today I'm going to show you how I'm going to transform my van from this to [Music] this [Music] job number one was to remove all of the tools strip out all of the accessories that I had fixed everywhere and then finally get all the racking out and break it all up I've got the van completely empty now and cleaned but who whoever had this before me they stuck God knows what all on this van with like Silicon so I'm spending ages trying to scrape it off and I don't know any shortcut I've tried like some alcohol wipes they won't get it off so just got a plow on but I'm running out of time it's definitely holding me up this I tried several things to remove this but sometimes you just need good oldfashioned elbow grease to get it done I wanted to try and insulate this van a little bit and just put some insulation on in these sections here just in case I get any condensation then it won't soak the carpet that I'm hoping to put up but I bought some stuff it's called the garage insulation garage door insulation kit bought some screw I don't know if it's going to be any good but I've just ran out of time to prepare this it's all a bit last minute I come up with this great idea like yesterday that I do multi-purpose WRA so I've tried two ways of fixing this installation on the top of my van the first one I tried was using like silver foil tape and it's just baggy it's just crap so the second time I've done it I've used the sprayed heing and it's taken the shape of the roof which is much better so I'm going to rip this one down and do it again do it right or don't do it at all so the way I'm preparing this is basically rolling my foil out to the width of the van and then cutting it down to make it easy to work with and then spraying some adhesive spray on the roof and on one side and sort of forming it as I go and then trimming down the other side I'm not a pro at this I'm just having a go so if you are a pro an expert on this don't be horrible what I intend to do anyway is just work from one end to the other and see how we get on see if we can work it out but it's cold and the spray doesn't like the cold I need a bit of cardboard cuz I spray the plastic here now and it's ruined it so if I can keep it off that I'm going to certainly try I wasn't sure how much spray to apply to this so I just went for the more the merer approach I was surprised at how easy this went up and it takes to the shape of the van really really well take this gu with a pinch of salt as I'm just going to provide tips as I go along as I learn how to do this myself what I want to do over on this side is just make a cut right in there and then I can trim the rest of it up in just a minute realistically once I'd figured out how to do this it probably took me about a further hour to get this all done the next stage was to install some wiring because I intend to put some additional Lighting in here so I thought I better get this done before I try and put this carpet up so what I've done is I've ran in some feeds for some LED lights I intend to put in that I'm going to run off a battery because these keep flattening my vehicle battery so they're in place now ready to be carpeted I've got a spare jackary that I thought I might use to power these lights or I'm going to install a Leisure battery let me know your thoughts the last few jobs to do was to remove the anchor points and try and get this great big mat out of the van quite difficult to do on your own luckily my dad was about and he gave me a hand absolute Legend next out with a brush and give the van a bit of a clean the paint workk underneath the mat was in great condition so I was well happy with that off with the seals you know when you get stuck into a job and it ends up just escalating that's kind of what's Happening Here I need to stop this soon this is the last bit of cleaning that I'm doing before I simply just run out of time this van is going to North London tomorrow to get racked out quick lunch and a cup of tea then it's time to get this carpet out finally I watched a few YouTube videos on how to do this and how much to order so for this is a long wheel based Transit so I ordered 15 M of this carpet from a website called linen direct this is four-way stretch carpet that I'm using today look in an Ideal World I'd remove the bulk head I do loads but I work for myself and I've given myself a day to do this because I don't have a week do it's not a week project every damn not working I'm losing money so I've given myself a day and I'm just going to do the best I can within that time so the way to apply this carpet is to firstly spray the adhesive on the surface that you're fixing to and also the carpet this is contact spray adhesive and you simply Push Pull and stretch it into place work from the top downwards to get the whole top bit done and then you can stretch and push it into place as you go down the panel of the van and as you can see it's starting to take shape and if I'm completely honest with you I'm proper happy with the finished result from my first goar at doing this ever so this carpet I'm using here today is called four-way stretch carpet which means you can literally stretch it everywhere you want so better getting it in the crevices without them to make loads of cuts I have had to make a cut down the middle here where the door is just to relieve some tension so I can work my carpet in better some of it's a bit tricky sticking