[Music] hello and welcome to episode 116 of the stranded podcast my name is Amy also known as influence on robbery and this is a knitting spinning and hand on cookers from the south coast of England United Kingdom hello everybody it's lovely to have you here with me this week if you're a neat viewer welcome if you are a returning viewer welcome back I think I have got all my words in the wrong order but the sentiment is that lovely to have you here oh my goodness so alright a brief show outline this week so I could stay on track but who knows that's gonna happen fastly and I don't know how well these are showing up on camera so I may just be bringing your attention to something you hadn't noticed I'm probably not I'm aware some people watch the podcasts on like giant like 40 inch TV screens and their living room so if you're watching that you can probably see that my face is covered it looks like I have a scary disease I don't think touchwood I have a scary disease I have a face full of mosquito bites there are about 10 on my face including one on each eyebrow and three on my nose and there's one right here as well this is what happens I went to stay with some friends and their new flat in London over the weekend and it's quite close to a canal and full of mosquitoes so I was eaten alive in my sleep my face was the worst hit but I do have one on the bottom of my foot as well that is agony where if I'd been forewarned I have like 10 different bug repellents that I came back from Tennessee with after the summer of mosquito bites where were they when I needed them still in the cupboard here uh-huh anyway so I look like have a mild case of chickenpox but hopefully I don't although fun fact for you I promise this is a knitting podcast if you're any of you huh well we all know it's a weather podcast where the side side note of knitting I'm getting that I'm getting that but I I just I need to vent my mosquito bay anyway fun fact for you it looks like a mild case of chickenpox and I have never had chickenpox so hey I'm pretty convinced that chickenpox is what I'm going to die of I'm gonna get it when I'm like sixty and it's gonna be what kills me because I mean I feel like it gets worse as you get older chickenpox is a worse thing to catch I don't know my mom tried to give it to me as a kid by like mixing me around with loads of my infected friends that it just didn't work so either I'm immune to chicken pox or it is the thing that's gonna come and the common curry bother me and kill me anyway it's not a chicken pox podcast continue onwards though we're there because I know that's what you're all here for it's kind of that worst weather for everyone no matter your opinion on my autumnal weather we are having the worst kind of it today it is mild I was wearing a knit one and knit where I was wearing knitwear but it got too hot and had to take it off so now I'm just wearing a shirt with like a camisole underneath what it's November this is practically winter so it's really mild and wet and super windy outside and I live somewhere that gets really I went out last night for dinner not for anything exciting because it was Tuesday no one goes to burn the midnight oil on a Tuesday or any day if you're me and I nearly got blown into the sea it was a ridiculous anyway right so horrible weather face that of mosquito bites what his talk about knitting and I have some knitting to share I was gonna start with what I'm wearing because I was wearing something that my lovely friend I really paid me for my birthday but I've taken it off now so I'm gonna start with works in progress instead and we'll get to things that I received my birthday later thank you and by the way for all of the lovely birthday wishes for a robbery or an Instagram on in the podcast YouTube comments it was fabulous thank you for that and to everybody who sent me patterns I haven't had a chance and I will try and sit down but this week is crazy to thank you all individually but thank you so much you didn't need to do that but I really really appreciate it so I had a nice birthday it was very nice in spite of the mosquito but I did a small amount of knitting over the last week I have been very busy preparing for stranded birthday shop update which is this Friday and I will talk about towards the end of the podcast because I'm surrounded by like piles of yarn I want to share so nesting time has been a bit thin on the ground but I have got some things to share with you but I don't have any finished objects this week all of the projects I'm sharing with you are once you've seen before any new cast on zzx I haven't spent enough time on my knitting needles but starting with my Christmas socks the first of my knit picks Felisha socks in the jingle colorway is almost done so it's impound off all it needs now is a heel and then the ends weaving in so this is out of knit picks Felicia which is their self striping yarn in the jingle colorway and I did a 1 by 1 round a round of one by one ribbon every time I hit a color change leaving the bottom of the foot kind of just stock it up because nobody wants 1x1 rib on the bottom of their feet maybe D I don't know I don't so that is the first shot and I cast on the toe and knit this on the train on the way to London at the weekend of the second sock so I made a fair bit of progress but pretty happy with this although knit picks Felicia I mean it's great it's really soft I don't know if that's a good thing for a sock yarn but it is it's soft that's pretty affordable and it comes in loads and loads of colors and they switch it up really offerings over downsides that is it's really hard to get colors later on and lets you get them on a DS - this was given to me by a friend for my birthday last year and I don't think this is available anywhere and I know that last time I checked knit picks doesn't have any fleece