this might honestly be the best car I have ever reviewed this is the brand new 2024 it's updated for 2024 Mazda Miata or MX5 this is in the Grand Touring spec in Snowflake white looking beautiful however me personally I would go for the club speec with the brambo ricaro upgrade which is a $4,500 update but I think it just transforms the overall look of this car and I do think it's a beautiful design it looks much more upscale and much more EXO IC than the price would suggest so what we're going to do in this video is have a look at this design from a front side and rear the interior I'm going to let you know what's new for 2024 we do have some changes for the headlights and the tail lights for example and also in the interior and then of course we're going to take this and do what this is all about this is so much fun to drive we're going to take this for a driver I'm going to let you know exactly why I love this car so much under the hood of the 2024 Mazda Miata r F we have a 2 L naturally aspirated 4 cylinder putting out 181 horsepower 151 lb feet of torque connected to of course in this case a six-speed manual you can have it with a six-speed Auto however I don't know the reason why anybody would P pick the auto for this car 0 to 60 is done in 5.9 seconds fuel economy comes in at 26 MP gallon City and 35 Highway the price for this as tested is around $38,000 starting with with the front end design the Mazda Miata has never been really an aggressive design but when you look at this car if you look at these eyeballs here they look like they're always ready to go out and have some fun and then of course further down you have the big smiley face the big smiling uh Grill in the front end of the Miatas I do think everything comes to together so nicely with the Miata the ND this looks way more sophisticated than the previous generations even though I love the NC as well and the NC is actually a little bigger than this one this shrunk which is something that we rarely see in new cars today one detail I absolutely love about this design is first of all the graphics in the front end I do think it looks beautiful it looks clean elegant but I love these fenders these big muscles that we have going over the front axles because when you sit inside this car and I'm going to let you know how well by the way I fit inside of this me being 61 I thought I was going to have problems fitting in this car but for some reason it feels way more spacious than I was expecting these are just beautifully sculpted hoods and this line cutting in here creating a bit more aggressive feel for the eyeball up here and again we do have new headlights for 2024 so let's take a closer look at the internal pieces of the headlights and let's see what's new for 2024 so some of the new features that we have for 2024 is first of all this being the Grand Touring we do have adaptive full LED headlights only for the Grand Touring but but we also have this uh daytime run light you can see that in here it's now moved from down here into the headlight and I do think it creates a very strong brand identity for the Mazda brand overall and it definitely gives you this Miata vibe there is no way when you look at this front face that it is any other car than a Miata even if you're not a car person you're still going to recognize this for exactly what it is now a couple of things that I would personally want to switch up for the front end of the Miata is first of all the I I do like this line that cuts into the bumper down here but it is fake there is no function to this intake right here another detail I love down here is for the Grand Touring we do have this front splitter in each Corner sticking out a little bit but as I said if you go for the club with the ricaro and the Brembo package this is going to be even more pronounced just brings up a little bit more aggressiveness to this car specifically when we talk about the wheels so let's have a look at the side view of this car all right so coming around to the side view of this car and just have a look at the size of this car it's so small I feel like I can just grab it and lift it up if I wanted to but I love the proportions of this thing one thing I'm not a huge fan of when it comes to the Grand Touring is you do get these special wheels these are two5 mm wide tires both front and rear but I'm not a huge fan of the 17in wheels that we have here because as you can see just a a part of the spokes are this polished metal feel the rest is all black meaning that the only thing that you're actually going to see of the wheel design itself is just or just these the silver spokes here the rest kind of Fades into the background one thing I always want to have on any wheels that I have on any of my cars would be this silver having that silver go all around the outline of the wheel to create a circle because that is super important at least for me when it comes to wheel design to just have the Outer Circle clearly defined and we don't really have have that in this case another way you can differentiate the Grand Touring from the other specs is if you look at the side mirrors in this case we do have it be body colored in the snowflake Pearl which by the way looks fantastic in the sunshine almost reminds me of the old school Lamborghini balloon white if you remember that color one of my favorite all-time colors for any car is that balloon white one line I do really like in this car is if you see here this go comes back for the convertible as well you have this shoulder line so you have clear clearly defined muscles over the front axles but then you have this very subtle line right here down into the door you also have another line down here to carve out again some of this volume at the very low portion overall it looks like a proper sports car and the the package of this thing just I I can't wait to take this for a drive and show you because this is one of these cars that feels fun no matter what type of Road you're driving on or what type of speed you're going it's still one of the best driving experiences out there today now this being the retractable Fastback meaning that we do have a hard top that is folding down into the trunk and this entire panel this section just opens up and then folds down the roof and then folds back down it's a very interesting solution and what I like about the RF is it feels like it's a lot more insulated of course and if you have the soft top going on highways for example he's going to be a lot more quiet in the RF but I'm not entirely sure which one I personally would buy I feel like the Miata is supposed to always be a proper convertible but the practicality of having this hard toop just makes it very hard to choose now coming around to the rear view of the 2024 Mazda Miata RF we do have some new design features back here as well for 2024 mainly it's going to happen right here in the taillight section because we we have brand new tailights that definitely brings it up to a bit little bit