Teach Your Dog to Greet People without Jumping

hello welcome this is B Walker with modern k9 services and in this video Jim is showing how you can teach your dog not to jump when he is greeting people you're just a ball aren't you you're just a ball of love oh my gosh okay hey yeah go you're good dolly so I'm gonna see if she's gonna jump what do you think Abby how would you think sweetie so I'm gonna bring up my energy I'm gonna come down to her level I'm gonna build it up I want her to jump the teachable moment oh and do that again for feet on the ground that's all I expect it's not a debate for feet on the ground I'll give her her attention but it's on my terms not her terms all I did was she jumps up I gave her negative I didn't say doubt I didn't say quit it I didn't see any of that stuff there's no command for these guys that say jump if you have a little dog you can have a command she doesn't have a command to say okay you can jump on me if you give them a command to jump you have to give him the command to get down I never told her to jump on me so I'm not gonna ask her to get down all right so I know life is terrible I can't go jumping and the whining this stuff that's fine okay she's not pulling that's our opportunity to pull him the jumping her verbal I don't like this it's cold it's hot I want to go it's who cares it's fine - pulling into jumping all we're working on are you just that's it okay when I say I'm done I'm done that's it if she comes off the ground it's a negative - negative again it's anything that she doesn't like mentally okay if some people go stop that it's a negative it's a correction anything that they don't like if they jump on you and you pet them it's a positive well hey I'm gonna jump on them again the leash is tight I'm even though I'm talking I'm trained now yet good girl the leash got tight and I backed up a little bit because I wanted her to make that decision you look good tall don't you now we're heading back to the owners going back to the owners is not a reason to pull on the leash I have the leash not the owner so I expect this quietness all the way up to the people if I'm walking up to strangers and they want to pet the dog I expect quietness all the way all the way up to the strangers just because they're strangers is not an okay to pull on the leash if she pulls on the leash I'm gonna stop I expect her to come back I'll get her closer to the to the people but she has to remain quiet all the way up to the people it's all about her and me not the strangers not the dogs not the cats not the chickens not the Ducks it's all about her and me all I want is that quiet energy just because we're near the owners doesn't mean she can get all silly all we want is quietness as soon as she misbehaves the conditioning is a good example as soon as I get the dad I jumped that's not acceptable behavior when she gets up the dad we still want this behavior there's children playing we want this behave there's a duck here we want this behavior we expect this behavior I'll walk back up to the owner and much better okay let me ask you pulling it's the act of pulling not the act of wanted to go to my wife yeah yeah go good girl Lise gets tight and good girl there we go perfect always training always teaching always conditioning when she just follows you as a habit of just following you're still teaching but you just don't have to do anything you just you just expect it when she's walking and remember that leash I expect this lease to be like this it's not a debate I expect it lease gets tight good girl all this it's not about my wife it's not about strangers I had the leash that puts me in control so they're saying hurry up let's go it's oh good perfect distraction they're actually after the little Kip so all I'm looking for I'm gonna correct Abby I don't have I don't have Abby right now there we go now I have Abby all I'm looking for is for them to hang out here if I stand perfectly still I don't care what they do except for this now look at the energy right here one went over to this one said well let's go okay the energy is now on each other not what we're looking for if I stand right here good if I stand here and I'm talking Abby don't do that baby I know there's a lot of good distraction there's two dogs over here there's a little child over here they want to get involved in this is conditioning I'm standing here they're bored I don't care well they are the on hot asphalt No is it raining and no we're just standing here would you rather be in a sky kennel would you rather be at home okay it's okay when you stand here this is what you expect it's okay for them to look at the other dogs it's perfectly fine don't pull on the leash okay
