the 2019 Motorola Razr in 2024?: Let’s Explore!

in 2019 smartphone companies were releasing their version of foldable smartphones like this one here Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy fold and Huawei released the mate X just to name a couple of the foldable smartphones but what we have here today is the 2019 Motorola Razer the gold one I got this one refurbished from Amazon brand new as you can see for $198 which is crazy considering when these were released in 2019 they a whopping $1,500 I remember this Smartphone getting really hyped up all the way to release and then once it was dropped it flopped pretty badly and we're going to talk about some of those reasons today but let's open this thing up and see what we got oh wow that's a lot of open space for a smartphone in a box but hey looks like we got a fast charging block not bad I'll take it a USB C type charge cable okay I'll consider that a score as well as the 20 2019 Motorola Razor itself I'm super excited to open this thing up one of the reasons this phone got so much hate back in 2019 is because CET put this phone into their folding robot called The Fold bot by the way I love this fingerprint sensor right here and I love the texture on the bottom CET fold bot opened and closed this device to see how many times it could open and close before it seized up or broke unfortunately it Oh shoot what what is this this is refurbished from Amazon I can't even close it uh okay this isn't good yikes well something's loose in there but to this point here the phone was only able to be opened 27,000 times before it completely seized up the average person opens their device 60 to 80 times a day so at that rate this phone would only last just over a year and for $1500 that's a pretty bad investment hey I'm just glad this thing turns on by the looks of the screen it looks a little bit warped so the next question is going to be does the touchscreen work all right we got this thing started up doesn't look bad at all I do have to say the volume and power buttons are so small it's hard to feel them they're just really low profile but glad to see that they're working so no complaints there I don't I don't like this this is the OLED screen which is a bendy piece of plastic pretty much and you could almost lift it off the phone now you don't want to pry up too hard if you do this because you'll damage it but imagine this in your pocket if dust or little tiny rocks get under that screen and you close it you're going to be pretty much screwed now this is really annoying me right here and while making this video I looked a bit deeper and look what I found shoved in the hinge of this phone that is it's a screw just like we were talking about I eventually got it removed but the phone isn't air tight at all so if you get little tiny anything stuck in the hinges or under the screen it's going to damage the screen or cause the phone to seize up now one of my favorite things about this phone is the placement of the fingerprint reader it is in such a convenient spot and my finger just fits perfectly into it so I really like that I really love the fingerprint reader because it reads so dang fast faster than any other Android phone that I've used so fast fingerprint is a happy joh Zoid another interesting concept of this phone is the touchscreen on the exterior of the phone because it reminds me of some of those mini smartphones that I use you gain pretty much every single function that you have on the primary screen of the phone including a dialpad for making phone calls which is funny as well as access to YouTube who doesn't love a little bit of esauce comment below if you guys like Vsauce because I'm definitely a huge fan the unfortunate part is it doesn't really fit to the exterior screen if you're watching like YouTube shorts but if you're watching a normal video in full screen it fits so perfect look how cute that is I think you could use the phone fully just with this outside screen also where's that speaker coming from this thing is loud now this phone being Motorola also has this game called Astro Odyssey which is definitely Motorola branded with the music and the Moto sounds in the background it's actually a really addicting game especially if you didn't want to open your phone and you just wanted to Tinker with something this is the game to play I'd have to say one of my favorite things I found for the phone was the Motorola phone style launcher which replicates the original 2004 Motorola Razor once launched it gives you the feel of the old school 2004 flip phone which this is nostalgic if you're like me and you either used or owned one of oh buddy it's got a functional dial pad this is this is too good I'm loving this best part about it is when you press the menu you have all of your applications right on the screen that's too cool I've got this running Android 11 currently so there's not any applications that you can't launch one of my questions was if you launch the app will it stay the same size as the launcher screen fortunately the launcher doesn't have any limitations to making it full screen so that's great when you open an application it uses the entire screen of the phone which is definitely a plus also when I launched YouTube right here and watched in full screen I feel like the screen of this phone is just huge I don't know it just feels bigger maybe it's because I'm used to the phone folding up and then when you open it it seems bigger either way it's a great size other than the screen being all rippled and bumpy I like the phone it's pretty cool and the screen's really responsive and snappy again it's not that old not as old as most phones that I'm taking a look at but I'm so sold on the folding concept of the phone and I also love the exterior screen of the phone where you could do literally anything on it like right here I'm launching Call of Duty and the 2019 Moto Razer is actually rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset so doesn't have any issues playing Call of Duty and even better it can play it on the outside screen which is just just super cool by the way if any of you guys play Call of Duty my gamer tag at least on Call of Duty mobile is joh zooid just how it's spelled on the channel so go ahead and throw an ad or request and we can go live sometime just be warned if I'm playing on this little guy you're going to annihilate me so there's not going to be much competition but uh yeah feel free to add me as a friend the cool thing about the exterior screen is you could customize your apps and really launch anything you want from the small screen on the outside of the phone which is a really cool feature and these foldable smartphones still use this feature today all right let's take a look at the camera the back camera is 16 megapixels and the front-facing camera is 5 megapixels but I'm going to show you guys why this phone's unique let's snap a couple photos that we can look back on and then we'll review them to see the quality of those photos of course now I do have to say that the selfie camera is really good but it's even better when you close the phone and use the back camera or the main camera as a selfie camera with the external screen that's that's pretty cool because that's a 15 megapixel photo all right let's go into our photos and see how good the camera actually is by reviewing the photos oh wow hello John Zoid looking good today I took all of these photos with the primary camera other than one of them I used the selfie camera which is this one right here and then this is also the main camera taking a photo of the Xbox controller which looks absolutely fantastic 16 megapixel camera and the photos are coming through really high resolution I like it oh and then this is a random one I took of me the other day with the true selfie camera oh yeah look at those specs with this phone flipping open and closed it reminded me of a Game Boy Advance SP and so I downloaded a Game Boy Color emulator just to see how it felt and to be honest even with the touchscreen controls it felt fantastic for emulating on a Game Boy like this I feel like the plastic feel of the screen is actually a little better when I'm going back and forth with Mario you just slide your finger left and right specifically your left thumb and overall it feels really nice again I'm unsure if that is the plastic but it feels better than when I play on something like a note 8 or a note 10 plus the other game I have is a classic It's A Bug's Life and it plays really well these are such nostalgic games to me I grew up playing on handheld as I've told you guys a million times and other than that flash effect effect almost making me go blind this totally brings me back and just feels amazing to be playing it's so funny when I used to play these games I tried so hard to get past each level spending literally hours on hours just to beat a certain stage and get to a certain point in the game but as a 29-year-old playing these games I just don't have the patience and I could only do it a couple rounds overall this phone was a lot of fun to play with for $190 off Amazon but if I were to buy this phone back in 2019 for $1,500 it would have been a true disappointment with the screen build the folding issues and it's locked to Verizon which totally sucks you can't use it on any carrier but it was a fun phone
