valve keeps doing it they keep making improvements that other companies refuse to make when third party Steam Machines didn't work out valve said screw it we'll do it ourselves when PC games wouldn't support control pads valve said screw it we'll do it ourselves and when game developers wouldn't make Native Linux ports valve just said screw it we'll do it ourselves well valve just fix the problem with some games on the steam deck and no it's not anti cheat though I really wish it were in fact I guess you could argue they already fixed that and Game Dev still won't support the Linux anti-che runtimes for one reason or another do you think Publishers are justified in their hesitance to embrace Linux antiche runtimes or is this just stubbornness but in any case we're going to talk about that and in addition to that story we have a big AAA publisher that is running back to steam and a much beloved game developer updates us on a long awaited PC Port but honestly it sounds like something that we should probably just give up on at least for the time being let's get started with that update from valve don't forget to like And subscribe one of the most annoying problems I have with games on the steam deck are games with launchers well specifically launchers that I can't navigate with the control pad sure I can use the trackpad or touchscreen display but it gets real old real fast some of the most surprising offenders are actually older indie games because they sometimes have a Unity launcher that asks you to set a screen resolution and Graphics quality before you've even started the game but those are the surprising offenders really AAA games are the ones that are the the worst culprits and AAA Publishers obviously have the money to make a controller friendly launcher they just choose not to that's what makes proton's latest update so interesting I actually mentioned this in my last news video but now I got to try it for myself and it kind of works like magic proton's latest version 9.0 D2 includes a feature that allows you to navigate some game launchers using only your control pad so you don't have to Fumble with the touchscreen or move to the trackpad I can literally just move the thumb stick or the d-pad to different parts of the menu and then press a to select it mind you this currently Works across only a select set of launchers games like Fallout 4 Skyrim and cluster truck valve are using an open source tool named zalia to accomplish this so in all likelihood they're going to have to configure each game individually to ensure that the launches work properly with control pad input that's why I was saying that they're doing the work that other companies should be doing if the game Publishers were doing this then we wouldn't have to wait for valve to implement this for each individual game and remember when I said that AAA game Publishers have the money to make a controller friendly launcher they just choose not to well it's not just them because remember this is an update that's made to work across all of Linux and if valve can make it work for Linux then Microsoft can certainly make it work for Windows this is why I'm kind of dubious of a Microsoft handheld even though I would really really love to see it I think Microsoft suffers from being a large company with a left hand and the right hand often don't work together so despite Microsoft going so hard on gaming the department that handles gaming Xbox is completely different from the Department that handles windows and honestly the windows team just seems kind of uninterested in gaming lately think about it Apple seems more concerned with advancing gaming inside a Mac OS than Microsoft does with Windows as it is the windows team seems just content with gaming as it is on their operating system sure you probably remember that effort to make a version of Windows that's friendly to gaming handhelds but that turned out to just be an internal hackathon project that may or may not have gone anywhere clearly Phil Spencer does want better gaming integration for Windows devices so hopefully he has enough pull in organization to make that happen because I would love to see any company try to provide the offerings that are actually as good as what valve is already providing while I'm here by the way I do want to mention three more updates to your steam deck that you may have gotten one is that the steam deck client was updated on June 13th to show battery life of connected Bluetooth devices you should be able to see this in a quick access menu for devices that do report battery life for me though I actually have not seen this working yet despite connecting with a couple control pads a Bluetooth keyboard and my airpod Pros it's probably just something on my end because I've seen it working for others we were discussing this in the faned deck Discord and one person shared this image for example this update also contains the ability to see which devices can wake a steam deck OLED from sleep for example you see on this screen I can toggle whether or not the Pro Controller can wake my deck from sleep again this particular feature is only for the steam deck OLED also a small but nice update is that you can now change the magnifier scale if you go to settings then display the default is 150% but you can set it anywhere between 120 and 300% the next story is really interesting because it showcases a bit of what epic has been up to lately Prince of Persia the Lost Crown just got a store Page on Steam and it shows as releasing to steam on August 8th which is a little more than six months since it released on Ubisoft connect epic game store not to mention on consoles I brought this up on the faned deck Discord expressing that I was surprised by such a fast turnaround and friend of the channel mosquito reminded me that this is because epic is no longer paying for exclusivity after the release of the division 2 in 2019 epic disclosed that they will be continuing their relationship with Ubisoft in all likelihood this meant that Ubisoft would continue releasing games to EGS exclusive of steam for some amount of time and they would be paid handsomely for it this was part of epic's approach of using paid timed exclusives and free games to attract a larger player base epic has since adjusted their approach slightly perhaps this is because they were set to lose over $300 million on EGS exclusives but whatever the cause they began a new program called epic first run epic first run is an opin program where game developers can keep 100% of their revenue from the Epic gam store for the first 6 months if they release that game exclusively on EGS for PC for those same 6 months this program is open to all developers publishing to Epic including big AAA Publishers like Ubisoft on the store you can even see a list of games that are currently opted into the first run program with the most notable entry currently being Star Wars Outlaws Outlaws releases on August 30th which means that game will likely come to steam in March of 2025 for a crowd of Gamers that are extremely patient as it is 6 months just doesn't seem like that long of a wait at least that's got to be the case for the large contingent of PC Gamers that just don't want to buy games on EGS this actually led to another discussion topic on the FTD Discord where one poster said I don't really understand how epic expects to Garner long-term loyalty from Publishers with stuff like this maybe I'm misunderstanding epic's intent but I'd assume epic is trying to buy their way into becoming developers preferred platform but it's not really working out that way and that's exactly it right it's what I've talked