sheet on their website however I have seen people using Felicia and having that stripes like suddenly change like the pattern go wrong in this so I don't touch wood again there's a lot of knocking on wood happening this week that's never happened to me however the second sock definitely has some speckles in the white that you can see this green one here there's a little red one there and there's like a few flecks of green yeah it's a bit hard to see on camera in the white on the back which which is fine in it in a hand I'd sake I don't think almost kind of fun it's a character but there isn't any in this one so it kind of looks like a second if I had died this I would sell this as a second because it's got specks if I'd probably keep it for myself but hey I'm sure it will be fine though just yeah just fun Christmas socks I've lost track of which number pair this is I think 22 for my Christmas box of socks you can see the box of Christmas sources just I'll have shot here next to my sheep mug and yeah progress is being made and I am hosting if you're an Evo I'm hosting the festive sock along in the arrival group for the podcast at the moment and we are the stranded podcast group on Ravelry and I will leave a link to you that and everything else that I talked about this week in the description box which you can find right down that so festive sock along is running until the end of the month and all you have to do isn't it an adult pan or festive socks you can just sell them to me for being festive are they a color that reminds you of ice and ice skate that Christmas or whatever do they remind you of a Christmas dinner or I don't know wrapping paper or you knitting like mistletoe socks or something that's festive wintery Christmas whatever so feel free to join any have until the end of the month to submit photographs of your finished socks in the TV finished object the red which is open in the referee group at the moon okay so jingle socks making progress making progress I'm looking forward to getting these finished actually cuz they happen on needles for quite a while I sent a picture of these two my friend Ellie and she was it just still working on those socks so turns out standing as a hater people you had it here fast she's not she's lovely but still I see you hating next up on my needles and I've left it in the middle of array so I'm just I'm just gonna finish that before I share it with you this got a fair amount of progress this week because I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody again which is something I do a lot on a huge rewatch of stuff and I have been known to go to the cinema multiple times to see films that I enjoy and twice really isn't a lot for me so I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody again with my mum on Monday and it was just as good the second time around and luckily there oh no mess it up this is what happens like I can knit without looking but trying to hold a conversation with yourself and knitting without looking is tricky this is what happens when you rush as well so Bohemian Rhapsody the second time round was just as good as the first time round there wasn't and not in my ball of yarn this time and I managed to get a substantial amount of this sock so I am working on my nomadic yawns thought this is the Yuletide colorway and I picked it up on a D stash and brought it back from Rhinebeck and all my trip to Rome but when I say that I'm using Rhinebeck stash or amusing SSK stash because Irene pulled me up on this I kind of just refer to the trip that I brought it back from so I I kind of group everything together and whether or not I bought it at a local yarn shop rather than the festival itself or I had it ordered ahead of time and I read wheeled it across country for me and I and I brought it back I still refers to it as Rhinebeck stash is the only way I can kind of keep stuff straight in my head I try again I try so this is nomadic yarns I don't know the base name it's her merino nylon face it looks like her 7525 superwash merino nylon and it is the all tied colorway I love self-striping socks they are so much fun especially like small stripes like these because they knit up so quickly and I did let me count to three for five so I was here before I went to the cinema and I met all of this during Bohemian Rhapsody so that's pretty good going and some of the credits because they have Freddie Mercury and queen-like live footage of them singing I think here's don't stop me now it is don't stop me now during the credits so I sat and watched that and on this suck so really happy with how this is knitting up this even though it's called Yuletide will not be going into my Christmas box of socks this is just too autumnal looking which is fine by me because it's really pretty and I bought it cuz I like the color not because of the name and I need more autumnal socks and more self-striping socks in regular rotation because my self-striping suck basket I think I've got space for another 12 pairs of self-striping before that basket is full so really like this the funny thing is so I bought this on a tease - and a while ago I placed an order with nomadic TV shipped to a friend of mine that I will pick up when I visit in March and one of my other friends was asking me what colours I bought and it went on to my HC page and I bought two orders and had seven skeins total and I was flicking through and I bought colors like the borrow and I think I got Sirius Black and no alex is amazing Harry Potter colorways just in case you didn't know and she is lovely I met her at Rhinebeck and she is fabulous and your tide was one of them so I liked it so much I bought it twice idiot Amy but still I don't know I will give it away to somebody at some point but it is a super pretty colorway and I still have a big chunk of the ball left I'm almost ready for the