all right everybody I am in Paris no not Paris France or Paris Texas I am in Paris Tennessee I was reading that there are 15 towns named Paris in the United States this will be the second one that I've been to I'm think think I'm going to make it a goal to visit all 15 what do you guys think but anyway today is about Paris Tennessee now it's Black Friday day after Thanksgiving so you can see they have a Santa Claus climbing the side of the tower here this is a they say an exact replica just much smaller it's pretty awesome though isn't it City of Paris welcome to downtown Paris Tennessee can you hear that Christmas music they in the spirit here beautiful downtown I am standing in the shadow of the County Courthouse let's see if I can give you a shot of it through the trees here it's a beautiful building Paris is the county seat of Henry County named after Patrick Henry you guys ever heard or do you remember the phrase Give me liberty or give me death Patrick Henry he's the patriot who uttered that phrase in Richmond Virginia at the St John's Church I've been to that church by the way in Richmond in my travels I have visited many many churches you guys know that that is still my favorite Church to this day that I have ever visited when Patrick Henry gave that speech there were many of our country's fathers there including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson they in the church as they listen to Patrick Henry give that speech imploring them to declare independence from England that church was so so amazing to be inside you could feel I'm telling you you could literally feel the ghosts in that church if you go to my Richmond Virginia video at the very beginning that's what I do I go into that church about this County Courthouse built in 1896 it is Richard sonian Romanesque architecture that's my favorite it's got some Hues from Medieval Era Europe but Richard sonian architecture in particular he designed his buildings to look like castles so I want to wander around here a little bit and I'll tell you some more about Paris there's a statue here next to the courthouse was trying to find some Engravings on it his face is to the shade away from the Sun you see that a lot anyway let's see this etching says no country ever had trer Sons no cause nobler Champions no people Boulder Defenders 1861 1865 and on the back here there's description of what it is here we go Henry County Confederate [Music] soldiers now there you go well here's a wide shot of the downtown with the courthouse the centerpiece of course now there's a little over 10,000 people here it's been that population for about 30 years just kind of hanging around 10,000 median AG is 40 56% of the town is female uh 44% is male this town is 73% white 21% black 3% Hispanic and 3% mixed median household income here is 36,000 a year that's $692 a week let compare it to the rest of the US the US as a whole the median household income is 74,700 so incomes here are about half than what they are in the United States but cost of living is pretty low I looked at the index it's 20% lower than the rest of the US the cost of living that is mostly because of housing housing is 48% lower so we'll go check out some neighborhoods I'll tell you more about that I was looking at the poverty numbers for the town a bit surprised pretty high uh overall it's 27% for children 17 and under it is 40% uh that is quite High we do know cost of living is lower not sure if it's low enough though 65 and older it's 12% that's actually right at what it is with the US so for retirees it's not too bad and I looked at the crime numbers they're a tad High here uh overall crime 30 incidents per 1,000 people for the us as a whole it's 23 let's see I am about a block out of downtown so we'll check out some neighborhoods here close by uh they're actually real pretty the median home value for this town is a little over 105,000 so that's pretty low for the US it's 321,000 so houses here at least the median is about a third of that in the US but these houses near downtown these are beautiful aren't they yeah absolutely gorgeous I am on the other side of downtown now more the same beautiful big yards stunning isn't it really beautiful town okay so yeah I think I've shown you enough [Music] here I'm going to head to the next town now after I show you these last couple houses yeah all right on to the next town [Music] welcome to 38201 McKenzie Tennessee proud home of bethl University established 1869 it's a public school there go Rebels this is the best kind of mural in a town isn't it tells the story Mr GW McKenzie station master I think that's who the town is named after what kind of beautiful quain downtown do you think they have here well let's turn the corner and take a look it's looking pretty nice isn't it I [Applause] am on a theater right now A that awesome I think it may still be an operation let's see there's some guy back here oh it's just the cardboard okay looks like uh this operates though doesn't it you love to see that let's see the Park Theater originally a blacksmith shop from 1882 to 1906 wow okay that's the site this building was constructed in 1920 and used as a car dealership till 1928 and then converted to a theater well let's see it was a grocery store in 34 to39 and then in 1941 it became this theater first movie affectionately yours shown on July 3 1941 there you go today Park Theater is multi-purpose features most recent movies community meeting venue amongst other things well now that's pretty awesome isn't it well I'm going to wander over here take a look at some stuff Christmas is in full swing in McKenzie Tennessee lovely old downtown isn't it there's the theater I was just at awesome little Park they have here in downtown with a gazebo really nice let me tell you about the town median ages 38 gender breakdown 50/50 that's about the same as the US 79% of this town is white 15% is black 3% is Hispanic 1% Asian the remaining 2% nexted race median household income 44,400 a year that's 854 a week it's not too bad poverty is 18% overall children 17 and under it is 24% folks 65 and older it is only 6% that's very low but cost of living is pretty good according to the index cost of living here is 19% lower than the rest of the US mostly because of housing housing is 45% lower than the rest of the country and we'll check out some houses here in a bit look at this Bank of M Kenzie built in 1919 that's an awesome storefront isn't it and this building kind of dominates the downtown here wrinkle hardware furniture bethl University in purple below though H let's