in a shed somewhere in England Lori mechanic and former motorcycle racer guy Martin is about to do something for the first time going to watch his own TV shows all right let's bring it back we'll see memories all this I'm not a TV Watcher anyway and if I was why would I be watching the programs I do because I know exactly what went on but there was no surprise he was because I was there his way through a 10-year back [Music] I'm 38 year old now I still feel like a virgin kid except I've got a family and two dogs [Applause] so what scenes I've got a bit of time going to spare um or watch a bit of TV let's have a look at the few of the travel programs we've done some places haven't we so for the first time ever guy will give the sixth series of travelogues he's made he's in divided attention [Music] wherever we've been we've generally found the grafters haven't we we haven't we a guy being gay he's not traveling for a holiday being a grafter himself he wants to see how other people work too geez that's how we say cheese so yeah let's get a look at a few of those and see what sort of job you've made the workshop telephone begins with a trip that took Gaia world away from his native Grimsby I'm excited boys I'm excited I should go there she goes yeah this is the very first travel program we did six years ago at smoke out the drains oh you're a better job of that looks very moody still wear that shirt still got that jacket the Royal Enfield in his sister's Pub in class India for two weeks when a Royal Enfield motorcycle look at that it just brings back some memories Out Boys sadly the most vivid memory concerns food poisoning I was looking a bit second-hand there boys I know a couple of three days in by geez that's wiped out some trips to the pan bike daughter [Laughter] your backside's had a bit of bother but you don't need to know the details of that real idiot do you really really yeah yeah it was just wet I was hosing at my backside boy hey you didn't have a day after dinner I kept my head down and kept on with it but I'd buy hella Laugh Out rough India seems to work 24 hours a day even in the middle of the night old Delhi is home to the country's busiest markets chemistry shops next to a cement shop look at it look at what she's here you've never seen so many bugs of cement in your life come on if we're gonna go to a travel program we're not really for going to see the Dalai Lama the Taj Mahal go on who else would you go see all the Ganges yeah is it a is it a flag a third of the world's population lives on the side of the Ganges or something that's not really what we do is it not my sort of cup of tea and you know what other way there are fixed trucks um what we're going to do let's go see um trunk fitting Indian style and that's what we did this was what I was looking forward to more just to come and see how the other half do it the nagar truck yard covers the area of 40 football pitches and sees 20 000 trucks pull in per day carrying everything from flowers to computer parts anything can be fixed here Asia's biggest truck yard busy Motorway going north out of Delhi and then a hill but not on Hill as we know it that's vanilla rubbish human waste human waste look at the blokes at the top and the Mildred's the cow the cow that lost for words history was familiar to guy but the conditions were not behind you look behind you don't scare him off look behind you four bloody pigs five things there's five things covered in oil brand new leylands that you just think was made in the 60s bodybuilders building bodies for lorries welding without goggles yeah they're not bothers get cracking these lights are into it yeah these Lads are into it old announce Indian way showing friendship you don't see that in Greens people fascinated let's go have a look around [Music] come on mate you all right you're all right Shanti Devi I'm guy is the yard's Tire fitter Shanty Debbie remember [Music] they're not white they are light okay not messing them out try and love France yeah yeah okay okay well I'm just thinking this last another what she wants I'm just here she's using a split Rim okay it's a fitting that only requires basic tools but is considered old-fashioned in the UK it's illegal in the UK it's not just old-fashioned in the UK so it's illegal the next stage is to blow it up then if it was ever going to go wrong it's what happens now that ring jumps out and kills boy it says 125 psi in those tires [Music] okay she used to have a tea shop it was like 12 quid a week or something she was doing and anyway she went from that she's 60 year old she went from that to Tire fitting and 600 Quid a week it was something like that massive like something some massive numbers and that's what you did and um it just went up a bit of an attic with it look at his hands we'll see these hands the hard work hard work yeah yeah there's a few calories [Music] and you're gonna keep working you keep working not retiring hey well thanks very much for stopping and talking to us we stopped you working a bit but it's just been Mega waterless and the whole time we've been here I've been getting airport into it and the Ring's not jumped out so no one's dead you can just see in her eyes what a lovely woman lovely friendly one what a lovely one yeah good memories Out Boy six plus a year ago yeah I don't know uh HSE would be oh we're impressed with how that valves laid on there boy where are you going what a place to go and do your first travel program all right mate what a place [Music] a part of guy's trip to Latvia that has never been seen before this is what you boys would call um an exclusive [Music] with time on his hands guy Martin is catching up on his travel programs something he's