you know it was probably on a night just like tonight dark in the sky maybe even birds chirping but there was some women that had followed Jesus and they wanted to love on his what they thought was lifeless body they probably couldn't rest for their desire to minister to him the way he had ministered to them but it might have been that they could not rest and what up early because what an amazing and yet confusing week it had been it was just days earlier where he rolled triumphantly into Jerusalem and people laid palm branches and cried hosanna in the highest but that would soon shift and Jesus would find himself in an up and down week that we call Passion Week he would go to Bethany and see a fig tree that attempted to mock him cursed that fig tree leave come back cleanse the temple he he had a week he would have his final meal with the twelve that he had chosen at that very meal one of the ones that he had called Judas betrayed him he would leave from that meal he would eventually go on into the garden and and be taken into custody this was our Lord take it into custody and then over the next day or two he would go through unlawful trials and they would be so cruel to him they would eventually bring him to the point of crucifixion where they would rip the beard out of his face where they beat him until it was hard to tell what he was and if all of that was not enough he had to carry his own cross it was such a pitiful citement some other women who had lined the streets when they saw him and they were crying and he stopped in the middle of carrying his cross and say don't weep for me he did all of this for us and then they marched him up a hill and they crucified him in between two thieves they indented to embarrass him and to throw shame on those that followed him with that cross but you know we don't see it that way we recognize the love that he showed for us in the pain that he took on that cross so to many it was despised to others it was an emblem of shame but to us we will cherish the old rugged cross it was the place where he proved his love the old [Music] far away [Music] for a world [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh Jesus [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] ah [Music] [Music] someday to my home far away [Music] I will clean [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] it was still dark when the ladies that had been following Christ came to the tomb whirling in their mind were questions but I think the predominant feeling was they came to the tomb to love on his body they came to the tomb with spices prepared to reciprocate the love that he had shown to them and I began to think of what it must have been like the darkness of night with such a hard week the week prior and what I recognized was it's just like it is now what do we do in a time where we can't see Jesus physically and yet everything in our world is changing how do we posture ourselves when it seems as if everything's out of control with kovat 19:00 looming above not just our nation but the entire world how do we carry ourselves I believe that we can find the answer if we listen to the staff physician that Jesus kept with him by the name of Luke in Luke chapter 24 it says now on the first day of the week early in the morning they and certain other women came to the tomb bringing spices that they had prepared but they found the stone rolled away they went in they did not find the body of Jesus and it happened that they were greatly perplexed about it and there were two men that stood by in shining garments and they were afraid watch this and the angel said to them why do you seek the living among the dead he is not here He is risen Oh watch this he is not here but is risen remember how he spoke to you when he was in Galilee saying the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and crucified and the third day rise again and here's the thing that just made my heart leap and they remembered his words here's the thing in a time like this we have to remember God's Word you know those ladies came to the tomb they came first of all out of allegiance not anticipation and that's really significant because it meant they were doing it they loved him and they wanted to reciprocate they wanted to say you know Jesus I know what you've done for me and so they were there they didn't come really expecting him to be alive or they would not have brought the spices so they came because of allegiance not anticipation and they came secondly because of a habit not necessarily hope and in it's something I believe that can be something we can parallel because sometimes we even go to God go to where we think he is and we just do it because hey I'm supposed to pray in the morning hey I'm supposed to pray at night but we're not really expecting that moment of Prayer to be life-changing I believe that's what happened I believe they came out of habit because it was customary to apply spices to the body of someone that's cared about but I want you to make note of what the angel told me he says he's not here he's risen just like he said he told you before that he would be taken into the hands of sinful men and crucified and he told you he was gonna rise again this is the crux of our faith and my question for you this morning what do you do if you're like those ladies and you go to where you think Jesus is and he's not there how do you handle it when you go out of Allegiance you go out of habit you go to the last place you saw his body moving and he's no longer there the last time they saw him moving he was dying he was being sacrificed so that they wouldn't have to go through something what do you do when you're saying Jesus I thought you would keep me from going through covert 19 I thought you'd keep me from going through a financial hardship and you go to where you think he is and you don't see him well the Angels tell us what we need to do we need to remember his words there's nothing new that he needs to say remember what he told you and the first thing he said is he said I will rise again and that's what the Angels told him he didn't they didn't take time to say remember he said be of good cheer that comes later remember that he said you would go through tribulation but he's overcome that would come later he said what you need to hold to first of all is Jesus told you he would be crucified and he told you he would rise again why is that so significant Jesus had said to them I come to give my life as a ransom for many Jesus had told them the same way that Jonah was in the belly of the fish so the Son of Man will be in the belly of the earth and in three days he'll rise again he said if you tear down this temple in three days I'll raise it up he continuously told them he says look they're going to kill me but death will not be able to hold me I will rise again and we've got to remember that he said that in advance because here's the point if Jesus could make good on that promise if he could make good that no matter what anybody tries to do I will rise again death is no foe to me death has no power in fact he would look back and have the writer Poe tell everybody that he said death where is your sting grave where is your victory you can't hold me and his promise to rise again is the foundation of our faith remember they went and made the sepulchre sure they said oh remember he told us he was gonna rise again we better block this thing off we better make sure that there's no way he can get out but how many know you can't keep God from doing anything when God wants to move God can move and even though they had soldiers there and there they were risking their lives to keep