doing a little towing with the dually swab 3500 quick note the gross vehicle weight rating of this truck is going to remain the same if you would have this truck factory as a dually 3500 rather than a single wheel 3500 the difference would have been about 1600 pounds worth on the sticker so i got 9 900 pound truck rating and a dually would have been 11.5 not a big difference i'm not going to change anything i'm not going to try to change something but we're going to be hauling the track chipper today find one of these gears in this corner here mp5600 this is a brand new trans and it shifts and not the greatest but i'll tell you what this truck's actually towing this trailer pretty nice i got the diamond back there felt like i should bring this trailer well i don't know maybe it helps with the views or something but i didn't buy a diamond c to try getting the views i bought diamond c so i could showcase what i thought was the best trailer brand out there and i wanted to feature that trailer a lot more often to show you guys better options of trailers i didn't i feel like it's a fad right now for buying diamond c which is good for business for them but it's not why i bought them i bought them because i wanted something good not i wanted better views so we're gonna haul the track chipper it's thanksgiving morning right now got up kind of bright and early no traffic out it's not because it's early oh okay i got the turn so why do we swap this truck is because well i honestly i prefer dooley over anything any day of the week even as a daily because the chance oh god green chance that i might be towing something that requires a dually any day of the week short notice pretty high chance so this struck not being a dually i didn't really care to take it too often because well might needed a dually so dually swapping it big upgrade gives a bigger footprint on the back end so when you're towing some of these bigger trailers i personally think a dually feels a lot more stable and i think that's just a fact so that's why i duly swapped it history on the truck it's got 337 000 miles on it i am the second owner it's got an nv 5600 and uh south bend dual disc would not recommend that clutch to anybody it's terrible but i do have smarty senior on it the 120 horse tune fast 150 fuel pump back brake exhaust spring i got a couple other little add-ons here and there but for the most part she's kind of a stock truck stock turbo and it it takes off the line quite a bit better than my other truck just got a little bit more get up and go at the hole but pulling big hills doesn't have the cubes to pull it it's still fun i'm enjoying towing this trailer with it it's not bad well the old girl i mean he's doing great drop this tail here talk about the hardware a little bit so you guys know the diamond sea trailer but back in there i got uh just the i guess the fifth wheel rails and then i got the gooseneck ball adapter plate that plate's only rated for 26 000. so i mean that's all that we're really going to be hauling i've towed 26 000 ish with this truck before uh today let's see here we'll do the math the trailer aways touch under 8 000. truckways right about that so 16 000 pounds between the two of those and the chipper weighs 14 so total will be hitting around 30 000 not too bad of a load i've done more at this truck when it's a single wheel if you care to add stuff up you take 26 plus the 10. we got 36 worth of stuff 36 000 pounds worth of sticker we're good we're not even close to that this chipper's decent size for uh chippers but well probably not but it's a good size chipper get the old girl fired up i'd say it was 35 this morning kind of cold [Music] gotta engage the drum that's the throw up bearing just bounces back and forth on there they say it wears it out so i just engage it whenever i keep running for extended time check this out though fellas we got ourselves a nice premium view just knocked this thing out last week look at this view possible i'm scared of them trees been a minute since he did some climbing knocked it out gonna be a house right there real nice all right let's get back to getting out of here someone might be wondering where driver's seat on this thing is and who's driving it i'm driving it now ran it just by a little bit trying not to you know i don't need rodney hold it'll get here it'll get here look at that looks good another thing i noticed i don't need the tow mirrors up to see over those mega cab flares by having those mega cap flares on it see right over them see the trailer just perfect it's nice [Music] come here close my eyes [Music] the beauty [Music] hard part then kind of neat that you just stand there that's remote control the tails remote control how much more spoiled could a person get you know what i mean it'd be something if we had some automatic binders [Music] [Applause] going nowhere secured four corners you're supposed to you guys tell me some weird stuff sometimes about how to tie stuff down it's got four points you need all four of them it's got an accessory on it i supposed to have a strap on it sometimes i cheat that one not on the excavator now we gotta find out how this thing behaves going down this steep little hill but first there's a tree over here i've claimed mine several times do so one more round and then we'll hit the road yeah the old old four does doulish oh we got a putty dog here hard work out there makes a guy thirsty what are we running today propel familiar this flavor for a while it's not [Music] bad now's a fun time down the hill let's check give those a little bit they're not super heavy but trailer brakes will make or break a pickup setup especially if it's just a 3500 have been in situations where i lost trailer brakes with that old trailer actually numerous times why i don't like that old trailer very much but 5500 will remain composed a lot better than one of these the brake pads are about half the size on a third gen 3500 versus a 5500 we'll just keep her in first here shoot you down the hill nice and easy tow mirrors down be careful though ready on whatever breaks you can get a hold of see the engine brake only holds back the rear axles unless i click here in the four-wheel you get a weird spot gravel hills you don't want to run engine brake at slow speeds or anything like that if you hit the brake then your back tires will try to slow you down and that's just basically like putting the parking brake on if you're trying to drift it'll whip you around and your trailer will meet up with your door you don't want that you have on board air with the exhaust brake equipped with air bags and a switch shall i decide to juicer up a little bit we need more trailer brakes that's all there is to it i don't like this prodigy controller too much it's kind of hit or miss i don't know what the deal is it works fine but i just i prefer something else so so [Music] [Music] crowd on the road now now fellow is asking me why i would rather have four tens or lower of a gear ratio rather than 373s for optimum fuel mileage i'll be straight up honest with you guys i have pretty much every freaking