tote on this sock I think I'm gonna go until I am back at this red stripe because that's what I started it with so I've just done the red stripe and I'm on the green stripe by the man I've just started the orange stripe so I'm gonna go until I'm back at the red stripe and then knit the toe I think well obviously I'm going to tie at some point it's a sock and then I'll start the next one and these will get afterthought heels yes this will probably be my crimes of Grindelwald knitting at some point because that is out I think next week in the UK maybe few nays but that we can I'm driving to born not that you need to know what I'm doing when but I'm going to Bournemouth on a road trip to see a band because I'm that person so nomadic yarns socks living in this fabulous bag from my friend Heidi and progressing really nicely the last project that has seen any progress from me this week is my Lille at shawl by Susanna orthodoxy and I will pop hemming on the screen right now because I'm sure I'm angling it but this has now had three chart repeats and I am enjoying it it's fun it's the kind of place that I need to have the chart on screen I said I'm sitting with it on my computer screen so I can ex scroll up and see what line I'm working on like line by line otherwise my eyes can't concentrate enough and I read the wrong lines and chance my brain doesn't work properly but yeah it's the sword lace that I don't have to refer to you every single stitch I kind of do it's quite intuitive I haven't memorized the pattern there is no way that there will be memorization of the pattern happening but I am enjoying I've done three chart repeats I think I've got five left to go and I'm really interested to see what this is going to be like finished I'm hoping it winds up to be quite big it's a symmetrical triangular shawl and hoping that it's quite big and cozy so I can like wrap it round we shall see I'm gonna go I don't know I have a fair amount of yawn me show you the yarn living in my project bag so I had three skeins of DK weight so I think I had about like 690 meters maybe something like that so a fair amount of meter edge so it should be a decent a decent sized short when it's done and this is the Lee lecture by Susanna orthodoxy and I am using nesting at garage yards in the DK base Nadella meter colorway and I try to link these in the show notes last week but I can't find a link to the yarn online only the shop so potentially you can only get this in the store in Rhinebeck but I will I will link what I can find in the show notes for you but it is really pretty and I do really like and you know how I feel about this kind of grubby pink color way and okay the lace isn't showing up super well but it is pretty simple lace so I'm not overly fast about that and it will look better when it's been blocked but yeah it's gonna be a pretty cozy shawl so I'm enjoying that this is what I worked on yesterday and that is everything that I have been knitting on this week I did put a row on my granny stripe blanket which is the first time I have done that touch that project even for a while but I'm not gonna start sharing that every time I work on it I'm just getting a progress keeper in it and I will share it when I have made a substantial amount of progress a copy of weeks of progress just because otherwise you'll be seeing the same thing every week and it won't look any different so yes I touched it a barely made any progress but I did finish the row I'd abandoned and I think I might have done the next row or a might have few nice who knows I was named that the other night when I was too tired to think about anything else so a small amount of knitting has happened this week hold on to your hats because I have done some spinning this week oh my goodness so my lovely friend Laura challenged me to try and spin for half an hour every day she was like when he finished work just sit down at your wheel for half an hour because I was talking about using up stash from trips to America and I have a lot of fiber that's hanging out in my stash that I haven't used and I barely touched my spinning wheel since August so I finished spinning all of the singles I had a done two bobbins I had two bobbins to go I finished spinning all of the singles for my very first attempt at a cable ply you won't you really need to see one Bob it at these because they are identical so this is some hand dyed BFL silk that I died I think I died this in the summer but it just didn't I think it might have been slightly underweight or slightly raggedy looking I didn't want to put it in the shop so it went into my stash and I thought well that's a good thing to you practice on and I've never tried cabled flying before so I'm relying heavily on my Sarah Anderson spinning book for tips so all of the singles are done and I have plied the first bobbins I finished the first two bobbins of singles ages ago so they've been hanging out for ages and I thought I can want to apply these after I'd finished spinning at the singles so you can see that they're applied so it's just a two ply so with a cable play you spin for bobbins of singles all in the same direction so these are all spun in the S direction and then you go to apply them in the opposite direction in the Z direction which sounds weird because we don't say z in English it said but it sounds odd because I've only ever heard the direction of spinning wheels referred to by Americans so all people who say Z so I've been playing in the Z / Z direction so you apply your - to bobbins together in the opposite direction to the one that you spun them in originally adding a lot more twists than you would so you it supposed to be adding twice the amount of twist so it didn't feel very natural to me you can see how much twist is happening here it's crazy so what I know if I put too much twisting it but we shall see so