hello my friends in today's video we will be comparing Sony A7 4 and Fujifilm xh2 base 7 4 is currently the most popular hybrid camera on the market and as I've explained in my previous videos there are very good reasons for that the xh2 uses a new aps-c sensor combined with a powerful processor to offer a pretty incredible feature set at a very interesting price point in this video we will compare the performance and the feature set of the a74 and the xh2 and I will try to help you decide which way to go as you might know the appearance of the xh2 is identical to the xh2s and that means that some of the conclusions will be the same as in the a74 and xh2s comparison the size of the a74 and xh2s is very similar Fujifilm is a little bit wider but the difference is hardly noticeable both weigh around 660 grams including a battery so both are exceptionally Compact and light and they offer great size to Performance ratio the build quality is also very similar both use a magnesium frame and feel very solid the xh2 might have a very slight Advantage because the front side is rubberized but I don't have any complaints about the a74 build quality either both are weather sealed I have tested the weather ceiling on the a74 more than I would like and I can confirm that it is very solid judging by the xt4 I also expect the xh2 to perform very well in this regard probably the most important difference is the sensor size and the pixel density E74 uses full frame backside illuminated 33 megapixel sensor the xh2 uses a smaller aps-c backside illuminated 40.2 megapixel sensor the xh2 offers more resolution but the a74 has a huge pixel density advantage in reality the amount of detail is very similar I would say that it is a draw which is a success for both both capture a very solid amount of detail sufficient for basically any kind of digital publishing and fairly large fine art prints an important factor is that you will need to use optically excellent lenses to match the pixel density on the Fujifilm whilst the Sony is much less demanding when it comes to the optical quality of the lenses regarding the iso performance as always keep in mind that Sony uses REI ISO scale whereas the Fujifilm uses SOS which means that I will have to use higher ISO by about two-thirds of a step on Fuji to compensate for that a74 is generally cleaner by one stop and some change at Ray ISO 1600 and SOS ISO 2500 Sony is very clean on Fuji you can clearly see the noise but it is usable at Ray ISO 3200 and SOS ISO 5000 the Sony is still very clean and usable for majority of publishing platforms Fuji can probably still be used for online publishing by the amount of noise is quite significant at ISO 6400 on Sony and 10 000 on Fuji Sony is still usable for digital publishing there is a lot of noise on Fuji so I would only use it in case of emergency so 12800 is an emergency option on Sony but it will still get the colors right I saw 25600 is usable for documentary purposes Fujifilm doesn't go higher than ISO 12800 natively overall Sony wins in terms of the low light which is to be expected but Fujifilm is not bad at all for a high resolution aps-c camera in terms of the dynamic range extrans 5 got a little bit closer to Sony because of the lower base ISO which is now 125. as long as you stay at lower ISO values you should be able to basically use highlights and Shadow sliders without restrictions the dynamic range is generally great on both the difference will mostly be visible at higher ISO values while the a74 has an advantage the xh2 can also shoot staked 160 megapixel images using pixel shift it only works on a tripod and you need to combine the images in proprietary software the amount of detail that you can capture this way is incredible so if you have a tripod on you it is definitely worth using the xh2 is also significantly faster camera it can shoot up to 20 frames per second but that is with electronic shutter and 1.29 times crop you can also get 13 frames per second with electronic shutter and no crop with mechanical shutter you can get 15 frames per second which is a great value for a 40 megapixel sensor the a74 is definitely not hopeless when it comes to fast shooting though 10 frames per second isn't great by 2022 standards but it is sufficient for a lot of use cases 12-bit compressed rows are generally fine importantly you can get basically infinite buffers with both cameras both cameras can perform like proper flagships with CF Express cards meaning that you can view the images and change all of the settings immediately after you have shot hundreds of Ross the secondary slot in both cameras is SD so you can't have backup writing at full speed with either Fujifilm has an advantage here because it uses type BCF Express cards which are faster and also much cheaper than type A especially the spare gear card which is actually cheaper than some high-speed SD cards but works great the Steels autofocus conclusion is very similar to the a74 and xh2s comparison first of all both work great in all of my standard tests including glow light Begley subjects and focusing from minimal distance to Infinity there is no hunting and both are hundred percent accurate regarding