gear ratio truck there is and they all get about the same they all get like 15 because i'm not just driving around they're all they're all towing pretty often every one of them toes but 373s for taking off in this areas that i run now if you're running strictly hotshot highway stuff all the time i mean look at this area i'm driving in here it's not bad it's just a little back road i don't know maybe old highways i don't know what it is i mean there's old cars driving on it so it's an old road there's like a new porsche behind me it's cool but if you're running highway all the time you take off from the gas station that's level ground you back up to a loading dock it's all flat ground collar gear ratio that wouldn't matter probably be better for you for that application but for this i do a lot i'm starting stopping backing up into nasty spots hardly ever is at a level spot that i'm parked on backing up into gotta have good low gear ratio you sacrifice your highway speed that's fine that way you're not burning on your clutch hurting your trans with your automatic getting it hot if you're uh rolling the dice either way on that but lower gear ratio for towing for what i'm doing is what i'm after i don't know about this brake controller i haven't liked it since i got it and uh it's got like an inertia thing in it so when the truck slows down it amplifies the brakes nearest i can tell if you tip it it gives you more brakes so i tighten the screw it's breaking just fine i really care for it too much but this thing is towing great got about 60 psi in the bags something like that 50 50 i can't see five nine definitely has got a little bit of get up and go but as far as holding power going up a hill not as much as a six seven it's just math thankful that i have installed this exhaust brake on here i don't i wouldn't recommend towing without an exhaust brake anything more than like 10 15 000 pounds it's nice to have an exhaust it's nice to have an exhaust break when you're empty i don't know you guys don't have exhaust brakes towing anything talking to you ford guys probably duramax too i don't know how that goes see how she does oh holy crap come on [Music] once it gets up rolling breaks playing you know then she starts to get up and go taking off i'll burn through that piece of garbage south bend pretty quick if i was doing stuff like that all the time now running through corners and stuff like this this is where i gonna be testing to see how much that bigger footprint having them duels back there truck doesn't seem to want to lay over near as much having them duels back there obviously higher psi tire higher rating and there's two of them back there it should hold its own a little bit better and it is it feels quite a bit quite a bit better open better drop i'll go come on let her eat that's where you get into trouble if you uh not paying attention back breaks holding this back pretty good third gear is a sweet spot yeah got a little hill action listen to reed third gear come on get on top of the turbo do i have a slightly bigger turbo on the 08 and it likes slightly more rpm to really light that sucker kind of regret some of the stuff i did to that truck kind of chasing a rabbit hole [Music] i had to do it over again i would have just done a compound over a stock turbo and let her eat that way get that good off the line instant power and uh you got something for pulling big hills that probably helps a lot with that truck maintaining speed up hills a turbo just works this one sitting about 22 psi egts 700 750 that's post turbo so you can read that about 950. still relatively calm 2500 rpm just letting her sink that's it another gear towed this thing the other day before i did the dually swap and it had about 12 000 pounds of gravel in the dump trailer it weighs about 5 000. let's just say we had 17 000 pounds back there which is a little less than is a little bit more than the chipperways and i was letting her eat i think my thermostat was crap so i got a little warm didn't seem to want to cool off put a new one in there and it's doing good it hasn't gone warm at all [Music] all right you ever just lock eyes with somebody as they're making a corner like i got nothing else to look at i'm waiting for you to move it's got power no doubt about it but long legs long legs this is where you get tested right here make sure them trailer brakes are working because this truck ain't got enough balls in the brake department on its own little crap yeah i'm gonna ditch this brake controller it is trash i'm in the corner though people in other places i've been going up this same 45 slope for the last 18 miles i haven't dropped a gear yet that's towing oh what the heck we made it to the top that's weird i thought we never ended on going up hills [Music] our hills level out apparently all around here nobody else has hills did stop being hills they just they're always going up you call that a hill that's grass what do you guys call it [Music] old girl did it first official toe as a dually swap yeah significant improvement i'm very happy with how this thing performs being a dually versus a single wheel hold its composure quite a bit better guys still wondering i am running the wheel spacers on the front yes there is a factory four inch block on every dually truck to match up the dewy wheels not gonna put anything different on the front no super singles or nothing like that because i like stuff to match the super single look is a little too playboy for already what i playboid this truck up but then i do have the two inch spacer on the edge of that i have nailed it down to ones i'm going to order that are hub-centric they're made out of steel they're super heavy-duty way more expensive but even looking on a 5500 i don't know if you guys can see in there but even a 5500 somebody's saying oh you're wide track you don't have to run spacers what's that right there there's a four inch spacer on it it's a wide track front end it's wider but it's still running the four inch spacer but all said and done i'm happy with how this turned out i think honestly as with the 195s and stuff and the dually swap i think i'm into it five maybe six thousand bucks and that's quite a bit for a truck that i'm not going to use on a regular basis it's just a truck i've had for the longest time and it's given a new purpose on life because i wasn't really using it too much don't have any intent of trying to sell it anymore thought about getting rid of it so i could have bought that other dually that low mile one but that guy just wants way too much money for that truck i'd rather buy just a four chant and any issues that i complained about on this they hold its composure in the corner way better lack power lack of breaks any of that stuff you know how you fix any of that stuff you buy yourself a fourth gen that's it third gen they are awesome as hell with five nine but they just they don't quite compete but this i'm pretty dang happy with it all said and done she's got a new police on life and she looked damn good i'll tell you that much boys that truck looks tits yeah boy comment below
