we follow three female police officers i'm willing to receive a call from a train driver saying that he believes he's hit somebody across their week of shifts calm down calm down calm down if you get a car i'll see you there madness in it bye bye see you later frontline policing in britain is changing the percentage of women on the force has almost doubled in the last 20 years whoever's in that vehicle will be getting arrested in west yorkshire there are now over one thousand six hundred female police officers on duty today get your own granny back now from immediate response get down here to cid obviously you want to catch the people that have done this from those just starting out i know it's not your fault to the decision makers at the top morning folks thank you very much a single shift got him can be a matter of life we're just waiting for another ambulance to come death you can just see the mail he sat on the edge of the tracks and everything in between can you fit in there you can get lost and every officer has their own way of dealing with the job hi it's my public toilet tired and coping with the pressures it can bring back at home hi lovely okay would you want to be a policewoman no [Music] in bradford so i've got mine two bridesmaids mother of the bread and maid of honor before she heads out on duty pc jess graham is spending some time with her mum oh mother of the bride shall i do this one right having been engaged to her partner gary for four years jess now only has a week of shifts to go before the big day there look oh yeah you get another [ __ ] i'm all nervous that people are going to turn up no it's just make sure everything's finished in there but it will because there's a lot of us to crack on in there grandma said she'll come and help if i need her we'll get there and then it's a really important week for me it's like the build-up to the wedding and getting everyone together and making sure everything's all ready to go i can't stop shooting it's busy week at work and things so it's uh it's really important to make sure it goes right jess is starting the week on lates with the neighborhood policing team the force will have as many units available as possible it's bonfire night one of the biggest nights of the year yes did you get my email yeah i did how's it unboxed i know and it says in my email that i've got a lot of time to do with inquiries actually right now it's bonfire weekend so big weekend for us a lot of extra policing rest days council things like that for cops to come in and cover it so we've got extra patrols we tend to get a lot of large-scale disorder with people setting fires and there'll be a youths probably out in masses targeting people throwing fireworks at anyone and everyone tonight jess is on patrol on her own but other units won't be far away you've just got to think about your safety are they going to throw stuff at the car they're going to throw stuff at you and they're going to call stuff in to get you to go and then target you so like lure you into it everybody needs to watch the back and stay where you've got the ability to contact somebody so have your radio with you make sure it's got a battery in it you know don't go under the radar type thing last year on bonfire night weekend the emergency services in west yorkshire received over 1 000 call outs many relating to deliberate fires jess is on route to a situation that could quickly escalate out of control a group of over 50 teenagers have been reported to be throwing fireworks 1086 if you want to show me on that where do you want me to just come in um that's potentially the big video of um um and then there were some other unmarked units i think attending as well jess is one of a number of units who've been called to handle the scene over the last few years there's been a spate of reported attacks against the emergency services this might be where we've become a target because i saw many others but you do have to be quite unbelievable careful because sometimes you get there and it's not what you've been told the situation changes so rapidly so you you've always got that in the back of your mind we have a lot of problems here with kids and the like so well just got on the back here it's a lot upon itself [Music] in huddersfield acting sergeant charlotte savile is about to begin her week of shifts it's charlotte it's also a big week for charlotte in a few days time she'll be up before the promotion board in the hope that she can become a fully qualified sergeant i've rehearsed my presentation in front of my other half and got him to film me which is always awkward but at least i can look back and see where i need to make some changes oh welcome i thought you were a nuisance job before then she needs to get her team out on their first shift of the week we'll get started with 56 logs kit there's a job here for your log 1104 if you don't mind getting straight after that after breathing i've been acting up for over a year and a half i think i'm doing all right i have had a few incidents where you think oh i don't know how today is going to go dalton green lane it's not an easy ride it would be fabulous to get promoted it means so much to me i think early sorry are struggling for units so we'll probably get sent straight out to a few priorities but if no one's got anything else that's it thank you [Music] charlotte's first call out of the week is a road traffic accident explains the air as well to make an air research is there a vr end of this vehicle there are complications with the collision a senior member of the team has been requested on scene some colleagues just asked for more units as they're excited i think a sterling persia three or seven the male that is wanted on warren is one at times two [Music] the risk i think to patrol officers is very high we're having to make quick lifetime decisions that gets me anxious going to a job and i do think about that [Music] when she arrives on scene charlotte has to get up to speed first what's happened then yeah still