elegance you have brought here tonight this event is a symbol of our community's feelings for you so many people have put in tremendous efforts going above and beyond any expectation that i as the principal have had thank you to the workers to mr mccallum mrs vaughan mr gillies rena and angela mrs lopez the formal committee and the leadership team i asked myself what made this year's seniors so special and the answer became very clear when i looked at your formal video because you're worth it bear with me while i write why i think you are i know many people have talked to me about how sad they are for your year level the first preppies the first sevens in high school the first eight are now covered and i know some people see you as the year it has been forced upon but i watched dylan hope talia patrick and blake and you their peers in the video and i was inspired i know why our staff and the formal committee have worked so hard you are not the hard done by year level you are the trailblazers you are the innovators you are the explorers it is you with your resilience and drive that are paving the way for those to follow you produced the keeping up with the stevens canvas page you led the anzac day home-based commemorations you ignited the flame of the colour games you brought gatsby alive here in the hall tonight you have set the bar for studying a worth ethic for the new tertiary entrance system you have led the college in responding positively to lockdown and social distancing and the regulations you have created the joy with your variety show performances you have remained positive and looked for every glimmer of hope you can in this tumultuous year so i say congratulations to you on being our trailblazers remember that with that excitement that innovation comes responsibility we need every one of you to step up for the last few weeks of school this evening gives you a taste of what is available when you leave school you have stepped out tonight as young adults ready to conquer and take on all the world has to offer your responsibility as young people educated in the light of saint stephen is to make the world a better place as i get to know more of you i am certain that the world beyond our doors will be a better place because you are there in it and i know you can make it a better place because you are the trailblazers you have the courage the experience and the hope i wish you the very best of a wonderful new style formal and i know you will make the best of it the last few words of thanks before i go is a sincere thanks to you all thanks for being young adults this evening and leaving the childish ways behind so that everyone can enjoy the evening thank you for supporting all of our requirements here this evening and for following the instructions of staff to ensure we stick to our covert safe plan congratulations class of 2020 our trailblazers enjoy your formal good evening teachers staff year 11s and senior students of the night i know that we all would have preferred if kirby was up here giving a speech tonight but instead you have connor and i we feel so privileged to represent our year 12 cohort tonight and reminisce on our schooling adventure 2020 has certainly been a year filled with obstacles and hurdles but also with the occasional roadside rose to smell we hope you have enjoyed our big night together and amongst these festivities there are some key people to thank memories to revisit and some roasts to serve our senior year has been an undodgy rollercoaster ride or as mr fenner likes to put it we've had the rough end of the pineapple however as we overlook the year passing it is hard not to highlight the crazy new and memorable experiences we've all shared together from the retreat we kick-started our year with and the first ever color games to the mad rush to complete internal assessment often the night before everyone's been involved in this frantic dash to escape the bounds of high school and enter the broad world beyond i hope as we transition into our adult lives that we continue to be our fun selves and we are able to positively reflect on our school in days things like patrick's locker ice tea collection the comedy show the brilliant live variety show performances powered by vlc media player the mr mccallum's gardening not to mention fishing with borney or bad dad jokes with mr ellison and mr flynn showcased our ability to juggle our life's lemons from these videos we now know we can rely on blake and bo to help us celebrate our birthdays with the help of the newfound media club most of us got a chance to be put on the spot and we were posed with some interesting interview questions by hope tilia and talia and dylan not to mention the broken laptop keyboard for the microphone our year level in particular has a history of uniqueness as we were the first year to experience the mid-year cut-off to prep the first-year sevens to transition to high school the first queensland graduates through the atar system and the first senior year of this century to live through a pandemic i suppose we were just destined to become the most resilient cohort saint stevens has produced or at least we were destined to produce the most resilient teachers we may be the year level of change but we certainly have created our own style not only have we reintroduced the fashion of mullets but we have our very own connors dating inch cliffs deakin house sings you happy birthday even when it isn't your birthday we never give up when there is a pandemic and we are the first sscc students to write qcaa approved internal assessments our communal demeanor especially in the face of this year is to be commended it's safe to say that we have definitely grown to be our own people and aren't the lemmings mr herald thought we were in the words of a certain skilled wise senior wordsmith this year has been a circumstance similar to a manure truck hit in a proverbial wind farm however more importantly despite our misfortunes we still saw huge efforts towards charity the seniors catholic faith in action projects range from delicious to hilarious and we've grown grown closer after our time apart a huge shout out to the comedy show which was a big hit we've exemplified washing the feet of jesus in our service we've shown resilience in times of hardship and we've lived our college mission statement by singing our college hymn trust in the lord with uttermost pride and enthusiasm we'll always have coleman to lend us a pen mr herald to keep us wandering and questioning the moon the system and our lives and mr vaughan mr baker and mr mccallum to tease about their hairstyle or lack thereof we wish you to continue to be existential in the face of your challenges to approach life with courage and determination to never give up when life doesn't plan out expectedly and to see the light and fun in every situation or in the words of angus keep calm and throw sawdust when we all come back from uni or working away don't forget to invite us all all of us non-italians back to your nana's for sunday lunch this extended family we have formed we hope to nurture and cherish forever also please tonight take the time to admire the fabric wall at the back as its value is worth more than 177 dollars and one whole license point thank you andy we year we would like to take a moment to thank every single person who has made tonight one we won't forget from the people who got dragged into helping set up aka the whole of legal studies to mr mack frantically offering budget-friendly alternatives every formal meeting tonight simply would not have been possible without every single person here thank you to mrs vaughn's creative talent and mr gilly's logistical work for bringing our ideas to life thank you to the school miss manders and the leadership team for making tonight possible due to covert 19. we'd like to also extend our gratitude to the caterers catering catering with class for the lovely meal and a massive thank you to each of the students who waited on the tables tonight could we please ask mr mccallum mrs vaughan and mr
