Stop Playing The Same Old Standards

we all know this [Music] standard or this [Music] one maybe even this [Music] one are they really the greatest Jazz standers of all time on let's dig a little bit deeper and see if we can find the 10 real greatest Jazz standards of all [Music] time or at least 10 of my [Music] favorites let's Jump Right In with number [Music] 10 I think I first heard this tune when I was like 12 years old it's one of those tunes that got me to fall in love with jazz and try to learn what was happening it's from chick Korea Spain [Music] at number nine we have a beautiful ballad written by the master tonius Monk and you're probably [Music] thinking that's very iconic but our number nine is actually [Music] before we get too far into this I better cover my and go back to the origins of the music to an OG standard this is from jelly roll Morton [Music] if any tune over the last 20 years or so has become a standard it's this one from Roy harrove strawberg s Dene it's a fun place [Music] coming in at number six let's pull from the Bountiful song book of Mr Duke Ellington who probably wrote more amazing Jazz standards than anybody ever in a Sentimental movie [Music] this is a classic tune from the '90s from Kenny Garrett I'm so glad this has become a standard because I love playing it I love listening to it it's sing a song of song [Music] we haven't done a blues yet yet and we haven't talked about Charlie Parker yet but we're going to fix both of those with number four all provol [Music] for number three I'm not sure if this is an official Jazz standard but it should be it's from the pan of Mr Wayne shorter the legend here's a little bit of infan eyes [Music] at number two I wanted to hit some Rhythm changes and it seems like we're going back to Colonius Monk and we are but this composition at least the first part of it was originally written by Mary L Williams some 20 years earlier here's Mary Lou's walking in swinging [Music] and here's tonius Monk's rhythming two decades [Music] later this is rhythm ining [Music] all right we made it to number one I'm so excited about this because not only is it our number one Jazz standard I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written [Music] thank you so much for making it all the way to the end of the video If you enjoyed this check out the 10 greatest jazz albums of all time and also like And subscribe see you next time peace and piano [Music]
