Unboxing the 50 mica powders, which also come with a tiny little metal scoop These are supplied in regular zip lock backs, which can start to get a bit messy when you open them This is a very comprehensive range of colours, including 5 'magic' interference colours DecorRom declares that their all mica powder is sourced from legally operated mines in China Unboxing the 18 liquid pigments All colours are fully transparent except white, which is opaque Unboxing the 10 glow powders, which come with a pocket LED UV torch that requires 3 x AAA batteries The torch is effective enough to make the powders glow Oooooh! Sooooooo, let's make a unique mould to test these pigments :) I'm pulling the head off a Dunny keychain, and will give it a coat of UV resin for a glossy shine Head on a pike XD Well with that crazy music in the background, you know this isn't a chapter to be taken seriously! Make a mould of it, the process for that is coming up next I'm using polyurethane resin to make some quick casts I used the casts to make a 9-up mould, and then used that to make more casts for a 24-up mould I've been teaching my Alexa to tell jokes, like this one... What do you get if you pour boiling water down a rabbit hole? Hot cross bunnies XD Seriously - don't ever do that. We only torture bubbles on this channel! This looks like a scene from a horror movie :/ Mix slowly to a uniform colour I have put links in the description to the products used in this video Drizzle the moulding silicone from a height to help pop any bubbles Allow that to cure for 24 hours Back with the pigment testing, for the Mica Powder, I'm adding a measured drop of powder to 6.5g of epoxy resin that I have already mixed This is my usual art resin, which has a 2A:1B mix ratio by weight The powder mixes easily and smoothly, with no evidence of clumping Now I just have to do this another 48 times :/ Be sure to kill any bubbles with a flame. Don't worry, they only suffer for a second. If you listen carefully you might be able to hear them as they die. Bubbles be gone! For the liquid pigments I'm preparing 17g of pre-mixed epoxy resin for each colour I will add 1 drop of resin to each pot, then pour a sample The pigment mixes nicely with the resin to a uniform colour After the first pour, I add another drop of pigment to the remaining resin to increase the colour intensity Nice close-up of my fingernails And after the second pour another drop of pigment to increase the intensity again This will produce 3 samples for each pigment - 54 in total! The bubbles must die! To test the glow powder I'm adding a quarter teaspoon of powder to 6.5g of pre-mixed epoxy resin The instructions do say to add the resin to the powder and not the other way around, so I'll do that The brightness of the glow is in direct proportion to the amount of powder added, although the instructions advise a maximum of 40% My test pieces are therefore about the maximum level Due to the density of the powder, much of it will sink in the resin You cannot grind the powder to make it finer, as it will destroy the crystal structure Only 10 pots to mix this time :) Get them bubbles! To make my colour sampler I designed and printed a back board using my Cricut Explore Air 2 I glued the pieces to the back board using 5-minute crystal clear epoxy adhesive Overall I'm extremely pleased with the performance of these DecorRom pigments and am happy to give them a resinAce recommended rating :D Links in the description :) [Alexa] What's the difference between a healthy rabbit and an odd rabbit? [Alexa] One is a fit bunny and the other is a bit funny
