Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Before we get started⦠CARS AND BIDS!!!
All VW had to do was slap in that new fancy diff and boost the PSI a bit in this 2022 and it would have been perfect. After seeing this it's obvious that everything has suffered on the '22 except for the drivetrain.
Someone needs to make better-looking side marker lights! I hate it with a passion.
My biggest gripe about the mark 8 is that the wagons don't have the fancy VW logo tailgate opener anymore; that is reserved for the hatches only just like the mark 6. Oh, and the user experience with all those fake buttons.
I don't yet know if the bi-modal exhaust made it to the 8 wagon; the 7.5 has all four pipes going at all times, and the 7 wagon only had two of them at all times.
I donβt understand why people get so upset about new cars that they arenβt gonna buy. So what if itβs not the same as your Mk7.5? Were you gonna rush to the dealers and slam down money for a Mk8? If you were and now your disappointed then get a different car.
The verdict is in! The 2022 is the hottest hot hatchback. The Dougscore is the same as the Mk7 but he puts the weekend score above the daily score - fair I suppose.
However, not enough of a difference to persuade me to let go of my '17 Mk7 with stage 1 APR tune; that's probably got the equivalent power and torque as an unmodified '22.

Almost like the car reviewed here, Doug gets a higher Dougscore than savagegeese, by virtue of fun factor; Mark Sanew is bit dull IMO
Interesting fact about the taillights having βGOLFβ on them. Did the prior gen Golf Rs say Golf anywhere on them?
I feel good knowing I own the last of the Mechanical Gold Rs. 2017, actual buttons, actual gauges, 6MT.
The mk8 tail lights are weird to me, and the eyebrows are weird to me. The New R logo looks cheap-o to me as well.
I really want to drive one for a comparison though.
Does anyone else not like this guys videos? Not a fan, myself.
