linen cashmere and silk now I also love the blend of cotton and linen you're going to find some great things in that blend and occasionally you'll find a linen blend that includes other things or of course a cotton blend that includes other fibers too but really go as natural as possible when you're thinking about the Fabrics in your closet the second essential step is to think about your color palette you want to begin your Coastal Chic color palette with the colors of the coast things like white and sand and beige and also of course maybe light blue of the sky and then that deep navy blue of the sea you could add in some dark gray if you wanted to some taupe those are the basics but it's certainly okay to add some color to this palette also and so today you'll see me wearing red for my Coastal Chic outfits but another great color that is really trending this year and that works so nicely with the beach and with just that whole Coastal theme is peach I love that but don't be afraid to add maybe one of the other really trending colors for this year so those could include magenta orange uh turquoise so those are some great ones to add to but I espcially think red works really nicely because it's going to pick up those nautical notes and then Peach works really nicely because it kind of Blends nicely with seashells and things like that the next essential step of course is to put together a capsule of Essentials that you're going to need if you want to create this look now at my blog this week I think it was on Tuesday I actually introduced a casual Coastal Chic capsule wardrobe so I'm going to give you a link to that and definitely be sure to check it out because the beauty of a capsule wardrobe is sometimes maybe you think a capsule wardrobe is what you completely what you live out of but you don't have to do that at all you can create capsules within your overall wardrobe and I love to do that for instance you might have just a work capsule so that is just all your work clothes so that way they all mix and match together really nicely or if let's say you do a lot of outdoor activities maybe you're really big into hiking and backpacking and canoeing and kayaking and all that so you might have an outdoor activities capsule within your wardrobe and those things all mix and match together nicely you can do the same thing with a style aesthetic that you want to play with or just kind of use occasionally or of course maybe you want to take it on vacation so you could create a coastal Chic capsule within your overall wardrobe just pull those pieces together make sure they work nicely together and that's what I've done at the blog for you but let me run down the essentials that you're going to need in this capsule wardrobe first of all you're going to need some great l L pants linen trousers are just definitely a part of this casual Chic style aesthetic so whether you wear yours cropped or F length and of course there's also the option of shorts definitely get you some linen pants now this year there is an option and that is cotton gauze pants or cotton gauze shorts you could certainly interchange those into your wardrobe if you'd like to all of my examples though Are linen now one thing about this whole casual Chic vibe to is you're going to notice I think is that it really looks best with wideleg relaxed fit pants remember Comfort is keing in this style aesthetic and I don't think there's any room really for skinny jeans and skinny pants so I think you're going to want the wider leg aesthetic or at least a straight leg relaxed fit uh leg on your pants and on your shorts another thing you're going to want of course for this uh capsule wardrobe are just some nice elevated teas and tanks in those natural fa Fabrics such as linen and cotton I think it's best to actually stick with the basics like white and navy uh maybe a black one too is definitely going to elevate everything that you wear so like for instance if you're going on a date night or something just a little bit more elevated maybe a cocktail hour or something adding a black T-shirt to your outfits to those other pieces in the capsule are going to elevate everything so don't leave blackout but a white a baby blue a Navy is definitely a good option for those tanks and teas the third piece of that capsule should be a cotton or linen or combination sweater or even a cashmere sweater and it can be a buttonup or a pullover the one I include in my capsule is a pullover it's a little linen blend pullover from e fiser but you could also use a buttonup uh cardigan if you wanted to in that way you could button it up and you can use it in the same ways I have but you could also then of course wear it over your pieces and open so that's a really nice option too I just don't have one so I didn't include it in my capsule but you certainly could the next essential are just some simple summer dresses even just if just one is fine uh simple summer dresses and or skirts and I have a dress a linen dress and a linen blend skirt in my capsule U the main thing here is you want to keep these really simple you want to keep them in the colors that we've talked about before they should be kind of easy breezy a little little preppy but also very relaxed very comfortable but also a little elevated just have that really kind of a classy look to them and uh really just look you know just refined another essential for your wardrobe is going to be a straw Market bag or some kind of a woven Market bag or a cloth like a canvas Market bag so a market bag that you can take to the farmers market that you could take outside to gather those beautiful flowers from your garden of course also that you could just take to the beach you could take it to lunch all the things that market bag is such an essential part of this casual Coastal Chic Vibe now the one I'm showing you here is from J crew I've had it now I think for three years but they still have it and there's a good reason because it's a great bag and I love that it is trimmed in cognac as you'll notice also that my sandals which are Another Part Of course of these wardrobe Essentials are just some really simple but elevated um casual sandals that you can mix and match you can wear with all of these pieces now I've chosen to go with CAC accessories because I think they make every outfit look a little bit more interesting they make it look rich they make it look elevated and really elevation elevating these looks is really part of this casual Coastal Chic Vibe and a final essential that I did not show in any of today's outfits I just completely forgot and I I do have but I did not show are straw or bucket hats you know of course we think of Diane Keaton wearing a bucket hat I mean I don't know we've seen her wear of those in several movies I think and I don't know I I keep thinking about getting a bucket hat but they just feel to me like they might be a little hot on your head so I kind of like a straw hat but that really is kind of what the two I'd say kinds of hats that lend to this particular style aesthetic and that would be just a really wide brim straw hat or a bucket hat the main thing is you want something going to keep the Sun out of your your face off of your face and off of your neck uh because you're going to be spending a lot of time outside on the beach or maybe you're just going to be spending a lot of time in your backyard or whatever but it's just part of that style aesthetic and you know don't be caught without your hat it's such a smart thing to wear this time of year anyhow so those are the Wardrobe Essentials for this uh style aesthetic but we have three more essential steps to go but before we do that I just want to introduce myself in case this is your