hi everyone today i'm turning in my video book report on the blackest cities in america if you've watched this channel for a while you'll know that a while back we did a book report on the black estates in america to know in surprise all the black estates in america were in the south with mississippi georgia and louisiana ranking as these states with the highest black populations today we'll be doing a similar report we're going to assume for this report that several of the cities on this list with the highest black populations are going to be in the south again but we'll find out soon enough the black population in america is growing again after hitting an all-time low of just under 10 percent in the 1930s as you can see in this chart way back when records were first kept the black population was about 20 percent of the us population today we're gonna look at the cities with the highest black populations talk about some famous black americans and reference a few black stereotypes let's get started y'all gonna make me lose my mind up in here up in here y'all gonna make me go all out up in here up in here y'all gonna make me act a fool up in here up in here y'all gonna make me lose my cool up in here up in here we begin our tour of the blackest cities in america in augusta georgia now considering georgia's the third blackest state this isn't a surprise in augusta the black population is 56 percent that's two percent higher than it was in 2010. let's be real georgia is a very black state overall 31 percent of people who live in the state are black augusta is the blackest city in georgia but savannah at 54 percent and atlanta at 52 percent are the 12th and 13th blackest cities so georgia has three of the 13 blackest cities in america to put that into perspective america's least black city is jackson wyoming which is .4 percent black there are 9 500 people in jackson which means there are only 38 african americans in this entire place which also means there probably aren't any chicken joints because that's a black stereotype listed on the internet in fact the nearest popeyes is in boise idaho which is six hours away moving on we're going to visit our next blackest city in america now typically we have to find ourselves a relevant method of transportation the stereotypical black car to drive to our next city would be this but we're not going to stereotype on this channel it's all facts here folks hey mappy what kind of car do african americans typically drive hi nick according to the internet black americans are most likely to drive a toyota camry than any other car thanks mappy okay we've established we're driving a toyota camry let's drive to the ninth blackest city in america shreveport louisiana here in shreveport the black population is 56.4 percent only slightly higher than in augusta that is four percent lower than it was only 10 years ago and as we'll see later in this video like the very next city there's a handful of cities in louisiana that rank high on this list makes sense since louisiana is the second black estate in the u.s with a 32 african-american population okay so earlier we looked to see where the chicken joints were but we need to look up more things to see if shreveport has a lot of them or not let's look up what do black people like here's one actual real answer from a real news agency black americans apparently buy a lot of dry vegetables and grains baby food i guess they have a lot of babies personal bath fresheners and deodorizers blacks are cleaner than average and juices and drinks oh you mean grape drink that makes sense this is well shade grape drink you see it's very very grapey yeah that's because whale shade has more grape juice 40 more grape juice than any other leading grape drink it's delicious if you scroll down african americans bought up 86 of all ethnic hair and beauty aids last year what like weaves how many weave places are in shreveport oh there's a lot there's even dalamania and dalamania well good news our next black estate in america new orleans isn't very far only about five hours away not like our dope toyota camry couldn't handle a long drive or anything here in new orleans the black population is 59 percent that's actually lower than it was 10 years ago despite the fact that 50 000 blacks moved to new orleans in the last decade that means new orleans is growing fast and it's attracting many different races now new orleans definitely has a long and storied black history new orleans is home to jazz music which was invented by the black community the food here is also heavily influenced by the black population gumbo was brought to america from west africa same goes for religion and clothing in fact when the slaves came to new orleans a long time ago all the various tribes and cultural backgrounds melted into one big mix of different african cultures what about dance favorite dance styles for african americans it says tap dance the cakewalk the charleston the jitterbug popping locking the worm the electric slide look at these the moonwalk i like to dance hey miss mappy i bet you do like to dance what's your favorite dance slow dancing uh okay nappy got mad at me that we were talking during the new jersey video i know he got mad at me too we're just gonna have to talk on the dl miss mappy oh hey mappy hey moving on good news again we're not going to have to drive very far to get to our next blackest city in the