with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever a reading from the Prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah said I hear so many disparaging me Terror from every side denounce him let us denounce him all those who used to be my friends watched for my downfall perhaps he will be seduced into error then we will Master him and take our revenge but the Lord is at my side A Mighty Hero my opponents will stumble mastered confounded by their failure Everlasting Unforgettable disgrace will be theirs but you Lord of hosts you who probe with Justice who scrutinize the loins and heart let me see the Vengeance you will take on them for I have committed my cause to you sing to the Lord praise the Lord for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hands of evil men the word of the Lord in your sin entered the world through one man and through sin death and thus death has spread through the whole human race because everyone has sinned sin existed in the world long before the law was given there was no law and no one could be accused of the law sin of law breaking yet death reigned over all from Adam to Moses even though their sin unlike that of Adam was not a matter of breaking a law Adam prefigured the one to come but the gift itself considerably outweighed the fall if it is certain that through one man's fall so many died it is even more certain that divine grace coming through children of God questions the Lord be with you a reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew Jesus instructed the twelve as follows do not be afraid for everything that is now covered will be uncovered and everything now hidden will be made clear what I say to you in the dark tell in the daylight what you hear in Whispers Proclaim from the housetops do not be afraid of Those Who Kill the body but cannot kill the soul fear Him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell can you not buy Two Sparrows for a penny and yet not one falls to the ground without your father knowing why every hair on your head has been counted so there is no need to be afraid you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows so if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men I would declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven but the one who disowns me in the presence of men I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven the gospel of the Lord Jesus said do not be afraid of Those Who Kill the body that cannot kill the soul easier said than done of course even Christ himself prays In The Garden of Gethsemane to avoid the Pains of a persecutory death if possible no one in his right mind puts his hand up and volunteers for suffering if it is avoidable most of us are not enthusiasts for pain and suffering and do not either look forward to it or frankly readily embrace it when it comes nonetheless how we deal with it when it is inevitable or conscience leaves us no other choice is solitary in this week just passed we celebrated the great English Masters Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fisher on Saturday we celebrated the Forerunner martyr John the Baptist and today we hear from Jeremiah the prophet all victims in their time of the sudden and alarming shifts of philosophical and Theological weather in their respective settings who would have imagined that the miracle child John the Baptist the hope of many in the nation would end his days in the dungeon of a half-breed adulterer murdered the whim of a dancing girl and her vicious mother who would have conceived that one of the great prophets of Israel would for his services to the nation be imprisoned thrown down a well and chased into exile for his love of his country and his people who could have begun to grasp the lightning speed with which this realm went from being awarded a Papal Commendation a title that still ironically Graces our coinage FID death defender of the faith to the rapacious destroyer of the whole network of the Catholic faith and the State murder of its most doubted Defenders and heretofore closest friends in our own time we have witnessed the profound changes in what was once Empire the rise of militant versions of the competing religions of the East have seen an alarming rise in the brutal persecution of the once strong Christian communities wholesale Slaughter and the burning down of churches is not unfamiliar to the remnant of the faithful and they have been rightly alarmed and astonished to find that at governmental level they have now been largely abandoned by the now entirely secular post-modern states of once was what the heartland of Christendom within our own culture we have witnessed the gradual marginalization of Christianity to the point of almost institutional irrelevance instead it has been replaced by the organized forces of materialistic philosophies and this is no accident but rather the result of a long-term carefully planned strategy of internal assault by the various offshoots of Marxism for seeing that the Marxist experiment had failed to ferment the necessary revolutions predicted by its inventor and that it had failed historically to deliver the goods either institutionally or economically indeed it had led without exception to dictatorship famine and Death on a historic scale a group of philosophers the Frankfurt School inspired by the writings of a man called Antonio gramsi had put its money on what became known as the Long March through the institutions knowing that with a track record of monumental failure cruelty and disaster no one was going to democratically elect a new Soviet they decided they must win the battle by infiltrating and subverting the institutions what they described as the very Heartland of the hated Bourgeois power thus by 1970 I was witnessing this Theory being marketed by a man called Rudy dutchka read Rudy at the Cambridge Union debating chamber to Wild enthusiasm the new intellectual Elite Rudy celebrated the imminent collapse of capitalism and the Christian West this tactic has worked remarkably well as yourselves can witness as the process of governance is now more directed by the pressure of Lobby groups than by Democratic ascent and the most surprising institutions and corporations increasingly turn up on the side of the enemy rejecting the judeo-christian settlement that up to now has underpinned our