hey you it's Peter coffin and this is that current events thing I said I would do every week night last night lis so today I thought I'd do something a little bit different you see tomorrow the season premiere of South Park is happening and they're going to cover white nationalists with tiki torches marching around with rebel flags and yada yada yada which would make them actually some of the only entertainment media to be covering that however if you watch the very important documentaries episode I called horseshoe theory you'd know that I don't really regard them as much more than like really ultra centrist like they are the definition of centrism in my opinion they will do everything that they possibly can to extrapolate some kind of false equivalency from two sides of any issue that may or may not be valid white people renovating houses now you know what the title in all honesty sounds promising that is something that I think isn't really being addressed it's actually something I kind of wanted to address in a very important documentary before everything went bad last year when I came up with the series I wrote down a lot of topics and one of the things that I want to address is the idea of overpopulation through the lens of tiny houses Renault shows and all of that stuff that's something that I've really wanted to talk about because I really like watching house Renault shows like I don't want to run our house I don't care about the industry surrounding it I don't really want anything to do with any of that stuff but it's tremendously entertaining to me and the thing that is most noticeable when you turn HG TV on and you see one of these shows is that it's only white people renovating houses and I'll tell you why in an economic system that has favored a specific demographic over all other demographics for as long as this one as white people have the capital to do this [ __ ] and they don't want to follow around somebody that they have to fund to do the house renovation they want follow around somebody who renovates houses on a daily basis and they can pay for the right to show it on a TV show application of a format and editing and so on and so forth now it's interesting to me that they would frame an episode about white nationalism through the lens of white people renovating houses because to me these are actually intrinsically linked ideas if you look at the fact that capital is specifically in the hands of white people they're the specific ones that are generally able to do these shows the the stars they fund the renovations they make the profits and although you may see them employ people of color that's exactly it they're people of color who operate as contractors doing work for the white people renovating the houses and to me the next step because we're taking both of these things and making them into one thing is the idea of taking the you will not replace us chant and applying it to home renovation where exactly is that going to leave us now from a white supremacist lens you might see some complaint over the fact that people of color are the ones that get the contracting positions and do the work on these houses the replacement of the working class so to speak or it could be that it ends up being metaphorical it could end up being that the houses are in some way being the ones that are replaced and the people end up protesting in the idea that they don't want the houses to be replaced or something gentrification could be then used as an analogue fusing gentrification to say that white people are being pushed out and I really hope that's not what they do on so far because that's the great replacement but South Park is a show that is run by centrists and one has to keep this in mind if one is attempting to talk about what they may or may not do so what are centrists going to talk about property and then we're also talking about white supremacists specifically the ones that have tiki torches and kill Heather hire with a car and I want you to think about that for just a moment the name of the episode is specifically about property and one of the bigger elements in the anti-fascist argument is being featured prominently and yet they've said nothing about anti-fascist action in any of the promotional materials in theory because well what de centrists say about anti-fascist action they equate property damage to violence and then that basically says that anti-fascist action is violent and evil and therefore the same thing as Nazis and whether or not South Park takes any of these routes I don't know exactly what they're going to say and here's the thing South Park can be pretty funny they do have a good sense of humor their timing is great that is true these are not things that are fake and people who I tend to share the same views about free speech are attempting to set this up as the South Park people getting ready to mount a stupid free speech argument I don't see them talking about that and the reason I don't see them talking about that is because I think that their own views in that are they're confused at the moment if you ask me I watch South Park even though at this point in time I don't necessarily think it's good or great or I think that there are strokes of brilliance on the show and I also think that there is just horrific ly bad [ __ ] on the show I don't know why I'm so fascinated by at this point but I am it's something that I feel like I need to personally analyze and figure out exactly where these people are coming from because there's such a centrism barometer it's such a microcosm of centrism and what centrists think and how they're going to structure their arguments because don't tell me that your eric garner's in your day of rubens alike don't watch South Park those people do watch South Park and they do structure arguments around South Park not necessarily those two individuals exactly although I wouldn't be surprised but liberalism and centrism have used South Park even if it's co-option they've used it before to make points and the reason is because they effectively both sides every argument and that's exactly the problem we can't continue to do that there has to be something that is right and something that is wrong and if we want to pretend that there is nothing that is like that that both sides are always wrong but there's always redeeming points to both sides then we have to say that there's something redeeming about the Nazis there isn't where does that leave South Park I don't know I don't think this is a time that they ever thought they would have to deal with I think they've thought that they could just straddle this line for decades and decades and they'd be fine they just get to do what they want and when they finally got sick of it they could just stop but I think they accidentally helped cause a lot of the [ __ ] that goes on in the world today by making it acceptable to people not to actually have a stance and that's where we are not having a stance on Nazis for instance is just brazenly irresponsible and I think that South Park has a bit of an opportunity in taking this topic on to undo that not that I'm saying they'll take it because I have sincere doubts about that I've watched enough South Park to know that well they might do something that's great like member berries that flat-out says nostalgia is a pathway to bigotry it's brilliant in its framing of that issue and it hits it pretty much on the nose but they also do stuff like PC principal which I get that they're not even going after a person like myself they're going after an authoritative liberal type and that kind of person actually does kind of really annoy me but it's a person who is siding on something that isn't wrong they're just good but not doing good right which it's hard for me to want to make that into a problem when you have stuff that isn't actually good or is outright bad and people who because they don't want to actually talk about real problems kind of encourage it I have a kind of a love-hate relationship with South Park South Park has ostensibly really helped the worst contingencies of the nation along in ways that they probably don't even understand and at the same time they've also led me to revelations about things in the world that in all honesty I think were positive for me and helped form my worldview albeit my worldview is nothing like their worldview still I think that there are questions that they've asked over the years that are good questions just they don't answer these questions for themselves regardless of what they do on the episode that airs tomorrow if they did the most progressive possible thing if they went full-blown leftist socialist it wouldn't matter people would be angry about it because that's what people do now but that's not really something to hate or satirize or poke fun at there's a reason to be angry at everything everything is [ __ ] and stuff that doesn't seem [ __ ] - you might be [ __ ] to somebody else because how it affects them things are different for different people and that may not be something that everybody loves to say or talk about or think but it's true and it seems like that's more often than not the target of South Park so I would love to see that change if it doesn't change South Park will just continually be a defender of the status quo as long as it exists and in all honesty if you think about it that's very much the function of it they talk about something that's going on now and they try to find what's wrong with both sides of the thing and the thing is I'll watch it tomorrow I don't have any reason not to watch it tomorrow I'm interested in and I'm always interested and I always want to see hey this is the time that Matt Stone and Trey Parker developed as human beings and and even if it doesn't ever happen I would like it to happen because they hold a lot of influence over a lot of people including people like PewDiePie which you get exactly why I said that right I don't really have to describe that right everything has an effect and centrism seems to have an effect that trends us towards the right you have anything to add please do so in the comments you say something shitty in the comments I'll delete it I don't care like is not a strong word and if I've met that fairly low threshold please click the button that says so button helps the video do you want to see more videos just like this one click the subscribe button down here as well as the
