hi everyone my name is jesuit and today i will show you how to make these mother's day themed sugar cookies first we'll need to create the sugar cookie base and for this you will need the following ingredients 3 4 cup of unsalted butter 3 4 cup of granulated sugar 1 piece of medium sized egg 2 1 1 3 cup of all purpose flour sifted 3 tablespoons of almond flour or almond powder half a teaspoon of baking powder half a teaspoon of iodized salt or fine salt and half a teaspoon of the perfect palate flavoring so first we need to create the cookie base so this is how you make them first is we put the butter in a mixing bowl and using the paddle attachment of the kitchenaid cream the butter until it is slightly soft then we gradually add the granulated white sugar and continue mixing until the sugar is well incorporated next is we add the egg at room temperature continue to mix this until the egg is well emulsified into the butter and sugar mixture meanwhile let's prepare our dry ingredients so in a mixing bowl combine all the dry ingredients together we have flour salt baking powder [Music] and the perfect palette powdered flavoring for this recipe i am using the wedding cake flavor also we put in the almond flour or almond powder into the rest of the dry ingredients mix well using a spoon and we'll add this to our cream mixture [Music] mix in all the dry ingredients into the cream mixture until well combined this should form into a soft dough [Music] once all ingredients are well incorporated transfer the dough into a cling film and we'll refrigerate this for about 30 minutes before we roll them [Music] out [Music] [Music] once the dough is shield we'll cut or divide the dough into two and we'll flatten them out in between two parchment papers using a rolling pin [Music] when rolling out the dough make sure you apply even pressure to have an equal thickness of the sugar cookie dough i like rolling my sugar cookie dough in between two parchment papers because this would prevent me from adding too much flour [Music] roll this to about 1 4 inch [Music] thickness [Music] [Music] [Music] now using a heart-shaped cookie cutter cut the cookie dough into several pieces [Music] [Music] take off the excess dough and set this aside you can still reuse this dough to create more sugar cookies [Music] transfer the sugar cookie dough into the baking sheet lined with silicone mat or you can also use a parchment paper [Music] now we bake the sugar cookies in a oven preheated at 350 degrees fahrenheit for about 10 to 12 minutes [Music] meanwhile let's prepare the royal icing using the royal when you've made your royal icing using the royal mix thin this icing into a flooding consistency using one teaspoon of water at a time [Music] [Music] the perfect flooding consistency of the royal icing for me is that the tail should dissolve in about 6 seconds [Music] please take a look at the consistency of the royal icing on this video [Music] once you have achieved the right consistency for flooding you can now color your royal icing base [Music] to flood the cookie base you will need a piping bag fitted with tip number two first thing is to outline the edges of the sugar cookie using the royal icing with a floating [Music] consistency [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] once you've completed the outline use the same icing in the piping bag to flood the center of the cookie [Music] using a scribing tool stretch out the icing to fill the gaps [Music] [Music] [Music] after flooding the cookie base with royal icing set this overnight to dry [Music] meanwhile let's prepare the royal icing decoration so for this we'll be making cherry blossom royal icing flowers for this you will need a stiff consistency royal icing using the royal mix first we attach a piece of parchment paper into our flower nail and for this royal icing flower you will use tip number 102 from wilton for a royal icing cherry blossom flower you will need to pipe five petals of equal sizes [Music] using a 45 degree angle with tip lightly touching the surface of the flower nail pipe royal icing to fan out and drag the tip down flower piping is a skill that needs patience and practice let these flowers dry overnight now let's assemble our mother's day themed sugar cookie so to attach the flowers into the cookie base we need royal icing for this i'm using green colored royal icing as i will be also using it to pipe our leaves [Music] using the same icing with the tip number two pipe leaves in between the royal icing flowers [Music] using royal icing that has a stiff consistency pipe the stamens into the royal icing flowers using tip number one or tip number two [Music] [Music] using the same tip that was used to pipe the statements pipe an outline on top of the surface of the sugar cookie [Music] using tip number two and medium stiff royal icing pipe the word mom into the cookie [Music] [Music] [Music] lastly we will highlight the wording on the cookie as