civilization this process is at the heart of the identity crisis now afflicting the West well you may say politics is not the business of the pulpit but Pious ignorance of the terrifyingly costly consequences of the Triumph of the politics of evil is no longer a realistic option if indeed it ever was Jeremiah preached the word of the Lord with deepest political consequences the persecution of the faith is a daily reality in the political sphere and we must needs be aware of the tactics of the enemy if the gospel is once more to gain traction and be the go-to for salvation if we are not alert to this then no amount of synodal bureaucracy or pastoral reordering will do anything more than rearrange the deck chairs on the ecclesiastical Titanic politics after all is the practical application of what we most deeply believe so we need to know our stuff and to articulate it we need to know where to direct people we need to reassert what we stand for we need to understand what our history teaches and we need to know what the salutary values of the Gospel are and be ready to welcome people home we need to constantly point out the costly and cruel Folly of the materialist era and to call our people back to God if that means we have to suffer then we will at least be in the good company of the Saints and martyrs upon whose prayers we daily depend and whose example is our daily inspiration amen we stand to affirm our faith I believe in one God of the wrong place of all the things [Music] through him all things were made for us men and for our Salvation he came down from heaven by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary I became man for our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate if he suffered death and was buried and rose in accordance with the scriptures I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord The Giver of Life sins and I look forward we are God's beloved children and he hears us when we call for our Holy Father Pope Francis and all our Bishops that they may be ever zealous in guiding God's people Lords in your mercy for our leaders that they may make fair and just decisions for the well-being of our country Lord in your mercy for all victims of unfair discrimination that God may give them resilience and determination Lord in your mercy for all who are grieving that God will heal their pain give a new vision for life and restore their hope for the future Lord in your mercy for all Matthew Simon and Jude Linus Cletus Clement sixtus Cornelius cyprian Lawrence chrysogynist John and Paul Cosmos and Damien and all your Saints we offer through their merits and prayers in all things we may be defended by your protecting help therefore Lord we pray graciously accept this oblation of our service that of your whole family order our days in your peace and command that will be delivered from Eternal damnation and counted among the flock of those you have chosen be pleased oh God we pray to bless acknowledge and approve this offering in every respect make it spiritual and acceptable so that it may become for us the body and blood of your mercy beloved Son our Lord Jesus Christ on the day before he was to suffer he took bread in his holy and venerable hands and with eyes raised to heaven to your God is Almighty father giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took this precious chalice in his holy and venerable hands once more giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the Chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the Chalice of My Blood the blood of the new and eternal Covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the Forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith we Proclaim your death O Lord and profess your Resurrection until you come again therefore O Lord as we celebrate the memorial of the Blessed passion the resurrection from the dead and the Glorious Ascension into heaven of Christ your son our Lord we your servants and your holy people offer to your glorious Majesty from the gift that you have given us this pure victim this holy victim this sparkless victim the holy bread of eternal life and the Chalice of everlasting salvation pleased to look upon these offerings with a Serene and kindly countenance and to accept them as once you were pleased to accept the gift of your servant Abel the just the sacrifice of Abraham our father in faith and the offering of your high priest Melchizedek a holy sacrifice a spotless victim in Humble prayer we ask almighty God command that these gifts be borne by the hands of your Holy Angel to your altar on high in the sight of your Divine Majesty so that all of us through this participation of the altar receive the most holy body and blood of your son may be filled with every Grace and Heavenly blessing remember also Lord your servants who have gone before us with a sign of faith and rest in the sleep of peace grant them O Lord we pray and all who sleep in Christ the place of refreshment light and peace to us also your servants who those Sinners hope in your abundant mercies graciously Grant some share and fellowship with your Holy Apostles and martyrs with John the Baptist Stephen Matthias don't all speak at once yes okay 30th of June Parish American Bingo 6 pm to 8 30 at the Paris Center the last one was very good and we had a good time so if you can make that that's the 30th of June six o'clock in the Paris Center if you want to give any gifts to the raffle there's a box in the porch the other thing to say is on Monday evening and the bulletin it will tell you that Ruth Davis is giving her second talk on the Saints of the month each month she's going to do a little preview of the Saints of the month in the Parish Center so look out for that and if you can come and join us can I ask the extraordinary minister of the Eucharist to come forward please right I'll place that in the oh thank you Lord bless this is your 70 years between Jesus was in Need for his namesake amen anything of importance that I've forgotten thank you to all who came on Thursday night we had a really wonderful celebration and our guests the Monsignor Jerry Ewing and Canon Luke Smith were felt really welcomed and appreciated for all they've done in getting the author of the martyrs here so thank you those who are over to be there and for those who weren't for your prayers please stand the
