hello people of the world watching vehicle reviews on the internet welcome to this the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor today I'm going to get this baby Raptor up in the air we're a nerd out in the tech specs take a look at its bones and then go give it the beans you see what I did there a never mind okay [Music] stainless oh that's neat the recovery hooks are tied into the tow receiver now because this is a raptor a dedicated off-road rig the tow capacity is limited to 5,5 in10 LBS due to the suspension and has a payload of 1375 lb now typically this would have a spare tire right here but because this is a press vehicle uh it's gone they had to use it for another vehicle out back the ranger Raptor utilizes a Watts link with trailing arm solid axle rear suspension inside that solid axle is an electronic rear locker with a 4.27 final drive ratio in case you're wondering how this Watts link functions the whole purpose is to eliminate side to side movement in the rear axle and it's paired with these 2 and 1/2 in remote Reservoir fox live valve coilover rear shocks they have little bash guards oh that's steel and another one plastic it's double protected oh no way that's sick it's it's a true duel all the way how are they making money on this truck Oh by not painting the drive shaft that's how I don't understand why they would just leave that raw steel it's like that on my Bronco too the new fifth generation Ford Ranger codenamed p703 sits on a fully boxed steel frame and currently is only available in one cab configuration for the United States the crew cab this Raptor Edition is the heaviest of the model lineup weighing in at 5325 lb fuel tank skid what is that oh it's plastic that's thick plastic this crazy Contraption right here is for the bypass tube for the active exhaust system as far as the exhaust system goes midpipe diameter time 2 cuz it's true duel 65 mm in diameter which is just over 2 and 1/2 in SAE it's like 5 in of exhaust [Music] as far as the transmission goes in the ranger Raptor it comes standard with the 10 r r60 10-speed automatic transmission with a maximum torque input rating of 600 newm or 443 lb feet interestingly enough seventh gear has the 1:1 ratio so it has three overdrives Transfer Case skid plate steel now that 10-speed is bolted up to a two-speed electromechanical transfer case with a maximum crawl ratio of 6159 to one and also this has a front locking differential as well I like the fact that all all three of these transmission crossmember braces are all removable they unbolt from the frame up front the ranger Raptor utilizes a forged aluminium double AR front suspension the knuckles are cast iron again paired with those 2 and 1/2 in Fox racing live valve front coil over shocks now the front anti-sway bar is fixed it does not have a disconnect feature and it measures in at 27 mm in diameter under engine skid plate nice beefy I think it's steel skid plates painted silver ah bumper steel [Applause] also all right it's time for the braking test nothing behind me ready sets go okay ooh there goes all my stuff mhm quite a bit of suspension dive there obviously that's what you want in a truck like this it was pretty stable smooth no drama in the ABS I would say about average stopping distance for the size of the truck that braking was just made possible thanks to a two piston caliper with a 12.24 in or 311 mm front rotor the wheels they are a 17 by 8 1/2 with a positive 55 mm offset diecast alloy bead lock capable wheel you can see the valve stem is protected down inside the spoke here by the outer removable trim ring where the bead Locker would go wrapped in a 28570 17in BF goodr alter ta ko3 I have the ko2s in my bronos so I'm excited to see how these k3s are these bedlined steel running boards also double as a rock rail to protect your pinch weld area out back you get a single piston caliper with a 12.12 in or 308 mm rotor and the wheel and tire same size as you get up front in the name of science it is now time to give it the beans first I must conduct an assessment of Bol steering and the seats are too slippery I think it's more of the clothes I'm wearing to give an accurate test but the seats are also a little wide for my frame it's got the Raptor logo embroidered in it with red contrast stitching a black suede a steering wheel says Raptor on it it's got the little strip at the top so you can find Center as far as Drive modes go oh there is some Drive modes in this thing this little dial right here I can rotate I can go from normal to sport to tow hul and slippery on the steering wheel you have individual control buttons for your steering your dampers your exhaust also have the little Raptor button like the F-150 and Bronco which you can custom configure and have as a quick access as far as traction control goes there's a button down here in the center next to the little desert scene with some arranger and some starfish flying in the sky we also have quick access for your parking sensors and your Auto Stop start we're going to give it the beans and too high it's not optimal for best traction I would use four Auto for that but this is going to be more fun button right here I can press to hold for advanced track off defeat this gets squirly and too high just out of curiosity I want to see if you can lock the rear diff in too high so I'm press my little desert scene the flying starfish in the sky can I do it too high you can do it too high and uh let's let this thing rip ready go all right little bit of Tire spin oh it hooked up pretty quick though I go some rocks man that thing sounds good that's good that's already