u.s again it's montgomery alabama here at montgomery the black population is 59.8 percent which is slightly higher than new orleans montgomery also has a five percent greater african-american population than it did just 10 years ago the national center for the study of civil rights and african-american culture is in montgomery that's cool and of course montgomery is home to the montgomery bus boycott back in 1956. it was started by rosa parks who refused to go to the back of the bus the bus boycott drew a lot of attention and lasted an entire year as such eventually it helped get the buses desegregated good for them it rains a lot there and did not take the bus for a year really takes some determination because african americans don't like rain right well let's see let's check twitter black people hate rain oh i just tweeted that hold on oh god oh god oh god okay well no word on the rain thing but i did find an article that says black americans can't swim very well interesting all right so it's time to pile into the camry and drive pretty far this time it took a while but here we are pulling into baltimore hey can you put your shower cap onto your headrest because you're dripping all over the seat as the sixth blackest city in america baltimore is 62 black also interesting of note is that about a thousand more black americans leave baltimore then come in every year why are they moving from baltimore interesting did you know baltimore was called the most dangerous city in america what's wrong with you mappy that's a little inappropriate by the way i still can't get over what happened to you in that washington video that was so epic mappy thanks for helping me get through that nick you're a good friend i know and so are you mappy want to call somebody in baltimore hello mike's fried chicken we make our own fried chicken fresh every day with our own personal better next time pad embarrassing all right moving on we're going to head on to our next blackest city in america memphis here in memphis the black population is 63.7 percent which is slightly higher than it was 10 years ago additionally memphis has the second most black americans of any other u.s city at more than 400 thousand memphis is home to the place where dr martin luther king jr was killed it was one of the worst days in american history the national civil rights museum is also here that's a very important place we're going to remain in the south as we come to our fourth blackest city in america miami gardens this is a suburb of miami here in miami gardens the black population is 68 which is actually 8 percent less than it was 10 years ago additionally miami gardens is about 25 latino mostly cuban and dominican so you can expect to hear a lot of cuban music and rap here why rap well because it's one of the most popular musical styles of black americans what famous black rappers are from florida well there's flo rida to start there's also t-pain mace and lil pump these guys aren't black nor are they from florida but they're super cool and i bet they're good rappers we're gonna hop back in the camry as we stroll to our next blackest city in america birmingham alabama here in birmingham the black population is 72 percent which is a little lower than it was just 10 years ago in birmingham there were a lot of civil rights protests in the early 60s which drew the attention of the national media a ton of black americans were arrested while standing up for their rights here including martin luther king jr you can bet that if there was a twitter back then it would have blown up that's because african americans used twitter more than any other race oh man we got a haul this time we just got word that our second blackest city in america is detroit i don't know if the camera can make it detroit has several interesting facts first it's 79 black which is actually three percent less black than it was 10 years ago additionally it's the only city north of the mason-dixon line to be on this list lastly detroit has by far the biggest overall number of black americans of any other city at more than 750 000 detroit has motown records which was a predominantly african-american music label in the 60s and not too far away from detroit is battle creek michigan home to many large cereal factories mappy do black people like cereal the black population's 13 times more likely to buy sugary cereals than any other race thanks mappy i love me some cheerios the unsinkable taste of cheerios not a lot of sugar to sink them o's cheery cheerios all right so we're gonna have to hop in the damn camry one more time as we go all the way down to our blackest city in america jackson mississippi the capital of mississippi has a black population that's 81 percent jackson is also growing its african-american population 10 years ago the city was 78 black now let's compare jackson mississippi to jackson wyoming the little city we talked about earlier there are 137 000 african americans in jackson mississippi and only 38 black americans in jackson wyoming like all the other cities on our list jackson has a storied history within the african-american community civil rights leader charles evers is from jackson musician beau didley is from jackson bb king james earl jones and jerry rice are too all right so that's it the blackest cities in america hopefully you learned something i did if you're curious these are the least black large cities in
