hey co-stars and welcome to another generation films video about Star Trek and today we are continuing our 10 floors of alien races species with 10 floors of the Borg collective now the book collective did have some significant advantages like they're really good at reeling off information that people already know Starfleet Federation Starfleet intrepid class 143 life-forms but they also have considerable flaws and some things that just make you go what like did a baby design their starship because they only build them in the simplest of shapes for example a cube a sphere I think they stole that line from Star Wars or a triangle oh no that one belongs to the US Navy but anyway that was just a little taste for your entertainment now let's get into some of the real flaws of the Borg collective number one they move too damn slow now the Borg have a thing where they won't attack you until they consider you a threat this in itself is a flaw since what have you been doing something that they didn't anticipate they basically let you get away with it until they discover that you are in fact a threat then they send some drones after you who normally walk towards you slowly and just stand there and get killed even when they do decide to attack you they do it at a leisurely pace giving Starfleet personnel some non taxing target practice taking casualties now I know your inner Simpsons comic book store guy is gonna say that they do this so that they can take some weapons fire and adapt to form a shield but even after they have adapted they still keep coming at the same slow pace and even once they get close and in two hand hand combat they still suck let's compare that with other cybernetic life-forms the t1000 for example look at it go all Robocop look how fast he is the Borg say that they combine organic life-forms with technology to achieve perfection this doesn't look like for fection to me more like suicide number two their vision sucks they're moving slow may have something to do with their vision it sucks for your reference this is what a t300 sees very clear analysis of what is going on combined with real-time mission information this is what Robocop sees player targeting scanners with infrared mode to precisely detect targets by human body heat now compare that with what a Borg drone sees distorted with no analysis or targeting aids probably why they keep getting killed now you could argue that this is just down to the production of the show and I would agree perhaps the producers just didn't think of it and it's a shame I think there's a missed opportunity there they could have taken more inspiration from the Terminator movies number three they are too confident now the Borg have every right to be confident they are a terrifying cybernetic species that will give even the most hardened horror movie fan nightmares they rarely meet their match in the galaxy but they don't know when to stop in the year twenty three seventy three the board open a rift in normal space and travel into something called fluidic space kind of like another dimension or something where they encounter an alien race that they name species 8472 how they come up with these creative names species 8472 were a formidable Bunch they could move in zero gravity and didn't need an atmosphere to survive and they had as many as five sexes liberals would have loved them so there are 15 different groups in this in this acronym did anyone hold them and ask do you want to be included too the asexuals want to be with the Allies and the pansexuals and the polyamorous actually maybe five isn't enough anyway the Borg provoked species 8472 and species 8472 counter-attacks the ensuring conflict lasts five months the Borg are no match for them species 8472 are immune to Borg assimilation and they fly around in bioships that's right their ships are made of biological technology the Borg lose billions of drones and hundreds of planets and ships in the war and they end up having to resort to asking humans for help more on that later number four captured drones are a liability the Borg have a hive mind so everyone knows everyone and they all share their pooled knowledge kind of like a creepy remote village where everyone knows everyone and they're all married to their cousins anyway captured drones give enemies a chance to hack into the hive mind when the Enterprise crew rescue Picard who's been half assimilated by the Borg data is able to connect with the Picard drone and plant a command in the hive mind it is clear the border either unwilling or unable to terminate their subspace links that may be their Achilles heel captain he instructs the Borg cube is attacking the enterprise to enter its regeneration cycle basically to go to sleep if a drone is rescued from the Borg collective and its implants are slowly removed the person can revert back to their original state but they will still take a lot of the Borg's knowledge with them after Picard was rescued from his brief ordeal aslak cutis of Borg he still maintained certain strands of memories and even a weak link with the hive mind he knows when the board were going to attack earth long-range centers of pictures I know the Borg and he is able to use his knowledge to command the fleet to open fire on a certain weak spot on the board cube that leads to its destruction when seven of nine was rescued from the Borg collective she kept all of the Borg's knowledge up to the point that she left and was even able to extract Borg nanoprobes from her body which voyagers crew were then able to use to develop a weapon against species 8472 they also upgraded variety of Voyager systems with Borg tech from seven of nine number five shield weaknesses despite their super advanced nanoprobes and adaptability the Borg seemed to miss out on simple things like just having a decent shield for your ship the USS Voyager was able to take advantage of a gap in shielding on a Borg ship to beam a photon torpedo aboard the ship and destroy it regenerate primary shield matrix