more modern feel for this design same as we have in the front headlight unit because this now is full LED and it has this depth to it so you have a brand new internal piece for the design here the indicator is also brand new here I love the design back here because there are so many beautiful chaffers and clearly defined housing for the key Graphics some of the key features that I love back here if you look at it like you're doing right now from a straight re rear view you're going to see just how much this area bulges out and creates this almost exotic Italian look to this rear end I mean this design for what this cost I think this one is speed around $38,000 with the retractable fast back and the overall design I feel the design just the quality of the design feels like it's a much more expensive car one detail in the rear here that I've always loved with the uh this uh generation ND is this area here just have a look at how beautifully this creates a nice chamfer at the bottom then a nice chamfer up top with the Mazda logo and how these tailight sits within this housing it's just overall a very very stunning design I don't mind that we just have two exhaust pipes on one side that brings it back more to what this the Miata was originally intended to be sort of a competitor to the 60s British roadsters further down we do have this section here and in this case in the back end you have functionality here because these are some reflector lights down here whereas in the front end there it's all covered up by plastic the ND came out in 2016 and it was in 2017 that it was mandatory to put in Reverse cameras in every single car so what did Mazda do here since this came out a year before the timing was a little bit off they still needed to implement the reverse camera so they just decided to put it right here right in the middle of the bumper it looks a little strange to just have a black spot right there something that I just want to rub off maybe they could have I'm not sure where else they could have put it maybe up in the roof but then when we have the roof down the camera's got to be folded down as well so this is pretty much the only solution that Mazda had to bring in a reverse camera into this design even though it looks a little bit strange God I love this interior off the Mazda ND because this feels like an old school classic design we don't even have a huge screen in here so let's fire this up and let me show you around this interior first of all new for 2024 we have this screen right here this is an 8.8 in screen in my opinion this having it be square like this it looks a little bit more sterile than the old one which has angles on the sides but at the same time I just think this screen fits this car better than the old one it just brings it in it makes it feel a little bit more modern up top this is not really soft touch material but who cares it's not super hard as well it does have some softness to it and look at the integration of these vents right here does this remind you of some graphic feature to me this looks like the exact almost outline of the tailight and another detail that was surprising to me is just how wellb built this interior feels you do have some nice resistance to these vents it feels quality and even this little flap here doesn't just flap around around Loosely it feels like it's been properly built and integrated into the interior for this car we do have the tan Napa leather as you can see and this is another reason why I would pick again the club with the ricaro seats because obviously you do get a lot more sporti ricaro seats that are in Alcantara instead of leather these seats are beautifully done not a huge fan personally of the this tan leather that we have here it feels more like a cruiser Miata than the club further down we do have these beauti dials here super simple to use why can't we have more cars uh implementing systems like this they're just very very easy to use there's just one zone climate control in here because I mean look at the size you don't need two Zone uh climate controls in here this is the temp uh dial down here you have the fan speed and it blows really hard as well if you have it on Max here's the dial for where you want the air to blow out from further down you do have this button the magic button for the RF and have a look at this how C cleanly this folds down you don't even have to manually uh release the latch that is attached to the roof or windshield everything just goes down beautifully like that probably around 15 seconds or something like that and then boom you're in a convertible or more of a Target in this case further down we don't have a wireless charger here I do want to have a wireless charger right in this area because this is a perfect slot for your phone to sit you do however have two USBS here USB C's in this case and the buttons for the Heat heated seats are located here as well with the start button up top this is the magic thing about the Miata is this short shift gearbox it feels so nice to just roll through the gears and if you put it into reverse it's going to pop up a very small reverse camera this is one detail that I want to have a little maybe a it doesn't really matter in the in the overall picture of this car but when you look at it I want to at least have it take up the entire width of the 8.8 in display but really who cares about stuff like that when this car is this fantastic in pretty much every other way so this gearbox absolutely fantastic 6speed manual further back you do have this rotary dial for controlling the infotainment screen this is not a touchcreen when you're in the Mazda native system but if you connect your Apple carplay which for the Grand Touring is Wireless then all of a sudden this becomes a touchcreen so Mazda think it's too unsafe to have this be a touchcreen instead you're going to navigate with this rotary and this is another reason why I love this interior you do have a classic old e bra here which also sounds like cars I grew up with and personally I just love stuff like that and it feels like these days you sort of have to pay a premium to get that old school feel I definitely prefer an e braake like this instead of having this little knob electrically just put apply the the E BR you don't have a glove box here instead the glove compartment is located right here so in in between the seats you do have a compartment which you can lock if you want to you also have some more storage behind the seats inside of the back wall here another cool detail about this car is first of all the weight this weighs just over 1 ton which is incredibly lightweight in today's age I think it's about 70 kilos kilos heavier than the first generation 1989 Mazda Miata which is insane because we have a lot more safety features a lot more Tech in this car it's incredible how Mazda managed to do that then you have these typical ND cup holders which you can take take off like this if you want to store them somewhere you can