this video it's not a review this is your guide to find out what makes virgin voyages oh so different from other cruise lines so that you can decide if it's a good choice for your next vacay I'm going to be breaking down the Virgin experience into eight manageable bite-size categories from the cruise style to the Stater room and of course the food we're going to see it all by the way if you're new here my name is Kevin and I am the flip-flop traveler I'm here to give you honest content about flights hotels trains and cruises I paid for this cruise out of pocket and as always the price that I paid is in the description below virgin voyages had no knowledge that I'd be filming and I didn't receive any compensation for doing so everything in this video is my personal opinion based on my own unique experience the rest I'll let it speak for itself let's get started I got to be honest this was one hell of an experience a cruise like no other in many ways not even really a cruise at all I genuinely believe that virgin voyages coming onto the scene is without a doubt the biggest thing to happen to the cruise IND since since we realize there's more to cruising than just going between New York and London A diversity of choices is never a Bad Thing nor is a diversity of guests on board the first thing we're going to talk about is demographics because I promise you that in this regard virgin is exactly what you thought it was plus probably exactly what you didn't imagine it was first off no kids allowed that's out of the way beyond that it is surely a younger crowd in general General but that doesn't really take that much in this industry what surprised me though was the broad spectrum of Ages on board I can assure you it was 18 to 88 and everything in between the difference is that Gen X and Millennials are not in the minority here think of any cruise that you've been on before can we just be honest with ourselves and admit that every Cruise out there has a hyp specific Target guest the way I think of it is a Celebrity Cruises like Midtown Manhattan cosmop modern a bit Glitz Royal Caribbean they're like Park Slope Brooklyn a total family neighborhood but still a bit of a modern flare Norwegian it's like Hoboken smaller still modern but clearly an alternative princess they're Westchester Suburbia familyfriendly upscale Holland America the Upper East Side refined older and expensive I think you get my point virgin is simply the entire metro area it's the only Cruise line out there designed specifically for you to be you whoever that may be with everyone that you want to be with period next up we have technology and how integral it is to the Virgin experience this is surely a love it or hate it moment but your entire cruise will be in your phone dinner reservations which can be made up to 45 days before sailing entertainment reservations which you can't make until you're connected to the ship's Wi-Fi the daily rundown of activities your easiest way to communicate with your stateroom attendants when it's time for a bit of cleaning your GPS device so that the crew can find your exact location when delivering your bottle of champagne your menu your entire cruise you get the point for the most part it's well done and seamless but from someone who always has one or two phones in their hands at all times even for me it did feel like a bit much the food thank God this has to be a 10-minute video if not it might be 3 hours and all because of the food there's no buffet there's no main dining room there are simply restaurants novel oh and it's all included even soft drinks rather than your traditional Buffet virgin has the galley it's a collection of small eateries with a variety to suit everyone's tastes everything hot is cooked to order and you can order whatever you want from whatever stalls you want and it'll all be delivered to your table raise your little flag on the table and the crew will be right over to take your order I've read stories of how weight times here can be excessive personally I never experienced that forget about all of that though perhaps the single thing that makes virgin both Head Over Heels better and in every way different than other cruises are the restaurants on offer first up you've got the wake a legitimate gorgeous Steakhouse serving brunch and dinner then we have razzled Dazzle a stylish venue focused on plant-based options but also with plenty for the carnivores as well pink Agave is their hyper Fresh Mexican Cuisine Restaurant GBE Korean Barbecue on a cruise ship enough set extra virgin your one place for all of the classic and modern Italian fair that you can handle and then there's the Test Kitchen which serves up Exquisite tasting menus which you'll be craving for the rest of the crws oh and and those are just the sit down restaurants for dinner let's not forget about the pizzeria open until like 2:00 a.m. with the best pizza that I've ever had on a ship the dock house an indoor outdoor lounge with a mes cart rolling around all day long and there is more but we do have to save something for the full review if you like good tasty food in an environment that doesn't scream smoking jackets then virgin might be your cruise line oh and almost forgot there's also grab and go food all over the ship brilliant idea the entertainment on board is is so hard to nail down in a couple of sound bites because there's not really anything else at se to compare it to there's an over-the-top chargeable dinner show that is worth every penny a theater that can be reconfigured in Endless ways to match the show's needs comedy specials live DJs actually good ones Mystery Theater which is heavy on the adults only part there are no Grand venues but you'll remember these shows in these clubs for far longer than any Beatles cover band you've ever seen time time yes even time is different on Virgin as in things happen later than on a normal Cruise you'll get on the ship starting at 1:00 p.m. not 10: or 11:00 a.m. you'll usually pull into ports around 7 or 8 instead of 5 or 6 the benefit of this is you'll be The Last Ship import at the end of the day restaurants and bars are open later and in my opinion the best part about all of this disembarkation is also later I got off the ship around 11:15 other than this Cruise I don't think I've ever been able to stay on board past 8:30 the state rooms there's really not that much that is different about them except well everything the beds transform into a day look practical no kind of cool on a c day yeah the entire room can be controlled by your iPad on the desk the closet is open plan so it's just easier to get around still and sparkling water is always in the room ready for you from the get-go you'll have two stateroom attendants who will introduce themselves to you and they rotate their shifts you might be thinking oh no more tipping nope it's all included in your fair as is basic Wi-Fi the best thing about the rooms though the hammock oh my God the hammock I bought one it's just as comfortable but there's something about the missing C view which doesn't quite hit the same way the ship design from the exterior I think she's striking and and both the shape and color tell you loud and clear that this is not your average type of cruise on board it's mostly hyper modern but still comfortable in almost every way shape and form one thing that you may need to get used to though is the layout there really are not that many corridors on board the common areas are very compartmentalized which gives it a feeling which is much more oceanliner than Mega cruise ship perhaps because it's not a mega cruise ship what has received a lot of criticism though are the exterior decks first the pool is comically small there's no way to get around that in addition to that there's also less Vantage points on board to simply enjoy cruising itself you literally can't access the forward part of the ship unless you're in a suite and the rear of the ship up on the top has this weird wraparound seating area which was my exception to saying that everything is comfortable you can't make something completely new without pissing some people off so I hardly fault the design flaws as virgin voyages grows surely their ships will evolve last but certainly not least we have the crew the crew are fun and that's not by accident how can I say this all other cruise lines have a deep dark Line in the Sand with passengers on one side and crew on the other virgin decided to shake up the sand pit and completely get rid of the line You'll see two primary differences from this first up the entertainment staff will be around you among you perhaps even having a drink with you things are very relaxed they certainly have a job to do but part of their job is simply to make sure that passengers are having a vacation to remember and that's not a one-size fits-all type of thing the other difference is with all of your servers bartenders attendance and other guest facing crew it's simply a more casual relationship and I'll give them a lot of credit for seeming well trained on reading passengers some want to interact more some want to talk all day some want to enjoy their corner with their book They're simply friendly and diverse and very very virgin so that's your preview of Virgin voyages and what makes them different but let me tell you a secret literally everything is different not just what I mentioned in this video and that's kind of the point solo Cruisers couples multigenerational introverts extroverts drinkers non-drinkers virgin has carved out a place for all of them so of course I encourage you to watch my full virgin voice review coming out in the weeks ahead but I can tell you for sure now it's going to be a rave one I'll see you next time on board Swiss in business class to New York oh and as always thanks for watching until the end