never watched before well yeah we're gonna start with must have been saying what we're doing after a trip to India in 2014 the amateur explorer was back in Action 12 months later the Indian job went down all right with um Channel 4 um and they asked me where would you like to go next um and I said well um because I'm not a big idea really holiday uh holiday person I don't want many holidays anyway I have a bit of fascination with Latvia because um my granddad is Latvian even though he's dead he's he still love him anyway so that was the plan go out to Latvia um sort out what he did see how life is lived in Latvia um that's what we did but I only just learned that there's a fair few things you didn't put in the program and this is what you boys would call an exclusive and it is about a grafter um about a blind mechanic called caspers [Music] guy explored Latvia in a borrowed ladder River now the extraordinary story behind one of his favorite ever cars can be revealed I said ever since then I'm getting a bloody ladder I love a lot I love a ladder what have I done all the talking no don't bugger all I've done bugger all but we'll anyway watch the footy program me year round about Bloody ladders there she is World premiere this is the first time guy ever saw the car when he went to collect it from one of the most remarkable workers he's ever met rally lamps ah just look I'm just like I'm lost for words I've genuinely I'm just living do you wear that Precision there is no better care for this job no better care I've got Toms the young mad I have been BMX Champion but he's gonna be the translator we've got a Casper there Casper's the mechanic Lord of specialist caspers was asked to check the car before guy drove it all right the caspers is a mechanic with a difference he's blind that's so many times you're all right mate amen oh good so how's test was get on doing this sort of work as soon as he struggles saying and clearly he's so positive pretty shortly he has hands instead of his eyes and he just makes it happen yeah it just makes it happen 43 year old born with some visual impairment I open the bonnets yeah I then got in a fight at school which made it even worse so as he was telling our translator there um he's as blind as a bat he's got the ls job if he really try to sometimes you know can manage to see a bit of light you know but yes basically he's all blind all right so he's all blind he uses all of his other senses his feel and his smell um to be able to mechanic on the chaos he says it's not a good smell though I know it's not a good smell what about it guys should you like turn the steering wheel where he checks if it works fine we'll rub a washer off so much he's amazed how this car actually got the technical pass this year okay that's mechanic talk I don't understand anyway just checking the Breather for the grand case you know if that blocks up it'll make the engine leak oil I'll blow the engine oil seals out caspers uses his finger like a dipstick to check fluid levels and it comes naturally to him I become a rock Steve as well why he does want to drop him he doesn't want to drop him back in 2007 he was actually thinking of opening up a service shop by yourself yeah but you know since you're a blind person it's kind of hard to deal with all the paperwork and stuff like that yes yes so it kind of the idea kind of fell apart they asked him if he likes working alone mostly or maybe with some friends or something he said he likes doing it alone like peace and quiet never care kind of a meditation for him I see meditation yeah she's a bit worried about the boats but other than that it's all good so take it easy on the sharp turns you know don't go crazy and don't go crazy on Sharp turns well thank you very much [Music] Casper thank you boss thank you good man yeah I thought it was amazing ready for the road Casper's exactly I'm happy you could hear the engine die proved a trusty companion this guy explored where his Luffy and grandfather grew up I'm a mistakes yeah can you see not tarmac on the roads is he loud as it will know as loud as it will hey deals with them boots all right because the ladder gets off and rolls is on you put no stance in and break turn I know what I'm doing Dora Ken Block look out mate we love the ladders love the ladders so the next place we went um 2016 um China is it now class Workshop of the world um what would you say weather on ice so yeah here we go [Music] guys spent three weeks in China traveling 5 000 miles around some of the country's manual labor hot spots all right mate like shanghai's Mega Port could not be any more excited look at it he was completely at home in its back streets and building sites yeah fluid [Music] and it all started with guy getting his hands dirty on day one yeah now we came across this bunch of lads the bang bangs what a bloody name made the bang bang anyway yeah these was all the Dockers sort of yeah sort of the duck yeah yeah get a watch get a watch of this the bang bangs still use pure muscle to haul loads I'm gonna have a goal I don't know how we'll get out he's bloody heavy come on thank you help them lift a drilling engine weighing 200 kilos bang bangs were nothing but coconut matting as protection let me hear the screws creaking in my ankles [Music] babe this is this is what we do oh we're doing the programs We're not gonna do it on a observational level are we we're gonna get stuck in very bad sorry sorry even if we make a big zero bit we're gonna have a go the highlight of guys trip came in Chongqing a manufacturing Powerhouse also known as motorbike City let's get the numbers right there's a million motorbikes churned out of Europe every year in Chongqing there's 12 million