from hawaii it's a 1996 us open nine ball champion he's a two-time reno open champion he's the defending turning stone nine ball champion and he is also the defending fat boy ten ball champion sponsored by poison cues and capone's it's the rocket rodney morris [Applause] good luck gentlemen please lag for the break we're going to send it up to the booth to hall of famer danny d liberto and his special guest mark wilson welcome aboard pool players and fans it's 10 ball time from the derby city classic a premier match lays ahead between randy the rocket morris and alex paguilion the rocket plays fast and loose and alex uses more precision with his game i'm mark wilson and here with expert insights is hall of famer danny de leberto this match is simply too close to call danny but what should we expect to see well first i want to talk about the lag you know rodney was waving the his ball to the rail and he sucked it right to the rim froze it but anyway it is a toss-up it would be tough to pick the winner here little contrasting styles little contrasting personalities but it's going to be very exciting interesting match two very relaxed and animated players rodney with a big power stroke i like using a much shorter stroke in general although he does use a long bridge tons of experience here these are these are veteran uh hardcore top flight world-class pool players and that's all you get in the fat boy 10 ball challenge yeah they they make sure that that's all that's in there there's not going to be any duffers a race to 15 that's a championship length match and you have to be a good player to make that interesting made the nine ball he might have a cut on the one good job controlling the cue ball centered it up well rodney morris known for his break i mean he could hit the one can he oh he will definitely cut it to one yeah if he can see it he tries it and where the two is sitting he should get rewarded hit the six that held them for the two tied up the eyeball a little bit four ball mm-hmm yeah it's hard to see the colors from here yeah yeah it really is it's frustrating too i don't like calling the wrong bob we've never been a big fan of the tv balls and now with high definition i think we could go back to the standard traditional balls i agree with you i agree with you but the people in charge don't agree rodney faced with a four six combination he can play position for it or he can try to break it out yeah that's the bad part about it you do that kind of stuff when it's automatic position that was not automatic position but he got it came out great and that's kind of his style too he he sometimes will bang him around rearrange the furniture and oftentimes create something from nothing doing so well he did that time could have been disaster but it turned out good but when you're playing well over the years i've seen that they roll well if you're dogging it you're never going to get a roll i was watching him warm up earlier playing nine foot long thin cut shots and he was just whistling them into the pocket without so much of scuffing the rail and that's a good sign this would be a break and run out in the opening rack yeah it looks that looks like it's definitely a break and run great shot there rodney captures the first game one game to nothing rodney morris of course it's a long race to 15 so it's long enough to create the best player winning you know a race to three really two good players anybody can win this is a good test race to 15. 100 percent the rocket really blasted off here came out of the gate winning the lag breaking and running the first rack setting a blistering pace so far takes a moment to collect himself aims the break just one or two practice swings is all power power power but all he made that time was noise cue ball was kissed back behind the brown seven appears that alex peggy line is blocked from the one yeah of course i'm i'm a believer in whoever pushes with good players is getting the worst of it he might have to push well and that's uh opinion that's uh it's not really the opinion you've proven that over many many years yeah observing this playing this yeah where are you going to push with good players you know where they don't you got to have some kind of trick but then you can only get away with it once that's right i don't see any tricks here well we've talked about it many times and you just have to push out to some type of a low percentage shot oftentimes it's a kick once in a while you can push out to tie up other balls that's what you're supposed to do anyway when you push if you can push and tie up balls that's the move you know you were weaned on two shot followers so you're going to be very adept at playing that look at this this is a great shot here i think he's gonna kick two cushions at the one yeah you gotta hit it try to cut it into the corner he hit it he did try to cut it into the corner he's got separation well rodney could hit it but i don't think he can make it and for where alex started from that was a great result yep well back to two-shot shootout what happened there is it favored people like eddie taylor strongly because he would push to a tough bank that you couldn't shoot and you couldn't let him shoot so you already started a little confused and pressured so they changed it from johnson city many years ago so it went faster for tv that was the whole purpose of erasing two-shot yeah the the two-shot ball in hand turned out to be such a defensive game there is that both players were skilled at it and it was slow this particular case has been a couple exchanges of kick safeties here rodney morris has won the battle picks up the first shot thing about this is he's got a long shot to start with might have a long shot on the two but he'll get rewarded there's nothing to do with the two but make it long shots are rodney's specialty he's a shot maker and a power breaker not known for his position play and not known for his defensive play he relies on his two strengths yeah that wasn't real good well the two is froze which makes it a little easier shot and the three is in a good spot and this is typical of rodney and this is how he plays fast and loose he lets the cue ball go kind of where it wants to and he just shoots him in rodney is not known for missing balls pockets balls from all angles on the table the protege a little weak here very typical of his game he's the protege in understudy of brian hashimoto hawaiian brian yeah he was a great player brian he he got some kind of heart attack and retired from the game but a real tough guy to beat and a good person a real good person i agree brian was he was a lot of fun i had really had some good times with him great player great competitor and then the same cheerful disposition that rodney morris displays this is a typical rodney morris run out pure shot making well he played pretty good position there a lot of people might not know that shot would reverse they tried to go three rails and hit something there's no problems this rack either tremendous talent on display here so far alex had a kick that's all he had i know people would think that we're terribly biased but these legitimately the tiger woods and the phil mickelsons of the sport right here we're not biased at all there's nobody would argue with us you know not even a sucker is going to argue with you perfect angle not much to report there perfect position play and as rodney morris pockets the ten ball here he takes a two game to nothing lead uh [Music] 10 ball is a different game folks i know it's only one more ball but it makes more cree you know more congestion and tougher to break them i'd be a lot of good nine ball players that in 10 ball i couldn't beat a nine ball much more strategic i think that extra ball probably makes it about 15 percent more difficult a lot harder to make balls on the break right and the racking is not an issue like it is in nine ball rodney mars hit miss hit the head ball a little bit got great results though where are you one he's saying and there you are just set right on up 10 ball went in the corner pocket on the break that does not count as a win in this format danny yeah i like that of course we want to see the games played out i've been trying to change that for years and no one wanted to do that but i said at least do it when someone's on the hill don't let them win with one swing right you know it's not pool any duffer can make the ten on the nine on the break tin ball much better test for professional players yeah well rodney will inspect the four ball as it passes the seventh into the corner see what kind of an angle he wants to get to transfer to the five rodney is dabbing it yup he's stroking smooth i suspect alex is too we just haven't got to see him come up and perform yet well keep all got away just a little bit there most players play for the other angle on this five ball rodney let it drift on yeah he hit a little but he has so much ability that i don't think this is going to stop him at all he's going to draw the ball no problem whatsoever now i think instead of killing is he going to kill it yeah that's what he did anytime you get a chance to do that without hitting rails hitting rails makes everything a little tougher just determining what he wants to do played in the side no he didn't know if you can get this good i don't gamble on that i make the ball and take the shot in the side he does so much better with a full stroke he usually defers his uh judgment to that that's his default shot as rod breaks and runs out for the second time in three games three to nothing lead rodney morris and all alex can do is wait for an opportunity his only opportunity was a kick and he pushed to that kick and made a great kick and then rodney returned a great kick safety and then on the exchange rodney came up with a long tough one ball that's as much as we've seen from alex pacquiaon but he's a fighter he would never give up yeah you wouldn't be here in the quarter final stages of the fat boy ten ball challenge if you had any quit in you you wouldn't have even been invited to the fat boy 10 ball challenge thousand dollar entry fee if you're invited 16 players single elimination this is truly my favorite event and you can see why i love pool being played at this world class level how much are they adding 10 000 so there's 26 000 in prize fund 3 500 goes to the winner of this match that'll be third and fourth place money well he mishit the head ball yet again just a little bit and he he didn't like anything came up dry and once again alex has a push i mean he's gonna get tired of this he's feeling a little sad right now but that's what always got me about these games like rotation game nine ball ten ball the other guy breaks runs three then when he doesn't make a ball you have no shot you feel like everything's against you when that happens that's right you know what really compounds it is when he shoots in the pocket and misses and then leaves you hooked again it could snowball on you and you can go many innings like that you last night we saw a match where probably 10 or 12 times during the course of the match the guy just had a tough lie tough lie tough lie best he had was a hard shot that they could pocket and all the rest of them were kick shots so well he pushed to hit the edge of the one ball now if rodney could bank cross corner here that might be relatively safe and earn him some position on the two if he makes it didn't have that shot available went for distance alex is gonna get a shot yeah i don't think i would have shot that i would i think i would have had to give it back of course alex is glad he didn't alex doesn't have a real lot to do here opening shot of the match got just a little bit of a funny angle on the one that appears well i think he can draw back i don't know if the two goes in the corner it looks like he's not much that's the eighth i think he needs to draw back