you play two sets of your singles with twice the amount of twist in the Z / that direction and then you ply them - so I've got applied these in the same direction so we'll have two bobbins of then plied singles Zedd applied s twist singles this is this wire and do spinning videos I don't know what I know what I'm talking about but it just sounds weird coming out of my mouth and then I apply them together in the s direction and hopefully get a fairly balanced yawn we shall see we shall see but I'm enjoying it so far this project has been on the wheel since August and I'm very excited to see the back of it because okay it's pretty fiber like it's a fun kind of pink and purple and it's really nice to spin it's BFL silk really nice to spin but I have a lot of gorgeous fiber in my stash that I bought a beautiful bats and braids and stuff so it kind of feels silly to be using like I like my hand dyed fiber obviously I will have some in this week's update but I don't know I just maybe it's because it's been on the wheel for such a long time and all I've seen is pink and purple for ages but I am ready to spin something quick and fun maybe a fun but I have a lot of bats in my collection so who knows hopefully I will have these or at least the singles plied even if I don't have the both bobbins applied singles to fly together done by the next podcast because yeah sitting at my wheel is definitely helping me feel a bit more relaxed so I haven't quite made half an hour every day but I have done a good solid three evenings of four I've done I've done it four days at least because it took longer than an hour to ply this I always think applying is going to be really quick and it never s so some spinning has happened these are a kowax bobbins they are 3d printed and they are fabulous I will leave a link to a kowax in the description box and this is just the bobbin that came with my wheel this is a regular Schacht matchless bobbin it's just a shacked bobbin this is no different for the matchless so three spinning has happened so it was my birthday on Saturday and I was 28 definitely 28 not 29 or 27 death twenty-eight and I received some fabulous gifts from some of my knitting friends which makes me super happy I also went to yah Emporium as well and picked up some other bits and pieces I will share in just a moment I thought I would share the knitted objects first it always makes me incredibly happy when I receive NetWare because I knit a lot and I need a lot for myself obviously but I give a lot of knitted gifts away and it's not very often this makes me sound like I'm playing a violin so I'm not trying to get sympathy because clearly I have knitted things to share with you but I don't get given knitted things very often because I am the knit is like it's like when you take photographs all the time if you were the one taking photographs you're not usually in the photographs so I am the one bequeathing knits to people I'm not usually the one receiving them so it's really nice when that happens so when I was at a Rhinebeck a couple of weekends ago at my wonderful friend Irene who I got to see what I was there presented me with my birthday present and told me though it wasn't that open them until my birthday and she made me this incredible cowl and she'd send me some pictures from her working on it I was like that's a really nice cowl and it's in a beautiful gray and great isn't usually Irene's colour so so this is the I've written it down because it's difficult to remember the names of things that you didn't make this is the Mavis cowl by Melissa Thompson and it is fabulous it's got cables and it gets wider at the bottom so it fits really nicely and this isn't it out of plucky knitter trusty in the heart strings colorway and Irene thank you Irene's doing really good Ravelry project pages because like just steal the information off that rather than bother you for it but Irene has this lockdown as Browns on her project page this is this is definitely not brown this is like a grey maybe without hints of green Irene is colorblind look at all that orange has burnt out her eyes but this is really pretty I'm gonna put it on because I've cooled down and off now it smells amazing I mean whatever you brought this in it smells incredible so it's super cozy and fabulous and I've been wearing a lot in the evenings so Thank You Irene she knows I love her but this is wonderful and I also received two I love I'm not gonna put them on because my hair is even more ridiculous we're not tied up today so I'm just going to leave with that but I'll share the hats Willie so this is from a lovely friend of mine and this I don't know if this is DK I think it's DK or maybe Aaron and this is a fabulous slouchy beanie hat and it's out of yarn from truly hooked I think in the fireworks colorway or the firework colorway that is really nice and it's great with like pops of colors it's really fun love there's a theme I love gray this one is the dye pyramid hat by my lovely friend Tracy and I saw her working on this on her Instagram and it is super cute and I have made a couple of diaper it hats and we'll probably another one because I do really really like the pattern and this was in pom-pom Courtney I think it was in there whatever it was vivid winter I think it was a winter issue last year by Emily green and this isn't it out of the gray is stranded in the first frost colorway and the brightly colored stripes is the yarn badger but I'm not entirely sure the colorway name but it is really pretty so this is so much fun I love this giant fluffy pom-pom so thank you Tracy it is fabulous so I have the most amazing friends oh my goodness I just had to climb over a mountain of things to get hold of this bag one day I'm gonna have like a dedicated room to record the podcast in and it's gonna be amazing today is not a day I have a fabulous bag of