the tracking the xh2 is actually very good I was able to consistently get rounds where the focus was acceptable in all images and perfect in most images it starts to struggle a little bit at F 2.8 where I was getting a lot of how focused images but that is quite an extreme test to be honest as you probably know by now the a74 doesn't really care it gets a perfect score regardless of the situation I have done multiple arrests at the different apertures and I was constantly getting all images in Focus even at F 2.8 keep in mind that the a74 only needs to manage 6 or 10 frames per second whereas the xh2 up to 20 frames per second a number of smart features intended to identify and track objects are available on both on Sony it works great as I've already shown you in previous videos on Fujifilm I have only tested it with people and so far that works great as well the video would have focus on Fujifilm is definitely improving if you use it in reasonable situations it will work great probably 97 percent of the time in less reasonable situations such as frequent focusing from close distance to Infinity it will still be accurate and pretty fast the only issue might be the smoothness which will depend on the specific situation and the lens face tracking actually works great pretty much as good as on Sony much like with the Steels Sony doesn't really care I've been using the a74 for a year now and I haven't encountered a single situation where the autofocus didn't work perfectly even that card scene is not an issue at all for Sony there isn't much more to say about that another advantage of Sony are Focus areas you can choose a single point Zone white area and so on it also has a normal touch tracking which works great as well with Fuji you can only use the whole frame focusing or single point trekking in video only works with faces overall I am still happy with the autofocus on Fujifilm it is more than good enough for my personal use but it still can't match the Sony the main video highlight of the xh2 is 8k whereas the Sony Max is out at 4K in terms of the detail the 4K video is very similar the A7 for down samples 7K video to 4K xh2 can also fully down simple 8K video in 4k HQ mode these are the two best cameras in terms of the detail in 4K video that I've ever tested video from both just looks fantastic if you go beyond 4K Fuji obviously has an advantage because the a74 has to upscale the video 8K from the xh2 is also very convenient if he wants to crop in I don't have an 8K monitor but I still appreciate the 8K capability of the xh2 a74 can shoot 4K 60b but with an additional 1.5 times crop the xh2 can do it with an additional 1.15 time scrub which is much less severe having said that Sony still uses larger sensor area when shooting 4k60p the xh2 also offers more advanced video codecs Sony tops out at 500 megabits per second in 4k 60b 10 bit 422 and 250 megabits per second in 4k 24 or 25p the list of codec and frame rate combinations of the xh2 is pages long including 8K 30p in prores HQ at 3520 megabits per second having said that Sony's codec is very efficient and it will be more than sufficient for the vast majority of users if you are shooting Glock those hybrid rates on Fujifilm May provide additional information for expanding flat gamma curve I've got very good results when shooting Glock on both but I haven't done in-depth tests of lock both capture a ton of dynamic range Fujifilm May capture even more dynamic range than the Sony but the noise level at the log base ISO on Sony is lower the Codex on both cameras are more than sufficient for hybrid users if you need a camera for very serious filmmaking higher bit rates and internal progress on Fujifilm may be an advantage although the full frame look of the a74 is also desirable the rolling shutter on Fujifilm is visible in 8k or 4K HQ setting unless you are shooting some fast moving objects or using long focal length it shouldn't ruin your footage but it is something to keep in mind there is much less rolling shutter in non-hq 4K video so that is a very valuable option for a fast moving objects the rolling Shredder on the a74 is closer to the non-hq rolling Shredder of the xh2 so again unless you are shooting something specific it shouldn't be a major issue overall the xh2 definitely wins in terms of the video capabilities Sony can indirectly compensate for that with a full-frame look low light and autofocus but the video specifications are getting rather average in late 2022 Fujifilm claims that the inbound image stabilization in the xh2 has 7 stop efficiency Sony claims five and a half stops for the a74 the IBC in the xh2 is better but definitely not by one and a half stop not because the xh2 Ibis is not good but because the a74 Ibis is greatly underrated in Stills I was actually able to get Sharp Images at very similar shutter speeds with both in video the xh3 is also more stable but the difference is not huge Fuji gets you closer to a tripod look but Sony footage definitely isn't shaky both are sufficient for aesthetic shots probably up to about 70 millimeters Fuji may be a bit more and the normal stuff such as spanning or just pointing the camera around both also