enough to get to the other corner pocket or the side if he wants to go i anticipate he'll play it to the corner if he can power up and draw back for the side that'd be even better that's what he did made the three also i've got a chance to win a game here not sure what's going on with the five six balls down there it doesn't appear that the five ball goes cleanly into the corner pocket of course we're so high up in the air here it's tough to tell but i would guess that it goes can we see something from the top does that ball go in can we can we see a top shot we're not gonna there we go yeah we can't tell still can't either i think it goes though i think it goes i think he can go three rails and get on the five we'll be able to tell by his speed yes it does go you know his speed wasn't great though he wouldn't like to have been another two feet closer to this ball yeah but at that at that thinking you could have snookered yourself he wanted to get the shot you know if you shoot too hard you're behind the seven he's all right he's all right yeah this is a great camera view here nope he wanted to hit the six and he did push the six a little bit closer to the pocket open it up alex inspects the seven in the side pocket past the nine making sure that's uh available in routine alex paglia line very youthful in his years but he's a savvy veteran been around for a long time he was playing nearly this speed when he was 18 years old yeah he's a little older than you might think i think he's 32. he's very athletic human too he can jump the length of the table from a standstill it's unbelievable yeah he wins money at it too a little high right english hold that line okay you want an angle on the nine where you don't wind up on the rail and i think he's got just the right angle here no need to draw back i think this is more of a stop shot type of a hit you're right don't gamble him missing cinch the ball that's exactly what he did nothing cute we'd wait all day for him to miss this shot so there's no reason to get any better on it hey nice run out there for alex peggy lyon's first win as he trails in the match one game to three he got on the scoreboard spends a lot of his time in toronto that's where his mother lives she has a house there he gets action there and he gets a lot of play you know they do have a lot of tournaments at the pool room called shooter well anyway i'm gonna say hello to all those people and my friend paul thornley great pool fans in toronto and snooker fans we played a couple tournaments up there they participated in a really fun place great people always enjoyed my time in toronto never did understand the difference between toonies and loonies but oh if i ever get back yeah i don't like that [Laughter] we're talking about uh canadian currency yeah the looney and the toonie are coins a one dollar coin or a two dollar coin isn't it yeah but then with the exchange rate i never really did understand it all exactly well canadian money is worth a little more well maybe not back when i'm talking about it oh yeah it's changed a lot it has that's what i mean okay good look at uh peggy lyon's break good square hit controlled the cue ball nicely made a ball got a shot yeah good deal got a chance you know when you're observing this match it's really interesting to see the places that these guys can get out from often times you look at the arrangement well you think boy this is going to be tough three or four shots later you're thinking how will you not get out now you know so they can make things happen and in a hurry well he's gonna have to put a little bit of left-hand juice on this go to the tube that's what he did got close to the two did not over spin the ball great work there now we get down here we handle the cue ball well from the two ball to the four four ball to the five well he got a little funny here he might have to draw this all the way to the end rail because the seven got in the way with center ball i believe if he goes forward and tries to stun back across between the seven six and five that would entail quite a bit of work the draw stroke seems to be a little easier to get on the five with but even that's somewhat sensitive it is it is but i believe that's the path you got to take if you fall on it the rest there look at them yeah road map either one is doable and both both are missable see center ball pounding it the seven enters and the six also enters so i think he's got to draw it all the way to the end rail well he doesn't think that yeah see i would have played to get straight on this ball i'm sure he's going to be all right but i would have had to draw it all the way to the end rail but you can't be sure he's going to be all right because this is a fairly thin hit the cue ball is gonna at least go two cushions which enters the seven ball into play naturally if he clips that seven that's really gonna make this tough he went over to look and acted as if he's gonna have the cue ball land just south of the seven ball closest to the corner pocket now he's queuing low i suspect not he can just do it with speed good shot yeah at that speed it required to use a little bit of right hand english to maintain the angle come out on top of the six he got good from where he was at this is as good as he could have hoped to get good judgment there using a little bit more pace on there to make sure the balls held their line well he doesn't want to be on the only way you can go wrong now is if he's on the rail and it looks like he might be doing that so i would go past it and leave the angle on the eight to cut and get closer to the nine because i don't think he's getting off the rail very well get it but he did the angle he could have used a little more good call there danny he sure did he got awfully straight here the keyboard trickled the head about two ball widths and i think he really just wanted to stop the cue ball oh you're gonna take the long shot from here or you're gonna try to get closer i think he's too cushioning out to the about where the just past the spot yeah but this ain't real close but that's what the table gave him he didn't want to try to force well the table gave it to him because he played bad position on the eight right you know and that's right you know that's his fault for being here absolutely when the cue ball trickled two ball width ahead that's what this was left so uh this is the best he could do from there once you get out of line everything gets a little tougher you know so now he has to do more work rodney was shooting it and then he had like 400 to one shot to make you know in his favor he overdrew it don't get on the rail again he purposefully overdrew it so that he didn't have to worry about having perfect speed this gave him a liberal margin of error and that was well played and he got to two peggy lyon wins his second game trails in the match now three games to two you see what i mean so far from what you said earlier and i'm not condemning you because you're a great commentator but from what we've seen in the first five games rodney is playing a little better position than my friend alex you know he's working harder than rodney but it doesn't matter he could overcome all this top snooker player get a nice look at this just a little bit of a funny angle on this nine ball uh in the previous rack see that funny little angle there and rather than try to be real cute with this position he just went ahead and amped up gave himself a bigger margin of error well played that was a breaking run out for paga lyon that time makes it 3-2 now so we played five games we have three breaking runouts at the times that we did and i think they didn't get a shot on the first ball another good square hit on the head ball i think he's blessed with a reward here yeah he's got a good shot on the one for rodney morris when he comes the table and all the balls off the rail in the open and they're all leading to each other look at it make the one the two to the three is easy the four is right there yeah i would imagine rodney's gonna run out again in my years of observation when the balls are open that's much to rodney's detriment he does not do well from those positions he's nowhere near as consistent as the other top players he's much better when he scrambles around the table and oftentimes even in a rack like this he will play himself out of position still capture the rack by playing two or three trick shots and that's just his style and it's very very effective never belabors position play too much well that's the effect of getting a little longer than you wanted to be yep so now alex has a chance to tie this match up conversely alex is very effective from positions like this first big error of the match yeah here's a replay of that shot and it's a testimonial how tight these pockets are it barely scuffs the rail getting in there most tables that goes in but but not here under the championship in five days ago even five days ago it was brand new right even as recently as five days ago on this tough pocket i was informed today that these pockets are cut at 142 degrees and as little a difference of one degree on these pockets uh one degree more open 143 makes them play very generously it's been raining all day and 141 maybe plays almost like a snicker pocket you wouldn't think one degree makes that much difference nice three cushion position here between the six and the ten ball watch out six watch out oh he hit it all right yeah i would have hit it a little bit softer to assure not going astray well for a short player this ball really plays tough because it's hard to reach out there over the six yeah he's going to need the bridge i believe had he stopped the foot short of that then he would have had a little easier twist but he can't yeah he's all right but you know you're better off when you don't have to use the bridge alex is a tremendous shot maker also as he plays world-class 6 by 12 foot table snooker you know i caught a zach he ran 131 while i was there he won the canadian national snooker title there's no fluke about that 6x12 very unforgiving now you're using canadian terminology when you say fluke and screw back screwing the ball all over it's a deep screw that's a draw stroke canadian and a person that's a good shooter is a good potter i love it i love canada i love the canadians a high run is a break right you're right trickles the six ball in great ball speeds by these professional players well he doesn't want to go two rails here i think he's going to put a little reverse a little left-hand english to straighten it out i don't think you want to deal with the uh with the 10 ball and the path he's keeping up low though like he can feel more comfortable that way i didn't like that just because of this 10 you know that's it's all right i would have put a little reverse well i think he felt very confident about getting this position now yeah certainly easier to determine that when you're at the table as opposed to where we're sitting dead center of the pocket no problem got just a little straight a little bit of work left here very manageable we expect him to get it but does have to play some position here he's got to draw the ball well he underdrew it a little but i don't think he's gonna miss this would be the 10 ball that would tie the match at three games a piece center of the pocket handles the cue ball we have a tie ball game now it's peggy lyon breaking now the stands have filled up now yeah they love their pool in this area well there's nothing like the magnetism of a huge match like this two titans of the sport and what is there eight players left right yeah we had our first round last night many of the uh established favorites went down in flames testimony of the quality of the field peggy lane gets a little spin centers the cue ball up is the two ball gonna trickle in it does nice shot on the one yeah sukay lost last night uh dennis