things to share with you so I'm gonna start with the only thing that I actually purchased and I bought this back in September at Perth festival of yarn and didn't have enough space in my carry-on to bring it back so my lovely friend Ellie brought it back for me because she was gonna going on the train and didn't have the same luggage limit so this is a merino Aran sweater pack from die ninja and it is the color weight all about Eve I'm not taking out the plastic so you have to sort of see around the reflection but it is a wonderful kind of plum color and it's eight skeins of 100% extra fine pure merino with high twist so there is fifteen hundred and twenty meters or a hundred sixteen hundred and forty yards so I have no idea what this is going to become but it is beautiful and it makes me very happy and I don't really have any more space in my stash for sweater quantities but I'm a creep next up and I'm just grabbing things as they come out of the bag I have two beautiful skeins of yarn from my friend Tracy and the first is from the yarn budget and I think this is self striping it doesn't say but I know that she does self striping and this is super wash VFL there's no colorway name so that's really pretty there's 400 meters to 100 grams and this one is Tracy's own yarn and this is her Paul West DK in the umber colorway and I love warm oranges oh my goodness I'm gonna channel my inner Irene with s super breath deep next up is my very first skein of cozy Nettie yawn oh my goodness this was a present for my friend Pam and this is the back to business Holloway and it makes me super happy so this is super fun it's self striping they're contrasting mini skein this is her blitz base the back to business colorway and I am yet super excited these will definitely be socks so hooray Thank You Pam the mentioned Ellie from skåne dear nits and thus candidates podcasts gained in its designs gave me a sweater quantity of phenol gone or phenyl PTT to knit it particular cardigan I think it's the vowel doll cardigan I will put a picture of it on screen now it's beautiful all over color worked cardigan it's a steep project it is fun to spin at the top of my queue for a while and Ellie was super sneaky about this and she was quizzing me she acted like she was gonna make it I was quizzing me for what colors I would make it and I was like great of course she was asking me quite specific questions or a video chat a couple of weeks ago but I was working at the same time so she wasn't getting my full attention so Ellie is purchased the sweater Quincy of yarn for me because she's amazing and she's also translated the pattern from Norwegian because I am NOT Norwegian I didn't even realize the pattern was in Norwegian how much attention I pay for things so she has done an incredible job I haven't actually read it yet but she has done an incredible job of translating it from no agency English because she's an amazing friend and I'm super excited this is gonna be the project I work on in the new year I think I am super excited for an all-over color work cardigan I think it would be amazing so I went to yond poram at the weekend which was a yawn festival in London in Westminster and I think they have it every other year and I didn't actually buy anything what oh my goodness I think I was at wool saturation point after Rhinebeck and that's not to say that it wasn't beautiful things at yo Emporium I just I was kind of overwhelmed and I did a lot of just chatting to my friends and I bumped in some podcast viewers and I got to talk to you some of my friends who were vending so it was really really nice but I didn't buy anything a few people were kind enough to give me wonderful things so let me share those with you and I have been admiring this patent on my lovely friend Caroline's podcast Caroline is done Dannette on Instagram and she is the host of knitting of vicariously podcast and I meant to mention her podcast last week but I forgot because that's what happens when you don't write things down Amy so I recommend recommend checking out Caroline's podcast it is fabulous but she test knit this pattern and this is the voltage shawl by its sue Stratford and Sue is lovely wiebe and quite a lot of the same shows so I've met her lots of times she's absolutely lovely and this pattern is really really fun and she was kind enough to give me a copy of it so I'm super excited to make this I think it would be a really fun shop sample so who knows maybe I will get this on the needle scene but it is really pretty and it's an entire pattern I haven't knit in taja for years my lovely friend Gemma of the little grey girl knows me so well and she gave me a bag with little cats faces on so this is super cute I love Gemma's bags I have one oh I moved it out of reach when I climbed over the mountain of things but my nitpicks jingle socks are living in one of her fabulous pyramid bags absolutely love them they're my favorite kind of travel nesting bags you can wear them when you wrist and it kind of just dangled down and Leon sits in them really nicely so I'm a huge fan of Gemma's bag and she gave me this gorgeous cat face bag so thank you Gemma you're fabulous and last but by no means least I received this gorgeous skein of mrs. Claus from the lovely dusty dimples Siddis will grow up to be socks at some point hopefully I'll get them done before Christmas but this is her one of her Christmas colorways and it is super pretty so before I get in to your birthday shop update news I wanted to announce the winners for the retainer log I have drawn three winners from the nephilim finished objects slash as far as you got thread in the Ravelry group I want to say a very big thank you to everybody who participated in think whether you've finished or not in missing a retain sweater by Christina Donaghy is such a fun sweater and I've seen a few out in the