offer Digital Image stabilization on the top of the ibis with 1.1 times additional crop and it is quite effective on both but don't expect it to be like on a GoPro an advantage of Sony is that it can store gyro data that can be used in post-production to further stabilize the footage regarding the handling the conclusion is the same as in the xh2s comparison the grip is almost identical and I definitely don't mind that I think that it is a very good compromise between the holding comfort and compact design and I think that most users will be happy with it an advantage of the a74 is that it has two more commanded dials the placement of the buttons is very logical on both and I don't have any fundamental issues with the control layouts on either Fujifilm has an extra button on the front side basically the only thing that I miss on both is the dry mode dial an advantage of Fujifilm is that it offers 7 custom modes that can be configured as Steels or video modes xh2 serves a status display and it is probably the best one available I actually started looking at it a little bit more recently but the usefulness of a top plate LCD on Modern mirrorless camera is up for a debate the user interface is in my opinion better with Sony a74 uses the new main menu which is very well structured and it can be controlled by the touch screen the xh2 uses the traditional Fuji menu which is also pretty well structured but not as well as Sony and it can't be controlled by the touchscreen at all function or queue menu is great on both it offers unlimited customization and touch controls on both cameras so no complaints there overall I like the handling on both but I slightly prefer the a74 because of those two extra dials and better main menu on the other hand the display is better on the xh2 both cameras use a 3 inch 3x2 panel but the Fujifilm has a higher resolution at 1.62 million dots Sony uses 1.04 million dot panel but it is not as bad as that number would suggest it is still usable but the Fuji display is better for reviewing the photos and for manual focusing the viewfinder on Fujifilm uses 5.76 million dot panel with 0.80 times magnification this evf is a class above Sony's 3.69 million dot panel with 0.78 times magnification the evf in a74 is still very good but the xh2 evf is definitely nice to have npf said 100 battery in a74 is slightly larger at 2280 milliamp hours the xh2 uses 2200 milliamp hour battery a74 is rated for 580 shots xh2 for 540. the real world battery life on Sony is significantly better I was able to get about 150 minutes of the highest spec 4K video with Sony with Fuji it was closer to 100 minutes the battery life is still great on both but Sony wins in this regard Sony also dominates when it comes to the last selection the email blend selection is objectively the most complete on the market there are plenty of brilliant budget-friendly lenses from Brands such as semienk Tamron Sigma and so on some of the latest Sony lenses such as the 20 30 70 millimeter gm2 offer Optical perfection in a miraculously small and light package as long as you are willing to pay for it at the moment there isn't really anything that I miss in the email blend selection is not bad but a lot of first party lenses are due for an update at the moment I don't know which lenses are good enough to match 40 megapixel resolution but I can already say that this sensor is very demanding when it comes to the lens quality latest Fuji primes such as this 18 millimeter F 1.4 are optically brilliant but there are still some quirks such as loud autofocus motor on this lens which is quite difficult to understand red batch 16-55 is definitely not a bad lens but I think that Fuji can offer more when it comes to the most important lens in the system on the other hand the selection of third-party x-mount lenses is getting much better and some of them such as my favorite wheel trucks 13 millimeter F 1.4 are brilliant to sum up I think that this is one of the most interesting camera competitions on the market the a74 is a well-established and best-selling hybrid camera on the market it has some great strengths such as the sensor output autofocus and the lens selection but Sony did left the door open in some aspects such as the shooting speed or video specs which are solid but not Market leading the xh2 takes advantage of that by providing a fantastic feature set including 8K video 160 megapixel mode up to 20 frames per second continues shooting and so on it also retains a lot of Fuji Factor despite being on a pragmatic side of the lineup much like in the a74 and xh2s comparison I am once again very happy to say that the xh2 is a relevant alternative the a74 is probably still a safer choice that combination of a sensor output bulletproof autofocus and fantastic lens selection is just very hard to beat having said that I think that the xh2 is actually a more interesting camera thanks to fujifilm's no restriction approach when it comes to the feature set I definitely don't mind opening both and I hope that this video will help you make the right decision so that's it for this video thank you for watching I hope that you like this video and that you have found it to be
