[Music] System Shock is a classic firstperson action adventure title and it holds up well to this day as it came out back in 1994 you'll need a bit of patience as you work through this remake in a future space station that has been taken over by an evil AI Shodan has destroyed the station's Workforce turning them into mutants and cyborgs to serve at her pleasure as she attempts to use a giant freaking laser beam on the earth will your mostly silent protagonist save the day no clue but mine did and here's my Tale in the Xbox eror review of System Shock the year is 2072 you are an unnamed hacker who was caught mid job by the tri optium Corporation after being caught you're taken to Citadel station in orbit and tasked by a corrupt executive of the company to hack the AI Shodan who runs the place you're offered the implant you were trying to steal in the opening scene as compensation and then get knocked the f out after completing the job you awaken 6 months later having been put into a medical coma after being granted that implant but shit's gone sideways the station is overrun by mutants and cyborgs and more under Shan's controls there's a lot of robots too and it's your job to try and stop them all from using the station's mining laser on the earth she wants to destroy all of the major cities and declare that Shodan is an AI God the writing inv voice acting held up pretty well I mean the original game did come out back in 1994 and it's kind of hilarious to go back to it after seeing this beautiful Unreal Engine remake System Shock 2023 is damned pretty lighting and color is used to great effect to evoke the feeling of the original while modernizing it what hasn't been fully modernized and I think it's a good thing though is the gamep playay System Shock is of course played from a first-person perspective you'll spend lots of time looking at things to see if it's selectable in your face as you attempt to find keys and switches to progress through each level the game has a number of difficulty options which is hugely important as the game plays just like the original release on normal difficulty old hats who were used to games that seem to actively hate you so that they would take longer to beat will be used to how Bloody obtuse everything can be I did my original playthrough on PC last year on normal and had a blast I couldn't really do it again here though and I wanted to see what the easy mode could show just how different the experience was you'll start the game swinging a pipe before you find any ranged Weaponry all the combat's pretty basic and you are encouraged to explore and potentially find other Solutions on how to get past certain encounters based on your play style the majority of the game will find you dancing around enemies as you bop them on the head or picking them off from afar with shooting controls that unfortunately on a controller felt a bit stiff the game control is like a dream on PC on Mouse and key keyboard but I found the dead zones and aim acceleration settings to just feel a little off on series X I was able to adjust things in the settings and over time it felt all right but Halo infinite this is not a lot of this game is Inventory management with you trying to balance your melee in ranged combat as ammo can be scarce holding on to all your weapons at once can be tough but junk is useful and that you can choose to vaporize it and then sell that material to a vendor for credits those credits can ENT you food for healing direct healing items Buffs ammo and guns a lot of it feels a little rudimentary now but trust me all of the systems were mindblowing back in 1994 and they hold up well today because they're just they're smartly done this remake took a while to come to fruition after a successful Kickstarter originally it was going to be a faithful remake then it turned into a reboot SL new game and then it came back to being a faithful remake as a huge fan of the original I think they nailed that final goal while this game obviously looks way better than the original it still feels like System Shock to me the majority of your playtime is going to be in the real world but their take on the cyberspace levels look awesome and the UI fits together really well along with the colorful nature of the station's lighting which gives it that creepy future Ambiance that matches showan in all of her weird ass Glory as stated before the writing and voice acting still hold up most of that that story is conveyed through either audio logs or notes that you'll find about the station or through radio broadcasts directly to the player you are a silent protagonist though you will hear your masculine or feminine character grunts based on who you chose at the beginning and yells of pain during combat I had no major bugs with this port which is a nice change for my time on PC last year where I had a lot of hard crashes when it launched but things have been working perfectly on series X with quick resume being of great use wrapping things up System Shock is an all-time classic and this is by far the best way to experience it night dive Studios have followed through in their promise and delivered a full remake that gets what made the original so special [Music] [Music] [Music]