mobile it's just that at Chongqing I think we're okay I think we're okay science and technology company is one of a hundred motorcycle manufacturers in this area it's owned by Lee Young Mr Lee what's he listening just testing the engines yeah he's done that before you just pitch your factories full of machines but that's not the case in China 1.3 billion people live in China they don't rely on um mechanized production lines it's all just Chuck people at it because we've got 1.3 billion in the Bookers let's just get yeah so uh yeah very much Manpower very much how many people work here 60. and did the people here do they work seven days a week Ryan brawl those staff lived on site as well out the back [Music] this man's not a matter this wasn't just a factory tour guy was going to work on the line oh hey Chris thank you thank you thank you very much I still got last year's we're on a night Outlet s nice to meet you mate right show me where you want me it's golf though yeah as guy helped build his own electric motorbike the assembly process became an impromptu Chinese language lesson with his new colleague Tweeds Toyota hammer boys [Music] new job like nail gel six six sides on an allen key and that's what he was telling me one two three four five six two okay how long have you worked here uh six year six years six years I've been to University before yesterday started Electronics uh Ba's got Fair idea because he wants to end up owning the factory so fair play once completed guy was given the keys Mr Lee good work mate can't wait thank you thank you very much cheers I don't care about [Music] guy rode his new bike all over the Chongqing Mega City oh look at that I'm turned out look at it so yeah that was China what do you want it we all really enjoyed it I really enjoyed it watch it as for the folding motorcycle it was imported back to Grimsby and given to a good home [Music] I gave it to your nephew as a Christmas present [Music] you say travel Adventure the best the best the best travel program I've done [Music] guy Martin's watching his own travel shows for the very first time next up is a program he never thought would happen cool let's watch this foreign 2017 we went to Russia it was at the time of um the Salisbury poisoning another top a military-grade nerve agent there was just loads of algae Badger going on between the British government and the Kremlin and it was just and we just saw oh this was all like two weeks before we was due to go to Russia which you boys have been planning for six months previous and we just thought oh we're gonna We're not gonna just all of the news that we was getting there's no way in the world they're going to let her get let us get on a flight to Russia never mind let us get to Russia right here we are terminal four please run we're pushing our look a bit um the Russian Embassy has said um they can't trust Western media so we've got a the usual one with us um but we haven't been turned back yet anyway we get on the Fly no bother we get to Moscow no bother you know we're queuing up to get through the past whilst I was a bit peculiar there was a diplomat Lane there with no one in it I thought I'll just chance it I'll try and get in there and we'll definitely get arrested through the Diplomat Lane we get through security no but I haven't got talking to a few Bots and oh yeah yeah come on have a good time enjoy Russia all right Smiles little smile no one gave them monkeys no one gave them monkeys it was Bloody great yeah what a trip thick end of a month we was there I was thinking about hours ready for row but you're just looking at that brings it all back guy visited all of Russia's industrial Giants built on the country's vast natural resources hello diamond he worked in its factories bomb an eight of its stuff contains I just think Lord why you got out of it it was Bloody amazing the toughest working environment guy has ever found was in Siberia this paper mill belonging to Russian conglomerate ilim is one of the biggest factories in the world Jesus what look at the size of that the factory is 12 miles long 12 mile last a lot of factory and the wood that supplies the factory is stored in a three mile long river that leads into the factory it was impressive but what guy was most pleased about was the bright green insulated jacket given to him by the company all the trees have failed farther down river total pier in that sort of State there not on the back of a shipping container and that's here for storage to keep this Factory going throughout the winter I've still got the coat it looks a bit more second-hand now there we go and we'll go with that three years ago three years ago I love my money's worth out of it but yeah it's been out we've done loads of filming in that I wear it all the time yeah and I've kept this this has done me the best for the past three witness the best I still use it yeah the wood is so [Music] the Siberian Forest is 16 times larger than the UK but you won't told me that I remember that that's it that's stuck in my mind teams of loggers work out here on two-week shifts using specially adapted lorries I took loads of pictures of the PTO systems because it's just a different way of doing it that we don't see out here they only have basic facilities it was on a dirt track for about two hours to get to that place right and nothing before it nothing after it but it was killed one out there Siberia breeds Hardy Souls the person in charge of keeping the Machinery working is one of the hardiest this is stanislav third generation lumberjack yeah and he's at it he's at it hard man and you do this all throughout the year I mean today is it a Russian sound he says the colder it gets the more ice