security breach now perhaps this weakness was needed for the plot to some degree but hey it appeared on screen so it's canon number six tech flaws Borg tech wasn't perfect and there was one glitch in their system that caused serious disruption Unimatrix zero now this is a big topic so I'm going to try and condense it down for you basically a genetic mutation in a single drone when it interfaced with Borg Tech after assimilation created a computer-generated environment in which drones could interact as individuals while they were regenerating it was only drones that had this genetic mutation that could enter you know matrix zero and they would not remember anything after they had finished regenerating however about 12,000 of them entered the environment and the Borg remained unaware of this computer glitch for many years after seven of nine was rescued from the collective it emerged that she had been able to enter unum Atrix zero two and she still could but now she could actually remember events in you know matrix zero after waking up seven and Captain Janeway encouraged the drones in unum Atrix zero to launch a resistance movement against the Borg and they released a nanovirus into the Borg system the Borg resisted and to cut a long story short you know matrix zero was destroyed in several ships and all their drones were severed from a collective and survived these former drones vowed to keep on fighting the Borg number seven susceptible to pathogens since the Borg were partly organic they were susceptible to viruses and bacteria like any other organic species in the last episode of Voyager endgame the future Captain Janeway manages to infect the world queen with a pathogen that disrupts the collective this gives Bulger enough time to destroy the transwarp hub that serves as the Borges transportation system and that brings us to our next weakness number eight reliance on transwarp conduits the Borg had a network of transwarp conduits spread throughout the galaxy kind of like a subway system but in space these transwarp conduits allowed them to travel at speeds faster than traditional warp drive and they could cross the galaxy very quickly I wonder what they were powered by tardigrades don't be ridiculous anyway even though the transwarp conduits gave significant advantages like incredibly fast speed they also had weaknesses first of all before a ship even reached its destination a transwarp aperture and what is open warning whoever was on the other side of an impending attack a transwarp aperture it's less than I might beer from Earth I want every ship and range to converge on those coordinates now in addition the transwarp conduit network was controlled from a central hub without it individual ships could not travel at such speeds leaving them stranded and destroying the hub is exactly what Janeway and her crew do in the last episode of Voyager number 9 flawed battle tactics now this is one example that probably some hardcore trekker could tell you there's a reason for but it always stood out to me as a poor battle tactic in the movie first contact the Borg travel all the way to earth facing an onslaught by Federation vessels before launching a Borg sphere to travel back in time and stop Earth's first contact with the Vulcans in the past and that's done humanity's technological growth to make them easier to assimilate but since they come in guns blazing and only do the time-travel bit when they are right at Earth orbit they alert everyone to their plan why didn't they just do the time-travel part somewhere discreet and then travel to earth at warp speed in the past when earth had no starships that could fight them off so simple now finally number 10 they always underestimate humans Borg consider the human species very unique and put great emphasis on assimilating them but they always underestimate human battle tactics or just human nature the Borg should be like one of those computer chess games that I can never beat always two or three moves ahead since they have a technological element they should be able to think much faster than humans but they seem so eager to assimilate the human race that it seems to cloud their programming let's give a couple of examples in the last episode of Voyager endgame which we have already mentioned the Borg Queen personally assimilates Janeway without even can sitting why Janeway is here is it a trap in fact Janeway has a virus in her body that will infect the ball collective once she is assimilated Janeway even got herself assimilated by the Borg on purpose in the past in order to pull some dirty tricks on them so they literally fell for the same thing twice and in first contact after tempting data by grafting organic skin onto his skeleton to make him feel more human the Borg Queen thinks she has him under her thumb but she underestimates human loyalty yeah I know data is an Android but he is programmed to think exactly like humans and at this point he does have the emotion chip installed and running smoothly when she orders data to fire quantum torpedoes of Phoenix Earth's first warp-capable vessel he fires but misses on purpose and then proceeds to kill the borg queen with the help of picard resistance this is one of those classic Star Trek moments that makes you ponder the human condition anyway guys that is 10 floors of the Borg collective if you can think of anymore please write them in comments below and one more thing American Ben and myself acted in a short movie that was released yesterday the movie is about a fictional scenario in which the government bans yoga sounds random but there's a lot more to it than that and you have to watch all the way to the end to find out what it's really about anyway if you'd like to see the short film and I recommend that you do I'll put a link on the screen probably here or here and I'll also put a link in the description below so that you guys can check it out as always thank you so much for watching please subscribe if you're new I see you next time bye bye