because it's so cold um but that's something we're just going to have to work around all I've done was watch a lot of YouTube videos on how to do this and they all said the wheel Arch was the hardest bit and I'm finding that well it's not too bad actually and another trick that I learned off the old YouTube was to use a wooden spoon to really get in all those edges I'm sure there's a professional tool to do this with but I'm no professional and I'm probably never going to do this again in my entire life I've certainly got a few imperfections but remember there's going to be racking down here and the other side I just didn't want to see all the exposed damaged paint work and scratches everywhere so I thought it'd be a nice touch completely unnecessary some might say but you know what I work out of this van every day and I want it to look good and if my clients see a really nice professional van it's a good sign of what to expect from the tradesman's work two sides done and it's time to give this roof a go the same principles apply for the roof as it did for the Sid only start from one end to the other I decided to work from the bulkhead back then I cut off the excess carpet to make it easier to work with I then shaped the back of the van and then I cut in the sides as well finally because I had gone this far I decided to take off the wood panels and carpet those as well which I think gives a really tidy finish it's not perfect but it's not bad for a novice that is the van all carpeted ready for tomorrow I'm going to whip nip home get that floor mat completely washed with a pressure hose so it's all nice and tidy might as well go to full hog and then a bright and early start tomorrow back out with a mat I'm doing it on my own this time well I thought it was until the dog came out to help issue number one everything is frozen and the Cure does not want to work this took me ages to S out and you can tell by how much the sun has gone down another issue has arisen all the water spray has frozen on the road I've enlisted the girlfriend to give me a hand getting this map back in and then I need to get this road saled today I am at yoke Vans getting my van racked out I arrived early for my 8:00 appointment I left about halfast 5 in Portsmouth and I got there just before half seven all of the racking is pre-made all prepared and lifted straight in fits like a glove I was amazed at how quick this was done it took a total of just 1 and 1/2 hours all already we have the floor in here is the second side of the racking and then before I knew it it was time to get the armor guard in the Yol Lads are very welcoming and offer plenty of tea and a waiting room to chill out in these Lads work quick and efficiently and before long it was all done and I was heading home I made a short content video with this in more detail check it out it'll be in the description below today I'm installing the jet rack so basically I've been trying to find storage solutions for all of my gear so I keep the floor of my van clear for materials when it's needed the last thing I need to find a home for is my ladders so this jet rack basically allows me to store it up here and the ladders will just unhook I have made a complete walkr video on how to install the jet rack if you want to check it out I'll leave a link in the description below okay let's run through a few things first of all I had this racking installed by a company called Yol vans based in bwood I have paid for this completely there's been no discounts or anything so I'm going to be completely transparent with you with how much this cost me etc etc I had two options with this ply an unfinished ply or let me see if I can say this right folic mesh plywood it was an upgrade and I went for it for a couple of reasons one since I'm doing this I'm just going all in and two it's like a weather resistant and really easy to clean and when I work outside all the time my van is always getting wet and I didn't want the new plywood to get water damaged basically so we start with the raised floor and the drawers I got two drawers here one is the lockable Armor guard I did have to pay extra for this so bear that in mind when I tell you how much this will cost me and then we have this other lockable drawer but it's a plywood one so if we look in this one and it comes out really far and it's got these separators which you can or can't use it's up to to you whether you want to use it or not and there's several slots available I am using them at the minute and apparently this could take up to 80 kilos in weight which is plenty then secondly we have the Armor guard drawer which you can fit loads of gear in if you feel the need to leave stuff in here overnight on the passenger side I have 1 2 3 4 5 6 78 available slots to put storage containers all my bits and Bobs and these are all adjustable also which is really handy so once you've had this installed you can still customize it to suit yourself and then I also have some storage up here as well now on the driver side I have racking all the way along I have taken out one of the shelves here so you can see how easy that is to do and I've just popped my Hoover in there I need need a bigger space for that there storage up above as well and in this section and this section you have these the same as the drawers the slots of wood which you can move about I've basically taken them all out of here to allow