wild now and it makes me very happy so without further ado I have picked three winners and excuse me for liquor I'm just gonna pick up my show notes but can put it in my lap that's a good idea so the first winner who will be winning one of these fabulous project bags from butternut hand-made and this gorgeous skein of yarn and I totally just misread the colorway name of this so this is from little stone cottage yarns and it is called golden after and it's a 7525 superwash merino nylon and I thought it was called golden oyster but I plucked this out of the podcast giveaway a basket because I thought it was really autumnal and pretty so the winner of these is host number five who is jazzy cat so congratulations jazzy cat I will send you a message on Ravelry asking for your postal address if you can let me know what that is and I will get these out in the post to you the second winner will be receiving this gorgeous a leather bag that my wonderful friend for Nuala has made and finola has just launched her brand-new bags in her shop Hyde and Hammer but I think they all sold out super quickly but I will leave a link to her website in the description box because you should totally check them out so you will be receiving this fabulous leather sock size project bag and these four really fun mini skeins from lamington lassie yarns and lamington last make my favorite mini skeins like semi solid mini schemes in the UK and they are pretty local to me so you will be receiving these congratulations to post number 12 who is Claire Mott so or Claymont I'm terrible at pronouncing things as you know but I will pop your name on the screen right now and I will send you a message asking for your postage address so congratulations claim art I don't know what's happening with the light on podcast this week a minute ago I was sitting essentially in darkness and now I look like I'm being lit up by an oncoming train which is kinda terrifying anyway the last we're not receiving this super cute meeting I think this is an interchangeable needle cozy or just a regular needle it's a needle coat like case anyway from a single strand studio and this really pretty skein of yarn from bear in sheep's clothing and this is her bear BFL socks it's 75% bfl at 25 percent nylon in the NYE color weight I think she died this especially for the Nottingham yarn Expo last year so congratulations to post number 39 who is Lola mix shambles so congratulations I will be in touch for your address so thank you to everybody who participated in the knit along it was really fun I know I have been kind of absent from the Ravelry group lately and leaving a lot of work to my lovely moderator Darci so I will try and be better as soon as I finished with all of the birthday shenanigans so I just wanted to mention before I get in tee shot update news that you can find stranded dye works in person this weekend at the magical fiber fantasy retreat in Florida America it is at Disney World so it's in the Orlando area and it's running from the 7th to the 10th of November so I recommend checking that out if you are in at the local area you can shop some stranded in person sadly I will not be there because I have to be here doing all of this shop update price so if you watch the podcast before you all know that I am the diet behind the yarn company stranded dye works if you haven't watched the podcast before now you know that running stranded is my full-time job and I'm super grateful to everybody who helped make that happen and anybody who buys yarn for me or support stranded in any way and we turned so I say we I turned 28 stranded turn three on Tuesday and I am celebrating by having a giant birthday shop update in the shop this Friday and I talked about this a little bit on last week's podcast but I wanted to share some of the things going into the shop and remind you of other things that will be happening as well and I'm super excited about it I am predominantly excited for it to be done because it's been all I've been thinking about that the last month or so and there is so much yarn in our house right now I don't know how my parents haven't killed me in my sleep but there will be a shop update on my website which is stranded died works.com UK and you can find a link to that in the description box and you can probably just google stranded dye works as well it's it's linked to almost everywhere and it will be this Friday at 7 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time which is UK time and buried under this pile of stuff I have written down some other time zones because I'm that person there are a lot of time zones it turns out so I recommend using something like Siri or Google or Alexa if you have any of those things in your life to tell you what and time zone the time difference is in your time zone oh my goodness I can't get my words out but I'm in Greenwich Mean Time so if you just search what 7 p.m. in London is in the time zone you're in I'm sure it will the internet knows things about things I don't know something about stuff the internet does but 7:00 p.m. GMT is 1 p.m. Central Time 2 p.m. Eastern Time an 11:00 a.m. Pacific time in the States it is 6 a.m. in Canberra in Australia so that's 6 a.m. on the Saturday and it is 2 p.m. on the Friday in Ottawa in Canada so I hope that helps you if not Google is your friend I am NOT an expert on time zones the only time zone I can guarantee tell you what time it is apart from my own time zone is central time zone in America and that is because I have quite a lot of friends that live in that time zone and we have group texts and regular text message threads and ID's FaceTime calls and stuff so I need to know what people are doing when so I don't call them in the middle of the night also I can - 6 that's essentially all I can do I can do that anyway this is not a time zone podcast this is a knitting