supposedly coming out like she's 197 Barbie right so me and John and Christine went shopping antique shopping and um here and it was snowing it was fabulous a little cold but still fabulous and we found my first Top Hat here which became totally part of that black outfit that Barbie is wearing now um and so she didn't come with a top hat because that would been incredibly expensive to make that tiny little somewhere from England right boys top hat that I got right but we're going to find one anyway I just want you to know it meant the world to me to do that because we just went on a little shopping trip and there was this iconic hat and it stayed with me all this time it's in the it's in the it's in the vault right now here in the city right now as we speak so anyway thank you for that most of you probably weren't born but but I was and I was out to shop and that's what I found so thank you Buffalo for my topic so let's get this party this Buffalo party [Applause] started I he voice the the record was finished and my producer Jimmy iine came to me and said we don't have a single and I'm like that's not possible we've been working on this for 4 months and why didn't anybody think of this before now and he said because I didn't know before now I had to stand back and look at it all together not being a producer I was like that so sucks but okay um so anyway he said but I have a plan and he goes you know that band that you continually are talking about because he was also producing this person and I go like yes and he goes Tom Penny in the heart and he says well that guy has this tongue that he thinks would be great for you and it's all recorded it's basically done but he will give it to you and if you so choose he will sing it with you and of course I'm like I so choose so I went in the next day never having met Tom before I mean you know just the Tom Petty fan that I was and like it's like hello Tom it's like hello trying to be calm you know and we walk over to the mic and we blast into it and it was like so easy and we recorded it live cuz it was already done so we just had to sing to the track and it was so easy and it I just I saw my friendship with Tom in that moment that lasted until until he died as a just this easiest easiest friendship ever so anyway we'll thank you Tom Petty for that song it kicked bad Donna right into the stratosphere came in at three and went straight to number one thank you Tom pedy stop dragging my heart around [Music] [Music] oh [Music] baby you come knocking on my FR door same all I you used to use before I did it well about something that they called the sunset riots they weren't really riots they were just well I'll tell you so what happened was I wasn't there because I still lived in San Francisco and Lind and I had L laa we would soon move move there but we weren't there for this day what happened was is that all the hippy dippy girls like myself and their guys would have were hanging out on the strip and they were just basically partying and probably getting the way getting in the way but but hey um so anyway the the police came and told them they had to go home by 8:00 now in my world since I don't even go to bed till 8 in the morning that would not have worked for me at all so it didn't obviously work for them either and so they were not happy and so everybody started to kind of you know get angry and I don't know it was not there I did not see it I just know that it ended up being like you know a little bit of a bash and um so Steven Stills being the amazing songwriter that he is wrote this song about it and of course when I first heard it in 1966 I thought it was absolutely like a political song and it really wasn't a political song it was just this great song about a bunch of kids having a party on Sunday and so hey this is something we did all the time so what I I said to myself this was my grandio little brain 18 1966 saying like someday I'm going to record this song and I did a year and a half ago I actually said I'm going to carry through on that thought and I'm going to record it and I think it's good I think it came out really good I'm very proud of it so anyway um but what I want to say now is how I look at it and how I don't have any idea how Stephen looks at it now so but this is how I look at it as a songwriter he managed to kind of hit on every single thing probably from 196 say it's all the way up until 1975 who knows and it seems to me that it fits in today now I started doing this last summer so that was kind of another time last summer even than today so I look at it now as however you feel about anything just stand up for it you know and however you feel about anything whether you're on that side or that side just listen a little bit and just remember that in the long run you know if we got really bad news that you don't like asteroid was coming towards us it's going to be here in a week it's like I guarantee you everybody would forget being a democrat or republican or anything else and just have a big party whiskey would come out the wine would come out everybody would be happy happy happy so if we can just sort of think of it that way be great anyway it's called for what it's worth so for what it's worth this is for what it's worth 1966 to 2023 Steven [Applause] [Applause] still something happen in here what it is and the heat of uh being famous really fast and going from Super four to not four and um it was like the first day of 1975 we joined food with ma literally they called us the night before we said to each other it was like well of course um and I'm like I don't want to be a cleaning lady anymore lindsy so we got to do this and he's like okay so the next day we went in we went and had a dinner with them a fabulous Mexican food dinner and they had told Christine the boys John and Mick listen if you like her then we're golden if you don't like her we lose the guitar player but we're not going to make you have a girl in the band when there's already a girl in the band that would be you and um so it's up to you Christine so she said no right whatever and so we went and we had this fabulous dinner and Chris and I just had the best of and I thought like I don't even care if I like this band I like [Music] her she's 5 years older than me she's a lot of fun she's super funny you know and I thought this could be good this could be really good for me and so anyway next day we got a call and said like you're well they didn't even say anything as try as you're in they just said rehearsal