last assembly of the school year is it not on today we will recognize the athletes from baseball crew lacrosse shotgun soccer tennis and track and field but before we acknowledge these teams the athletic department would like to thank the following people Jim slicking and his staff for all they do throughout the year the faculty and staff who graciously work track meets and sacrificed their time the security and the coaches for their positive influence and long hours working with these young men I'd also like to thank coach Simpson Miss Nan coach Martin Mrs O'Neal for their assistance and dedication this spring I will begin with baseball I'd like to start by thanking the following people coach Martin coach Easley coach Moran coach cousins coach Anderson coach Dunlap coach Randy and Coach Tate congratulations to the micro teams and the JV team on great season at the beginning of the season the big red took a trip to Mississippi to play some talented teams one of those one of those teams is currently number three in the nation and returned with a two and two record after returning from spring break we battled some great pitching in the league and competed hard we were first place within two weeks remaining of the season but dropped four straight League games falling to Fourth ultimately we finished the season splitting with ba and finishing fifth but we eliminated in postseason by Father Ryan even though we didn't live up to our expectations this group improved came together and has huge goals for next year with 14 Juniors and four sophomores returning I'm very proud of these guys now we will recognize our student athletes first year letter winners please stand your names up there and stay standing second year letter winners stand and stay standing third year letter winners stand stay standing Round of Applause for these guys please One Last Thing Before I close I'd like to recognize the following people for making the D2 daa All Region team Connor Hamilton stand up please and Lewis picket stand Boston Webster was also voted honorable mention thank [Applause] you good morning gents um here to talk about crew so since July 5th our first practice uh the guys have had 175 practices um which is five days a week for 37 weeks is what it calculates out to in all that time there have only been eight races and so the guys don't come back and keep sticking with the sport because of the winning it's because of the friendships that they they build along the way the the bonds that they forged during all the workouts and the long bus rides to Michigan and Cleveland um and it's a It's a Grind um before the season started the seniors set out a goal that they wanted to win the skulling points trophy at the Midwest championships um an arbor Pioneer has won the trophy for the last 10 years in a row and nobody's come close to knocking them off and so every day over the last 10 and a half months the guys have been working every single practice to to push each other to try and get to accomplish that goal um the the analogy I gave them was you know the workouts and the drills and everything that we do is like putting little deposits into a bank account um and then this past weekend we drove all the way up to Milford Michigan and it was time to make the withdrawal and hopefully we had put more into the bank than the rest of the the other teams up there and it was a battle all day long um it actually came down to the very last race of the day for us um and it was us and Ann aror Skyline in the men's Varsity quad and whichever boat finished in front was the one that was going to win the points trophy um even though they were faster than us in the qualifying Heats uh Cooper Coleman will Caldwell fielding stalen and Thomas Meyer went out and whooped them pretty good in the final took third place overall and we became the first team in a decade to knock off Ann Arbor Pioneer for the points trophy um and so the picture in the upper right corner um is us uh on the wards dock with the the trophy um unfortunately I mean the the region is seven different states 50 teams and so those trophies don't travel um there was a a time when they weren't coming back so there's usually little smaller trophies that the guys would present uh at assembly but they're stuck in the Customs at the Canadian border um you know so thank Mr Hamilton and all of his Canadian friends for not letting the guys have the trophies for today um but along the way so we won that Trophy and then along the way we also won the division two overall team Trophy and so that's combined guys and girls sweep and skulling events um and we beat out Central Catholic out of Pittsburgh all boys Catholic School of 1200 kids um we ended up beating them out by mere Four Points to win that trophy um so I want to have the the letter winners stand up um so these are the first year letter winners there was also nine eighth graders that came down to Chattanooga and raced with us um would you guys stand up um they went and they raced against m these freshman um and put on a heck of a race um so they got their letter this year also um the second year letter winners the third year the fourth year um yeah we don't have fifth years this year um so jents if you guys are standing