foreign [Music] located in East Central France Lyon is a thriving Metropolis with a rich historical and cultural history tourists coming to the city have a lot to see but also to taste as Leon is famous for its food Leo has the reputation of being the capital of gastronomy here in France which makes it arguably the capital of gastronomy in the world join us for this French connections where we take a bite out of Leon's food culture to unlock the secrets of the city [Music] you are [Music] every self-respecting French town has at least a few Food Markets but Leon really takes it to a whole other level well food is King in Leon so it's hard to miss some of the many food courts that there are around the city like here at the aldoches for more on him later [Music] we're here with Claire vika you're an official tour guide here in Lyon what are some of the Specialties we find here so you will find lots of sausages here in Lyon one of the most famous dishes is called Sushi Son de Leon this is usually prepared with pistachios and served with a Beaujolais Beaujolais wine we have also like kernel you know she'll leave the dumplings and for the pike dumplings this is a another main specialty that we can eat really everywhere and lots of tribes as well are awful are very typical we have a very simple type of food and a lot of it has to do with the geography of Leon the city has been seen as kind of a Crossroads between the North and the South how is that reflected in the local food yes exactly you are right has a very central location this is how our city is regarded as the capital city of gastronomy we are very close to the Brass we have the poultry the pulido Press comes from we have also the wines different sorts of wines coming from the Beaujolais so if you travel for around one hour around Lyon you have all this great variety of food and Specialties as well and a lot of these Leon Specialties can be found in a typical kind of restaurant here in Lyon it's called and you're actually going to take us to visit one now yes exactly I would like to show you that's very typical place so let's cover together [Music] we're here at Daniel edeny's a typical Bouchon in Lyon how is a Bushnell different from a fancier French restaurant is first of all a small place as you see tables are very close to each other so people like also talking to each other so that's a very convivial atmosphere if you look also at the decoration that's part of the authentic version and so what are some of the typical dishes that you'll order in a bushel so you will find usually LA canel with dumplings and the pike dumplings we have also for the sausage but also the oval as the the calves had the wheels header and the tablet supper which is a part of the stomach of tell us about that yes exactly it was during the beginning of the 20th century we had those ladies called merliones by marvelous from Young they brought a new way of cooking very elaborate way of cooking so they were usually those lady first of all taking care of the kids of the feminist they were cooking for the bourgeoisie and then they open their own restaurant so they were very generous women they were also the restaurants were very convivial so it made Leon very famous during the beginning of the 30th and one of the most famous ladies mothers from Leon is here she had two freestyles UNESCO world heritage site Leon was also famous for being the birthplace of Cinema The Lumiere Brothers Louis and August are credited with creating the cinematograph and shooting the first movie ever in Lyon these days Leon was France's third largest city after Paris and Marseille but it's the second biggest Metropolis recently it was declared the best city to live in in France it certainly is a foodie Heaven There are more restaurants per capita than any other place in France a good time to visit Leon is during the traditional Festival of Lights which runs four nights starting on December 8th locals traditionally Place small candles in their windows but the city also puts on a mind-blowing light show it's a spectacular way to discover the city [Music] Leon's most famous Native Son Of course is SuperStar French chef Paul bokuza The Man known as the god of French cuisine became world famous thanks to his top-notch restaurants and also his new red Cuisine which was a more varied and healthier version of French food Paul bocus lent his name to a culinary Empire including a cooking school an international Chef's competition and several restaurants including the michelin-starred Pablo Cruise restaurant where we are now now put bukus passed away in 2018 but his Spirit lives on here today in this family-run restaurant which is almost 100 years old thank you oh yeah [Music] fruity one you can get some ones which are elegant on with some finesse something more rustic more strong with the Run Valley so there are plenty of choice so a lot of wines that come from around the Lyon region what is it about the region that makes the wine so good only one ham there is the ground the soil I mean around the climate on the one hand on the other hand there is a the work of the winery and so a lot of our viewers might be familiar with Beaujolais Nouveau which is one of the most famous of the young wines that celebrated here in France on the third Thursday of November it has Die Hard fans in France and abroad some people think it's just disgusting do you think it's just a marketing stunt yeah that's really disgusting I think at the beginning it was made to make Beaujolais famous in France first next all around the world but it was good at the beginning but now we've got some crew in Beaujolais which are much more better and we should forget about it and Leo actually has its own bottle it's called what's so special about it the stuff which is very special is the base which is pretty sick glass yeah you know there are many reasons first people in the bush on the typical restaurant of Leon where putting the bottles like this on the on the table so it needs to be pretty good sturdy yesterday yeah these are many Arena we don't really know what is the Real the
