all right so I'm making this video for youtube hopefully it's a little informative if you're having an issue with low headroom on a garage door just want to encourage you it can be done this is the most extreme situation I've ever encountered for a garage door I did a lot of research on this so I put it in a 7-foot tall 8 foot wide door on this flat roof garage as you can see it's it's pretty it's pretty low so let me open it up and show you guys how I did it opens up for this moves all right so as you can see here's my rafters hard to see there but my rafters are trying to remember what the height of them are I brought up my tape measure put my rafter height from the ground to rafter 87 87 my header here I got my header at it's a little below 87 7 feet is 84 so that's your reference at the lowest point when this door travels up I have a quarter inch of clearance between the door and one of the rafters I believe it's the second draft right here I can when it's when it's done moving up I think I have about an inch but during its travel there's about a quarter inch between it so you may be asking how that is how did that do this how that get a rail up there to open my garage door so here's the setup my garage door opener is mounted quite far back here's the rail runs over here and it's mounted here and then I use this piece of 1 inch square steel as a linkage between the opener I made this I shortened the J bracket there to attach it and then it runs over and attaches to the garage door normally there let me close it up and show you guys how it works [Music] so rear torsion setup I've got my spring on one side pretty standard [Applause] but basically since I have no Headroom here I couldn't mount the rail above it so I had to come up with a moving linkage I use the super Sneaky brackets and that's about it you can see the clearance between the rafters and the top of the door I have probably this space right here I have about maybe two and a half inches there about two and a half inches well whatever I guess it would be three inches eighty-four already my 87-84 since that but I use the old fairly that's probably by a 16 inch thick steel and then just through bolted it right to the thick steel brackets there's no no issues here torsion bar knotted up to ice I use some metal bracketry and some wood bracketry it's really not that serious everything I work construction so anything that everything's secured well nothing's in the fall it's all security studs all that but anyway you can see the clearance between my rail and the rafters pretty minimal I can fit my hand in there but that's about it and that's the setup so everything on YouTube so far you've been able to mount the rail above this I got a quarter inch of clearance you can not mount the rail so the garage door place that I couldn't do it everyone said I couldn't do it but actually my grandfather came up with this idea and it's pretty genius hope it helps someone