good it's fairly quick but this truck is kind of heavy for a ranger however the 10 speed Auto really helps it pull hard in the upper RPMs and speeds we're going to run it back in four Auto just I have to see how the launches at that ready go yep yeah it got out the hole a little bit harder that time I felt the torqu this thing sounds so good though that's that's good good pop wonder if those are actually functional oh yeah I can touch the underside of the plastic right there jeez that's a beefy ass cooling fan set up holy underneath the hood of the 2024 Ford Ranger raptor is the EcoBoost 3 l twint turbo compacted graphite iron block with aluminium head V6 that produces 45 horsepower at 5650 RPM and 430 lb feet of torque at 3500 RPM ecoboost engine Bays aren't typically the most pretty engine bay but I will say this V6 is a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be in here I mean it's just a tiny little engine both the cylinder heads are right here it doesn't sit underneath the wiper cowl the washer fluid reservoir is conveniently squeezed into this typically useless space between the engine bay and the outer Fender does look like it has an electronic brake booster nice quick disconnects for the engine harness into the cab little snorkel duct for the airbox digging a little bit deeper on this 2967 CC 60° twin turbo B6 it has an 85.4 by 86 mm born stroke almost perfectly squared with a 10 and 1 half to 1 compression ratio it does also employ Ford's TI VCT twin independent variable cam shaft timing has a timing chain as well as an exhaust manifold looks to be cast into the cylinder head accessing the turbos isn't that difficult either there's a little oil cooler plate right here for the oil filter and actually if you look down inside there you can see the turbo on the passenger side the intake pipe going to it the turbos are manufactured by Garrett the passenger side turbo sits up higher than the driver side the driver side is like flipped downward that is crazy there's so much room behind the engine between the firewall like you could stuff multiple grapefruits down inside there I'm not saying it's possible but I'm saying it's probably possible to stuff a coyote in this thing a ranger raptor r that'd be pretty sick welcome to Rally special stage 2.0 this is the new stage and as far as Drive modes go off-road I have normal off-road Baja and lastly Rock crawl each one of those modes corresponds to the different settings where they four high four low diffs no traction control for the rally special stage I'm going to use the Baja mode there's also a little button down here in the center that you can tap brings up the menu for you to lock your front and rear diffs I don't need front and rear diffs locked for the stage though all right ready go all right yeah hard on the brakes for this little technical section oh yeah I can already notice a big difference between this and the F-150 Raptor the size of this truck is way more nimble oh huge diff this is the size a raptor should be super Nimble man this thing is incredible Absolut it's like a little baby trophy truck and the V6 makes sense in this thing too it sounds like a ranger I mean oh yeah going into another technical section hard on the brakes kind a scandy flick it right there truck stays fairly neutral gosh so much torque shove nice and tight through there this thing is not sloppy whatsoever it is tight on this Trail you get to do exactly what you want it to jeez I felt my pupils grow on that one I love that I don't have to worry about whacking the crol bushes with this cuz the size of the truck is literally just perfect for this like I said the assn stays right where you want it it's not beating me up that bad concering what I'm actually doing right now oh my God this truck is amazing this is the best Raptor out of all the Raptors they've made this is the best one back through the technical section and done amazing absolutely amazing all right time for the hill climb test uh this hill is challenging because of the breakover at the top and it's mostly sand so it's an interesting traction situation doesn't look like much on camera though we'll do Lo Rock crawl mode it's not rock crawling but put this into four low automatically lock my rear diff I can also lock the front one I have my trail control and I'm not messing with the tire pressure cuz I don't do that in any of my reviews I just leave it at the standard inflation end um yeah I I'll put the breakover approach and departure and ground clearance on the screen for you so I can pay attention to driving it's super soft here at the top and do I scrape I do not good I was a little worried cuz I mean it is a crew cab and it does have the running boards but now I'm going to go down the same Hill oh there's a big pile of oil at the front someone scraped see that's what I was talking about oh maybe that guy that was on the quad bike peed there okay as far as the downhill I do have my trail control oh here you go 1 mile per hour I wish they had a half mile hour cuz sometimes these Trail control features even the slowest speed is still too fast careful Over The Brak over and then I'll put the system in all right it caught it immediately there was no delay okay this is nice and slow this is good okay some systems when you use the trail control systems or whatever different manufacturers call their version of it it's like buggy and it takes a second for it to catch oh you can go by half M hours 1 and 1/2 two 2 and 1/2 there you go nice that was really nice that's one thing you know like in the Toyota system you can really hear the ABS this was this was quiet