I'm ripping up my beginner's guide to cutting  the cord and it's all because of a big shift in   streaming I've been helping people cut the cords  since 2016 and during that time most the people   I've helped have been fed up with their cable  or satellite provider so they've switched to a   live TV streaming service to save money services  like YouTube TV Hulu live sling TV and the rest   these live TV services are kind of like cable 2.0  offering bundles of cable networks and in some   cases local broadcast TV stations back to my guide  to cutting the cord and step number five this is   what's changing in this step I've recommended  that people test a live TV streaming service   while still paying for cable and my topic for a  lot of cord cutters has been YouTube TV if people   are happy with YouTube TV during their trial they  can cancel their cable TV subscription and keep   watching their favorite channels with YouTube TV  for a lower price now this recommendation it still   works for people who watch a lot of live sports  news and their local stations but we gotta talk   about a couple things that have changed first live  TV streaming services are getting more expensive a   lot more expensive YouTube TV alone has doubled in  price since it launched in 2017 and second cable   and broadcast networks are really struggling on  the content side aside from Sports and news many   people are finding fewer reasons to watch live  TV on entertainment channels especially when   you think about all those cable TV commercials  the big shift that I'm noticing from my viewers   and readers is that many people who cancel cable  TV can skip step number five because they don't   need a pricey live TV service like YouTube TV to  replace cable take a look at this recent article   from variety it backs up what I've seen and says  that pay TV subscriptions that's cable satellite   and live TV streaming are at their lowest point  since 1992 and we know that more changes are   coming check out this tweet from a CNBC journalist  JP Morgan is assuming that Disney will offer ESPN   direct to consumers in the summer of 2024 and  when that day comes you can only expect cord   cutting to accelerate but people have not stopped  watching TV not at all instead many cord cutters   they're hooking up an antenna for their local  broadcast TV channels subscribing to Affordable   on-demand Services ones like Netflix and perhaps  peacock and Paramount plus those Services have   on-demand shows in movies as well as some  live TV components and then there are free   ad supported streaming services like Pluto TV 2B  freebie and the Roku channel so if you currently   have cable or satellite and you want to cut the  cord I still don't think it hurts to test out a   live TV streaming service most of them including  YouTube TV have free trials but during that trial   pay close attention to what you're watching how  long you're watching and research whether you you   could stream that content Elsewhere for less  money YouTube TV is convenient more than 100   channels in a single app but how much are you  really willing to pay for that convenience if   you find yourself not watching much live TV  anymore here's your action plan try dropping   it all together for a month maybe two months to  see if you actually miss it after all you can   always go back youTube TV isn't going anywhere  and unlike with cable you can sign up for a no   contract live TV streaming service online and  start streaming in just a couple minutes leave   a comment below I want to know the streaming  services you're spending the most time with   lately my name is Michael and I'm here to help  you make every dollar count thanks for watching
