what is school for feel free to call me slow but I spent 16 years going to school and I still don't know when I finished I didn't know how to do my own taxes purchase a home or apply for a loan I didn't know a thing about investments building credit or getting a job I graduated at the top of my class and what did I have this is fancy diploma to sit at home with my mom but luckily they did teach me some important skills like factoring trinomials and how mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell I'm so happy I remember the Pythagorean theorem cuz it helped me a lot remember when you would ask me what did you learn in school today and I would say nothing much I wasn't being modest the truth about it mom is I had already forgotten and it's not just me millions of students sing the same song how many of you guys afford eye contact with the teacher to try not to get caught up on afraid to raise your hand for fear of being wrong which you have proved that school isn't an environment for learning or building up the intellect it's just a game when I guess what do you expect when the most commonly asked question in classes is this is gonna be on the test is this gonna be on the test see if school put learning and memorizing is the top standard it was really interesting not only is a pointless pain but it's also dimly as we get so much work but they don't teach the time management skills to deal with you see in school we are controlled by bells we have to learn and wounds with [Music] [Music] true education teaches you how to catch a fish school teaches you yeah you caught the fish but you didn't show you work so it doesn't count throw back I'm just asking what is school for it's not education that's just not true if you still think that you might be sniffing glue see the word education comes from the Latin meaning but the biggest seriously but do you order mac book or iPhone did you know they both were created by a driver are you watching this video on Facebook or YouTube doesn't matter which you choose they both were created by dropouts every new snapchat what's that stop that hold for twelve venkatrama does your home furniture come from Ikea okay don't get the wrong idea don't be a fool I mean how can you drop out before camp profound if IKEA never even went to school I know what you're thinking he's just picking and choosing this million successful and you're right but open your history books and start perusing you'll find the very people we idolize in school never really had formal and or secondary schooling I'm talking George Washington Abe Lincoln America's best presidents had zero school between them Ben Franklin Thomas Edison shall not receive Ernest Hemingway Mark Twain Teddy Roosevelt Margaret Mead none please I'm not singing drop out cuz some schools are great and many teachers are rare treasures I'm saying and there's a difference between people who are smart and people who score better I'm saying that your future is something that no tests will ever measure even if that test begins in three letters like sa da CT is PS if they say those determine your M I know your destiny is in your hands you must shape it to be great so don't expect school open doors cuz it's more likely to slam them in your face sometimes I wonder about all the dreams lost at school and how much potential goes to waste if it wasn't for music and you two'll then I would have been just another lost case everybody watching this please close your eyes imagine a child sitting in the back of his classes but some teachers principals parents advisors and students I like the videos it's good solid it's not it's not new information it's kind of like it's very old information right and it's related to a class right because school wasn't created for what he's talking about school was created for the Industrial Revolution school is created to make factory workers I believe in multiple intelligences I like to allow room for the students to grow and they will automatically I believe gravid gravitate toward their skills and their interest Prince EA has a lot of good points about how education system was currently run some of the courses are just meant to be hoops that you jump through but I do believe that you know we do teach the a lot of these skills even though directly you know you don't remember how to do you don't learn how to do taxes or figure out how to do a mortgage but by being able to go through some of these hoops you learn to actually jump through those hoops that we need to get to do more it's actually very important to me for that child at the back of the room that doesn't get called on and could very well invent a cure could write a cure for cancer we've got Beethoven he couldn't even here we've got Albert Einstein supposedly autistic on on the spectrum so there's a lot of famous people who made lots of grand leaps bounds but even he says you know the stuff that you learned in school you're gonna forget so even if we taught you how to do taxes and those kind of things you know you probably forget but I think a lot of the things that we're trying to do yeah there's some teachers that will just sign work for work for but those of us who are really thinking about our students will try to think about how best to help our students grow through this process and you know times are gonna be challenging and yeah there's definitely gonna be work but through all that hopefully you learn these things that's called time management skills what she's talking about but I definitely believe he makes a lot of good points kids want an answer in clarity like well it's not on the tech on the daily issue then why are we spending time on it miss Jo parents struggle with that wealth if the daily issues not on the pretest and it's not on like why are we doing it aren't we wasting our time so it's not it's not a thing to wear one segment of society can easily fix it it's about all segments of society right everybody would have to do it and what he's saying is really cool really brilliant I just don't know that we can get everyone to be on the same page with that I think that's a real giant
