[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so long last I'm your Kosovar just arrived from Ireland I think the reason why I went with those is a preferred style they also seemed to be the closest timber match with the mahogany Ham rails unfortunately the patching bit battered so hopefully they'll be damaged so what we've got is three new posts to go in one on each floor the posts themselves aren't tall enough to get to the right height for the handrail so we need to put a base post at the bottom now they don't really need to be very tall and they only need probably about 300 mil the smallest thing live is 500 but that allows me to probably rather than having to use hardware I can use them like almost like a half lap joint on mortise to bolt them to the old post concealed bases that they're really really solid there's just not much awesome that's one of our bases you see there's already a hole left for the 50 mils down here and here the actual post so first chop on the stairs it's going to be the new face if I can get those in place get them nice and straight and then really secure then everything kind of swaps in between those obviously so the problem we've got here is they cut everything off flush to the floor yesterday I drilled out the top of it with a fortune a bit with the aim that I could use the top of the force of it at the kind of depth gauge and get everything about 20 mil lower than the top tips to at least Sonia had a flat surface but that proved much harder than I thought there's also a nail in there which I need to punch down so new plan of attack is use the router just with a straight bit and the surrounding area is pretty flat if I write the router on there I can flatten off the surface the top surface so I'll give this are kind of gluing fastening flatbed for the bottom of the you'll to go onto but once I've got rid of that nail I'm hoping that we can use the surrounding yapanese to screw down plane down a bit we should be abusive surrounding surfaces of guy breakfast [Music] [Music] and now that this sits in it looks like it goes through the floor I'm actually going to trim out around the top of it as well just by you know a small trim around the edge like a mini skirting board I guess because that I'll actually stop it there make even stronger I think it'll create almost like a full sized pocket mortise through I think they're able to get access in there to do the half lap method so that brought me on to doing a dowel and which is clearly strong enough for this going up here so I'm going to try and recreate that here [Music] but I think it's just getting on and doing these stemming it for about half an hour now and I'm going to find out the center of this space and then we'll drill the Newell first I think all right x marks the spot we just need to try and drill as vertically as possible man there's so much maps and numbers and figures as shapes with ster joinery I could not do this every day what I need to do before I do anything is I need to work out the heights of the handrail so we can work out how high the actual newel needs to be so we know how much of this bit cuts off before we even get to drilling the hole [Music] don't square s square coz I can with the mic syrup got I should be fine his check yeah good [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] for the top one to dry and while I'm waiting for the dribbles battery to charge oh look at this one down horse this straightforward thing would be too flat off the top of the old one and glue it kind of in sits you there with either a fixing through a plug which we can probably get away with a dowel or some sort of joint that comes down into here and that's the one I'm going to favor I think we're always going to have a joint somewhere so I'm gonna face the outside of this with like some thin stock of the same wood but in a you know full full width which I should be able to mill out feel off cuts of this I currently use the router here unless we were to build some sort of jig around there so what I will do is probably just run the plane over it just to smooth it all out make sure were level it's not far off to be honest it's is pretty pretty good she's very good a little bit off there yeah plenty higher so that's that's all the measurements we need [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] well that worked pretty well I've set the depth of the miter saw to cut the the depth we want it and then just did loads of curves knock them out and there we go so we're gonna do a lot of cleaning up now with the chisel and I've left this sort of part of the half lap long so we can trim it until this sits down nicely [Music] so it tells me I need to get a better countersink bit setting fire to it I [Music] think we're as good as we're gonna get now with this unfortunately I'm just correcting and overcorrecting save that should leave this good yeah that's looking good same down here of course you can tweak it with the screw so I'm gonna get some glue in here all over here pump it until I bang on and then get it screwed in [Music] I'll cut it off flush once the glues dry say rap in the song minutes next time alright clapping surfer it's gonna be strong enough and it's gonna do the job beautiful such as personally too [Music] I was a really long afternoon to Newell's one afternoon [Music] you [Music]
