professor Hawking what a great honor sir I waited three decades for this let's get on with it you're the boss professor told me especially first of all thank you so much for allowing me into your lair here which is fantastic my first question is last time you spoke to this program was before the us elation you described Donald Trump as a demagogue then now that he's been elected and he's been in office for nearly six weeks what is your view of Donald Trump presidency so far Trump was elected by people who felt disenfranchised by the governing elite in a revolt against globalization his priority will be to satisfy his electorate who are neither liberal nor dead well-informed we have already seen Jacinta promised to build a wall along the Mexican border than the sanctioning of true oil pipelines and the appointment and Environment Protection Agency of not Pruitt a man who does not believe carbon dioxide causes climate change this appointment pleases the coal industry and the miners who voted for Trump but I say the global nipple hysteria and reaction to Donald Trump winning the election justified the reactions of the election of Donald Trump me has been overdone but it represents a definite swing to a right-wing or authoritarian approach there was reported to be a memo that government scientists must get White House approval for any announcement a similar ruling in Canada had a chilling effect on science their everyday life in the United States continues much the same I have many friends and colleagues there and it is still a place I like and admire in many ways but I fear that I may not be welcome well I think you would be welcome professor you're always welcome anywhere but I'm certainly would be likely to see President Trump in the not-too-distant future and if I do what message would you like me to relate in he should replace not prune at the Environment Protection Agency climate change is one of the great dangers we face and it's one we can prevent that effects America badly so tackling it should win votes for his second term god forbid the thought of your opinion of president from for a controversial travel ban sister Ethel ban Brent sass Islamic state terrorists all citizens of six mainly Muslim countries but not including America's allies such as Iraq Saudi Arabia and Qatar which allegedly helped finance Islamic state this blanket ban is inefficient and prevents America recruiting skilled people from these countries to be effective that should be replaced by a more selective intelligence based approach but again I fear this may not happen as Trump continues to a PCS electorate he being quite critical of the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn do you think that he can win a general election I don't believe there will be much chance of labour winning an election under him he doesn't come across as a strong leader and he has allowed the media to portray him as a left-wing extremist which is not it's no good having the right principles if you never get in power but I will continue to vote Labour that is a party that matters you opposed brexit and wanting to stay in the European Union now that it's happened though what do you think is the best way for Britain to proceed if we must implement a referendum decision to leave the EU that should be our election as a right wing of your Conservative Party won't that would leave us isolated and inward-looking instead we should retain as many links as possible with Europe and the rest of the world particularly China amazing we refer to British people was the feeling that Eastern Europe migration will take their jobs and undercut their wages some it's already voted accordingly and I see this as short-sighted that is a mistake to cut ourselves off from the world economy if we pay ourselves more than it's justified by our productivity our exports won't compete this will lead to a fall in the value of the pound which in turn will cost inflation and balance of trade problems a few people will get mega rich as is often the case but a majority would be poor by remaining in the EU we will have given ourselves more influence in the world and we would provide future opportunities for young people but leaving Europe reduce British data as a world leader in science and innovation the five most powerful people in Britain right now are all women the Queen the Prime Minister to resume the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon the Home Secretary amber rod and the new met police commander Cressida dick is this the clear of scientific evidence we've had yet of gender equality it is not scientific proof of gender equality that is required but general acceptance that women are at least the evils of men or better this is coming if we factor high-powered women in Europe as well such as Angela Merkel that seems we are witnessing a seismic shift for women to accede to high-level positions in politics and society but there may still be a gap with widows women achieving higher public status and those in the private sector I welcome this science of women's liberation that's all you a feminist yes I have always supported women's rights I moved the admission of women to my college blonde Jill and Keith College Cambridge the results were only good robots and technology are replacing humans in increasingly large numbers this many argue is helping fuel the kind of populist anger which led to brings it and the election of Donald Trump is artificial intelligence going to be the end of us and if it's not how do we best work with it the election of Trump was caused by a reaction against globalization not by artificial intelligence ever since the start of the Industrial Revolution there have been fearsome mass unemployment as machines replaced humans instead the demand for goods and services has written in lines with the increased capabilities whether this can continue indefinitely it's an open question but there is a greater danger from artificial intelligence if we allow it to become self designing first and it can improve itself rapidly and we may lose control seven new planets have recently been discovered should we restart the NASA space program and go pay them event in the recently discovered system of seven earth sized planets that 39 light years away with current technology there is no way we can travel that far the best we can envisage this robotic no note rest pushed by giant lasers that when the percent of the speed of light these note rest wave few grams and will take about 240 years to reach their destination and send pictures back that is feasible and is something that I am very excited about the Dalai Lama when I interviewed recently told me the meaning of life is happiness what do you think is the meaning of life I have no idea but I do remember when I was happy it was 1967 a number of my first child Robert my three children had brought me great so I and I can tell you what will make me happy to travel in space I have already completed a zero gravity flight which allowed me to float weightless but my ultimate ambition is to fly into space I thought no one would take me but Richard Branson has offered me a seat on Virgin Galactic and I said yes immediately since that day I have never changed my mind professor you solved the mystery of life but have you ever worked out the mystery of true love thankfully this is beyond human reasoning but sure it remains so many people professor thinking you are the most intelligent human being in the world do you agree and if it's not you then who is it present company excepted obviously I would never acclaim this people who boast about their IQ or losers if the world was to end tomorrow what's the last thing you would want to be being with my family and listening to her while sipping champagne is a Summer Sun you recently branded humans fat and lazy why we like this and what is the solution I never said this but obesity is a serious problem in a Western world and I have recently supported a global health initiative driven by Swedish heritage and pepp that encourages people to move an exercise more if you were forced to live on a desert island with three other people for the rest of your life who would you choose to be with I could survive with only three other people when I went to Tenerife which is the nearest I have been to a desert island I had a care team I made an a technical assistant but if I were able-bodied I would choose Marilyn Monroe I ensign and Galileo perfect choice professor thank you so much for sparing me so much of your time it's going to johnathan me and i greatly appreciate it you're welcome [Music]