I was also going fairly slow too oh it's locked weird well apparently it's got a locking tailgate and also it's got some little holes where you can put some cleats camera oh it's a LED light is it going to fall or ah no they put one here but they didn't put one underneath the hood hm oh it's got a cigarette lighter style Outlet back here for like camping and then a power inverter 400 WT cuper tie downs everything's all texture coated 50 in of ruler capability on the top that's really light oh that's neat I didn't even noticed it when was on the lift this bottom portion of the bed is all plastic so it doesn't get full of rock chips the fender flare Blends into the Leading Edge also protect this from Rock chips that's smart that is under here oh some little plastic storage bins under the seat if you're not careful these running boards will act like cheese grap and shave your legs ask me how I know this is the back seat of a ranger this is how a ranger should be it's not an F-150 they didn't make it too big I got plenty of leg room it's got a big indentation in the seat The seat's Fairly vertical but it's not uncomfortable it's got a pretty comfy butt cushion AC power inverter USBC USB old school little Schnack holder black suede little coupler what does this do the whole thing folds all one big piece wait that's it that's all there is for the subwoofer I would expect to be way bigger for how loud that thing is this raptor is as loaded as you can get a new ranger and it does not disappoint in here it doesn't look like a cheap auto part store delivery vehicle has the upfitter switches and the roof they're all pre-wired throughout the vehicle just like the Bronco sunglass holder and it's squishy are you padded yep it's a neat looking design for the vent no way it actually has powerfold Mirrors too [Music] Wireless charge pad electronic parking brake you can tell this thing's designed to have a key on the base models where the push button start is as far as the infotainment system goes you get this massive tablet in the center here super easy menu to use it's got fruit and robot compatibility but most important of all it has this sketch which is a little paint program that you can draw on there's all kinds of different controls in here whoa what oh it's got a picture of a a Mustang Mach why a little coloring book of a F-150 with some huge broozer Wheels how would you color that that would that would take so long oh jeez there is a ton to this thing yeah this this thing is in that's insane there's so many features built into this yeah the stereo does not disappoint in this thing either [Music] one thing I can't stress enough about this truck is it is just the perfect size for most Trails where a full-size truck you're just constantly scraping the sides on tree branches and it's not like it's cramped on the inside the ranger is like the size of an F-150 15 years ago the downsides with this new generation of Ranger I would have to say at least for United States is the lack of of cab configuration options all we have is the crew cab we don't have an extended cab or a single cab option yet the rest of the world gets those and also our base model is not really that base it doesn't have steel wheels offered anymore and they don't offer the seven-speed manual transmission that you can get in the Ford Bronco which is built on the same platform I don't understand why they couldn't offer that with the 23 EcoBoost it's a huge loss there considering that Tacoma offers a manual transmission with the new 2. four turbo a huge positive though is an XL 4x4 Ranger does have enough options in it where you don't feel like you're just getting a Bare Bones Fleet grade vehicle and it's still under $40,000 which is a plus considering how expensive some of the competitors can be as far as the fuel economy goes it's a raptor you don't buy this because you want Prius you buy this because you want to send rocks into orbit and take out sat satellites my big my big my biggest fear is that Ford is going to use this as a loss leader where they have the price set really low for the first year so it's super enticing and then they jack up the price after a year or two kind of like they did with the Bronco I don't know if that had anything to do with the economy and inflation happening but let's hope that the pricing stays the way it is on this right now because it is an absolute steal compared to the competition it is now time to give this thing some scores starting with the bean score the assessment of the feeling you get in your gut when you give it the beans and the ranger Raptor gets a rating of next is the cookie score the assessment of value and as this one is equipped with a couple options at $59,000 it is getting a rating of put this into perspective I just reviewed a regular TRD off-road Tacoma a couple weeks ago that was 55 grand it wasn't even a trail hunter or TR Pro and this is like 3500 bucks more and it has options on it and this is also like 25 to 30 grand cheaper than an F-150 Raptor next is the wrench score the assessment ease of Maintenance and it's getting a rating of next is the meatball score the assessment of off-road capabilities and it's getting a rating of lastly is the Penguin score the assessment on how much I personally like a vehicle and the ranger Raptor earned a rating of I just wish that the overall Ranger model lineup got some more lower-end tiers here for North America some more cab configurations steel wheels and a manual transmission available on the base model Ford come on make that happen anyway hope you guys enjoyed this review I'll see you soon with another bye
