hello and welcome to this guide to the best vst plugins that you've probably never heard of so the plugins i'm going to show you today are incredibly underrated and they're all somewhat under the radar so let's dive right in and take a look at chowdhury dsp now this one is actually a collection of six free plugins including digital emulation effects and some other really interesting vsts as well probably the most well known is ciao matrix which i did cover in a previous video so you may have already heard of it but the basic concept of the plugin is based around delay line trees with each node containing its own individual properties such as delay time feedback pan pitch and distortion the way the plugin lets you build these trees is really interesting and can lead to some really unique sounds there's also ciao tape which is a digital emulation of a reel to real analog tape machine this plugin allows you to build the physical characteristics of a tape machine through a pretty extensive range of parameters [Music] and chow kik is another really cool plugin they offer which is essentially a kick drum synthesizer that allows you to create your own kick sounds based on creative physical modeling of old drum machine circuits now i'm not going to run through all six but i'll leave a link in the description to the collection so i'd definitely recommend going and checking those free plugins out as there's definitely some really cool hidden gems in there so moving on we have the strip back synth plugin hercules version 2. the synth was only released in the last couple months and as you can see it's a very basic intuitively designed plugin with two oscillators and lfo filter and pitch adsr controls as well now you might be wondering why you'd need another basic synth plugin when there are free plugins out there like vital or surge with way more features and onboard controls but if you're fairly new to sound design and you want to practice creating your own sounds from scratch hercules provides a no-nonsense route to learning the fundamentals of sound design often the more complex plugins can put people off learning how to create sounds from scratch as the interfaces just seem way too complex but this kind of plugin is a perfect starting point for understanding how to layer oscillators and add simple lfos and adsr patterns so here are some sounds i made with hercules [Music] okay so up next we have the free vocal tdsr plugin so de-essing is an essential part of vocal processing there's nothing worse than vocals with harsh sibilance or other resonant frequencies and it can completely ruin an otherwise great vocal mix this plug-in makes it incredibly straightforward to remove any sibilance and harshness from your vocals while still retaining the natural character and tone from the original sound so turning this central processing knob starts the plugin allowing you to set the ds's intensity according to your taste so let's have a listen and so this is a dry vocal sample hello it is me again never thought that you were my friend all alone you would play a part make me strong and if we just adjust this main control hello it is me again never thought that you were my friend all alone you would play a part make me strong so you can hear it's reducing those harsh peaks without removing the natural tone of the vocals i'm just going to loop this line here to make it a little bit more obvious what the plugin is doing it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again it is me again okay so next up is free plugins from clang helm now some of you watching will have probably heard of these but in my opinion they're still pretty under the radar compared to some other effect plugins out there so we have mjuc junior a variable tube compressor ivgi which is a saturation and distortion plug-in and dc-1a which is another really cool compressor now i do just want to quickly focus on ivgi which is my favorite of the three this lightweight plug-in is great for adding some subtle warmth and saturation to your master bus or for adding dirty distortion to a particular sound in your mix so we have this main drive knob the output control an asymmetric mix control for determining the character of the saturation a response control and this relaxed variation of the plugin so let's take a listen [Music] up next is h y h-y-e-s-g which is a free sequencer plug-in with a fantastic low cpu design and a versatile range of gate controls the plugin displays this circular sequencer which puts a very unique spin on a classic concept this makes it extremely straightforward to create unique sequencer rhythms this module allows you to experiment with the steps pulses direction and duration of the pattern and you also have this powerful modulation section down here as well which allows you to create some really creative unique effects so let's have a listen to some presets [Music] do [Music] and finally we have the seemingly endless collection of plugins from air windows so air windows have been releasing high quality plugins for a while now the site genuinely has hundreds of effect plugins available to download for free the strange thing about the plugins is that they don't have a graphical user interface and just consist of basic sliders now obviously this means the plugins aren't exciting to look at but it does mean you basically get no bugs and you also get much lower cpu but it is clear that a lot of care and attention goes into the audio processing side of the plugins and they really get you using your ears without the distraction of a fancy gui if you're not sure where to get started i'll leave a link to the air windows starter kit which is a collection of their most popular plugins and i'll also leave a link to their amazing new tape delay 2 plugin as well and there we have it so that's our rundown of the best free plugins that are either seriously underrated or that no one knows about hopefully this video introduced you to at least a couple of plugins that you haven't come across before and if you do want more videos like this make sure you like the video and subscribe to the channel it really means a lot and comment down below any plugins you think are underrated and think more producers should know about and as always thanks for watching and i'll see you in the next video