podcast and this is the shop update section so if you haven't seen my Instagram thread or you didn't see last week's episode I will be having free international shipping in this week's shop update this is kind of a tradition for the birthday updates the third year that I have offered it and I am super excited about it I know that it helps people you find it cost prohibitive to buy yarn from other countries to try new things so free international shipping when you buy three skeins or more or spend 50 pounds or more not including postage obviously in this week's update with the code third birthday I will pop that on screen so it is the number three the letters are D and the word birthday no spaces all in capitals and you can enter that in the discount coupon code at checkout to get free shipping and that is valid for everybody no matter where you live from 7:00 p.m. on Friday night UK time until one minute to midnight on Sunday night and that's UK time as well and hopefully that I normally don't have any problems with codes and discount codes working in my shop I would really appreciate it if you could use the code it will make my life so much easier however if you have any problems or you buy yawn two different orders so you buy one skin in one order and then three schemes in another order I will combine it so that you get free shipping but it will take me quite a while just good to go through and refund people's postage so I would really appreciate it if you could use the coupon code because it will make my life a lot easier so that being said before I forget I am anticipating that orders from this week's update won't ship until the middle of next week normally my orders from updates go out on Mondays however and my packaging elves my lovely mum is anticipating firstly she has plans on Saturday her priorities are all over the place so they are hosting a dinner party so they're going to be busy all day what then a party that I'm not even invited to I'll just be sitting in my room making no noise pretending not to exist bonus points if you get where that references from so orders won't ship potentially until the middle of next week so there will be a slight to today because I'm hopefully anticipating quite a lot of orders because I have died quite a lot to be on so I think that's the admin side of that done the first 50 orders will receive a one-of-a-kind mini skein and I have three colorways of mini skeins that I will be popping in with the first 50 orders so I have this like turquoisey teal one this fun speckly pink and this kind of fun purple with orange speckles so these will be going in one per order for the first 50 orders from 50 separate individuals oh my goodness so many things I can understand now why terms and conditions pages or so long but if you are one of the first 50 orders you will receive one of these mini skeins they are my merino a nylon base and I think you get 85 metres of superwash merino nylon goodness it's a very a fingering weight mini scheme perfect for adding into a scrappy blanket or for heels and toes on socks okay so I am gonna share some other things going in to this week's update this will not be an all-encompassing list because at the moment there are six giant laundry bags of yarn all over our house there are oils in other bags and a big mountain of fiber as well so I will just be sharing some of the things going into this week's shop update all right recommend checking out my Instagram feed if you are interested in some of the other things going up and I have started a post in the Ravelry group thread in the Ravelry group with the details for the update and I'm just going to share some photos of some of the things going in there as well as if you're interested check that out so I'm gonna start with fiber I don't have that much fiber going into the shop but I do have a few braids I have polar ice I have this orange and this purple going in on PO s I have multiple braids of each color but I'm just sharing I'm just sharing one of each otherwise we'll be here all day so I have orange and purple on Polus I have a mixed grey and a fun kind of turquoise TLE green on extra fine merino so this is non superwash merino I have two colors of purple with intentional undyed spots on superwash merino nylon and I have autumnal rusty orange and gold and green and teal on blue face Lester sill so this is the same blend that I am spinning at my cable fly out of at the moment I have also put together some three skein kits of my merino single apply base so you get three skeins of superwash merino single ply fingering weight which is 400 yards per color and these would be really good for some of the three colors all patterns that are out there have three different sets and I will put pictures of them on the screen now as I don't have them to hand to share with you so those will be really fun it's always odd talking about things when you don't have them in your hands to show so I'm just going to be grabbing things from the basket in no particular order I pulled a random sampling of yarn from my laundry bags and I've tried to get one of all of the one-of-a-kind colors that will be going into the shop but there are some colorways that I only have on one base in the basket but I have on all of my bases going into the update so just so you can get a vague idea of some of the things going in to you this week's update but firstly I have my merino Aran base and this is the first time that this base is going to be stocked in the shop under this name it is formally known as my rugged base and it is 166 meters of superwash merino Erin and I absolutely love it so this is the flower crown colorway that I knit my morning mani sweater out of a few weeks ago so I have flower crown on merino Erin I have a limited quantity odd if I want exposure I will get my tips out bras off a clock which is