[Music] hello if you're new here um welcome if you love Fiber Arts knitting crochet spinning literally anything to do with art making at all click that subscribe button did you do it okay great enjoy the video good morning I use all my fiber up and I am just obsessed with spinning and I just want to spin even though I have a few activities other activities I could do I just want to spin all the time so I'm restocking my fiber tomorrow but that's not soon enough I need to spin now so today I am going to um use up my scrap fiber and C up some scrap yarn and I'm going to make a scrap yarn skce this is my box of scrap yarn these are just tail ends some bigger little clumps of old yarn that I use with my hand Carters to cut up and make it into spinnable fiber again making yarn with your scrap scraps is a wonderful way to use the scrap yarn how many how many times am I going to say scrap um it's a really wonderful way to use up rubbish essentially uh and if you have hand cards or dog brushes and you want to learn how to spin it's a wonderful place to start learning how to spin because you don't even have to go out and like commit to buying fiber you can just use that you have I'm even going to use some uh scraps of old handspun that are just sitting in here how's that for a second life I'm using a third life actually but I'm using old handspun scraps to make into fiber again to make more yarn out of it so cool there's a lot a lot a lot a lot of in here I think that's all I'll choose from this box while I am doing this I'm just going to start speaking and see what I end up talking about this is a very very fun way of spinning for me it's a little bit freeing it's a little bit like there's no rules going on it's just like bit of a mess um but I find it very enjoyable I just like you get your tail enss and you just like literally put them on your Carter you can do this in an organized way or you can do it in a non-organized way meaning um choosing colors that kind of are similar and go together or just go for it and smash a bunch of different colors together and have just see how it comes out I'm going to go for like somewhere in between um where I'm not going to be like getting too matchy matchy like combining you know all yellows all pinks that kind of stuff but I don't want to be like smashing together colors are completely different like a bit of chaos but I don't like it being absolutely unorganized lately I have been sewing and that has been really exciting because I applied for fashion school and I I'm not fully like talking about it and making it a big deal in my head yet because it was a pretty big step for me I'm 26 and I've already done a bachelor's degree an undergrad degree and so deciding to go back to UNI is a pretty big step in my head and I'm not really sure if it was like what I was ready to I was never imagining myself going back to University but I love textiles and I love Fiber Arts and I love making clothes and I just love making stuff and while you can do that without going to University for it when it comes to sewing and the kind of thing that I want to be learning and possibly going into as a career the idea of going to Fashion school and kind of like learning it so intentionally and around mentors and people in the industry really excites me you should just do things when you when you want to do them and there's there's a lot of stigma in my head around being older and going to University I was not at all ready for it because I had completely unhinged ADHD unmedicated ADHD and I did not know what the hell was going on and it was very confusing and I couldn't keep up with my studies and I honestly hated it and I also feel like I went into it for reasons like I just finished high school and it was like the next step and I honestly really had a bad experience not completely bad nothing is ever completely bad or completely good but it wasn't the greatest and I swore that I was not made for uni and that uni was I'm never going to set foot back into one um they're pointless blah blah blah and while I agree somewhat with that sentiment that you can you know you don't have to have a career especially in the creative industries by going to UNI like you don't need uni to have a creative career but if you want to like study because you want to learn and gain more knowledge in something and you're going into it with those like kind of pure intentions you should definitely give it a go because even though we have the internet and YouTube and all these great resources that are basically free to anyone to learn anything it doesn't like stop University from being a helpful or valid resource for learning about something and for me in this particular situation actually feels like it would be a really great way for me to learn about fashion and design and I'm really excited about the idea of it and I'm trying to just let myself feel that excitement instead of like gaslighting myself into being like you're 26 and going to UNI and doing a whole new degree what are you doing you're wasting your life it also means that I'm going to be very busy and there might be a few changes to what this channel looks like um which kind of excites me because I'd definitely be interested in talking maybe more like lowkey videos just like reflecting and talking about things I've learned um whatever ideas that I've kind of been contemplating to do with art and design and clothes making or whatever and just kind of make it this like all-rounded I'm an artist talking about being an artist kind of space and not just to do with you know what started as crochet and then went into now I knit and now I spin it's like I'm slowly realizing I want to do all of it so I want this channel to be like this is all of it I think that's all I have to say for now cuz I don't I could speak for hours and hours just sitting here doing this and I don't even know if the sound of this is obstructing the sound of my voice ranting about myself okay I'm going to challenge myself to one not just spin tiny yarn but also spin a singles and keep it that way so it means I have to treadle [Music] slowly okay it's not going too bad this is very colorful yarn and so that's very nice I'm just going really slowly when I was spinning on a drop spindle I was like exclusively making singles because it's so easy to control on a drop spindle because it's not going as fast and consistent as a wheel and so since I tried spinning singles on a wheel once and I got so um it intimidated by it because it's like it's pulling it through so quickly um but I have a bit more control over it now cuz I've been spinning on it for for a bit longer so I'm just going to trust the process and I think it's going to probably work out just fine always does I'm a really big perfectionist when it comes to slobby yarn and curly cues in my in my yarn and I know that it's not that much of an issue because I look at other people's yarn that they're like happy with and it's like some curly cues are in there it's really slubby because that's like an entire style of yarn by the way but I'm like when I look at their yarn I'm like that's beautiful and fine that it's like imperfect but when I'm making yarn I get sometimes like really stressed if there's like little imperfections um so I'm I am trying to battle that but I'm also trying to be like well if you like perfect yarn like not perfect yarn but if if you prefer making even consistent yarn like that's just your yarn style and that's fine I don't have to force myself to like slubby yarn you know what I mean okay I'm on my last roll leg I'm very interested interested to see how this uh comes off onto the nitty nauy some of the rolls were more difficult than the other ones um purely because of like how much they've been carded or like if there was more like M hair in one of them like that was harder to kind of like draft from than than if there was like a rollag with heaps of Corel or Marino or something so it's a it's like a mixed bag of stuff going on here I'm happy with it on how it looks on the wheel this is her on the bobbin I forgot to change the thing at the end there um but she looks really pretty I'm going to put her on the nitty naughty and see how this worked out [Music] yay so much color in there nice not too much twist we love to see you the finished scrap Yar Yar it worked out beautifully I'm looking through it and like these singles are actually not too bad they've The Twist is set really really well and there's not too many hectic curly curly C I think there's actually there's no curly cues in there I can't wait to use this this one's just for me I'm thinking of mixing ing it with my B clay from my last video but I'm obsessed with all the colors that are going on in here it's like this pastel bowl of goodness I think it will look really nice once it's knitted up very happy well thanks for watching see you in the next video [Music] bye [Music] w
