it's lots more sequins lots more feathers in the right place yes all right well it's christmas and uh because it's christmas i think that uh we should be benevolent to one another and that you should thank me for all the wonderful things i've done for you [Music] no i just i just want you to know that on a christmas show i'm to be christmas warm to you on christmas nights there let me just i get you a share doll and you can play with it as much thank you very much very good anyway i'd like to say to everyone thank you christmas merry christmas and it's it's nice to have me here especially on april fool's day that's your day i just want to say you know something no this is uh we're getting to be like a tradition on christmas shows you know i mean we're getting to be like mistletoe holly eggnog yeah pepperoni fruitcake you can't phase me tonight because i feel so benevolent here you do and i yeah i'm really excited because i love christmas at my house i'm gonna get it ready for a real old-fashioned italian christmas i got the mozzarella on the tree and everything huh don't be snide you know how great my italian christmases can be that's true i know actually it's a shame you're gonna miss my christmas dinner i know i i love to watch you carve the meatball that's something special no remarks cher you know you want to know something chastity was over today and you know what we did we made italian cranberry sauce i wondered why her feet were red you used to love my italian christmas remember we used to sit up late and wait for that big fat person with the red nose to come down the chimney yes i do remember that how is your mother anyway i can never understand why she didn't use the front door like everybody else all right cher you better watch out here yes and i'm telling you why cher why there's someone out there cher who sees you when you're sleeping yes who knows when you're awake who knows if you no in your case it's rona barrett right anyway folks tonight's our christmas show and it's a really a neat show and we're very proud of it yes and then we have some we have some really terrific people on it and one is our our favorite little christmas package chastity bono yeah ladies and gentlemen [Music] we also have a teeny weeny little surprise guest later on and also a wonderful man who has earned the respect and love of millions of television viewers throughout years sir the me listen you're embarrassing me i'm talking about captain kangaroo mr bob keisha [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it really is just great to be here with you both thank you very much it's nice of you to say that yeah you know what captain i mean your show has been on so long and sunny and i were always big fans and now chastity is a big fan it's just terrific oh it's crazy about you i know you know i i got the sweetest letter and i was really touched by it you know oh it was kind of printed all over the page kind of crooked printing and there are a lot of words that were misspelled and none of that mattered because through all of that the message was really clear oh that's cute you know i didn't even know that she wrote you a letter oh she didn't the letter ask you something how does a turkey pizza sound how do i know i don't do impressions son come here i gotta have a talk with you come on excuse me bub now listen you gotta be kidding about working christmas eve and christmas day see my little niece is coming over and she's expecting me to take her to the christmas pageant tonight yeah well call her and tell her you can't make it call her and tell her i can't make it yeah sure just call her and say you can't make it that's all no big deal merry christmas to you too she's a good sport you know i thought she'd be mad hey merry christmas to you too rosa sonny what don't throw the food around now what do you want what i just wanted to tell you something i think it's very important this here isn't exactly a gold mine you know this year place so how do you expect anybody to be coming in here in christmas day let alone christmas eve huh i'll tell you who she is that's who young lady come over here and sit right down here let me get a chair for you there you are my dear just sit right down there now let me ask you something how would you like to have a turkey pizza i want a turkey pizza correction nobody wants a pizza along 20th street with a 15-piece i turkey span playing the 12 days of christmas you know that tune yeah yeah when uh the uh light changed on eighth avenue and they swung right and i marched left and the last thing i heard was five golden rings so i thought that i'd stop in here to see if any one of you might have heard four calling first three frenchies you know that's really terrible i really feel sorry for you little girl that's really touches my heart i'd like to be able to help you out you want your arm hey luigi what are you doing here anyway get back to work now how would you like some pizza got some bad news for you scrooge here is gonna make me work on christmas eve well business is business but what kind of a person would ruin a little girl's christmas pageant all right you two i got to tell you something we are staying open and that's that you understand i have been working all night making turkey pizzas and we're staying open we're getting tired i'm gonna take a little rest i'm tired of arguing with you guys you watch the store all right come on honey you go with uncle luigi i gotta finish up these napkins oh man what do they know slowly up here at the top it's even lonelier at the bottom i'm gonna make a fortune this christmas this will be the only store that's open i'll show i'm really gonna show [Music] what is it who are you i am the ghost of pizza pass oh thank goodness for a minute i thought my sign fell down i'm trying to show you the way you used to be look it's the old neighborhood and look everyone's laughing why are they laughing look how happy they wants to get back to kansas to see auntie anne i think you got your stories mixed up