probably just gonna have bras off a clock written on the label and this is my tips out collective colorway from back in the summer and three pounds of each skein purchased will be going at to Women's Aid so I will have this on a multitude of basis I think I've pulled out skeins of it on quite a lot of different basis to share with you but this is the first time that is available on Erin and I can't promise I will be dying this colorway again so if you wanted to get some in the summer now is your chance I have new gar and this is a one-of-a-kind golden speckled colorway as well that I just have on my errand base I've got pinata which is blowing out like no one's business on camera on Marino DK and house rent on Marino DK I am probably going to stop sharing what basis colors are on and I'm just gonna share the colors because I have so many of these colors on so many bases so other way just feels like I'm gonna be repeating myself I've got blue rinse and flamingo legs it's been a while since I've dyed flamingo legs so I've got a fair amount of Flamingo legs going into the shop somebody also requested legless flamingos and I do listen when people request things it takes me a while but I get there so I have legless flamingos going in to the shop I have this on most bases I think another request was sugar plum on mohair silk and spoiler alert if you request things to me in person there is a larger chance of me remembering and the match ly occurring and popping up in the shop so this is the lovely lady whose name I cannot remember because I'm sorry I'm terrible at names here and requested this at per festival of yarn I've got smoked on merino DK I've also got magpie on merino DK and somewhere I have magpie on BFL nylon as well let's just talk about things that are in the basket Amy oh my goodness naughty lest on Aaron these are all on Aaron naive watercolor some of them have labels some of them don't the ones that don't have labels up for any other reason I haven't got around to labeling them yet Cataldo firecracker house ride all on Aaron I also have ocean rainbow and inappropriate crush which is a brand new colorway that I'm knitting my box you sweat it out of and this is on merino Aaron these three are all pastel one of the coins this is an original kind of concept skein for my for two to four colorway this is just a kind of pale pink with subtle speckles and this is a variegated pale blue and purple and all of these are on my merino night on base I have so much mohair going into the shot I've got ocean rainbow and flower crown this is a one-of-a-kind colorway inappropriate crash PE knickers house red oh my goodness my hands aren't big enough firecracker favorite ice cream which is blowing out like no one's business but it's mint with green speckles and pigeon fancier I have a large amount of pigeon fancier on merino nylon I also have a brand new colorway which is a subtly speckled bright orange yellow and this is called circus tent Wallflower blue-rinse and first frost I have tried to include quite a lot of sweater quantities of my heavier weights of yarn because I know that that's what I quite like to use heavier yarn weights for so on VfL DK I have lemoncello favorite ice cream nettleson this is the first time in a while that mettlesome has been in the shop 42 for house red tips out collective and P knickers I don't know what the light is doing today it's really dark and gloomy outside so I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the window right there but on a BSL nylon I have circus tent Midnight Sun there's quite a lot of Midnight Sun on a multitude of bases going into the shop firecracker magpie ocean rainbow this fun purple one of a kind I also have naughty list which is this year's Christmas colorway ice skating party this hot pink one of a kind with purple sparkles this is my favorite one of a kind going into the shot this super autumnal orange e brown I'm gonna try and recreate this because I think it's super pretty oh six skeins of this on bfl dylon if I don't keep it and make a sweater out of it and I have my tips out collective colorway as well we're getting near the bottom in the basket I promise you this game has come on twisted but it is inappropriate crush it has inappropriately become untwisted this is a one of a kind peachy orange colorway with neon speckles I have new gar and mettlesome and all of these are on MCN my merino cashmere nylon bass and lastly I have some single ply and I had House red inappropriate crush naive watercolor tits out collective Midnight Sun oh my goodness I am surrounded by yawn and that is just a small amount of some of the aren't going into this week's update I have pictures that I took yesterday while I was organizing yarn into but piles of bases and I will see if I can pop some on the screen for you now I don't want to tempt fate but in order to avoid disappointment the shop update goes live at 7 p.m. on Friday and if last year's update is anything to go by I think it went live at 7 p.m. last year as well and about 8 o'clock I was getting emails from people asking me when the shop update was going up because there wasn't any yarn left in the shop and I don't know if that would be the case this year because I do have double the amount of yarn that I put in lust but the second birthday update I have double the amount of yarn um but yet to avoid disappointment if there's anything in particular a particular color weight or base that you would like to get hold of I recommend being online as close to 7:00 p.m. GMT as you can okay right that is everything I have to talk about this week now I have to pick all this yarn up off my floor and continue to edit all the photographs of them that I took yesterday and then get back to you labeling oh my goodness I love it I absolutely love my job but on weeks like this it is a bit on the bonkers side
