just<font color="#CCCCCC"> without a barrel and the</font> dimensions tell it all a rocket is almost entirely propellant which<font color="#CCCCCC"> is why</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">putting people into space is tough</font> because<font color="#E5E5E5"> people are fragile</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> I mean some</font> ballpark<font color="#E5E5E5"> numbers mean let's say for sake</font> of argument<font color="#E5E5E5"> people</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> we're about 100 kilos</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">200 odd pounds and</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> they're made up</font> entirely of<font color="#E5E5E5"> water they're not it's 70%</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">water but let's just say they're</font> entirely water<font color="#E5E5E5"> so to vaporize someone is</font> basically the<font color="#CCCCCC"> energy to boil</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> a hundred</font> kilos of water and water takes about<font color="#E5E5E5"> two</font> mega joules per kilo to boil<font color="#E5E5E5"> so to</font> vaporize someone takes about<font color="#E5E5E5"> 200 mega</font> joules point<font color="#CCCCCC"> two</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> Giga joules of energy</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">now let's give that same person orbital</font> velocity<font color="#CCCCCC"> seven</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> kilometers per second how</font> much<font color="#E5E5E5"> energy do they have well energy is</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">1/2</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> MV squared</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> so that means that</font> they've got<font color="#E5E5E5"> about</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> 2 Giga joules of</font> energy<font color="#E5E5E5"> if enough energy</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> to vaporize them</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">ten times over or</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> looked up another way</font> the<font color="#E5E5E5"> energy density</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> TNT is about</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> four</font> Giga joules per<font color="#E5E5E5"> ton which means that</font> just your body has<font color="#CCCCCC"> the same amount of</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">energy as half a ton of TNT that's</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> about</font> five times your body weight of <font color="#E5E5E5">T&T now let's just get a feel of what</font> sort of energies can be<font color="#CCCCCC"> fatal to humans</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">well the potential energy that you get</font> from say jumping<font color="#E5E5E5"> off a table is mass</font> much spandrel kilos times the distance <font color="#E5E5E5">you fall just</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> a meter times by gravity</font> which<font color="#CCCCCC"> is ten meters per second squared</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">so just jumping</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> off a table gives you</font> about one kilojoule of energy which<font color="#CCCCCC"> you</font> can probably absorb<font color="#E5E5E5"> without too much</font> trouble<font color="#CCCCCC"> however you fall from ten</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> meters</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">that's merely 10 kilojoules</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> that's</font> not<font color="#E5E5E5"> really so survivable</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and sure it</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">matters what form that energy is</font> delivered<font color="#CCCCCC"> in and the period of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> time it's</font> delivered in I mean<font color="#E5E5E5"> falling from</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> one</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">meter</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> if you're a rope around</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> your neck</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">is pretty fatal and a handgun</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> bullet has</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">merely half the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> energy of jumping</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> from a</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">1 meter table it's about half a kilowatt</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">which can be pretty bad for</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> your health</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">if it hits you</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> but it gives you an</font> appreciation of just<font color="#E5E5E5"> how gentle</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> you have</font> to be when you're trying to<font color="#CCCCCC"> give bodies</font> orbital velocity<font color="#E5E5E5"> when you're trying to</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">put</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> 2 Giga joules of energy into a human</font> this is why space is hard<font color="#E5E5E5"> now you're</font> there of course<font color="#E5E5E5"> it's not too bad but</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">putting the</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> 2 Giga joules into them</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">without killing them is hard and taking</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">those two gigatons</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> out of them