arkula lost last night mika eminem lost to peggy lyon last night bustamante won he was favored in this match but it wasn't an easy match he had uh shane van boning when i say favorite that would be just by a fraction if anything going two rails to the three that's johnny archer also lost last night who beat johnny uh i want to say stevie moore but i could be wrong it all runs together after five days of this he wants to see where he want where to get on the four ball that would make it ideally stevie beat ralph's suitcase stevie moore 15 to 14. yeah 15 to 14 you you bet 29 games of 10 5 hours holy god tricky position play here not for alex that was pretty good yeah handled it very nicely came around there didn't try to overdo it or anything just a little bit of right hand spin alex has battled back from a 3-0 deficit and the game is tied three games apiece alex is shooting if he could successfully negotiate the remainder of the rack it would be a second break and run out i imagine he's gonna negotiate yeah things do happen but yeah be silly to think that he wouldn't miss the nine and go closer to the seven that's what he did he got perfect he got absolutely perfect keeping the cue ball off the cushions falling on nice angles here he would love to get straight in on the eight he would also love it if he was just a little bit taller easier to reach you know if he's a six by twelve snicker player he's pretty handy with the bridge though oh yeah all the canadians know how to use that bridge good form displayed with the bridge here notice he doesn't try to do much with the cue ball just take what he could get this is just roll the eight ball in nothing fancy alex pops out of the stance confident that the ball was going to find the mark stun the cue ball one cushion out to the center of the table right where he is now and that's what he did well this 10 ball for his second breaking run out in his first lead in the match four games to three that's how fickle this game is rodney was romping three nothing alex wasn't getting any shots now it reversed and rodney's been sitting for four racks but he did have a shot he missed that ball and he's getting punished rodney's made really essentially one mistake and he's trailing four to three yeah after seven games that's that's tremendous because uh amateurs playing ten bubba might make four or five mistakes in one rack let alone only one mistake after seven wrecks there are no amateurs here not in this field nothing but killers there's all the guys you've ever heard of here that play great and there's many that you've never heard of that play just as well okay peggy lyon switching sides of the table i believe we're familiar with seeing him break from [Applause] and he blasted him good power three ball no ball made nothing all right the one rack the game get a second look at this break grip hand not too far forward you can see the head and body lift throws the elbow into it square hit on the rack it's put a ball action you know the one mistake that came up was in the rack that was the most wide open for rodney morris it's what you said right and now driving these better when they're a little mixed up kind of like this racket rodney's good from here yeah the two is a little tricky that's what i mean that's what that's what he does his best he just makes things happen from these positions he fell on the two that was just a gorgeous shot there threading between all the balls come around four cushions to obtain nearly ball in hand position now i'll tell you i wouldn't gamble on getting perfect down to three i might just take the cut onto three go right yeah that's well i don't know about this well he he's left-handed so he's gonna have trouble reaching this one no i think he can get it okay this that was a good shot there yeah well look where his leg is going yeah go ahead and do that like that stabbing him one hand oh you're right danny he's gonna be awkward for him he's you know i don't know if he likes using the bridge but a right-hander would have been perfect sure would they even felt like rodney could get it but clearly he can't he wouldn't defer to the bridge if he didn't have to uh huh trickle the cue ball back down table well you gotta get good on the five to get good on the six so that you know that's why you had to get good on the four right and he didn't really get super good he can stroke it out of there he didn't it doesn't have to get good position here this is uh sensitive because how the ball enters the pocket determines whether you scuff the nine you don't scuff the nine or you choose to use draw heat your hose to use stun settle for less than ideal angle on the five but but he does have uh position to some extent good position for him well getting to the five i mean from the five to the sixth is going to be a little tricky well this is his specialty is shot making he'll just go ahead and play a couple of these balls off backwards get back in line collect the game yeah he's looking because he didn't get real good on this nope the good thing about it is if he falls on the six he doesn't have much to do to get to the seven but he's not gonna like this well maybe he will this is what i was talking about don't have much to do now he'd like to draw back but that makes pocketing the six ball just a little bit tougher yeah he doesn't really have to as long as he's not on the rail with the cue ball he can get pretty good to the eight from the seven with any angle but he drew the ball good shot there i think if he just stops it gets stuck on the rail so close and then that corner pocket scratch is huge on that shot so yeah he's gonna have a good angle on the eight now get to the nine he chose purposefully to take a little more trouble and risk on the six to ensure that he gets the rest of should he make the six and get back for the position rather than maybe have a tough seven ball felt like that was the lesser look at this very very hurry he's perfect perfect no he isn't perfectly straight a little straight so i don't know do you cheat the pocket and go two rounds or do you come back and shoot the 10 in the fire pocket i think he just draws back and shoots the 10. yeah that's what he did didn't get perfect no he's better off though i'm going to tell you he really is watched him for years great great player well i wouldn't shoot it in the left pocket he shot it in before you got the uh what was that again rodney morris chisels through that rack it's a smaller pocket shooting it diagonally ties the match up for a piece race to 11 now a funny turn of events there the rack that you would expect he would maybe have trouble with he chops right through the rack that looks like he should get through no problem made one ball four or four yeah yeah that is let me see the kentucky colonel that's the can yeah that's that is who is it nick varner i know who it is i'm just checking you out he got inducted last night into the bank pool hall of fame great player you know and i made a little speech and i had to talk about him and buddy and i told the truth i've been doing it over 50 something years i had trouble beating barnard varner was my toughest uh player to beat well he was tough for everybody there's a lot of professional players that don't have any wins against him rodney morris amps up that's no that's a no-no you go off the table with good players you could forget that rack yeah really uh i could see the four ball ultimately maybe being a slight problem but probably not just the one to the two and he has ball in hand to do it with so yeah that helps it would have been difficult without ball in hand the rocket looks on deeply concerned you hate making unforced errors at this level of competition because they're so fatal so often even if alex was real no no yeah even if alex was to make a mistake often times he can still recover and play enough of a safety that you come back to the table with either a very poor shot or kicking well alex is fooling around down there i don't know what he's doing exactly he cleaned the feral a minute ago well he's getting ready to shoot now let's get his tip scuffer out funny guy alex he engages the crowd at some point you know very relaxed and maybe even deflect some pressure that way is he looking to shoot to 10 no i don't know he's looking yes he did yeah i guess he took a cursory look at it but he's fine just gonna follow ahead yeah you want to get an angle where you don't go into the six so you got to have a cut probably be a one cushion position i think you'll go all the way to the rail and then bounce out rather than perhaps try to play perfect speed to get there mission accomplished yeah very great competitor alex paglian like to get a little closer to the three ball i would think he's gonna use draw back to the center of the table or just beyond got close to his work yeah it's sensitive he might have come up with that funny angle that kind of leads to his right just slightly but pretty straight in where you'd have to really power up to get across the table i think he got full enough to just draw looks like he's following it two cushions that's what he did and where are you gonna get no handle it beautifully get close to the forward a little bit off angle but when you're this close that plays pretty nicely when you're in good form certainly gets the momentum going trickles the four down the cushion got perfect i would have to venture to say that alex is out well you might have to hit rails now top spin to the end rail and back up i had to use a little right hand english so the angle played a little funny handled it well he's fine he's going to get as close to the eighth as he has to and the eight is hanging so that's not that important but what i always say is even when it's hanging try to get close to it as long as you're not gambling i'm missing because position from that ball that's close to the pocket is a lot easier if you're close years of experience there don't take it for granted and be sloppy go ahead and play the proper position closer you get the higher your degree of success is yeah a little high left english center of the table peggy line's going to make rodney morris pay for jumping the table here peggy lang grabs the lead five games to four well the bad thing here for rodney morris is that he might mean not be done paying for that jumping the table because peggy lyon has the break a great break he's already broke and ran out two of his five wins well i always said that you're better off hitting that cube well solid into the one and take a little speed off just so you don't go off the table or in a pocket because with good players you're done you go off the table or scratch you can forget that rack maybe more than that yeah rodney miss hit the head ball the cue ball jumped off the table straight to the right so we know he missed it and then he was hit a little bit downward so it was bouncing that's all it takes it's one hop and on the floor yeah he didn't hit anybody in the foot though okay where's he gonna break now he hasn't had success from the left side he moved it over to the right now that's what you got to do you not only got to switch put the cue ball different spot when you're not having success but watch where your opponent's breaking from that gives you two vantage points to figure out where to break from oh boy well better find another spot to break from because that didn't work either but in all truth he didn't hit him as square as he had been either did he but he got a lot of action nothing found a pocket well this is one of the racks you say that rodney's better off with than like automatic stuff he's got to try to draw the ball between the six and two played a two in the side but he's got to come with a pretty good shot and don't hit the three he did that he did all right except he's gonna have trouble getting to the three now you know he goes three rails he's running into a lot of