The Bizarre Life of Jan Crouch: Co-Founder of TBN

[Music] you [Music] [Music] and one of the things that had been special to me all my life was knowing that angels followed us everywhere we go every one of you can tell an angel story I know that we've all seen them we've all known they were there they've ministered to us in time of trouble and one of the times that I needed an angel twice was that I had such a fear of flying when we began TBN and we had to go everywhere and I had a fear of flying and I mean I would you know oh really and one day that we got on the plane and I saw something out on the wing and I started saying bye wait wait wait and I said Paul do you see that he said what on the brain the wing look there's somebody out there he said I don't see it and I looked out there and there was a funny angel out on the wing making me laugh about how silly I had been about flying that they fly all over the world at speed of light and here I was afraid to get on a plane and fly and it was hilarious every time I'd get on a plane I'd see this funny funny angel and he'd always make me laugh and then one time my mother and the two boys and I got up at the mountains at San Bernardino in California and my car that we were driving to church that Sunday morning went off the back of a mountainside and I knew we would have died if we hadn't have gotten out and I didn't know where we were and we needed help and all of a sudden I heard a Harley coming up the road and on that Harley was a young man who had a chain he hooked my car up and my mother was so afraid she was with her she got her mace out of her person was standing like this yeah he hooked our car up the minute he got it hooked up I saw him just kind of snap his fingers like there he came a truck down the road and I mean there hadn't another thing passed that road since our car went over the edge of the of the road he hooked that chain around the car the truck pulled us out just there we were and I was trying to pay him and my mother was trying to may seem and we and he looked at me I hadn't said a word and he said now take her family to church by the way it's that way I was going the wrong way so I know angels are everywhere I know that I know that and so the play that we're presenting now is to let you know that there are angels everywhere just for you there just for you they're funny they ride Harley's and some of you have seen yours in a very special way and so this is we call it la chic ah Oh Kaito Kaito I am the lord that healeth thee saith God Almighty yes you have said but it is too hard but I say unto you is anything too hard for me save God only rise and be healed as my word hath said unto thee today faith cometh by hearing and hearing by my word and thou hast heard my word now now I say under the move and act upon it and I will honor that faith now saith the Lord God Almighty for I am there is none other beside me Oh open your heart and receive the living word that has come forth from the mouth of my servant today they've gone for I am the same yesterday today and forever my arm is not shortened that I cannot save my ear is not heavy that I cannot hear I have heard your cry I have seen your affliction and I will he will be safe the Lord if you will only reach out and touch me now say the Lord God Almighty hallelujah hallelujah reach out every time I'd stub my toe or get a tummy ache I'm run to mom and dad and they prayed for me you know and I would see miracles from the time I was a wee little one and to realize that there are actually people on this earth that have never seen are sadly never experienced a miracle is really sad so what are we to do what are we to do so I was gonna tell my chin user so when I was 12 years old oh no I'm not gonna tell I think that everybody that has had a miracle and especially through Benny's ministry should just simply get your before and after records I have mine I'm gonna just show them right now and write a little bit about the miracle very short because they're not going to have a lot of time because I believe they're gonna get millions I just believe they should really get millions of miracles you know and maybe someday they would do a series on miracles who knows I mean showing the world of miracles this has spurred me to get my records okay when they like didn't believe that miracles there was Benny a fake well let me tell you what I know about Benny my doctor dr. Elizabeth Vaughn is sitting right here in the studio she is an ophthalmologist wonderful ophthalmologist from the Dallas area I went to her a few years ago now I didn't realize dr. Vaughn till I asked for brother my daughter of my eye record because I was going over to Hong Kong and when to get cheap glasses cuz they're cheap over there and I was gonna get something I asked her for my weight he caught prescription and so she says been too long he must come back in but it's been what about three years since I'd been there and so she told me during the exam that I was getting glaucoma in my eyes my mom had it so it wasn't a shock to me and she put on my medical record no no medication was ready yet but she told me to come back for exams she's sitting here well I just happened to have about a year later be done to dr. Reginald cherry well I have to tell him between oh my goodness so I knew this was there the condition and it bothered me you know it leads to blindness if it isn't treated so it bothered me I know my mother got very very hard seeing in her last year's could hardly see and I had to be almost taken around so it bothered me quite a bit so one day I was just happy to have Benny's program on TV in in our home Paul was dressing by the mirror and I wasn't happy to be in better we were just mostly listening to it and he started praying for the sick and Benny said these words and I'm going to get your office or mine one to find that piece of tape because I know about when it happened and then he turned to the camera and said there is a lady out there right now that has been healed of glaucoma to the screen and touch the screen as you reached your hand up to pray for people I received that healing well in just a few weeks I was going in to doctor original cherry down in Houston who is my all over a doctor he does everything not just my eyes so I was going in just for a regular all-over checkup and while I was down there I said to his wife Linda said I you know dr. Vaughn had told me that I had got coma starting him eyes I said I'd like to get a glaucoma check check said we do that here so I said fine so we went in for the glaucoma check after Benny had prayed for me and in just a few days I got this report from dr. Reginald cherry is my name and give here's doctor our be cherry clinic for preventive medicine it's in Houston Texas here is my report Janis W Bethany that's my maiden name Crouch I go into that neat when I go in for here's right eye measurement blah blah blah left our measurement blah blah blah impression measurement of I don't know all this but listen no signs of glaucoma I'm gonna make a copy of this and with all the love that I can ride in a letter I'm gonna write the inside report hi I'm Lawrence Krauss this is the Bible form you're here with me every Sunday night from 8 to 10 p.m. we just talk about life from a biblical perspective it's just you and me there's nobody else around then I want to tell you a sad story Jan Crouch of TBN Fame has succumbed to a massive stroke she died as a result of complications on May 31st she was 78 years old her husband Paul Crouch together were founders of TBN he passed away two and a half years earlier the Christian examiner notes that Crouch and her husband were known for being part of the prosperity gospel