in care and they've pursued it down here this has now become far more serious the road traffic accident involved the police car in pursuit of the stolen car unit one hour on route charlotte has no idea if there are any casualties or if the suspects have been detained who who's pursued it do you know once a car's been stolen it usually results in either a crash or a loss so i'm definitely overthinking every worst possible scenario that could happen oh god are they injured at all [Music] in bradford pc jess graham has been called out after over 50 youths were reported to be hurling fireworks these slides have got so much round here most of the teenagers have already fled the scene no matter that we followed them but plainclothed officers have detained several suspects including a girl well known to the neighborhood policing team she was allegedly seen disposing of a suspicious item whereabouts dan jess finds a pair of mole grips which are commonly used by burglars to force entry when she's been stopped she's been seen to throw something over there so me and joe you've gone over into that corner and there's a pair of grips on the floor the marks are expensive as well with sufficient evidence for an arrest they need to take extra precautions she's notorious for slipping her handcuffs so we've got to make sure that they're on tight enough so she can't get away from us basically oh in a minute jess has to search the girl again to ensure that she isn't hiding anything that she could use to either harm herself or the team while she's in the police van come on so she's been locked so far going equipped to commit left to axe base basically that could be like from a vehicle burger is anything like that um obviously when she's become aggressive so she has to be taken down a flashing and then one of the other lads has been locked up for possessing an offensive weapon so that's two of them arrested now two of my streets now sir we know about him they live around here local lads and lessons from around here so they're quite well known so it's a good result really in huddersfield it's been passed on log that it's a rtc acting sergeant charlotte savile has been called out to a road traffic accident involving a police patrol car the officers are shaken but uninjured has it been pursued as the sergeant on scene charlotte now has important protocol to follow apparently they've followed the car down here the stolen vehicle and it's lost control so there's two males currently in the police car being detained and one of them's wanted for two offences and one of them is wanted for fire offences one of which is a theft of vehicle but they'll be spending the night in cells the suspects are taken to custody we've got to deal with it as a police rtc breathalyze the driver it has to be a sergeant that comes out to police rtc's and the officers are meant to be breathalysed at the scene it's a supervisory rule it's weird breathalyzing your colleague but yeah luckily they've always blown zero i didn't think i was coming to do this as charlotte breathalyses the driver police officers arranged the removal of the cars this time that i've breathalysed the police driver on his balloon zero brill do you reckon you were trying to get over the canal is that now work yeah it could have been a lot worse swap drivers get him out he's never just reversed into a lamppost now [Applause] [Music] at home in blackburn [Music] pc colette hindle is getting ready to begin her week of shifts with the response team like charlotte and jess she'll be working six days back to back starting with a late shift leaving her with just enough time to pick up daughter gabriella from school it's always quite a rush on these shifts because i got to do the school room before and um gabriella finishes school at five to three straight home dump gabriella the journey's normally about 10-15 minutes so um that gives me a chance to catch up with her ask her how she's got on at school just generally ask her about a day she has some tales to tell me [Music] you had a good day yeah what have you been up to um well netball wasn't up today it wasn't no that's rubbish well it was on but um because i was second for lunch netball isn't really that long i think you meant to go to netball straight away oh dear so did you actually get your dinner today yeah i did have you got much homework to do um yeah i left my spanish homework what did you mean you left it i left it at home by accident i think nana's got some lamb out you for lambda yeah yeah looks like i'm missing out on a good tea then i'll be at work probably eating some stale sandwich from petrol station have fun it's not easy because it's a very challenging job you've got shift work and i've also got an 11 year old daughter sometimes i'm having to turn out to an emergency and i'm 20 odd miles away from home and in back your mind you're thinking oh god because i've got to do the school room because kiss gabriella come on you always give me a kiss give me a kiss you're squeezing my arm right i'm gonna go right see you later love you [Music] after a long night charlotte has an early start to revise for her promotion board it's a job that she's been passionate about for a very long time it's always been in my head to be a police officer i probably did stem from my dad being a serving officer he did 30 years in west yorkshire so i always was interested when he got home asking what he'd been to and if he'd bobbing i'd always be listening to the radio i think oh what's going on so this was in the paper after i tweeted that i've got my dad's caller number he's had it for 30 years and it was always known as 19 17 and i thought i can't be listening to the radio and having someone else say no 1917. i thought no way i want that so yeah it means something to us both and it's nice that i can have that and carry that on if charlotte is successful she'll be one step higher up the ranks than her dad who spent his career working as a constable this week and well the weeks prior i've been working towards