cream we sell almost may be harsh but loggers can now fell trees 10 times quicker than the era before Machinery tough as it is today how much respect do you got for your dad and your granddad characters [Applause] the machine that intrigued guy the most could cut fell and strip a tree in one that's impressive look at that we need to have a look at that we want to see how that works Victor I'm going guys nice to meet you cheers not really a motorbike yeah I'm usually racing but I'm not I wouldn't say I was defined by a motorbiking I wouldn't like to be defined by Mountain would you yeah but when someone in a Siberian Forest what 10 000 miles away from where I live probably knows you for motorbike and then I say yeah probably yeah [Music] he's a vegan what if we tell him to come trolls it's obviously got a cutting device on it was it's coming down under its own steam Victor's taking the boom out while speeding it through and cutting it off while the tree is still falling he knows the score and then he's feeding it through and cutting it up and stripping it good job we always will have a go at some of course I'll do I don't want to go at that put a whole lot of you in hospital I said that then and I'd probably stand by that now that you have ended up in hospital if I'd ever let me go in that oh yeah yeah yeah yeah you'd have been claiming on the insurance I'll tell you now I'll tell you now yeah that was a wise move oh no I'm not a selfie man but it was with our man there in a ponzer cutting down the Siberian Forest I was having a picture of that I'll tell you hey the man Liberian forest was dangerous a guy's next stop was deadly and then we went to Chernobyl nuclear power station more than 30 years later people are still working to contain the radiation the relationship between Russia and the Ukraine which is where Chernobyl is is in the Ukraine isn't great so you can't fly from Russia into the Ukraine so we have to fly or sort of under the radar a bit we had to fly out of Moscow into Poland I think it was it was in Krakow was it in Krakow and then fly from Krakow into Kiev and then drive from Kiev up to Chernobyl entry to Chernobyl is strictly by prior arrangement a bit nervous um but very excited every day for seven days guys papers were inspected at the Chernobyl checkpoints cheers that is massive [Music] guy went to the very heart of the radioactive power station he was given permission to enter one of the four identical reactor Halls that is still intact yeah the nuclear reaction happens below this lot yeah we always thought I'm stood on top of it and this this whole thing exploded yeah so you're never gonna be able to see a nuclear power station or closed like this again ever yeah I'm not gonna be forgetting it in Hawaii what's good morning yeah so this is where we can actually see the reactor four where the Pearl or like concrete oh so you boys are crapping yourselves weren't you concrete blocks were horridly assembled on top of the melting core to act as a shield workers did five minute shifts and had to destroy their clothes it is still contaminated not too far access was also granted to the most radioactive section of all in the rafters looking onto the roof of reactor 4. standing by the guy I was into blowing out my house by the time I got to the top of that so I'll go through there I'll see you in a bit mate thank you [Music] to minimize his exposure to harmful radiation he was only allowed in for 10 seconds yeah we're all beeping mate it's going off it's rocker of that so we are right in the danger bit there the level of radiation his personal dosimeter was sounding the alarm [Music] yeah yeah we're going I thought we might have been there we might drag that out a bit longer but what an honor to stand and look over reactor for [Music] yeah it's worth seeing that won't it worth seeing that one of the most dangerous jobs in the world is documenting the melted remains of the reactor itself oh the elephant's faults that is right in the car we're reactor for oh you can see the camera flicker in there these are the radiation riddled pictures of scientific photographer Sergey koshylev what's it like um oh yeah we just got an hour into him um yeah just out of the blue really it was nothing that we'd lined up previously um almost got Naruto and then we found out that he was the man that took the picture of the elephant's foot if we need to work with you you're looking well foreign [Laughter] rescue workers were not allowed to spend more than 90 seconds on the site the Chernobyl cleanup was carried out by a brave set of volunteers and military personnel known as The Liquidators Lads that was in the thick of it was changing their eyes from brown to Blue you know the radiation was empty there was an equipment but he lead caps and leg kicks well that one doing a deal I could really not when he was in and about react to fall that was it get him out let him die sticking them in leg coffins welding them up burying him that's what they were doing one Liquidator who survived your balus to this day he avoids standing on the grass ES [Music] so did you feel as a bit of a matter you know it was a bit of a Kamikaze yes they're still risking radiation poisoning in order to keep Chernobyl safe they work in the forests and what was his name Sasha we went to meet Sasha and he's a forest ranger let me drive his walls yeah yeah let me drive that good crack good crack we're going up here okay okay so him and his team bag Soul goal is to prevent forest fires in the woods in and around Chernobyl on this day their tractor had a puncture guy was only too happy to help yeah I'll go mate I like a very sorry still talking about it I'd probably be doing it limited tools