see uh crime let's talk about that it's pretty low last year 22 incidents for 1,000 people for the us at is 23 so it's a little bit lower let me swing around and give you a little look here I don't think I told you population yet there 5,500 people here and uh that is Peak population let's see it looks like they have they do have beautiful old train depot that has been renovated let's go take a closer look I'm walking along the tracks trying to imagine what it must have been like in the late 1800s to arrive by train stop here [Music] in McKenzie [Music] Tennessee what a different world it was then it been great to see it huh well I'm checking out this Caboose I tried to get in over there they've got it closed off I'm wondering if I can look inside let's see well it looks like an office of some sort I guess you can see that yeah you can see that kind of now let's see what's on the other side here this is a park a place for the kids JT's Grill I'm thinking JT is not open anymore there is another Institute of Higher Learning here by the way the Tennessee College of Applied technology I was thinking I should give them a shout out as I walk back into downtown it's pretty nice well I'm thinking it's time to go see some neighborhoods that's an old one way sign old and rusted oh check this out this must be the place it must be median home value here is uh 117,000 yeah like the last towns just uh real pretty [Music] streets [Music] yeah it's a nice Town another nice Tennessee town all right here is bethl University it's pretty isn't it that's a nice house well okay cool uh let's head to the next [Music] town everyone I am in Martin Tennessee There's a small part of the downtown which seems to be separated by this rail line the bigger part of downtown is over here so let's go take a look at it there's about 10,500 people here that's Peak population so the town is growing median age is 25 now that's pretty young most likely because of the University here the University of Tennessee at Martin is here I believe that is a satellite campus for the University of Tennessee out of Knoxville you just love it when the city takes care of its down town beautiful storefronts anyway uh let's see gender breakdowns [Applause] 50/50 not much going on there 76% of this town is white 16% is black 3% is Hispanic 2% Asian 1% Native American 2% mixed so there a little bit of everything here uh let's see poverty 29% overall 17 and under children it's 36% people 65 and older it is 14% I looked at the cost of living index cost of living here is 16% lower than the US on average again mostly because of housing like any other towns housing will cost you 35% less here than the rest of the US crime is a little high 27 incidents per 1,000 people the US of course is 23 I had to show you guys this house right out of downtown that is absolutely beautiful you just can't help but be impressed with [Music] Tennessee you know I come to these towns I try to find nice houses but I try to find the old beat up ones too the really rough neighborhood I'm just not finding them here in these Tennessee towns even with the low incomes seeing nothing but beautiful neighborhoods and homes a median home value for this town is 100 36,000 so a little bit higher here than the other two but still considerably lower than the US which is 322,000 it's a third [Music] less they are doing something right here in Tennessee and I've been all over Tennessee it's it's just really beautiful everywhere [Music] well I uh thinking it's time to head to the last Town one more Town yeah so let's go there right [Music] now all right everyone I am in Union City Tennessee I'm over here to show you this Union City is the county seat for obon County this is the county courthouse built in 1939 it is what they call pwa modern architecture uh pwa stands for Public Works Administration that was part of Roosevelt's New Deal the building you can see some art deco in it but uh utilizes straight lines uh the idea to to have a big edifice in the front if you will it's designed to radiate Authority that is what's or what is is the idea behind this typee of architecture here's another look at the County Courthouse as I walk out onto the Main Street which is over here see a police car this is the fourth police car I've seen in this town I'll touch upon that here shortly there are 11,000 people here here's the main Street of downtown median ages 38 that's about the same as the US 54% female 46% male 65% of this town is white 24% is black let me get you a lookout here 7% is Hispanic and 4% is mixed race I don't know if you can hear that Christmas music yeah can you hear it pretty nice all right the median household income is 36,000 a year even a little under 700 a week wow that's a beauty nice anyway back at the task at hand uh so poverty is a little high overall 25% children 17 and under is 31% folks 65 and older it's 18% it's a great old building here not sure what it is now learning house it says it's not a bad downtown there's not really much in the way of empty storefronts there are businesses here everywhere anyway uh so about the poverty uh cost of living is pretty low 20% lower than the us as a whole mostly because of housing costs which are 48% lower than the rest of the US the number that really sticks out here is crime uh last year 49 incidents per 10,000 people us average is 23 so crime here is over twice higher than the US and you can see it driving in I saw what three police cruisers roaming around the neighborhood including one here in downtown that's not counting the one we just saw it's the first time I've seen police presence in any of these towns I did want to show you this theater old Capital Theater it's called masquerade Theater now built in 1927 it is on the national register this is a Confederate Monument it is here for Confederate soldiers who or whose bodies were not identified unknown Confederate dead yeah it's built in 1869 it is on a national register I thought I had better show it to you you can draw your own conclusions of course how about that and um there are some Graves here I guess that's the bodies unknown Confederate dead wow okay there there it is uh the median home value in this town is 109,000 seeing a little bit different story here in terms of housing I'm actually on the other side of downtown yeah this is beautiful neighborhood here really nice huh he look at this [Music] one that is a beauty wow yeah even more all right everyone so that will be the end of this video up next we are heading into Kentucky so be looking for that and I will see you [Music] there