doing a promotion board which would mean that i'd go from an acting sergeant to a substantive sergeant with a week of shifts ahead alongside her board it could be a long few days for charlotte it is stressful and it takes a lot of hours to revise and i'm feeling the pressure now [Music] colette's shift with the todd madden neighborhood response team is underway she's been partnered up with pc friends later so i wonder what's going to happen tonight then we're going to mayonnaise because every time we work together madness in it they've been called out to a domestic incident [Music] they're not coming back in here so what's he got has he been locked up then a man has returned home from police custody after being arrested the previous day following an alleged incident between him and his partner hello just have a quick chat and then i'll meet you outside yeah give me a shout if you need me of course colette wants to interview the woman who made the 999 call whilst fran talks to the man who spent the day in custody i enjoyed it at least you at least you felt like you were comfortable and you were looked after in cells i will yeah yeah but we can't be back in the habit of it can we so we got locked up last night what happened with that he didn't get charged he just got arrested yeah but he's come back he's been shouting at me again he wants me out of this house who's um the tenancy agreement under back so how long have you two both been together for six or eight months i don't know what's it been like for six or eight months all right fair enough yeah so i'll come tonight i'll come tonight it's happening because what happened last night just oh god be [ __ ] compare shipped and what about your relationship what's the status of that he's he's just very angry because they've got him arrested involved you know he's just saying i don't if you care [Music] so if she goes tonight and she comes back tomorrow what's going to happen do you know are you going to try and sort things out yes okay right what's she like with you do you both get on normally normally yeah yeah okay she could turn shout the thoughts herself out yeah oh she goes away the main responsibility lays on us as police because if other services can't help those people they kind of pass the book to us so ultimately it is our responsibility you sometimes try to advise people on your own personal experiences what i would do personally is just leave him for a couple of days let him calm down and have a think yourself you know do you want to be in a relationship with him yeah i'm not how am i going to get another place you'd have to declare yourself homeless you don't just stay with him just because you've got nowhere to go and who are your friends what if i speak to your friend it's pc hindu from todd madan um basically i'm just saying with um she's having a bit of trouble with a partner so basically i'm just asking you know if she can stay with you just for one night on the sofa or something because she literally has nowhere else she's gonna be on the streets thanks bye right you can stay there for one night she said [Music] at least she's out of the equation for at night whether they sort it out and all that's down to them in it yep it is in bradford i am drinking coke zero at half of seven in the morning i don't care jess is in the middle of her last set of shifts before getting married mark and jeff if you go together with the beauty then remain in searching today jess and her team are due to raid a house after gathering intelligence which suggests it may be a cannabis farm the cultivating cannabis the intelligence says up to 200 plants was it 200 pounds apparently 200 plants and also class a as well um there's also intelligence that has firearms at the address we've got the warrant for it anyway so we'll put the door in and see what's there just be on your guard we don't know who or what's in there we don't know if there's any dogs in there or anything like that so yeah just look after each other if you want to keep up this raid is the culmination of months of planning this is intelligence that's been built by a cop that's worked hard to make it into something because without the intelligence we'd never get the warrant this is like an element of surprise but we've always got to think about who's in there waiting for you access to any weapons is there any dogs in there that are likely to eat you things like that so we have to be right quite wary about where we're going into and how we do it a lot of people have you know got quite a bad way in life and take quite a lot of drugs so we need to sort of get to the top of the people that supply them really because that is a real big issue of supply just get two down there just keep an eye out [Applause] peace always upset is that [Music] that's certainly one room it might be tomorrow so there's two rooms it looks like it's probably been here quite a long time and a lot just churned over plants implants out plants and plants out [Music] they generally mess with electric so we've got to generally be really careful so they'll have been bypassed and messed with so we can't touch anything now until electric board have come to make it safe we'll get our scenes of crime to come and they'll photograph everything and then we'll bag it all up and get rid let's crack on then jess and her team now focus on the task of gathering evidence it's good neighbor place in all right they're replacing its finest 14 15. that was disgusting 16. i've got right face for that then cut the wires put them down in the corner right let's do it the evidence may be gathered but for jess the work doesn't stop here i was meant to be going and picking some stuff up that i've ordered for the my bridesmaids and stuff and sorting my hair out and then i put my child up in between that as well but probably not now in hindsight i think you need a week off before you get married i think but never mind it'll be over soon in todd madden after two lates and two nights pc collette hindle is ending her final