obstructions real tricky right now he's looking at what if he would just settle for a real long shot well this inch position if he can hit the cue ball low here which could be trouble i don't know how close he is to that point but if he can hit it low he can go one round that's where he's pointing to well he's nearly pinned to the cushion so he won't be able to go low he can hit downward slightly oh he's going to have trouble it's like you said he's going to take a little bit the worst of it to get a shot for sure but what i love about it is that he played for this and this shot plays much easier when you play for this position than when you randomly get here when you didn't mean to yeah or when your opponent leaves you here you know it's a little bit tougher let's see what he does you know this is no gimme first of all not at this range and these unforgiving pockets are absolutely right they're playing tough let's see what he can do here this is not an easy wreck he made a good shot what's going to happen now he didn't want to be too precise with position and be cute with the speed he knew he could pocket the ball much freer at that pace but it also diminished his accuracy with position so he's not happy right here well but that's his style he bangs around a little bit and you're right he's not happy but these are the type of things he just makes something happen he forces it to happen rather than try to play it let her perfect he's looking at this uncharacteristically because he gets up and shoots he doesn't stop he's thinking about bumping the five ball down table i think to kind of travel alongside the cue ball and it turned out great handled it well planned it out he's smiling about it too he likes it sure yeah he knew there was a lot of things that could happen there well you know he's been around quite a while i remember when he had all black hair it's getting a little gray now you think pool did it you know what i mean obama got great and he's not even a pool player that happened in about two years didn't it well i want to go back to when the rodney billiard did that ball for position down table on the five that's the kind of amateurs shoot with a split mind rather get single focused about making the ball and then they end up hanging up the ball and get the five down table so you got to make your mind up and be committed to that shot before you shoot it look at that stroke he didn't even pull it down one stroke he got trouble with the 10 no he got good okay one stroke he pulled back and shot it and he hit it perfectly look at this draw back a little bit you got the eight in the side you want to be straight in on the eight so you can go to the nine he did it now he needs a little bit of an angle on the nine you want an angle but you also want an easy shot that's that's perfect yeah that's perfect mission accomplished on both fronts he's gonna have to pound it a little bit but he sure can do that well that's great playing there it is started off with a super tough rack as rodney morris ties the match up five games a piece well we predicted it's a toss up and so far it looks like a toss-up because now they're playing a race to 10. funny rack there too because uh easily twice as difficult as the rack he failed on earlier and here he came right through it with flying colors well actually rodney's made like one mistake this whole match so far i don't think alex made any i can't remember it it certainly wasn't a glaring error no he pushed in the first rack for and he kicked and sold out but every other time he got a shot he ran out this truly is one inning 10 ball meaning the first player to get a good shot goes ahead and completes the game and how much is first place in this well never asked the tell commentator a question you didn't know the answer to danny i don't know the answer i mean me i don't know either i think it was about 12 000 though that'll buy lunch in paris it's something pretty good and they won't cheat you out of it so you have to give credit to fat boy eric peterson put this match together this tournament it started off as just an ancillary event here at the derby city behind the one pocket nine ball banks and now it's become well what i think to be the premier event here and they got the straight pool shoot out in the other room and mika has the high run with that mikan's run 155 john schmidt had 127 but now mika beat that the other day john schmidt in practice ran a 249 on that same table told me that he missed a dead combination next ball how could it have bed bad if you missed it no you're right he's such a funny guy though he has a great disposition well a few years ago practicing in norfolk at the u.s open he ran 401 balls then he told me right after that he said you know i don't feel good he says i don't think i'm playing real well and he got eliminated one two after that so you know he knew something wasn't right but how does how do you have nothing right when you run 400 i wouldn't know well where do you push here i say you got to tie up a ball the eight's pretty tied up but i think there's a billiard on the nine if you're gonna go there's your answer he tied it up he did that's what you're supposed to do when you push now rodney for sure we'll pass this back oh i don't know why he would play you cut the you cut the two softly you can snooker oh look at he's gonna brush the one gently did he hit a rail yes he did still not gonna get the best of this deal i don't believe the end of the day but that's all he could do well the ball might be dead the two might be dead he's going to look at it he might have left the dead one here if it's dead he's sure going to be kicking all out at it well he'd still have to use some english to warp it in there or else some draw to warp it in there i had a right-hand english short draw you're right there's a good job here yeah that's the problem it's true yeah yeah yeah those dead ones are only good if you hit him straight on and he didn't when you have to manufacture an angle to kick at it and it's that far away the the dead one can easily be missed it's only dead when you can hit it perfect oh i think he left alex a backward cut on the one here i think alex can shoot this inside yeah cue ball position and probably collide into the five ball if he makes this successfully and then after that could scratch or make perfect position or anything else so it's just a crack of light it's not a a real good opportunity no it's not i don't see a good safe though you're better off shooting at the ball when you don't have a good safe i think he's going to cut at this and if he hits that five it's going to help him as long as he doesn't scratch depends what side he hits it he made that where are you going to go paul he's going to get some kind of shot well good deal yeah he earned that yeah but how do you get to the three now the pocket's in the way right but i'm just saying he didn't deserve to be hooked after such a good effort which does happen all too often i'll tell you i don't think he can take liberties try to get good on the three i think he has to get to the center of the table and take the cut on the three mm-hmm if he could just come you know zooming back towards the uh one diamond past that side pocket and just settle in about where he's at now that's that would be excellent position i don't know if he can get there but perhaps not there you're gambling on being snookered i like cinching this get to the middle of the table and take the cuts that's what he's looking at absolutely good call there danny after 10 games it's five games apiece it's been a total of one major error thus far tough shot because he's got to roll it in this ball is going to bounce [Music] oh he managed to hit the balls that was better yet great shot here we go now we're going to get a second look at this great shot here look how thin he had to hit it he hits the right side of the five ball that's how thin that was struck great shot great shot and just like this other one right now alex peggy line kind of reminds you of a little ball pocketing machine that's what he is he's really a tough competitor just tell him what game we're playing he goes to shoot them in you got to beat him he's not going to give you anything you got to beat him he got a little funny here but that was with the bridge jacked up so this he took what the table was willing to give him good shot but there's a lot of work in front of him here this one i think he has to roll in i don't think he can pound it and get any better on the six he's got to roll it in because he has to get full on that sixth to get to the seven and roll would be maybe uh too hard he's it's to be hard he's got to super roll it you can also hit it with a little speed and go into the tent that'll keep him good based on where he placed his tip looking for position down there on the other end of the table looks like he does want to use just a little bit more pace than the super soft shot i think he's going to try to hit the tent one rail that'll hold him perfectly body pretty kills it beautiful if you hit it on the full side and killed it killed it more than you really wanted to i think that makes this play a little tough because now the cue ball is going to kind of settle into the side cushion there yeah he still has work with the 8-9 although i think the billiard eight nine is good hit the eight first make the nine good call yeah get off the rail a little bit south of the eight ball there that would be great oh he's right on the rail yeah he just wanted to settle in there there was not much you could do but just stop it well he's either got to roll this in or force follow it center ball with a stroke ball stomps on the seven and then it pushes forward a little bit because he i don't think he likes rolling the ball very much but it's not just him most of the top players don't like that shot either they want to stroke it stun it in stun it forward rather than roll it forward rolling it forward is more of a straight pool type of a shot the rotation type players tend to use a little bit more power in their swing but on the road i got to force this and go forward a little because you you can't trust the table you know this gotta roll straight if he hits it's off super long perfectly rolled it in just gorgeous he's got the nine he's gonna have to shoot the eight in the far corner this is where the filipinos have a big advantage on playing a position on the eighth ball here yeah because they do it so often in rotation well he's got a shot he might have to shoot this in the right hand pocket to him but position is there if he makes it he's got his mind made up he just takes an extra moment to clear his head to make sure he makes it real good he's just trying to shoot him he's going to be shooting at the 10 in the pocket where he's at and he did that nicely it didn't look like any problem at all drilled it home and as peggy lyon pockets the ten ball he reclaims the lead six games to five pretty good out yeah he had a few rolling balls he had you know tough position he did it all very very nicely the balls appear to be wrecking okay [Music] what we're witnessing here and we and we do so often the last few years bob has they've taken 10 ball nine ball those games and turned it into an art form danny they perfected the break to where they're all getting maximum effect on the break and then their decision making position play shot selections about the only thing that goes awry is the fickleness of the balls yeah he's not making balls on the break but as you know the filipinos all play rotation back in the philippines when they come here and play nine or ten balls it's like us going from nine balls to six mile morris takes a look at the table i think he might like to play the one in the left hand corner and billiard the three down by the corner pocket in so doing good shot but don't glance at much or you could snooker yourself