a good evening today I'm going to show you how to test a universal motor this is from my washing machine which I am currently troubleshooting today you can see the model it's welding and I wrote down a diagram of this motor so I was gonna do today's and go and I rotate it you wanna test it at low speed and low voltage using this 12 volts battery so what I want to do is rotate it first in forward so I'm gonna do a connection between terminal number 1 going to the first coil this is the winding oil on the side so the first we need to go through this coil which is the winding then we'll go out and then go into the armature which were the carbon brush are installed and connected then we go out again at terminal number 8 so we will have a complete loop from number one then passing to this winding coil going in again to the armature then out again at terminal number eight so that we can have a complete circuit and we can rotate the motor at 12 volts and let's test it now so terminal number one is in here and terminal number 10 is in here so I'm going to jump terminal number nine and terminal number then now we've got this too in here as you can see then I'm gonna get this line number one in number eight and the second one at line number one then just to see if there's no short in the circuit hey that's good and we will try to energize it right so this is I'm doing this without any protection and it uses because I only got a 12 volt battery with a 7.2 eh only this is just for low voltage testing so I can test it at low speed because the problem right now my washing machine is that it doesn't rotate at low speed so I have a doubt that problem is in the motor but just to be sure I want to test it at low speed and just to isolate the problem and I want to see if the problem is in it's really in the board or in the motor so let's try it mmm as you can see through dates it rotates you can get it to be connected properly okay now you can see I don't know if you can hear this right - now rotating counterclockwise rotation I see it it's clockwise rotation at low speed and by the way I will show you that this is a VC battery of course there's no AC battery sorry for that this is a DC voltage so that means if you connect it in forward supposed to rotate that forward position that since this is a universal motor the polarity doesn't affect the rotation of the motor I will I will show you it is connected in or word- going to pin terminal number one the positive is connected to terminal number eight now I will try to reverse polarity so I get that I will I'll just show you that it doesn't change the rotation because this is a universal motor it depends on the coil by polarity nap on the voltage polarity so I will put it in reverse you can see now that the Vermeil number one now goes to the positive terminal and negative terminal is called negative polarity is going to the number eight terminal so jump it now as you can see it doesn't change the rotation it's still rotating at lap counter clockwise okay so to change the polarity we need to change the wiring so what I'm gonna do right now is I'm going to have a closed loop number one is still a positive will be still up terminal one nine one is to be sure okay I can explain that positive because this Universal motor so line number one will go out number one then it will go through this winding coil then going out at number ten then afterwards number ten I'll go to number eight go to terminal number eight instead of nine I'll go to ten to nine then line number two will be at terminal number nine let's see if that rooty reverse the rotation okay I will get notice a terminal number ten will be going to terminal number remove that for a while terminal number 10 is going to terminal number eight hey in terminal number nine will be our line number two okay there have it try to test it okay as you can see I don't know if you noticed that but you will see that it will go in clockwise rotation right now what I've done there is that I just reverse the polarity of the armature instead up before I put a positive in here and a negative in here but right now I reversed it I just put the negative now at the terminal number nine and nine to add terminal number eight that doesn't change the polarity but it changed the magnetic field that's why Russ in Reverse and another one thing I will show you is that I won't be using this disappointing coil in here what I'll be using right now is the one the winding go at terminal number five this also has a same effect but I'm not sure if I can I can I'm not sure if I can use this Wow I can use this as the reverse because no yeah I can test anything I can test this one so what I'll do now is terminal number one at line one then go out of the normal number five go into terminal number nine then terminal number eight will be our line - okay I think I'll get back to you you'll see you in part two in testing because I I'm in the limit of ten minutes right now I'll get back to you after a minute