shift of the week with a difficult case [Music] a woman has just contacted the police she's worried about her ex-boyfriend and is concerned he could harm himself colette calls him straight away [Music] hey is that yes hey let's please indoor from topman yeah um do you know why i'm ringing i've had a call from your ex-partner and she's saying that um you've been sending the messages this morning saying that you're going to harm yourself right she said there's no problem you're seeing your daughter listen i totally understand where you're coming from and i appreciate that there's two sides to every story so i just want you to understand i'm not here to take sides i'm here basically just to make sure you're all right right well can i come and have a quick chat with you then and we can discuss some things about seeing your daughter it was my job my responsibility to find this male and physically see him to assess him and think is is he going to do any harm to himself or is he just something he's set out of anger right so if you meet me at halifax police station all right thanks bye bye in bradford and then you got it for blue yeah jess and her mum gail are off on a very special trip to pick up her wedding dress yeah i am brought my shells [Music] never mind it is what it is as well yeah she can't change anywhere could you ain't got time do you want your purse good morning i'm good thanks to you there we go that's it you've got it you're not breathing but no it's not right actually obviously once you've actually dinner you can let it go lay out of it [Music] beautiful beautiful [Music] they're grown up now aren't they not babies anymore you know especially when we'd be looking through photos to put on the table plan of when she were little and you see where's the time gone yeah it feels really nice it's good yeah i love it but nice for everyone else to see it so it'll be exciting i hope they like it yeah i'm sure they will it's finally d-day for acting sergeant charlotte savile i'm on route to wakefield where um i'll be doing my sergeant's board so it's the last process in the sergeant's promotion process it's not just today it's all a build up to it the time that you spend like missing out on family things because you need to revise for that exam it makes you really want it even more i couldn't have done anymore i won night just last week i've i've got up early after them to try and do that as much work as i can so touch wood it all goes up here today after months of preparation and a year of acting up as a sergeant charlotte is up before the board [Music] pc colette hindle is on her way to halifax police station she's arranged to see a man who she thinks might harm himself i've spoken on the phone and obviously we're concerned about his welfare he's got himself in a bit of a state he's saying that his ex-partner is stopping him from seeing his daughter obviously there's always two sides to every story so you've got to go in with an open mind my priority is that he's not going to cause any harm to himself i'm separated from my daughter's dad and you know it is important that a child is able to see both parents and it is something i feel quite strongly about but her thoughts first and foremost are with the man's immediate welfare obviously i'm here to check that you're alright yeah yeah she's making me feel like i'm going mental or something honestly right she's probably good in me and it's not fair at all so what you need to do is concentrate on yourself first right if you've got these feelings where you you feel feeling down um you know you've had thoughts to self-harm first thing you need to do is go and see your gp yeah and i know it's like there's a stigmatism around it anyway yeah i mean there is astigmatism around especially men you know they don't want to have to yeah men don't have to turn around and say i need some help but end of day we're all human and we all need help concentrate on yourself all right and then you can be a better dad then to your daughter and you can be the more adult one in the situation if she's kicking off all the time like you said yeah i'm not an angel do you know what i mean i i'd all get a bit irritated and stuff when she upsets me but that could be as a result of if you've got some like depression or anxiety that's why you saw highly strong you know take it from me um a person probably been in a situation like yourself um depression anxiety affects a lot of people like have you got any intentions of harming yourself no not not what whatsoever no not like i'm just making sure you are okay yeah so can i um are you going back to your mum's now yeah can i give you a lift there yeah sure because i want to make sure that you're with somebody yeah yeah hopefully you will make an appointment with your gp yeah yeah i will honestly it's the first step um i will right [Music] i always imagined as a police officer that i'd be going out there and catching burglars that's right right where we are but now it's a totally different role so most of the time we're actually going out there and acting as a mental health worker or a social worker we're not medically trained and i'm not trained psychiatrist or psychologist it's definitely scary i find it quite scary that there's that pressure on us we get a lot of calls with people that probably at an all-time low the struggling to cope and you know there's a bit of a cry for help like everybody else i think most people can say that they've had experiences with mental health in the personal life i myself for one have had experiences so i can sympathize with people that are at that stage in huddersfield thank you if you get a car i'll see you there charlotte is back on shift and her team are at full stretch it's down to charlotte to handle the latest emergency call-out ambulance have received a call from a train driver saying that he believes he's hit somebody doesn't want to get out and check which is understandable um a duplicate log has also been received by the british transport police saying the