yeah he's not playing it that way he's gonna back up the one oh he's not gonna have a great shot here yeah on the two oh yeah he's got the two he's got the two and uh he could cheat the pocket and go one rail shoot the two to the left side of the pocket and hit the rail that's what he did and he did it nicely nine ball makes this shot just a little bit tricky well that's the four down to his right right way over there yes and then the five's on the other end of the table boy this is tough three cushion position here that's a beautiful shot he might soft draw and try to get past the side pocket oh no looks a little bit thin from here but the four is off the rail might be able to do it in either case what he can do it's going to be a tough shot well he just looked at the four cushion position laid his hue out there we'll be able to tell by where he cues up at whether he's going forward or backward going forward a little bit of right hand english and you got perfect you couldn't draw it on paper any better than that to go one rail to the six smoothly structure looks a little straight but if you use a little right hand english i think i mean left no i mean draw with right oh i don't like drawing it i think you can go forward with left but he's going to shoot your shot well look how straight this is though so he didn't have much angle yeah it looked to me like he had a little more angle well he's going to run into the seven didn't hurt him no he failured at seven played position well seven there gotta roll it softly but you don't have to worry about getting straight either angle will get it over cut it just a hair danny that's why he lost the cue ball a little bit he sure did he might have to draw the ball with left hand english hit the end rail and then come back to the nine i don't know if he can hit it full enough to do that but i think that's the shot right here can't really fault him there um difficult shot the seven ball okay does he go three rails shoot the nine up the corner i believe because he killed the bomb no no he played this how do you like that cushion position i wouldn't have done that with a gun on my head wasted no time and doing it either shot one thing with rodney morris when you watch a stroke delivery notice the timing of the transfer from the backswing the force when always fluid and that aids him in being a great shot maker look at that he also doesn't agonize over the ball he makes his mind up gets down and shoots pretty good out and that was not easy six games ap says rodney morris will be breaking now it's a race tonight and you say this game here means 3 500 for the winner and the reason i say that is ken shulman announced it right before the match one thing about alex he doesn't waste money with bills he's going to go to the crap table with his pride money well that's not much of a ringing endorsement for his backers backers have to understand him yeah rodney's laughing just hang loose he's from hawaii that happy-go-lucky attitude goes a long way because this sport is so trying if you you'll you'll get ulcers if you agonize over every little dilemma that occurs pocketed the one ball on the break shot on the two well if anything the seven is a little funny oh position on the three might be a little bit funny too maybe the three goes right past the 10 in the corner pocket and rodney's looking at that now as we speak if it doesn't there's alex he looks like he's about 12. yes he does great disposition on him too loves what he does known throughout the pool world is the lion the alex baguio line the heart of a lion great champion good representative of our sport very colorful oh he overcut it badly that was the one stroke that got him he isn't always lined up perfectly that was one stroke bad stroke i know you don't like that i don't teach one stroke for sure but it works well for rodney morris except there except there but other times he uses it and he creates things that other guys can't do with 10 strokes so i can't find fault with it if you can get the same results it's just harder to do he liked to go two rails here and hit that uh is that the five ball he's near uh the cue ball is near the four balls right next to it the five balls down there by the two okay he can go two rails and aim at that four-wall you're saying yeah yeah that's what i would be thinking right now to do with anything it would be high right-hand english oh he didn't he did it all differently well we're going to show that shot that rodney just missed watch his body simply missed ball didn't deflect as much as he thought or scored as much as he thought when he used that right hand english he's such a shot maker i don't think this is bothering him at all same with rodney morris we'd fully expect him to get this ball as well perfect now if you're riding the only thing you could hope is that he goes astray on the seven he does have a pretty good billiard seven to the nine but he's gotta come with good speed well i'm way ahead of myself he's gotta get there first and to get there right you got to get there good on the five and he did that and he can roll the six into the side and let the cue ball drift down to the end rail between the come back between the seven and eight perfect yeah in the economy of travel with the cue ball picked up the right angle you could draw it over there as well but i think the follow to the end rail with a little right hand english is just a little more consistent i think he finally looked at the billiard but no he's playing the combination i don't know no there's enough room he wouldn't have played this at the 70s there's enough room according to that there's no room you're right yeah well he played the billiard on the kick yeah i would have got to the end realms on that but whatever way he did it he still got the dice he sure did beautiful shot there he kicked billiard is in yeah beautiful shot well designed now he falls just a little bit straight on the seven well you don't have to do anything the nine is near the pound i mean the 10's near the pocket so just cinch the ball he didn't you know he got worse than he would have been well he's playing the eight yeah he could have cinched it and just played the eight in the side no that's a funny angle on those little side pockets down there on the end rail i understand but you know look where he got now yeah right well you know worse this is just as tough well i'm just saying yeah he took a chance on the left-hand corner bigger bigger pocket you can brush the rail and make it shoot in this shot but he didn't brush anything that's a pretty good shot yeah real good shot that was very missable ball as pagan line pockets is the 10 ball that's game number seven on his side and he leads seven games to six you know danny's sometimes sitting in the booth if a match goes long it gets a little draggy it's hard to stay focused this one yeah i mean we could sell you the whole chair here folks but uh you're only going to use the edge of your seat anyway so yeah you're right about that but it's exciting enough and close enough to stay interested it really holds your attention and you know what's important to enjoy this is when you really know the nuances of the game if you've played yourself and you recognize these shots and when they happen to you and how hard it is to maneuver and then all the pressure of the immensity of the moment here great drama shifted way over to the side first time we've seen him break from here gotta try something he's not being successful anywhere well the one thing i can say he didn't pocket anything but i like the action on the balls from there better didn't you and he likes where it stopped because rodney does not have a shot on the one rodney's got a tricky push out here where do you push now really you want to tie balls up but how there's not much you can tie up unless you try to rub the five well even that's no good no it's going to be tough to do this tough can't push to a bank can't push to a really you have to push to a kick you know i i dislike that rule to begin with i think the push out's a dinosaur that died 30 years ago nobody knows it i've been saying it for a long time pat gets mad at me sometimes i don't like to push at all you're taking a chance breaking them if it goes good you got a shot to win take the bad part too you got a kick at everything yeah right well you got to kick anyway yeah i don't care and it confuses the audience you know some people a new person they don't understand what's going on i've been saying it for years i i don't like the push at all no it makes no sense in today's game you're taking a chance breaking them and hoping you make them ball and have a shot at the one well then take whatever happens when you when you don't have a shot at the one alex is laughing a little bit i think alex is good i think he's going to ultimately give it back rodney fainting like he's just going to go ahead and shoot without alex pallett passing it back and i think he's kind of he's kind of wishing alex would shoot it but alex laughs he doesn't fall for the decoy he was playing poker there trying to bluff uh-oh ball and paw yeah that wasn't really laying right for that two cushion kick unless you used a lot of right hand english on the cue ball to stiffen it up off that second rail rodney made a bad push but he didn't have too much to do he couldn't tie balls up so he kicked at it two rails the push really didn't serve him there either you know he didn't get much accomplished there and then he ended up creating a foul anyway he probably if he would have had to kick it i know right from the where the lady on the break had no he would have hit the one so not much was accomplished with that well okay where does the three go now inside it looks like the three goes in the side only yeah alex is playing that out in his mind see what he's doing with the cue ball he's trying to figure out yeah too bad he can't shoot the three first now that's where he's looking to see if he wants to be under three he's not going to shoot to three people out there believe me he's just trying to see where he has to be when he runs to one and two which i'm sure he'll do he centered up the cue ball in the center of the table queued up on it like he might shoot the three but he was kind of measuring the beard on the 10 he's never going to play that shot i don't know exactly why he did that but kind of funny now he put tip over there where he can shoot the combination 310 but i don't know if he can get there i kind of like going two cushions here side side drop down below no he's playing the billiard like you said but he didn't get quite the right angle to save the three i really don't like this shot that he played for because he could have gone further another eight feet dropped down below it would have been great if the eight weren't in the way how's that i like this shot yeah well he does too great shot there pretty good shot the first time in the match that alex peggy line has a two game lead at eight games to six want to see that again we want to see it and so do the people that's a tough shot because if you hit it too low you go wide he hit it perfect look at this the right hand spin help guide the pinball and a little bit aided that shot tremendous shot i agree very subtle struck with soft speed you'd better be pretty decent at your billiards game to play that shot with any degree of confidence and he played position for that he did because he couldn't get any better position well alex is playing better than i'm commentating i didn't see it as a reasonable alternative he saw it as almost a foolproof chance well alex should be out here you're doing the commentary and you should be down there playing no you rather have it like this i'm afraid it'd be pretty boring for the audience here many people would be able to identify with it better well he's back there he's still so far he hasn't made a ball oh boy