movement and while this is what these online Christian news satire group called Babylon B has said in response it has met with rejection people are not happy that they've said this about Jan crowds but what they said was various baffled prosperity gospel preachers have begun offering theories Tuesday on how crowds could possibly have passed away given her overabundance of faith her supernatural ability to name and claim health and wealth that will and her decades of collecting donations while promising that God's will is for everybody to be wealthy and healthy folks think that this is a little bit over the top the article also included fake quotes from popular prosperity gospel preachers like Joel Osteen and Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn many fans admitted they usually enjoyed the satire but this one went too far they don't think it's funny it or it's appropriate they didn't like the timing of it and so forth but at the end of their reporting on her death the CNN website said quote but TBN was not without controversy the New York Times article documented a family fight that highlighted the lavish lifestyle of the crouches including matching multi-million dollar homes in a gated community in Newport California in 2015 courthouse News Service noted that various members of the crowds family have sued each other over the years that was apparently okay it's a touchy subject but I wonder if Christians should respect the feelings of a family grieving the loss of a loved one absolutely should Christians warn people of spiritual error especially that which is cloaked in Christian term ecology and spiritual practice absolutely I think the Babylon bee could have waited don't you CNN didn't have to add their little caveat did they but given all of that what did either of them say that wasn't true CNN's not a whole lot better than TBN and they didn't go after TBN for their name it and claim it and their you know everybody God wants everybody well kind of thing because they believe it too but they wanted folks to know that they disagreed with the excesses of TBN but the babylon b does something very important it provides a needed service and that service couched in comedy so-called it's a warning an urgent service given the spiritual melees that dominates organized christianity today most true christians have their head in the sand most true christians do not know what's going on most true chris don't even want to most true christians are shocked when they hear about these errors but how do you pray if you don't know what's going on how do you protect your family if you accept everything and reject nothing how do you want our god if you pray for or ignore heretics and con artists as though they're sincere christian leaders the Bible stands Foursquare on a principle that's not listed in the Bible but it's true and that principle has to do with whether or not a person is a true Christian if a person says that they are Christian but they don't speak Christian doctrine they don't follow what the Bible says about it but rather create their own in the old days we used to say pretty is as pretty does in Christianity the same thing Christian is as Christian does there is no way to tell who's a Christian except by the way they lived and by how they speak and by what they do their morality and their values tell you whether they're Christian and when they go into the Bible and deliberately lift things out change the meaning and push it back at you with something's absolutely silly and become multimillionaires in the process telling you that God wants you well that sickness is a matter of sin and if you were just repent of your sin you will not be sick and then to die of a heart attack to die of cancer to die of a stroke kind of God is that and trust me nobody's ever got out of here alive they all get sick they all die and there's a living testimony that what they have been teaching and preaching it's not true people need to hear that the newspaper could have waited wouldn't hurt but they dare not be silent Souls and lives are at stake error when it is spiritual it's not just merely wrong or different it is deadly at the eternal level we often say when someone passes away may they rest in peace and we trust and hope that she will but given the part we do no I don't think so when you've gone through depression you know there's no way out except jesus healed me and that's the only reason I'm here I had a little chicken that died and the only thing I did was prayed in the name of Jesus and that little chicken became alive you know I was diagnosed with glaucoma and just watching my television like so many of you are doing at home tonight I was healed when Benny Hinn prayed so you know I know it happens and I know Jesus is the name and I know he's here tonight and if will worship the healer yes the healer the only healer the only huge Jesus Christ that I believe everyone will walk out of here tonight with their miracle and if we're dreaming let us dream on it's like it's always been the little women that caught the vision of giving beginning with Jesus himself out of their private means some of you little precious ones have that little grocery money some of that little money set aside assure tonight the blessings of God on your family by giving it to God and speaking that say it God this is for blessings on my family I love that you know during the time college when I had a real serious problem and was just when I was I was the first girl ever kicked out of Higginsville college now that's terrible it's terrible and my dad was on the board and it was just I mean it was it could have been the end really I mean Saint minute to destroy me to destroy dad's ministry and during those dark dark dark dark hours after I had been told I had to go home and before my dad got there to get me I was in my room and I remember I was so devastated that I wouldn't even turn on the light because I was afraid someone would come to the door or see the light on through the window and know I was in there or awake and I remember one time I crawled back into the closet in my closet and I got a flashlight that I had and I remember I was sobbing and crying and I opened the Bible and I didn't want anybody to come in I didn't want to talk to anybody because it was devastating me and I open the Bible with my flashlight sitting in the closet and Evangel college huddled in a corner all by myself and I was reading in so much of the New Testament became just oh I think that's when really the love of the word came so real in my life I was reading in James so many beautiful things in James that just ministered to me but I think the scripture that just burst it off a page to me and I clung on to was dear brothers and this is to Christians it's talking about Christians to Christians if a Christian is over to come buy some sin you who are godly should gently and humbly help him back onto the right path remembering that next time it might be one of you who is in the wrong share each other's troubles and problems and so obey our Lord's command and if anyone thinks he's too great to stoop to this he's just fooling himself he is really a nobody none of us is perfect and it goes on oh that's such a beautiful scripture God make God's mercy and peace be upon the lives of those who do these things and it's just so evident that we as Christians should do that there's even a stronger scripture that Jesus gave us he says if you forgive not men their trespasses neither will your father forgive you your trespasses you have no choice you have to forgive me if I do so are you all gonna all right I do too that's right hey you have to forgive them for writing the letter I do [Music] [Music]