do that you can put it there you can put it back here if you want to now looking at the steering wheel it's a nice small little steering wheel beautiful with the Stitch baseball stitching on the inside you have some metal looking trim on the third spoke and the side spokes here as well the controls for the cruise control settings are right here on the right spoke and the controls for the uh radio settings and the info that you want to have in one of these dials is located on the left side beautiful steering wheel I love the size of it I don't want to have a big steering wheel in a small car like this the smaller the steering wheel usually the sportier the car feels generally now last but not least this beautiful gauge cluster that we have up top fantastic layout it looks almost porschea likee because we have a big beautiful tachometer right in the middle and that is also the biggest dial and it's uh analog in addition to the two screens on each side you have the speedometer on the right side and the fuel gauge and a various information for the screen on the left side and of course we have a clean nice housing for it beautiful interior for this car I don't want to have anything El I don't want to add anything to this interior I don't feel like anything is missing this is Peak Tech that I want to have in my car I don't need anything more than this on the left side of the steering wheel you do have a couple more buttons here for example the automatic high beams which is also something that is specific for the Grand Touring you have the traction control settings here as well so let's pop the roof back up so you can actually hear me because we are about to take this beautiful 2024 Mazda Miata RF Grand Touring out for a drive [Music] I've had this for a few days and I've already put about 150 miles on this car already because I just can't stop drive this is one of these cars that when you get out of this car and you just see it parked you just have this itch that you need to go to the grocery store or you need to maybe do a second workout at the gym you just need to go in and drive this car that is how much fun this car is and the thing is it's just a 2 L naturally aspirated uh 4-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 151 pound feet of torque it's not those are not impressive numbers today at all but then again it it it's all I mean weight just kills it's so good to drive weight just kills any sort of uh driving Dynamics and the sense of speed that you get in this car if you're going for example 40 mph it feels like you're go 90 that all has to do with the sizing and the weight of this car just being spot on and this being just 70 kilos lighter than the original uh Na it's incredible to me how Mazda managed to do that revs to 7,000 RPM and it's we're going uphill now but we're doing 45 now it might from the noise it might look like we might be doing 100 but that is the thing about this car that I love so much I think this is the only car that really Nails this sensation of just having fun no matter what type of Road you're driving on you can drive on a highway and it's still going to be a very fun car to drive and it's very it's not easy to to engineer that into a car and I do think that is why I think the mazam Miata is the best sports car ever built and the ND I love the reason I love the fact that they uh even made this smaller than the NC so they took a step back and thought what is the essential soul of a Miata and then they just focus on that and they thought maybe the NC got a little too big and by the way we're going to talk about um the Interior Space here so as I said I'm 61 almost 6'2 and I have like plenty of space in here you would you would maybe ask yourself is this a car that you would uh you know take on a uh CrossCountry road trip I would 110% say yes to that question I mean 100 years ago you had people crossing continents in you know with horses and carriages and they had to go out and do their business just hugging a tree and what do I have here I have AC I have comfort comfortable seats it might be a little noisy for today's standards but who cares I can go into gas stations every 5 miles I mean OB obviously I would take this on a a cross country road trip no doubt it's such a fun Driving Experience and this is uh proof that you don't need a th000 horsepower to to have fun in a car I mean driving a car honestly this feels just as much fun as Lamborghini or very high powerered cars that cost 10 times more than this and the reason being is it's not just about the Driving Experience it's also the fact that this costs $38,000 and that is with the Grand Touring I think the base price I'm not sure maybe it's like $34,000 or something like that it it's not a super expensive car but if you're driving a Lamborghini for example you're always going to have that in the back of your head that you're driving a $300,000 car and in addition to that if I go like this in a Lambo I would already be breaking the speed limit while in this I'm only doing 40 and I'm still I still have so much more uh Runway of fun in this car if that makes sense so now we're coming on to the highway here we're cruising in about uh 70 at the moment it's not too noisy in here and this is one of the main reason why I would probably consider uh getting an RF over the the the soft top because I do think that I haven't I don't remember if I've reviewed the soft top I did a Miata maybe that was an RF for 20123 but I'm not sure how how loud the non RF the regular softtop it's on highways but this feels totally fine for me the only thing though uh that that is uh that I wish this car had is maybe a seventh gear or an overdrive or something like that because right now we're doing 70 and we're holding at 3,000 RPM which feels a little high for me uh for a long cruise even though the fuel economy is just absolutely fantastic in this car so how can we sum up this uh Mazda Miata for me this is what it's all about when it comes to driving it's just one of these cars that have this old school analog vibe to it love this new gear boox in this case 2024 I forgot to mention we also have a new limited slip differential in the back that is supposed to keep this a little bit more stable when you're breaking and accelerating overall it's it's a great SP as I said to me this is the best sports car ever made and it's always been that since 19 1989 because it feels like it has one purpose and we don't have a lot of cars today that are built for one specific purpose we don't even have a glove box here or any storage in the doors this is just made for one reason and that is to enjoy the act of driving and it does that so incredibly well and for a fantastic price point and it also looks this great it's just a complete package if you're looking for a sports car don't worry about the power numbers and the 0 to 60 times because this one this will make you feel like you're driving a super car when it comes to how much fun this car is to drive e e for