him in place I need you to understand that the stone still got rolled away and Jesus is still alive they tried to say well maybe we can pay people to say that the disciples stolen do you not know if they had ever been able to produce any proof of his body the whole Christian faith would shut down for the scripture says if Christ be not risen our faith is in vain you got to remember that Jesus told them in advance that death will not be able to hold me but I will rise again and when those ladies got there that morning though they came out of allegiance and not anticipation though they came out of habit and really didn't have hope they found a stone rolled away and an empty grave good God y'all better help me he thought they found an empty grave because he keeps his word and if you understand that he has enough power to let death know it can't hold him then I can hold to his words when he tells me don't be afraid of something when he says fear not I just need to remember what he said because he's not a man that he should lie you have to understand when Jesus came up out of the grave it was proof that our faith was solid he says this my blood literally this is what the Scriptures teach us that blood is total payment for our sins and you say well how would I know how do I know pastor somebody in my family as this Kovan 19 how how do I know somebody else has cancer or maybe you are approaching maybe the end of life on this side and you said how do I know that I can lay my head down and close my eyes in peace you can know that the sacrifice of Jesus to pay for all of our sins was accepted because God got Jesus up from the dead his resurrection is proof that God accepted payment that he made for your sins in for mine so when he tells you fear not or be of good cheer he's overcome the world that I can trust him and not be afraid I can go through every day and not even worry about it because if he kept his word about living again and rising again then he will keep his word he said lo I am with you always I'd never have to doubt it I never have to be confused about it he will always be there if he gave his word he will back his word up because the hardest foe anyone could face was death and he made a mockery of it when he rose from the dead I hope you'll understand this morning that he is not here but he has risen just like he said and everything that Christ did he did out of love for you and I so today you don't need a new word you don't have to run here there and everywhere out of fear you'll have to live your life steeped in frustration all you need to do is remember his words that's it faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God you just need to remember his word remember that the Lord is your Shepherd you don't have to want remember he said in the scripture fear not because I'm with you what did he tell the disciples in Matthew 28 he says look all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth he says so you go and teach all nations and you tell them about me and baptize them in the name of the Father Son Holy Spirit then then what does he said he said and lo I'm gonna be with you that's all I need to live in victory I just need to remember his words what is it that God has said to you just remember his words he's alive Jesus Christ is alive and all of my sins are now washed away because I put my trust in him maybe you're watching this and you say I just happened to click on it let me tell you something I believe God has ordered your steps in this mode have you ever accepted Jesus as your Savior the one that lived for you the one that died for you and the one that triumphantly rose for you you know when they got up I believe that they were feeling as I hmm maybe just maybe I wonder if as the Sun was rising in the east it would reveal that the Son of man had already arisen and the reality was he had and the angel said it best he is not here he has risen just as he said that's a reason to live your life without fear that's a reason to be able to be bold that's the reason we need that's all we need to live victoriously in this life until he calls us to the next because he got up from the break and we will one day be with him [Music] you have one love you you have worn it off and after not hold you are the reason you see that you are [Music] [Applause] [Music] you are [Music] [Applause] [Music] and because I can face because he Oh fear is because I know he holds my my life is worth the living just because [Music] you know the scripture reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we're celebrating his resurrection today we want to remember his words that he told us he would be delivered into the hands of sinful men and yet on the third day and we would say early Sunday morning he would get up and he did with all power in his hands you know the night that he ate his final meal with the disciples he said with great desire I've wanted to share this Passover meal he began to reveal to them that he was the Passover lamb with which they had been you know aware of their entire lives as the story of how God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt had been told to them they were well-acquainted with it but now he sat in front of them and declared himself to be that Passover lamb we know that his body was broken so that we could be put back together so that healing could be manifested in our bodies and his blood was shared to pay the total price of all of our sins when Christ arose he came and gave them the message that all power was in his hand and that he would be with us always but the issue that we face is remembering not allowing the darkness of circumstances not allowing the pain of experience not allowing the negativity of others to keep us from remembering Jesus because when you and I remember his sacrifice then we have value we know how much we're loved when we remember that he rose again then we're reminded if we can hold it in our arts that we've got power to face anything so today we want to receive Holy Communion it's a way for in its juice and maybe you're there and you say hey bishop I don't have a formal communion set but I want you to know if you'll take something a piece of bread a cracker some juice and say god I just don't want to forget the price you paid the power you displayed or the promise that you've given to me if you'll take that let's pray over it and then we're gonna receive it and as we do we'll be reminded of just how great while God is and his love for us let me pray over these elements father in the name of Jesus I thank you for every person that's watching and whether God whether they have a cracker or or a piece of bread or juice whatever it is God let it be sanctified that it would represent the precious broken body of Christ and the precious shared blood of Christ and we thank you for that now in Jesus name Amen so now would you do this on this beautiful Easter morning would you take remembering the price paid remembering the power displayed and remembering the promise that he will come for you one day let us take a knee his body broken I confess healing over your body and in this cup just juice but it symbolizes the blood the light of Christ that was shed for our lives of this cup let us drink thank you lord thank you don't forget his love for you don't forget his power and whatever we face in the days ahead he is with us and we will have the victory happy Resurrection Sunday and god bless you on behalf of my husband tourist myself the entire corner knee of family not just in Greenville and in Raleigh but all over the world may God bless you with power to live just remember his words [Music] you [Music]