for my cable so like I say it's it's really nice how you can still tweak it really easily when I made my own racking before it was all just screwed in and it was what it was basically if we look at this end of the raised floor I have two hatches and this is all storage these do not give you access to the drawers below so that is secure still and I've just got like my tar poolings in here and some jump leads bits like that nothing valuable and in this one I've got another pair of boots and a battery Hoover which rarely comes out so with Yol Vans they have like a set designs that you can go by and get instant prices for but they also do customizable bits for you which is what I had done here so on the original design there wasn't a raised floor at this end but I wanted one because in here I wanted a space for my hopup and I wanted somewhere to store my tool bench cuz that comes out every day and I don't want it bungeed up I don't want anything bungeed up in this van so the way I plan this is basically for everything to be accessible organized which makes be a more efficient Tradesman I also have the trusty van Vault here bolted down which I had in my old van so I thought I'd make use of it and get it back in here other things that I've done since getting this van back was install this jet rack that has proved to be actually brilliant so if you're looking for some sort of storage solution give it a go and I've also installed these LED lights here and these are running off the van battery I've made a short content video on how I done this so if you want to see it I'll put a link in the description below check it out if you're interested I still have loops of cable here for my additional lighting but we'll get to that in a minute I also wanted to protect the ply on the floor I didn't want to get it bten battered and broken because this is a work van at the end of the day so I put down these like rubber gym mats you can get and cut them up really easily these were about 8 quid for for five big tiles weeks so it's was just a cheap solution I thought I'd give it a go they've been down for about 4 weeks now and it's proved to be brilliant actually and I've left them loose cuz I wanted to try out before I stuck them down if I stick them down I've also made a short on how to fit and cut these again I'll leave a link in the description below if you're interested those additional cables you saw me install earlier are just here because I haven't decided whether to use my jackary my portable battery which literally never gets used or to install a Leisure battery I can put the jackery in here somewhere and then maybe rig up some switch to turn them all on I'm not really sure what I want to do so if you're experienced in that sort of area leave a comment below and uh throw some ideas at me I don't want to rush this I only want to do it once and I want to do it right and these van seals well we won't talk about them but they're getting replaced so the million dooll question how much did this all cost work this out as we go and this is like an approximate really again everything I've done to this van I've paid for myself so the racking including the customization and the van Vault was just over two grand plus vat so I'm going to say including the F let's just say 2 and a half Grand and then all of the carpet and the adhesive that was about 100 quid I believe which wasn't too bad I don't think the jet rack I think that was about 150 quid which is quite expensive but it's good the flooring mats I got two packs of them at £8 a go so that's 16 and I think that's about it so all in all to do this with this van it's cost me about 2,700 quid with the VAP which you can say is a lot of money but it's one of those things where you need to put it in perspective you can buy a mobile phone now for about 2 Grand so it depends on what's important to you and what you prioritize I use this every day I spend more time working out of this than I do at home so why not make it nice make it look presentable make it efficient and enjoy going to work so I had this done about 3 weeks ago now if you hadn't noticed my camera is tracking me I'm just practicing with my auto tracker and I think it's a fair amount of time to let you know honestly how I've gotten with it and if I think it's been worth it I'll be honest I was concerned about the raised floor and not having a lot of room to work in but it turns out that this is better for me because this is a perfect height to work on I normally have my canopy up and I'm doing bits and Bobs here and it's just the right height it's a lovely work area and I am very rarely crawling through this van because all my boxes and accessories are in Arms Reach so that's an absolute plus and a bonus for me without a doubt and with the negatives I kind of want to find something to be negative about because I feel like a review isn't really fair unless there's something that could be improved but I'm really scratching my head literally to think of something because with the design of the racking I planned it well I knew what I wanted and how I'm going to work out of it so I can't fult it it's it's been absolutely brilliant everything's stayed in good Nick everything's easy to clean all my tools and materials are put away when I go to the wholesalers there's always room on the on the floor to put gear keep it nice and tidy I love it oh and finally subscribe to my channel