the Rangers improvised a jerk using logs don't fart near it [Applause] in 10 minutes mint that's what they do the cutting tracks in like that like Forest tracks which is just to prevent fire so it's got a bit of a Border Lines where the fire will stop as we sit here there is a mass massive forest fire going on at the moment in Chernobyl [Music] yeah then voice will be in the thick of it yeah the main cause have a forest fire [Laughter] he says he's got his tab on this small team look after an area the Sun the sun Sherwood forests they're always glad of a helping hand okay yeah you want me to go fast past you with a tractor and that was it you didn't see me for an hour oh me and me and you man [ __ ] it off yeah get out and I get in that sort of environment I love it you just yeah ripping around by hey thanks very much cheers come on thank you yeah brings back some memories [Music] that's travel journalizing boy that's called teenage travel journalism next the trip that challenged guy like no other the pressure's on the air isn't it so far guy Martin has watched Five series of his travelogues what am I talking about here Marathon viewing session has just one series left right and the most recent trip we've been on is to Japan so we'll turn her on hang on [Music] you spent two weeks touring a country where its workers are famed for their dedication and precision put your camera in there boy I listen to my voice I thought I'm flood the other side like a rhyme don't I guy put himself through the same disaster training course every Japanese worker attends I thought I'd even crack another is trying to escape from a dark smoke-filled room [Laughter] s I found that I found that guy's personal Dream came true the Tokyo's back streets and Unearthed an engineering Grandmaster here we are number five mini Mickey Moto streets we have met e y San this morning 83 year old tool maker yeah yeah I'm nearly lost for words it's all happening in here come have a look you'll see what I'm on about you'll see what I wanted foreign and that means you've served at least 60 000 hours to be able to become a master in your trade yeah for me to watch this is um mesmerizing swords are they um lathe when I was a 18. and he paid for itself in the first year yeah I try to work to his level but I'm not there yet I might take another 30 years 40 years well in that case 50 years together guy was honored to be given the chance to work under ey Sun oh excited Brave man okay [Music] proud moment I'll never forget like to be honest it wasn't the cleanest of places but it was machine in this valve for um the Water Works and we was doing a court measure they were cut measure and it was just a slightly too large which really warranted another cut but ey Sam took his gloves off felt it and says no no leave it leave it leave it so we went and had we had a bit of a natter it was and had a [ __ ] um came back it called down measured it perfect yeah good work good way that experience and that feel just money cannot buy that the admiration was Mutual make any wise don't get to do that that's all there should we go but the story didn't stop there thank you he gave us a lift in his toy at work but he was very impressed that it was a British Toyota and not a Japanese Toyota sometimes like he has to carry heavy things and this car was designed to be stronger yeah like Japan made ah right okay it's the strongest Toyota built in England they're heavy Springs heavy Springs built a heavier built care um yeah built up in um yeah so yeah yeah he was impressed with that interesting job thank you it's a towards the end of the trip we flew to Hokkaido at the northern Japanese island to go meet um watanabi Sam to go make some swords no not just a sword a samurai sword who's very particular who touched that Soul because um the moisture in your hands will create rust on the steel konichiwa watanabisan thank you blows the girls again an honor guy immediately impressed when it came to sharpening one of the 11 000 pound swords it's the feel Brown Metal Field with your tools it's just yeah you say it's not sort of something you can't teach anyone because I've been you know I've been walking about with metal since I was a kid there are fewer than 80 traditional swordsmiths left in Japan the most difficult skill to learn is the hardening process using a mix of wet clay foreign I already got I always think are you just having my own mic the different thicknesses of clay act as an insulator allowing the sword to heat at different rates creating the Perfect Blend of hardness and flexibility get it to the right temperature and then put it in there as fast as possible timing can you say that brighter Cherry towards The Cutting Edge and then a Dollar Cherry towards the broader pattern later was brought in to ensure no mistakes put into that yeah I could go and knock it out for any point during this operation at any point can you pull the sword to you very slowly yes [Music] a few more seconds smelly cut it one more time one more time pull now fresh is on my internet [Music] okay okay okay okay that man's leaking I'm leaking limited vocabulary boys you know what it's fairly intense I don't want it is the proof of any sword is in its cutting was up to the task thank you thank you very much and you never know Thea you never know guys on personal premiers are over it's a good job boys good job you're not letting me down yet the plan up to now seems to be sort of going down to street level and seeing what grabs my fancy whether it's sodmakers tool makers Tire Fitters yeah you've seen no light is welding up here by using the state on it wherever we go I'd like to stick to this sort of theme yeah where's next [Music] [Music]