um thank you for everything this season um it was an interesting 10 and a half months um you know I can't thank you enough for what you guys did push each other through um so thank [Applause] you good morning uh I'd like to start by thanking the finance office uh the IT department and sfm for filling a bunch of request for me this year uh to help to keep the trains running on time uh special thanks to the athletic department Mike Anderson Jamie O'Neal Dana Nan Thomas anster coach Simpson and Coach Martin for helping with game admin field reservations and handling all the other minutia that uh made this season run smoothly and feel seamless I'd also like to thank Greg Ferrell and his office for admitting good players to our school uh jod Johnson for being a sounding board for me all season and Dr Dr doy for supporting our program and Athletics in general at NBA uh before I recognize this year's letter winners I'd like for for Coach Brown and Coach Watkins uh and their seventh graders to stand there should be about 30 of you and Coach Cooper and Coach Myers will you and your guys please stand too these two micro teams combined make up almost a quarter of the student body in Massie and these coaches with the help of some enthusiastic volunteers are invaluable for the way they open up the game and make it fun for a broad spectrum of players ones who've played since are toddlers and ones who are new to the sport allog together uh the pipeline that you've created is the biggest Advantage we have as a program here in Tennessee I'd also like to throw some shine on Coach Jenkins and Coach sharp uh they piloted a JV team that went an undefeated 9 and0 through their schedule with keynote wins against mus and SX Ohio we as a staff put a premium on developing the players in our program and these two do an unbelievable job breathing confidence uh into the under classman and teaching them a thing or two about the game we picked up in Earnest with our offseason work around October's fall break uh and these two guys not once complained about the consistently long days that I asked of them uh this season big red lacrosse Dawn the bullseye and burden of being the returning state champs we opened our season schedule in late February and sprinted through 15 games uh we unfortunately fell short of our Collective goal this past Friday in the semi-finals the team went 11 11 and five on the season which was highlighted by two thrilling one-goal wins against Rivals mus and maau in mid April uh the real attraction for this team though was playing in front of you uh the Big Red Nation and the unbelievable atmosphere you helped create on game nights on Andrews we have the best venue for the sport in the Southeast but it's the people in it that make our Stadium special thank you uh for your help in creating a Friday Night Lights atmosphere to Andrews this spring we have not voted on team Awards yet but we did fill 23 of the available uh All Region spots with 14 players Sturdivant Roberts Woodcock lane holder Wade Bartholomew dve McGuffin button Stark Franks Woodward and Lucas these players should Faire very well when all state voting is tabulated later this week now to recognize our letter winners when you see your name please stand and remain standing first year letter winners second year letter winners and third year letter winners in total we had 42 varsity lacrosse letter winners our biggest number in program history the till is full and the future is bright if we continue to work hard on the practice field roll red [Applause] good morning first I'd like to thank coaches Dr Michelle Artis and Dr Charles Sly the success of our team every season is due in great part to their hard work I'd also like to thank Dr doy for his support and for the encouragement we have received from the MBA Community this spring after coming off a state championship season last year this team had a rebuilding season with 16 first year Shooters joining 13 returners after a season opening win versus lipam we split winds with good pasture had close losses to Clarksville Academy and CPA and placed third in the Tennessee Junior Olympic international style state championship our top three Shooters in that competition Von chamblin Jackson Crawford and Palmer will compete in the Junior Olympic National Championship in July our team banquet is tomorrow evening and our special Awards will be announced to then this morning I'd like to recognize five Shooters who turned in perfect rounds this season please stand to be recognized JD abery Beck metf Andrew SLE Alexander abbush who had three perfect rounds and Von chamblin who had four perfect rounds including a 50 straight thank you gentlemen as you will see from these letter winner slides the NBA Shock gun team had 29 Shooters earn a letter in our 12th season our 10th as a Varsity Sport please stand to be recognized first year Shooters second year letter winers third year letter winners and our fourth year letter winner thank you gentlemen thank you all have a great summer roll [Applause] red morning everyone first of all I would like to thank Dr da TR and the school for the continued support of our soccer program I would also like to thank our ad Mike Anderson as well as Dana Nuna and