Not super related but, I bought a steinberger in January to play this song when school got out. Still hasnβt arrived. But this is my favorite song on the whole album.
Flip the comment I made about the guitar on βGet Up,β the Steinberger sounds good here on the slinky verse groove. Much more funk and jazz DNA in this song than most pop rock/metal. Good party tune.
This song RULES.
After 1984 came out, when I was 12, Van Halen became my favorite band. Then I swore off the band after Dave left. About 6 months after 5150 was released, some friends of mine were listening to it, and I actually gave it a serious chance. Walking home, I realized "Summer Nights" was stuck in my head. I've loved that era ever since.
Great song. Possibly my favorite off this album
Probably the most memorable on the album to me. The riff is awesome, although I think Ed overdid it on the effects pedals he used.
Great song. Great riff. To those who say song is βboringβ.... you probably were not around in the 80βs. Itβs like saying Jimmy Buffet is boring but youβve never been sailing or to a beach. Summer nights captured the 80βs, with a boom box blaring (cassette, lol), friends around a campfire.
Brings back such vivid memories. Sam had a gift to create a Polaroid in your mind.
This is a great song, maybe the best off 5150. Love that opening solo from Eddie, simple yet effective in luring the audience into the song. I enjoy the percussion, doesn't feel too overproduced.
When it comes to the lyricism, Hagar encapsulates the spirit of youthful bliss. It's not the most poetic songs of Hagar's run, but for the song's subject manner, I feel he did an alright job, especially elevated by his excellent vocal performance.
Eddie's great off this song too, I really love the groove in his rhythm, such a driving force for this relatively fun song. You could argue it's filler, but honestly it's so appealing I couldn't have 5150 without it. Plus, Mikey's even got some harmony in the chorus, the production doesn't skim over him this time, so that's a bonus! Overall great song, could've used a bit more strength in its lyrics, but it wouldn't be necessary.
Intro riff is alright, but song is quite boring in my opinion.
