alright hey everybody this is Spartan Ireland  I'm gonna share some tips and ideas about the   spear throw and hopefully this will help you  with your success out here on the course. The   first thing to do because if everything else is  perfect first thing to think about is taking care   of the rope. If you mess that up and you've  got perfect form and what I mean by messing   up is you want to make sure your rope is on the  other side, you want to make sure somebody else   didn't let it get hooked on something like  that from the gate. You want to make sure it   didn't go under and over this. I had that,  of course I just had to switch stations,   it was never gonna go, I was gonna lose three feet  of rope. Ok now I've brought my rope back into me.   I have had this experience in a race when I did  my throw and my foot went under there and I felt   a little tug on this perfect looking arc and  my spear just stopped and hit the ground and I   had burpees. So take care of the rope number one.  Next thing is just gonna be, that I think matters,   is position. I don't think I'm aiming straight  at my target but I'm standing over here and I'm   probably gonna miss to the right. So just position  yourself. Next thing up is grip. Let's take this   way of holding it I learned from my friends Zach  global. I picked it up I really like it which is   hold that spear till it's balanced on its own  with its own weight distributed half and half   and then I'll come back one hand hold. A thing I  don't do consistently but I know a lot of people   do is say hey I'm worried the ropes gonna be at  my elbow you can just bring that in with your grip   and then it's not going to change the weight it's  not going to mess up your throw. Next thing I'll   do is I'll twist my wrist back a little bit. I  want my index and my thumb I want those to be the   two that are releasing and that's where I want my  launch to come from when I actually do my throw.   Another couple of things I like to sink into it  because they get a little bit of gusto out of my   body movement when I come up. So when I "sink in"  I mean I drop down in my stance a little bit. The   other thing where I got better success even at  home just practicing is making sure that once   I'm ready to go, my tips up a little bit just  so it helps me get that arc and hopefully curl   down right into about the bullseye. Then the last  thing that I want to emphasize because I find I   can do things like practice 25 throws in a row at  home, no misses, 50 throws in a row and no misses,   and then I come out on the course and I'm  thinking to myself I'm praying before I   get to that spinner throw! Oh man I feel like  everything is on the line, this is such a big   deal, it's 15 seconds or 30 burpees and I can over  stress the importance of the obstacle and then end   up missing it because I'm just not letting myself  relax. So hopefully those things will help you,   hopefully we get a good demonstration here  and so we'll take a shot. Hope that helps   you out hope you avoid some burpees! This  is spartan Ireland thanks for watching!