well that's that's really how hard it is to make balls these guys kind of overpower the table sometimes so you kind of get used to balls going in on the break but it's hard not making balls on the break rodney morris was but he hasn't broke in a while well what's up here rodney might have to push out here or twirl around it maybe he can i guess he can hit it here on the overhead looks like he can hit it enough to play safe no he's going to have to curve spin safety play oh he didn't do too well the only thing good about this is alex is going to be a mile away from the two i don't know or maybe two's right down there by the night but does he have an angle well we'll find out looks like he might have just enough of an angle he doesn't have much here from this camera view danny you can see not a lot of angle but enough angle i think you're right looking at this view he does he's going to have to shoot it straight to the pocket but with a little bit of speed he did that pretty well he had just enough angle as you called i think those with the five down there i thought the six was the two that's why i made that dumb remark okay from up here i can't see the colors we all make the mistakes from up here we are about 40 feet from the table bringing the cue ball to the center of the table once again a little bit of left hand english preserve just a little bit of angle that helps by design i might add well if he doesn't have a good enough angle he can go forward that is the four on of cushion here he can go either way you can go forward forward or backward probably forward play easier sure what get on the rail you'll have a perfect angle no he looks like he's drawing it sure is he's doing it nicely too look he's got a perfect angle and you can see by the way he played the shot that that was a little bit easier than perhaps what we thought it was going to be because he got there no problem i didn't think he had that good an angle but now where do you want to be you want to go forward and cut it to the left or you want to go two rails the other way missing the tent i think you got to spin forward well we'll see what he does he measures it up as if he's going to cut the ball to his left when he shoots it yeah he's going to spin forward great speed pretty good shot wow wow the audience really should applaud for that effort that was that was a great shot now all he has to do is make the five and then shoot the six up the corner and stick he's perfect down the seventh here there's going to be very little cue ball movement for the rest of the rack so you know it's well played yeah anytime you see the cue ball just moving a maximum a foot of distance here in between these shots that's pretty darn good playing and that's why we say you know this is world-class professional pool at its absolute finest yeah you're not going to see any better play [Music] you roll it in so you can have the angle on the eight to get perfect on the nine it comes down to take a look at what angle you would like on the nine yeah he can settle for either angle but he plays for one specific angle he doesn't play general position because that lends itself to inconsistency you're right you got the angle perfectly go one rail to the top little bounce yes he did i think he's gonna play this three cushions though nope two questions two cushions yeah there was no need to do three no i wasn't i thought it was thinner than it was he handled it well well done starting to pull away expands his lead [Applause] nine games to six [Applause] [Music] yeah let's see that great position he played from the four to the five i mean he did it perfectly center right hand english nice speed there perfect very subtle delicately played shot many in the audience don't realize how much side spin that he had to account for in terms of his aim he had hands good speed too well now he shifts to the other side of the extreme edge of the braking area here just to try to make something happen and that didn't work no you know what don't feel bad alex you're not making a ball on the brake you're winning every game don't change the thing rodney once again he's he's pushed out once failed that last time he half mass aide failed that both times just cost him a game and now he's confronted with yet another predicament of that same type of nature look at alex he's happy right now look at him his eyes are smiling well it was a massa i mean it wasn't reckless uh straight in just a carelessness he tried to massay it halfway it was just a little bit too hard until the crab didn't take quite as much as he needed it to yeah he just wanted to shoot you know he's been sitting there a while he wanted to shoot at something i think he's going to be sitting there a little longer so now he's pushed out he tried to play a safety and now he's tried to play offense from the break nothing has worked so he's going to try to go two cushions yes perfect shot great shot there it had to come very near the side pocket couldn't play it with any more speed couldn't play it with any less speed for the spin to grab properly yeah he's got to go forward now and take the cut in the side and he can go anywhere off of that can't try to get between the 8-9 he's got to go forward i don't think he's going to hit that four ball is that the poor yes it is okay right i think he's just gonna follow let the cue ball drift out between the eight and ten yeah that's what he's gonna do take the angle on the three ball no problem getting to the floor now he's playing perfect oh yeah he hasn't made any mistakes it's hard to beat a guy like this every time you give up a little something he's just up there on angle running ball after ball that really frees you up gives you some momentum you feel like you're supposed to win got perfect nice draw stroke there very effective spin well he'd like to get a little angle now on the five like you know so he can get to the six if he can at least get semi close to the five then he can kind of manipulate it a little bit yeah he's got to bounce off the rail though make sure he's got some angle to go forward or one rail he did what you said he got close just gorgeous shot there that's a nice angle here he's playing good it sure is center of the table position once again it seems like we always call that there it is that's how vital and valuable that position area is on the table okay he's got to play for one corner with the seven which corner i think you got to play to the corner to his right right now it looks like it's got a little better speed to do that well if he can stand between the eight and ten here which i think that he can now where he puts his fingers is almost as if he's intending to go three cushions to get to that yeah he can't stun this he's got to try to get to the seven in in one of the corners i'm saying slide the six ball pocket to six ball and drag it between the eight and ten and then oh yeah coming down here now he's acting like he puts his finger like he's planned on going forward with it you're right sure you're right he had to see which way he wanted to go better percentage looks like he's going forward he's playing to that pocket that i called tremendous shot there very good yeah he got perfect planned it out well executed it well now he has to come back a little well he might even be able to stop it there yeah you know he can shoot the eight in the corner too but i think he's gonna draw it a little bit and that little extra speed helped to keep his stroke straight i think that's why he chose that shot rather than try to be real cute and delicate and make it just a perfect stop shot he's playing perfect this is tough pool to beat oh it played as well as anybody has ever played a match here well i guess boost the money played pretty uh oh yeah yeah there's other people that have played this well before but they're few and far between this ten ball for a 10 game to six lead for pal yelling i think rodney was leading six to five wasn't he he's lost five in a row perfection yeah it's artistry i love it i would drive here from st louis watch this one match and drive home and feel like i got my money's worth forget that well i mean it you're just i'm a pool fan i still love it i love it more than anybody here well alex back to his coveted position that he started the match at for his break nothing has worked on the break he's won every game look he's going to make a ball ray he said but alex you've been winning every game you know and you haven't made a ball on the break look at the way they laid out here i know rodney's crossed his arms he's not very happy because he feels like he's not going to shoot this game either well he certainly feels like he'll be lucky this year because he can see there is a possibility of a break and run out thus far both players have broken around out for two of their games a lot of things could go wrong though the balls are open and available but there's some work to do yeah i don't think it's going to go wrong though he's playing perfect just draw the ball back a couple feet no he had an angle i didn't think he had an angle but how do you well he's all right he's all right he's going to run into the eight ball soft speed so the keyboard doesn't trickle away much and he's got the angle now to go one rail to the five will be i was right again six ball really only reasonably goes in that side pocket well that's the same kind of shot that rodney missed over juicing it but he didn't lose his head yeah he overspun it he's twisted it and overspun it but look what he left there's no bargains here folks well it's kind of reassuring and settling to see peggy lyon making there yeah starting to wonder that was the first mistake really i told you he was a little ball pocketing machine once the while the machine malfunctions but darn rare look at this shot rodney knows come to the table who didn't even want to play i like this you know i was going to suggest for a but he's going to sell out a shot under hit it just a little bit it's hard to overhead it power wise but yeah you could under hit that one that's what happened i think alex is gonna be happy to hit the eyeball cutting the three in once you sit in your chair for the better part of an hour before your last good shot and then you come up have to play a safety sometimes speed gets away from you yeah he's gonna have to run into the ball and hope he gets a shot well it seems like the one thing that could happen to alex's favor if he does that is a double kiss on the five if he doesn't he's gonna slide off the side there i think he's gonna cut it towards the pocket well he didn't even want to shoot it that's not a bad idea when the shot and position are tough look to play safe and rodney does not like this that was not nice what you did to him that was the savvy experience displayed of a great talented journeyman player well he didn't uh sell out badly well alex has got a similar shot that he missed but this one he would have to cut that thin you think he's going to shoot this in the far corner and try to twirl it with left i do i do because uh he figures he's gonna maybe leave things long here yeah as long as you leave distance if you miss gonna be tough to go from the three to the five that's the way you got to be thinking here but he would like to make it of course and if he does he feels like he's got a real good chance to go ahead and run out the game he made it and he's going to get a roll i don't really call that a roll when you make a shot of that difficult oh yeah i mean the roll is hitting the five two rounds and it's not perfect that's a little bit of a roll a little bit that's what's going to happen when you're playing good i i've been watching it now for 60 years when you're playing good they roll good if you're dogging it you're never going to get a roll it always works out weird it does we call that delberto's law caleb well i've seen it so much you know it's happened