Hi, so today, I'm making a video
a little different from usual As you saw, I came out of my house. In fact, I have to take a plane
so I thought it might be a good opportunity
to see useful vocabulary. So I invented a new concept. It is called A mix of vlogs, these little daily videos, and vocabulary. That's it, I hope you'll like it, and at the end of the video,
I will tell you where I am going, and especially why I'm going there. So, I often tell you that
to learn a language you have to get out of your comfort zone, that we must always find new challenges, new things to do to try to progress,
to improve our level, and in fact, that's something
which is valid in everything we do. And incidentally, that's exactly what
I am doing now. For me, filming myself
in the street, talking to the camera, it's a bit of a weird thing, but the advantage of living abroad is that people around me
do not understand what I'm saying. So that's it, they can just think that
I am a crazy Frenchman who speaks alone and it does not matter. Really, what I want to do is offer you a little different format. So I hope that by making
this first video, it will give me courage
and motivation to try new things
and experiment a little with videos on this channel. So I'm lucky because there is a train station right next to my house, and at this station, there is a train
that goes directly to the airport. It takes about
20-25 minutes. So I can go from my house to the airport in 45 minutes maximum. It's really handy. It's a lot easier than
when I lived in Paris. It's a bit of what I like in Warsaw too. It is this possibility to move more easily, not always queuing, not having to wait, etc. It's a big advantage. Well, I'll try anyway
to not be late because of these vlogs. I will try to not
miss my plane. That's a pretty useful verb,
the verb "rater." (to miss) I already told you, but we can use it for an exam, for example. It's the opposite of doing well, and we can also "rater son train" (miss the train)
or "rater l'avion" (miss the plane) if we are late. So here, it is around 6:00pm 6:00pm, in Poland is rush hour. In other words, the time when there is a lot of people taking public transportation because that's when people leave work. that's a good expression,
"l'heure de pointe" (rush hour) In general, it's in the morning, when people go to work and in the evening, when they finish. But despite rush hour,
there are not many people on the train. Again, it's really
something nice, something that I appreciate. You see, there is plenty of room everywhere. So the train is almost empty. It's really cool because
it's perfect to do these vlogs. I can speak without having
people watching me. So here, I think it's
a good first experience and a good playground
for practicing. Okay, we arrived at the airport, and I'll take the opportunity to make, right now,
a small pronunciation point because I know that word
you sometimes have problems with. Sometimes I hear students saying Practice repeating this word
because we have to use it quite often. So I repeat again So, the first thing to do when we arrive at the airport obviously is to look for your gate on "le panneau d'affichage" (display panel). So "un panneau d'affichage,"
you understand is a screen on which we can see the departure and arrival times of different flights and also "le numéro de la porte" (gate number). "La porte" (gate), of course, is the place
where we go wait for our flight. My flight is one that is
on this screen. Okay, the names are in Polish,
but I will let you guess
what city it is. It's not very difficult, and we can find it right away. So then, a second important vocabulary point is about "les valises" (the suitcases). When we take the plane, we can
have "une valise" with us "en cabine" (in the cabin), and another that we will leave
in "la soute" (cargo hold) of the plane. And what you have to do is register it at "espèces de caisses" (counters) as you can see behind me. So, today,
I have no checked baggage. I travel light so
I do not need to go there. But if you're flying in France,
you will know how we say "un bagage cabine" (a carry-on bag) and
"un bagage en soute" (a checked bag). Ok so now,
I must pass the security. We do not have the right to film there so I will not show you I do not want to have my camera confiscated. I have no forbidden objects on me
so normally there is no problem. I will pass the security, and we will meet up right after. Ok, security is done. There was no problem, and most importantly, it made me think of
an interesting verb, the verb "fouiller" (to search). "Fouiller", like here at security,
it's when you inspect a person to see what they have in their pockets, to see what stuff someone has. And here, it's me who was searched. The police officer searches the suspect
and the suspect is searched. Well, I'm on time. I have a lot of extra time, by the way because my flight was announced 45 minutes late. It's not surprising. It happens very often
with this company. I will not mention their name because I do not want to
give them bad publicity. But here it is, not the
most punctual company in the world But it's not a big deal. It gives me time
to talk to you a little bit more. maybe to help you see
this beautiful airport in Warsaw, Frederic Chopin Airport. I will go wait for "l'embarquement" (boarding) "l'embarquement", you understood this is the moment when we go
in the plane. this is called "l'embarquement". I will go to my gate and I will wait
for them to open the plane for boarding. So, right now,
I'm trying to film a plane that is landing, but unfortunately,
I'm not at the right place. The verb "atterrir" (to land),
it means that a plane comes to the ground. And you can recognize, by the way,
the root of this verb. It's the word "terre" (earth). So it's like in English with the verb which is also a noun (land). In French, when a plane arrives on the ground we say "il atterrit". and the opposite,
when the plane leaves, we use the verb "décoller" (to take off). We say that the plane takes off, literally. That it leaves the ground. You probably know the verb ""coller" (to stick). Well the verb "décoller"
is the contrary. when the plane leaves the ground. What I love to do when I fly
is listen to podcasts, including podcasts in Polish. This is something I always recommend you do to learn a language It's a very, very good tool
to improve your listening comprehension. We can find podcasts on
lots of interesting topics. Of course, it's a little difficult sometimes to find podcasts adapted to our level. I hope you know of mine, my innerFrench podcast. If you've never heard it before
I encourage you to do it because it's a podcast that's made for people who have an intermediate french level. And that's it, I think you might like it. Voilà, we've just landed with a little delay unfortunately. So it's the end of the surprise. I will tell you where I am. I think the most insightful of you
have already guessed. I'm in Paris. I will spend a few days here. I will spend the weekend here. In fact, it's not really
for the holidays, but because I started working on my next class, my next program. And in this program,
there'll be a lot of conversations,
interviews. The goal is really to help you understand
French conversations, authentic conversations. So here, that's what I'm going to do
this week-end. I'm going to film all that, and I'm going to enjoy it, and I might also film some images of the city and show you a little bit of that to show you what I'm doing. And here, I hope you'll like it. So now,
the next step is to recover the suitcases, and I have no suitcase in the cargo hold, so I have nothing to recover. That's a very useful verb,
the verb "récupérer" (recover). When you have left something or lent something to someone or somewhere that you will take back so that's the verb "récupérer" (to recover). I will go directly to the train to go to the center of Paris. I'm going to sleep at a friend's house. I hope there are still trains
because it's a little late. I think I'm going to stop filming now because the rest of of the ride is not going to be
very interesting. That's it, I hope you enjoyed it. I do not know much about the quality
that this is it going to give. But hey, anyway,
I hope you will enjoy it. If you like it, if you want more videos like this, tell me. In any case, I am very happy
to be out of my comfort zone and have made this video for you. And here, I hope I can do others
in this style again in the future. Thank you, and see you soon.