first time here my name is Kay and this is dress for my day and I am here usually every Wednesday I I loaded a different day this week but normally I'm here on Wednesday sharing videos to encourage and help women over 50 to get dressed for our day so that we can show up in our world and continue to make a difference because the people around us they want us to and we have so much to offer so I hope you will subscribe to my channel if you enjoy today's video and then be sure to check the description box below for all the other places that you can connect with me at my blog on Instagram and Facebook all of those places and like I said links to everything that I'm showing you are always in the description box below let's continue with those essential steps to create the coastal Chic Vibe the next step of course is to create outfits with these Essentials and here's what you want to do you want to create outfits that are simple casual but elevated so if you'll keep those three style angles in my mind as you're putting together outfits with these pieces you will definitely hit a home run and you will create that casual Coastal Chic Vibe so you want to make sure that your outfits look very practical like they look like you can live in them that's kind of the beauty of this particular style aesthetic is very livable it's very comfortable and functional and so those are the kinds of outfits you want to put together the fifth step the fifth essential step is to accessorize though with some key pieces and some of the key pieces that I like to accessorize these looks with that really give it that Coastal Vibe are things like a scarf a summer scarf and here you're going to see me wearing a beautiful linen scarf from E Fisher but you can also find them on Amazon and other places at Nordstrom and things like that in fact I'll have some for you below that you can check out at all different price points I love this white one because it just works with so many things but I also have have a black cashmere wrap that I got recently to go on my Alaska trip and it elevates the look a little bit it brings you know black is always going to elevate things and of course cashmere does too so that's another option so instead of wearing a jacket sometimes just take that wrap with you put it in that big old Market bag and you have a beautiful wrap to wear another way to accessorize these looks of course is with those conac sandals belt and that market bag I'm wearing simple but elevated jewelry that is impactful so in all of these looks I'm simply wearing a little uh Compass necklace and some hoop lightweight hoop earrings and that's it so just keep your jewelry very paired back and very elegant you can pull the looks together by wearing a pretty linen jacket like I'm wearing today in fact I think a jacket like this of some sort is going to be another essential in that wardrobe that catel wardrobe and then also tossing that cotton or cashmere or linen sweater over your shoulders of course you can put it over your shoulders for so many outfits and then you can even put it on if you need to and you could do the same thing though with a button up cardigan you could button those buttons up and then you could throw it over your shoulders of course you could put that on too so don't forget those essential pieces and then the sixth step is simply to add some nautical touches if you'd like to but for this Coastal Chic Vibe we're going to keep those really minimal we're not going to go like all Coastal with lots of anchors and you know fish and and all the things in one big outfit instead the the basic you know nautical vibe that you can add is just some Navan white or white and red stripes to your outfit so I've chosen some Navy and white stripes here in my tank top and there are so many things like that available in Navy and white or in red and white so that's a great nautical touch but if you wanted to you could add something like some seashell earrings or maybe a seashell necklace or bracelet or a little anchor somewhere on something that's going to be quite fine maybe in your sandals would be a good place to add some nautical touches I'd keep those really minimal and a little elevated and upscale so those are the six essential steps to creating this casual Chic Vibe now let me share with you those three great style hacks that you're going to see in fact you've already seen me wear them let me tell you how I did them the first one is how I wear my wraps and scarves so you'll see that I've worn my linen wrap and my cashmere wrap this way so what I do when I carry when I wear a wrap instead of wearing it centered over my back which I think looks a little oldfashioned I do it sometimes but I think that looks a little oldfashioned instead if you'll put a shorter side of the wrap on your right or on the side where you carry your bag I tend to carry my bag on the right so I put the shorter side on my right keep the left side longer and then I just kind of throw toss over the the longer side of that wrap or that scarf over my right shoulder and you can situate a little bit but what that does is it makes me handsfree so I'm not trying to hold a Shaw on me all the time my hands are free I can move them I can get into my bag I can eat dinner all those sorts of things I think that's a great style hack the second style hack is how to Loop your belt like I've done here so of course you have to have a belt that has some length to it so this nice little skinny belt from J crew I'm wearing a size medium but it's really nice and long and so I have a lot left over plus it's really Supple and really you know really bendy and all that and so what I do is I pull it through you know get it comfortable on my waist and then I'm going to Loop it up go up under the belt uh with the long end and then back over and then down into that little hole that I've created and then just give it a little tug and situate it and it looks just so Chic that way I really love that it's just a great little way something to do with your the leftover belt so it's not just hanging there creates a little bit of looks really pulled together and then the third style hack is really my favorite because this one's new to me and I love this if you'd like to tie your shirt your button-up shirt but every time you do that it just looks a little wonky right I mean you tie it the normal way then it just kind of looks wonky like it just flips up and everything it just it's just not right and so here's a great way to do it instead take just the left side of your shirt and wrap it up and over and go cross over it uh and then back around to where you can pull that end through and towards the right side of your shirt and I'm showing you how to do that here you may just do have to do like me and watch it over and over and then once you've got that pulled through just a little bit don't pull it all the way through you're holding it like that then you take the right side and you tuck that end into it into the left little Loop there you've created and then you can pull both sides you'll want to pull the right side through and get it to where you want it and then as you pull the the left little piece that's coming out it actually tightens that Loop and secures it so I promise you if you play around with that a little bit you can do this it took me a little while to do it but it does make your tie lay nice and flat right there at your waistline so it doesn't stick out or flip up and all those other things it just stays really nicely right there I love that little style hack so there you go there are the six essential steps that you'll need to create the Casual Coastal Chic style Vibe I've given you the Wardrobe Essentials but don't forget to