it's like alex has that angle where he may have to roll here i think he'd prefer to drag it around there withdrawal but it's not really laying right to me a little left handing a right-hand english she'll be fine because he needs an angle on the 8 anyway and that gave him just the right angle yeah i like his end of this one center ball here a little pocket with the eight keyboard comes across he's got just the right angle where he won't be on the cushion just a stop shot that will trickle slightly left straight in on the 10. my favorite shot alex peggy lyon nice rack there [Applause] and he now has a 11 game to six lead and a lot of momentum eleven to six this game was nip and talk for a while alex is slowly drawing away well really the turning point was when uh rodney morris came up to the table three times without a shot on the first ball and had to either push out try to play save or a mass a shot and those three games cost him dearly rodney really hasn't played bad the mistakes are very minimal thus far [Music] looking for someone we could talk about the old man there joe parsons yeah joe parsons great great customer of accustoms well a really nice man on top of that yeah comes here every year he said he was glad to see me i said i'm glad we're both here nothing's guaranteed yeah oh he made a ball no he didn't well he broke him around the last rack well not this time he didn't make the ball got a lot of action but look how tough it is to go from the one to the two wants to go to the side i would say does the two pass the six yes it does the problem is that one ball is so deep in there explain position from this hanger very very tricky it is tough to play position off a ball that's hanging no doubt about it no problem making the ball but how do you get to the two here that's the sensitive this is what you look at when you're losing by five games you can turn it around by making it a spectacular route here and the whole out here is falling on the two because nothing's certain here danny would you ever take the cue ball pocket the one attack the two ball with the cue ball with some speed you know just let it sail down to the center of the table what do you mean to try to hit it yes yeah oh no no no you got to try to play position here i think you hit rail first you got to miss the nine but it's still difficult because there's the seven you know real first you you can't use delicate speed i don't think no it'll fly okay no good he's got the two in the left hand corner but does it pass now it was a iffy circumstance but i don't think you're much behind if you attack it in that particular circuit well he attacked but he was trying to go two rails to the two in the side does it pass i don't believe so he can hit the edge of the two i can see that i think he has a shot there it's just a defensive shot good shot that's patience you know you can't do anything else from there don't give your opponent ball in hand you don't want to fall further behind with the unforced air at this point but it does take a great deal of composure to play a patient game when you're five racks behind and your opponent literally has not missed but one ball well let's see what happens here because i'm sure he's gonna hit the ball what's gonna happen well he can't play much from here it wouldn't be easy to play a kick safety there's not much like danny says he's gonna hit it but what happens after that he's not even sure but the main thing anything is better than ball in hand so hit it he's thinking two cushions yeah hit it he sure hit it okay yeah okay is ripe and not for rodney even if he can make the two how do you get to the three could he play the six back in the side pocket from here he could but you know what i believe you shoot the two straight on stop right there that's what he's got shoot the two straight on and stick the cue ball he's gonna be safe that's what he did nice shot that's all he had good call danny and he left a real tough kick now he doesn't have a good path he can't kick one rail the three is in the way he doesn't have a three rail kick so what do you do here there mark well i think you can go two ways you can go straight to the end rail and then use some left-handers to hit the side cushion below the side pocket but i think the better way is to use straight top spin and hit the side cushion before you get to the side pocket yeah total accuracy you don't need any english just hit the cube on the center and try to hit the angle to hit the two medium speed not hard that's what he did he didn't hit it though he hit it second but that doesn't count [Music] so rodney is rewarded for that series of good safeties that he made you better you better uh run some racks because he's five behind i don't know seems like he could have did a little bit more position wise but i guess he can handle it here he'll drift the cue ball up between the eight and ten play the four in the same pocket here good nice optimum he's fine now roll it forward play the five ball back in the side pocket he's only five games behind and he suffered quite a barrage from peggy lyon well you gotta forget the score now and just win him one by one he played a couple good saves he got rewarded he's not you know it's not going to take long to win this game rodney style really appeals to an audience too fast and loose freewheeling fun loving guy yeah i like it too keeps everybody entertained that's a game number seven for more so he trails in the match 11 games to seven and his girlfriend who's been sitting there all night had something to applaud about and she applauded that's amanda sitting there near rodney she was one of my nurses when i was sick you know at my house oh yeah but but we want to get him out why won't we get on camera here wait it doesn't matter if we see her we don't people got to believe there is a girl sitting there no no not not jesus anyway there's a girl sitting over there we could show her on camera but i just wanted people she was your nurse though yeah she's sitting right behind rodney in the rodney's chair yeah there she is the blind's sitting there well we we could see her on on this view you know that's her but i i i didn't think cena mattered i just wanted people to know that a girl's sitting there that had something to cheer about now okay rodney goes to the extreme side of the table powers up his break that looks pretty good he almost made the tent but that wouldn't have counted right no but it's actually better the way it lays there sometimes it affords you a combination later in the rack the three is hanging over the edge of the side pocket well what does he have how is he going to get to the three well he needs to avoid the ten ball and i think he can maybe do that come around three cushions then he has to avoid uh the five and six also well no that he would he's gonna come so near it if he uses a little bit of right hand thing they should be able to come around three cushions in this fashion you got good well he doesn't want to get on the rail here you have to pound this down on the rail this might be the high karate trick shot position you know what i mean yeah oh yeah he's spiking down so that suggests a draw he didn't get there gonna play safe ducks the cue ball up underneath the six good judgment he's disappointed but he didn't uh play two consecutive bad shots he's disappointed because he left a pretty good kick you know if he froze him onto six there wouldn't have been any room for a kick knew that he had a potential break and run out there and then failing to get position uh he at least played a decent safety here so that's what i meant he didn't not too consecutive bad shots good pool yeah i think he left a shot oh alex he's spiking down on this like he could pocket it yeah he could this would be the coup to grab he pops this in this is a backbreaker well he didn't pop it in there you go that's how hard that was yeah he was he was hoping to fire that and that would have done oh yeah a lot of psychological damage to rodney i agree with you 100 that was a backbreaker well rodney has a chance to win another game here i don't see any problems he has an angle to bounce out for the seven the seven's hanging this will be good if he can collect this game and get some momentum back on his side and get his stroke real free and loose again get the feeling like he's really in the match well he made a ball on the brake so that's that's a plus the score at this level of play doesn't really matter it's just getting your opportunities to play and like you said earlier he can only win him one game at a time there's no sense sparring he's not really playing alex peggy line he's playing the balls on the table you got to go two rounds to the ball on the side and they get a little careless here not like this oh okay it's gonna work out but nonetheless that's not the right way to get it oh you're right the one stroke well one stroke's okay that's his game yeah very effective game number eight for rodney morris he now trails 11 games to eight [Applause] but you're right for the barrage that alex hit him with he's close enough oh yeah oh yeah this is break that's what i love about this length of a run when you go to 15 games there's some ebbs and flows in there um and these guys have the talent to string some racks even in 10 ball and tough equipment there is my good friend eddie culhane pat's good friend he's from new jersey the one with the backwards baseball cap there's larry hey larry giles how you doing where did your woman go oh he's pointing up she went to heaven bad kiss here danny scratch on the break for morris oh oh that was just what he didn't need that's the momentum killer right there that's my uh theory keep that cue ball on the table because you're dead with good players he just earned a good rack and now he's made himself highly vulnerable to lose this and get that rack back man what's up alex peggy lion the six and the seven could be a little bit of a problem down the way we expect him to get that far we'll be a bit surprised if he doesn't although things do happen yeah there's jim and carol that's accurate that's uh great help always pleasant people i love them both hard workers smiling all the time and that's tough to do when you're dealing with the public she smiles absolutely yeah cheerful perfect good speed he's dialed in on the speed here perfect doesn't have to do anything but stop right there right no sense trying to get like buddy hall had a great saying he said don't play position when you already got it that's right that's it stop right there and take the shot i don't think there's ever been anyone that played simpler patterns than buddy hall and then execute them to perfection i always tell people that you want to see 9 ball played right watch buddy hall he always falls on the right side of the ball i said this last night it had his induction you know he got inducted last night in the one pocket hall of fame great player won major titles in four decades the rifleman stroke technique as well just a beautiful stroke had a little pause at the end of his backswing came through it so straight and smooth yeah perfect controls your cue ball never jumps up well yeah when you see him shoot you just feel like he'll never miss and he might not and he might not yeah he goes for extended periods without missing baggy line little angle on the four top spin to the end rail back up table for the five next no a little backspin yeah two cushioned out to the center of the table well he got the right angle to get as close as he wants to the six seven i mean you gotta play the combination there i don't know about the billiard if you got what right on the rail might be a good billiard because then you'll be playing position for the six i think that's the reason that he might consider it is that to be much easier to play position for the six than the combination not quite as easy yeah i like to try