Mike Martin and Jimmie O'Neal in the athletic office for taking care of so many of the details that are required to run a successful program as well I would like to offer special thanks to Frank Simpson for his continued support and encouragement and mentorship along the way as always to Coach K coach ler thank you well done to our JV team for another successful season under the tutelage of coach marham and Coach Kate David Smith our head athletic trainer deserves special praise for covering every match and keeping our players healthy throughout the season our success so far this year is also a result of the tireless work of my assistant coaches Jake Lawrence Bill Harden Thomas amster off-campus coaches Calvin dunia and Blake Jer uh those guys have put so much time into behind the scenes and also listen to an Irish coach rant and Rave and wanting things done better from everybody including me to our managers Reed Jacobs ol borisoff thanks fellas I know I've been chasing you a lot keep those darn balls pumped will you please our seniors Carson sna Gabe Ron Austin kith Simon anger Richard Elward although you may not be the loudest and most vocal leaders at times you've proven that leadership is not always about in yourf face and ranting but can also be done effectively in a determined and more gentle and subtle manner Lads you've done a tremendous job leading this team thanks so much for your commitment over the last couple of years this year's team like last year's State winning team has played some tremendous possession based football throughout the season and defeated quality opponents of Franklin Antioch and a sweet come from behind wi at Overton we ended this season with a comprehensive 5-0 Victory against nworth nworth which was sweet the finish with an overall record of 121 And1 during the season while finishing with a 411 record in region play scoring 18 goals and conceding one we finished second in the region and we now look forward to playing against mus us this coming Friday for a place that hopefully in the semi-finals Lads to say I'm ready is beyond belief let's get ready to go our award winners will be announced at the end of the season banquet and on to our letter winners if your name appears behind or above me please stand stay standing first your letter winners second year letter winners third this season from Junior School to JV to Varsity thank you second I would like to thank the athletic office Mr Anderson Miss Nunan our trainer David Smith thank you for everything lastly I would like to thank the student body and the faculty who have come out and supported us this year thank you very much the varsity tennis team has a 11 and three record which secured as the number one seed in the region we will host a quarterfinal match this Wednesday against Baylor um we lost to Baylor in the regular season and are really looking forward to getting a second chance against them all of the individual competitors have qualified to the state championship at the end of the month our singles players are uh Billy renoff and Ethan biddles and our doubles teams are Martin Greer Daniel Tor uh Ethan Caldwell and Dawson Stone now I'd like to recognize the letter winners first year letter winners please stand second year letter winners third year and fourth year letter winners congrat McMurray Mr Moxley Miss Scher Mr sweat Mr Thompson Miss Travis Miss Williams Miss J and the best timing crew around Mr Compton Dr Bray and Dr Kramer I also need to thank say thank you to our coaching staff you are all amazing thank you to coach Angel coach bazet cillo coer narmore coach Perry Mr puit Mr Russ coach Sanders I think we need to say thank you to coaches Compton and coach puit for their years years of service to the school and to the sport of trk and field congratulation on your retirements this season and this team have been a blast to coach and watch they work very hard they race fearlessly and they take care of each other well this spring we won all of our regular season meets we finished second at the Scott Harman relays we won the dug hul relays the Nashville city championship ship and the nth grade Metro Championship we've broken five school records the pole vault the 1600 four times the 3200 three times the middle distance medle relay and the distance Med medle relay and with the state meet still to come I expect that we might improve on those records and maybe take another one down it's been truly a pleasure to watch you'll hear about the region in just a minute but the state de cathlon is Wednesday and Thursday this week at brenwood Academy we have Cruz Clifton Jack Perry and Trey paully competing there because the state meet is still ahead of us we will also announce our special awards at a later date but before I have the Letterman stand I would like to again congratulate coach Russell and his staff and the Junior School track and field team for winning the HVAC couple weeks ago middle school track team can you'all please stand and remain standing with your high school teammates gentlemen when you see your name please remain standing first your Letterman second year Letterman third year and fourth year Jordan and Jack are going to tell you about the region thank you roll red [Applause]