same thing but as it stands we've had no update regarding any injuries if it's fatal we'll just have to assess that when we get there i've never been to that kind of scene before where someone's been hit by a train so you get these visual images and you don't know what you're going to be faced with [Music] so i can see an ambulance i think the heart team are potentially here we'll deal with some severe injuries hey all right is there any confirmation of anything injuries uh last until we had there's a male now stood in front of the train he's not being hit or anything the man has been found by british transport police it seems like we've got mixed messages the train driver says that he feels like he's hit somebody and didn't want to go out and check and but btp are now saying that the males stood in front of the train so it was threatening to jump off the viaduct it was a big old railway bridge with a road underneath it 100 foot high i know that people have jumped from there in the past and ultimately passed away due to their injuries i don't think that anyone could survive jumping from that whilst the british transport police try to calm the man down charlotte's on standby to intervene if the situation escalates one of the btp officers has got a taser behind his back a precautionary measure if he makes any attempts to stand up and get on the bed or if he becomes aggressive with them so it sounds like he's aggrieved from not having help after his release from prison every day we negotiate with people try and make them see that it's not the right way to go that there is help out there it's hard to make them realise i think that's the frustrating bit that you want them to see that there is a better life and that there is people there to help when people do care but if they're in that mindset it's hard to convince them a busy train bound for the airport has been stationary for over half an hour and if the situation isn't resolved soon charlotte may need to step in he's shouting upset quite irate throwing his hands around so they're trying to edge towards him i've got him [Music] from here it'll probably be the hospital treatment rather than a criminalisation route it's getting help that he needs just some clear mental health issues eighty percent of the jobs that we're going to have got some streak of mental health issues running through them and you completely sympathize with them we're still humans you've got those sympathetic feelings we're there to deal with it it's obviously hard it would be for anyone with the british transport police across the safety and welfare of the man charlotte's released for the next call out we'll get them away from here for now okay [Music] pc jess graham has finally reached the end of her week of shifts i've got to the end of the set thank goodness obviously wedding on friday so a little bit of build up to that now so thankfully we've made it to the end and we're still alive it'll be hectic but it's exciting it's been a long time coming so yeah a bit lovely it's been a share of everyone so it's exciting out of office is on that's me and i'm done before jess walks down the aisle she's off to enjoy one last night out as a single woman sandbag's not very practical your car has arrived mommy's going now let's go down [Music] love you i'll see you tomorrow be a good girl okay darling see you tomorrow then you're gonna wear that window to mummy oh look at her stood up window [Music] hello thank you [Laughter] i just need a swollen thank you got some plasters right just in case your feet start hurting oh [Laughter] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's also the end of a long set of shifts for charlotte today she found out that her bid for promotion wasn't successful hello so she turns to her mum and former police officer dad for support it's quite difficult to get these posts because that many people want to apply oh yeah yeah the thing is with charlotte is she loves the job she likes to challenge she does have a really positive attitude doesn't she she wants to go places she wants to do things with it she wants to progress she'll keep trying and she'll do it till she sucks i think she's that sort of person that sort of personality i'm not gonna lie it was a blow up first but i've not lost anything at the end of the day i'm still acting up i'm still building on my experience which is all just beneficial for the future so yeah disappointing but i've got over it now and i'll just try again next time me personally i think she'll she'll do really well i think she might go up a couple of ranks and you get the rewards i think that's what she's doing in it my mum and dad's always been really supportive in whatever decision i make they will support me through the next part and are determined to get me through so their motivated to just carry on getting promoted is important to me i'm going to try again next time yeah you seem really proud perfect yeah very proud of you absolutely yeah couldn't be prouder i don't think she shouldn't get as many locusts as i used to get though [Music] in blackburn colette's celebrating the end of her week of shifts on a night out with daughter gabriella and how very rude i do like spending time like a normal family sometimes i have to say banana granddad and he's like i'll be back in the morning where is in like a normal person a normal child um which parents would do like a normal job and they'd be home to spend the night with them or something but because my own work shifts so it's harder for her i wouldn't be very good as a policewoman because i couldn't get up at that time i can't even get up at six i do sometimes get a bit scared because what about because like um someone might um hurt you or something but you've been in the place for 13 years now so i know i know that you know what you're doing oh you think i know what i'm doing yeah [Music] calm down [Music] there's two males currently in the police car being detained cut the wires put them down in the corner right let's do it [Music] you