probably made a wrong turn anyway the little girl wants to go to the christmas pageant and luigi he wants only one thing he does need a brain hey this little girl look over your shoulder look over there oh yeah see she doesn't need a pizza she wants her drum to go boom boom not her tummy tom tom gee i guess i've jerk you died that's your headstone let me read what it says here lies the remains of sonny who in his life made lots of money with pizzas of cheese and never did please he's gone away now ain't that funny hey put up a lousy rotten headstone like that the bombs from the mission they say that their savings are contributed oh yeah hey rosa luigi hi i can't hear you oh yeah i forgot hey rosa luigi you didn't forget me what's that that's one of your pizzas they bring one every week oh isn't that nice why because they love me no because the garbage men refused to take them to the dump that's horrible horrible that's horrible oh oh nothing's a matter everything hey i'm alive archer oh rosa rosa you're the greatest waitress in the world and you luigi you're the greatest waiter i've ever seen in my life and you're the prettiest little angel ever and you you have you have a great set of drums and you're the best beggar i've ever seen i don't do impressions and now i have an announcement to make everybody i know a little christmas cheer as of right now sunny's pizza is closed for the holidays how about that as a special treat we're gonna have the biggest grandest most delicious pizza you ever had in your life you wait a minute i'm not gonna make it we're gonna send out for it [Applause] [Music] it's the last time heartburn [Music] [Applause] oh this place is simply gene that tay alvin thank you oh alvin did your leg yeah i i i have to limp a little bit i dropped a meatball on my achilles tendon oh well this place is just terrific well how about something to nipple like alvin we just got here laverne you are such a clown sometimes yeah take off your coat sweetheart listen can i laverne yeah it's too early to be exchanging gifts but i'm so excited and i want to do this so much that i'd like to exchange gifts that we have for each other oh terrific album i can't wait for you to get mine mine is so perfect you're gonna love it i just know you're gonna love it love it love it and i can hardly wait for you to get mine you're just gonna love it too sweetie i know that's okay alvin you know oh listen darling it's not something that you can put under a christmas tree all right that's all right alvin because i know that it's hard to fit a big red convertible under a little tree like that you always are joking all the time but i love that about you thank you i know that's one of my better characteristics i'm light-hearted i want to tell you something else yes this is kind of a touchy moment so i'm gonna say it in a touching sort of way all right i well the gift i have for you took a lot of thought sweetheart and and something i knew you had your heart set on but it and well it's something that that will bring us closer together oh alvin how sweet my gift will bring us closer together too well laverne what i did was i sold my house so i could move into your place and live with you oh no alvin you shouldn't have oh that's okay sweetheart i wanted to no no but i mean you really shouldn't have you see my gift to you is that i sold my house so i could move in with you oh my goodness this is just like oh henry how can you think of the candy bar at a time like this see i was no it wasn't no laverne i'm talking about the writer oh henry's you see he wrote a story called gift of the magi about a couple who were very much in love yeah and the man sells his watch to buy a woman's comb for her hair see and she sells her beautiful long hair to buy a chain for his watch yeah but at least they had a place to live well alvin i got to be out of my place at the end of this week oh no and i have to be out of here by tomorrow oh no alvin what are we gonna do hey wait a minute laverne maybe it's a blessing in disguise come here let me tell you something of it this way sweetheart if if i had moved into your house yeah well it would always remember well it would always remind me that you and harry used to live in that home together you know yes and if i moved into your house would have always reminded me that you and myrna had lived there together that's right right but now you know what we can do we can pool our money and and just get a house for the two of us our own little love nest laverne and we can make a whole new life together my sweet darling you know what alvin you've just proposed to me yeah yes you certainly did you're kidding that couldn't have been a proposal no see a proposal is you're supposed to get down on one knee and you're supposed to class your hands together and and tell the loved one how much you christmas isn't it chess i mean opening all the presents and playing with all toys turn when do i the come on chess so one day of the year i get a little carried away you do the same on my birthday all right so two days out of the year tell you what we'll take turns okay fair enough okay okay what do you want to play with marionettes hey terrific i love to play with marinettes they're over there in the dollhouse aren't they yeah okay ah now terrific yeah i'm gonna play with the marionettes danny i thought it was my turn to play with it chass nagnag nag you'll get to work them i'll just watch you are sir excuse me but i wonder would you folks mind if that lady joined you at this table it seems that she's just a little bit homesick well uh just a bit i don't really i don't mr bradshaw you have a daughter just about her age i know you would like to make your daughter feel at home and you sir you do know what it is like to be lonely and all alone something like yourself ma'am when you they don't know how to enjoy christmas they really don't or celebrate that you know someone who does whoever he was right and wherever he is yeah that fella really was a cheery oh look at that