about so many times on this channel Tim Sweeney is focused on Rising developers as opposed to Consumers what I didn't know is that he said exactly this in the past back in 2019 Sweeney made the argument that the existing storefront standard has been perfected and that there's not much to gain by making a marginally better user experience in fact here's exactly what he said he said it's nearly perfect for consumers already there is no hope of displacing a dominant storefront solely by adding marginally more store features or a marginally better install experience these battles will be won on the basis of game Supply consumer prices and developer Revenue sharing we've worked to ensure it's genuinely worthwhile for developers to move to the epic game store we're giving game developers and Publishers the store business model that we've always wanted as developers ourselves now while I generally like the idea of appealing to developers in this case it does seem incredibly shortsighted to do so or to try to do so at the expense of the consumer because not only is the epic game store failing to provide a marginally better experience than steam it's actually providing a considerably worse experience it's like Tim Sweeney thinks that the reason people use steam is simply because they already have large libraries on Steam but it's more the other way around people have large libraries on Steam because they genuinely prefer the experience as I said in the previous segment I would love nothing more than to see any company try to provide offerings that are actually as good as what valve is providing that would just raise the bar for everyone hopefully that can be one lesson from all of this nonsense in the meantime though I am incredibly excited to pick up the Lost crown on Steam I bought it for switch and I played it via emulation on the steam deck so it's already in my game of the year list but I paused my play of it and I'm looking forward to playing it natively on the deck from one port I'm excited about to one port we should probably be giving up on so obviously many of us are looking forward to the shadow of Earth tree DLC for Elden ring which is releasing this week Elden ring was almost like a launch title for the steam deck it released on almost the same day and it was a long anticipated project that ended up running better on the steam deck than it did on Windows PCS but with shadow of UR tree being on the eve of release it brings up some much more sour subjects like why hasn't bloodborne been released on PC yet apparently PC Gamer asked hitaka Miyazaki and his answer was telling he first said I know for a fact that these guys want a bloodborne PC port and he was referring to team members that were in the room with him both from software producer yashiro katow and interpreter Bobby Simpson he added if I say I want one I'll get in trouble as well but it's nothing I'm opposed to obviously as one of the creators of bloodborne my personal pure honest opinion is I would love more players to be able to enjoy it especially as a game that is now coming of age one of those games of the past that gets lost on older Hardware I think any game like that it'd be nice to have an opportunity for more players to be able to experience that and relive this relic of the past so as far as I'm concerned that's definitely not something I'd be opposed to unsurprisingly it sounds like Miyazaki is just like us he wants this to happen as much as we do especially for the sake of game preservation with bloodborne really only being available on the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 Jeff grub who is well respected in gaming and games journalism gave his two cents on the subject saying it's just not happening at the moment at least not involving from fromm's time is worth too much and Sony probably doesn't want to pay the premium to lock it down it's hard to imagine from working on a one console exclusive ever again that point about fr's time being worth too much is a really good one when from software worked with Sony to make bloodborne in the first place they were already pretty popular having released Demon Souls Dark Souls and Dark Souls too but they weren't nearly as popular as they are now in a post Elden ring world so it does seem unlikely that from software would be involved deeply on a project like this on the other hand it would seem like Sony might be able to just handle this themselves without froms involvement whatsoever just like they did with the Demon Souls remake I suppose that all depends on how the rights to bloodborne were divied up and you know what's funny about all of this bloodborne has never shown up in any leak that matters almost every Sony game in the Nvidia league has already come to PC including God of War Horizon forbidden West and ghost of sushima the two games that are still missing from that leak are Grand Turismo 7 and Demon Souls ironically more recently from the Epic DB leag the only game on there that we weren't already aware of was the last of two remastered which you could argue we were already aware of so it does seem a lot more likely that like I said we're going to get Demon Souls remake before we get a bloodborne port on PC still though at some point Sony is going to want to cash in on this winning ticket they'll want to do their own remake or remaster to this game and upgrade it even if just for their own consoles at that point I think we can start the countdown for a p DC Port but what do you think and here are a couple quick stories for you Crime Boss raak city is another game that was previously EGS exclusive coming to steam the release date for that is June 18th this Co-op Rog likee seemed very interesting but I honestly haven't heard much talk about it so it seems like it went into a marketing black hole I will be interested to see what the reception is like on Steam yach Club games had an event called yach Club games presents and in that there were a few announcements with the biggest being that a new Mainline Shovel Knight game is in development ycg said that they're committed to crafting an experience that not only honors the Legacy but also Pioneers groundbreaking Innovative gameplay mechanics this isn't just another sequel It's a bold new adventure well we all know how good Shovel Knight was so I'm actually really excited about this on that note they're also releasing an ultimate version of the original game called Shovel Knight shovel of Hope DX it has an insane lineup of 20 characters new features feat like rewind and save State local and online multiplayer and all the classic challenges and features they also announced new DLC for Shovel Knight dig and showed off an updated trailer for mina the hollower which is looking incredibly sick ycg seems to be doing really great things so I'm looking forward to seeing everything that they're currently up to Fallen a is released in Early Access and already has overwhelmingly positive reception it's the latest game from New Blood interactive who also published theme Classics Dusk and Ultra kill this game is more of an immersive Sim with an awesome crime Noir aesthetic I picked this one up but I haven't had a chance to play it yet because of all the nextfest demos I've been playing I'll give it a shot and let you know what I think so did you know that fellow steam deck content creator Gardner Bryant has a game called dud Lings it's a really fun multiplayer game that has an awesome soundtrack but importantly it just got deck verified check it out in case you want to pick it up so that's going to do it for this deck news Roundup I hope you're all having a wonderful week deck gang out goodbye