starts tomorrow at da d da da somewhere in Los Angeles and so that's what we did we we rehears for 3 months and then we made the album in another 3 months and then we went on the road so but I regress I digress regress digress it's one of them so I digress to tell you how poor we were we had a car that was my Toyota no reverse for like 2 years this made life incredibly difficult for the only person that worked in that film that would be me and so anyway it was like I had three coffee shop kigs I cleaned our producer's house twice a week while we lived with him I cleaned it twice a week and then we moved out I still cleaned it twice a week cuz that paid for our rent $250 a week I mean a month right in Los Angeles so it was like it was like it was never going to change that was just going to be it so when we started working for Fleetwood Mac it was like the first week we we did it it was like we each got $200 in cash a piece $400 this is we were rich and so it's like I was watching $100 bills through everybody need so it's like okay the next four weeks later $400 a piece in cash couple weeks later $800 a week in cash and then I called my mom and I told her and my mom's like a little Financial wizard right since she was 16 and she goes like I can see her so uh how's this going down this money thing I said well we just signed initials in a book and she goes oh you just sign your initials in a book for um that much money and I'm like well you out and she goes there's taxes you have to pay taxes and I'm like well no we actually don't mom because you know we were too poor to pay taxes so we never paid taxes and now we're too rich to pay taxes we don't know how so she says well you could go to jail first but you will ruin your your upcoming career so you need to go and hire some people to take care of your money so and that moment that's what we did we hired somebody because we couldn't even handle all that money it was so ridiculous so when I really started realizing that I was never going to have to be a waitress again or a cleaning lady again I started to like there were parts of me that started to look back on that amazing time of making the Buckingham ncks record and leading up to Fleetwood Ma and I was going like you know there's a lot of good things about that kind of a few at least a few things that were good about it and so I would go like this is kind of a drag I have to remember I have to remember so when I would feel that way I would take my mattress off my big bed put it on the floor put a you know tablecloth on it and some dried flowers and I would sit down on the bad night go like I am still steevy and I would sleep that way for like 2 months and then eventually I put put it back on bed and it was it was like a way to tell myself this is great but it's not everything so this song came out so for all you Nomad gypsies out there I'm sure you probably know who this is and who she [Applause] [Music] [Applause] comes so back to the underground back to FL you Mo there some place and some fful flowers back to the Gypsy and that I was to the Gypsy that I and it all comes down to you what you all that done well baby and it l up that's why we took her went to Bethesda and Walter Reed hospital in Washington DC to visit the soldiers and it was probably the best honestly four years of my life in a lot of ways because I found that during the four years that we went and we went a lot we went so many times cuz we really like being there that I actually got a medal for being the person that visited the most and stayed the longest um I'm very proud of that and the thing that I have to say about it is that I never it's the only place that I ever have been then or since where I was never in a rush I'm always in a rush but I was never in a rush I could sit on the bottom of the bed of one of these soldiers and listen to them talk for hours and anyway when Ukraine started I thought you know what I think that these words work really well for what's happening in Ukraine so I'm just going to not I didn't change any of it really I just said I'm going to just revap it a little at the end make it a little bit more rock and roll and uh cuz it's really war that we're involved in it's here now on TV every day and um so I started doing this on stage and um the only thing that I really I have all these things that I want say but it's like ridiculous there's no they're they're seemingly going to possibly pull the the help that we're giving them and I just am hoping that everybody will pray every night that that doesn't happen because it can't happen if I just will say this very simply if Russia gets to the end of Ukraine to the balcan states we will be in a war period we can't let that happen so that's it this song great idea for a totally drugged out song about a total crazy drug addict woman that's on the streets perfect so anyway me a moment too so going right into the next song which in a way it's kind of about the same thing um uh this next song was supposed to go on badana but as on many many especially your first album that you do in a certain like that was my solo career and then it was the fet mat UNS solo career um UNS solo um it was there was there was probably 20 songs that I had ready to go for badana and when we got to the you know the end of it we had about 12 and it was like well that's that and so those other songs just get like I call them the the the gothic trunk of treasures and dreams right so this anyway this is one of those songs that went on to me on wildart and so it was great it was still recorded it just wasn't wasn't exactly at the time that it should have come out so it's called I sing for the things that money can [Applause] [Music] buy you say I have everything that's thing Street um in a house that had a guest Cottage that was all set up as the studio and left that way for years and years and years and guess who lived there the guy who wrote Shuffle off to Buffalo I don't remember what his name was but he was super famous and he wrote lots of songs that were famous so this is my connection with Buffalo so we have had a ball and you know what you guys have been an awesome awesome audience and if I remember right you always are an awesome audience in this city so I'm not surprised so we will see you again here in Buffalo at some point down the road right even when I was little so it's like what I find every night after this song is over and the Montage that I do not look at is over I look at all of you and I feel like you just put your arms