to fall right on the side rail but he's going to play for for the combination i i don't think there's any doubt he's aimed up both now he's back to he's going to play the billiard shot that would be nice because you're gonna have position for sure seems settled to play for a billiard a carom from the sixth to the seven ball here no no he's going for the combination okay where does the six go where do you play the six i'm going to tell you i think he's going to follow ahead and double kiss this ball coming off and that'll keep the six there for the same pocket no he's going to get blow up low yeah he'll kiss it though no he didn't where are you going six perfect okay perfect very commendable for a good shot that comes up in rotation all the time and these guys are just so adept at that from playing that shot where the american players don't have that experience nowhere near as accurate and developed a little weak on the speed here danny he could shout that a little harder because in drawing the ball you might go in the side now and you don't want to hit the nine because you still can glance into the side can he draw it past the side he's a tremendous shot maker but i think he's going to have to use some of that oh boy he doesn't have much room between the pocket and the nine it almost seems like he's gonna clip the edge of the nine so he'll go right in the side if he does that [Music] could he hit right between the side and tonight that would be hitting it a little bit below center softly you know if that nine wasn't there he would be well favored to make this ball make it way more than nine out of ten let's see if he can hit the rail past the nine but not in the pocket you throw the nine ball in there in his way and now that really makes this shot point i don't wanna hit the night you gotta hit the rail between the two ball oh he missed the nine and he got perfect he was able to use speed arc the cue ball out of the path of the nine there and that one great shot wonderful shot people don't realize how tough that was it could have easily been a round of applause for that shot and morris's scratch leads to this quick win here peggy lyon now leads 12 games to 8. you're starting to see the goal line nice [Music] now wave to the left side of the table here breaking from the cushion tried to make something happen it didn't hit him nice and square too got a lot of ball action moved six balls to the far end of the table nothing found the pocket morris looks to have a starting shot here on the one ball yeah even though it's far away but he's a great shot maker he sure is he lives and dies by his shot making good shot that's some work to do here for position [Music] a little bit of low right hand english maybe try to draw it down to the end real come out yeah that's what he's going to do you can't go forward methane that's what he had to do okay he didn't get perfect but he's got a shot and it was such a tricky shot it's hard to find any fault with a little bit of short position play here the four is right nearby so he just has to make this ball make it he did gotta shoot this in the side didn't try to overdo the position rather just control the speed let the cue ball kind of take the angle it wanted to naturally it looks like it's going wide of the nine which means you got to have pretty good speed but you can hit the nine fine but he did have good speed good job there top spin out a little bit of right hand english yeah but you don't want to get an angle where you hit the 10 off to six that's why he went this way and he did much too hard well that's why he didn't use the right hand anyways i suggested that it came out better good decision rodney two cushion position he's back in perfect line that's what's good about a champion they play well from behind you can't look at the score just play every game by game three cushions around back to the center of the table perfect stick the ball right there and then go at a perfect angle now he's going to go two rails one of his favorite shots there bend it out of the corner good shot well morris is going to be productive from peggy lyon's break as he picks up his ninth win here trails in the match 12 games to nine [Music] the rocket rodney morris well alex you better watch the break here because rodney makes balls on the brake see where he put him all and look where he's putting the cuba all the way over there well he wasn't breaking from there earlier when he was productive on the break but he did and the timbal almost went in again same action made a couple balls what happened here so you have a shot on the one he seems a little disappointed yeah no i guess he doesn't know where the three is good there camera angle here might attack the 10 ball here yep great hit he attacked the tongue ball all right yep well is the combination on will it throw look at it no it's not even together but he definitely can play the cue ball there's alex he's concerned now because the lead is diminishing a bit rodney is not perfect oh he's too straight you have to power up with it yeah he's gonna be playing it safe i thought not a good one [Music] he left the two well that's gotta be hugely disappointing then do you have a billiard off to three right you know i think he does right all he's gotta do is get out like a couple diamonds don't want to get too thin ahead on the under three but that's what he's going to do we know alex is very handy on these billiard type shots because we've seen it displayed earlier in the match that's what he's got tackled the two ball nicely he got a thin hit yeah oh he's all right he's got to hit it very thin he's got the billiard he's got to hit it very thin 10 is hanging in the pocket thinking yeah he doesn't know if he wants to go real thin or a little thicker and use topspin but now he's back to the thin hit fin is the best way here i agree hit the paint he's just rubbed the three he made it good job there [Applause] okay no that's a that certainly hurts rodney morris there they give up that game peggy lyon now two games away we're going to show that again 13 to 9. hit it very thin and even that was almost that's a game-winner boy it even went in shooting it slow on slow motion never thought he'd make it twice in a row tough shot well peggy lying back to his favorite place to break from this is where he's hit the balls to hit the rack the best he gets when you're not making it look at this he's got a little thing in his hand to break through so he didn't burn his fingers see it danny yeah i didn't even know they used that it's interesting oh he made a couple balls look at this and he's got position oh oh i'm only saying oh oh because he might get on the hill here which would mean rodney would have to win six in a row rodney's at nine is that it yes oh boy alex runs out here rodney's gotta win six in a row that's tough to do with good players rodney failing to capture the last game that was a big one and here's an interesting device on the brake cue what that does is it uh lessens the amount of friction between your fingers and the brake sometimes you'll get a little burn mark when these when you hit him this hard pretty interesting i've never seen any of the other pros employ some type of thing like that no you would think if anybody earl strickland would use well he has a glove you know i mean yeah the guys that have a glove that's the same yeah but he wants to be different yes he wears a glove on both hands sometimes so i don't think different is definitely true did he hit it hard enough without getting snookered what's going to happen here perfect it's going to be a great shot that's what's going to happen well he's going to be far away from the 6. i don't think he has much angle to get closer he can get a little closer but you've sped past the point that that was a great shot anyway yeah but the thing about it is what he ate is he doesn't have to get perfect position the eight to the nine no problem he he's made it a little bit sloppy to cheat the pocket so he can get off the rail yep and i don't like rodney's chances yeah the pocket was willing to accept that he maximized the pocket there to get a little bit of angle get it out here where you can stroke freely i'll explain this fantastic pool yeah roll it in you'll have a perfect angle on the night he rolled it in well there's rodney he can see it's slipping away he got a good angle here go one rail to the 10. notice he's not using much spin at all sidespin wise oh he almost missed that yeah he maximized getting down there without english by cheating the pocket a little bit and this 10 ball for his fourth break and run out of the match and there it is as peggy line gets himself on the hill and leads four games 14 games to nine yeah rodney is big mountain to climb now he's gotta win six in a row with it we're going to show the three rail position around the six here comes the tons of sidespin could have been disaster but when you're winning and playing good this will happen look at that he hit the eight perfect and of all the tricky plays that he could have made that was probably the best percentage play so well it could have turned out wrong it turned out right because he played the percentages and they just sometimes they favor you back to his favorite spot to break from he's got his braking device out there [Applause] boy with a solid brake controlled the cue ball he made the eight no the eight hung oh it didn't go in oh i thought it went in but he made a ball no he didn't amazing amazing amazing i thought the eight was in yeah it seemed to if you be hard it might fall like the guy they said that played so fast that he ran out the 789 but the seven hung up i said that about butera oh yeah duterte played so fast that you shot the nine and the seven hung up oh rodney not getting any luck here he played a nice billiard shot on that if the one ball goes anywhere but right on that rail or the cue balls anywhere but right on the rail he's got something he can do he could have shot at the tent but the cue ball stopped on the rail that's because he's losing yeah he's played great he just has but not really been blessed with that many opportunities to help to do something now he's gonna try to stun you try to play the tent that's frustrating yeah he's disgusted right now yeah i can't blame him that uh well he left the bank but how do you get to the 10. i mean how do you get to the two do you bank this and then play a billiard 210 oh i don't know that's i'm not even i don't know if alex can avoid the double kiss on the bank i'm sure he'd like he can he can make the bank well that's okay then oh the bank looks like it's straight in sort of i mean a hair left in english then he'll be playing a billiard but he if he doesn't like it he doesn't have to mess with it but the only problem is you know that tent is sitting pretty easy yeah i don't think the game is going to be run out to the 10. i think the 10 will go way before the run out he's going to play safe and rub that one ball down and try to put the keyboard behind him you got him well rodney better hit this or the game is over yeah good shot there for peggy lyon oh tough hit too yeah it's going to be hard to even impact the one ball with any velocity whatsoever and the balls are sitting so good you can't even shoot the 10 in and let them have ball in the hand because this is suicidal if you don't hit it that's going to be the match right there peggy lionel jump up here play look at rodney that's in for the kill here and with this shot that collects the match bag elia moves on robin morris gracious in defeat alex played very solid tough to beat that's how well he played you can't play better than that what could you look back on well you're you won alex quit shooting a couple practice shots oh okay okay on behalf of accustats mark wilson danny de la birdo thanks for sitting in with us we look forward to being here next time so long you
