Welcome to Switzerland’s postcard perfect village of Gstaad, which is located in the heart of the Bernese Alps Known as a playground for the rich & famous,  Gstaad provides a year-round Alpine vacation destination The Alpina Gstaad is one of Gstaad’s most exclusive hotels, located just five minutes from the center of the village Arrival to the hotel is via a curving subterranean porte cochere Welcoming its first guests in 2012, The Alpina Gstaad was the first new 5-star hotel to open in Gstaad for more than a century It took owners Mr Minram & Mr Bach 15 years to build the hotel in adherence with the town’s strict building codes The hotel was built on the site of the Grand Hotel Alpina, which was demolished on April 11, 1995 The Alpina Gstaad’s construction costed approximately $336 million USD, with an average cost of $5 million per room Guests enter the hotel via a double story lobby atrium The lobby’s ground floor features the reception & concierge area, a boutique, jewelry shop, as well as the entrance to the spa The atrium’s piece de resistance is its ceiling, which is adorned with a 350-year-old painting salvaged from an Italian church The lobby’s upper floor features a bar & lounge area, with huge windows allowing for views of the surrounding mountains The lobby’s walls and ceilings are decorated with antique wood reclaimed from Swiss farmhouses Huge columns are covered in Moore & Giles  leather which is embossed with a marquetry pattern The lounge is very busy during the day (I filmed this sequence in the early morning as not to disturb other guests) The Alpina Gstaad’s 3 restaurants are also located on the lobby level (I’ll explore these venues later in this video) Have you ever stayed at The Alpina Gstaad? Leave a comment Next to the lobby is the Cigar Lounge, which takes its inspiration from the famous establishments of Havana True connoisseurs can choose from a selection of over 60 different cigars stored in the walk-in humidor The Alpina Gstaad hosts its own permanent art collection installed throughout the hotel and grounds The collection includes works by leading artists of the 21st century who explore the interplay between technology & nature Let’s take the elevator to the guest room floors The Alpina Gstaad features 58 spacious rooms & suites I stayed in this room during my trip (room category: Deluxe Suite) The suite features two separate spaces which can be closed off or connected by a sliding door The suite’s lounge area comes with a fireplace and is decorated with locally crafted accessories & a period bookcase The spacious bedroom has a kingsize bed and features a large ensuite dressing room and bathroom The bathroom is equipped with a bath tub, double vanity, and walk-in shower French doors open up onto a spacious, south-facing  terrace with beautiful views across Gstaad and the mountains This is the view from the suite after one night of heavy snowfall Let’s return to the ground-floor lobby and explore The Alpina Gstaad’s Six Senses Spa The Six Senses Spa is inspired by Asian traditions and draws its energy from the Alpine heart of the Bernese Oberland The spa offers treatments designed to indulge the senses The wellness center has a natural feel with curved walls, water features, timbers and wells of sunshine Spa facilities include 12 treatment rooms and a tranquil relaxation area with a Six Senses juice bar  The spa features a large indoor swimming pool with loungers, two Jacuzzis and a kids pool (with slide) Next to the spa’s relaxation area is a gym The spa’s locker rooms are equipped with saunas, steam baths, hot & cold plunge pools, and ice showers Facilities at the spa include a salt room The spa also connects to the Jean Mus-designed garden, where the outdoor pool makes the most of the Alpine location Designed by architectural firm Jaggi & Partner AG, the hotel is a modern interpretation of a traditional Swiss chalet Hundred-year-old fir wood, gathered from Alpine farm houses, decorates the hotel's magnificent façade The hotel's gabled roof, embellished with dormers and peaks, is of natural slate The hotel offers complimentary transfers to Gstaad with a fleet of electric Teslas Model X and Mercedes V-class cars The Alpina Gstaad features three restaurants, all sharing a single floor next to the double story atrium Megu Restaurant is the hotel’s Japanese dining room Nestled in its own niche at Megu is a brand-new bar dedicated entirely to the world of Japanese whisky The bar offers Switzerland's greatest collection of Japanese whiskies Gault Millau has named Megu as the top Asian restaurant in Switzerland The interior incorporates antique kimonos, Alpine fir wood, and slatted wood partitions inspired by the temples of Kyoto At Sommet Restaurant, Executive Chef Martin Göschel  celebrates the finest products from Saanenland and Switzerland The Guide Michelin awards the restaurant with one star, and Gault Millau gives the dining room a score of 18/20 points Amuse bouches Schlössli shrimps, jelly, double cream, hay kombucha Coregonus, sweet & sour marinade, little gem lettuce, Swiss oona, Caviar Osietra Carat, Rösti potatoes espuma Cheese ravioli, beetroot, purslane Beef fillet, saddle of rabbit, Swiss chard, pumpkin seed emulsion The dessert is prepared at the table: pickled peach, sabayon, rosehip ice cream The Swiss Stübli Restaurant is the very embodiment of Alpine spirit, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere Stübli serves classic and traditional Swiss dishes such as raclette or fondue, from all four corners of the nation The Alpina Gstaad also features a private cinema, perfect for a post-dinner movie night The next morning ...
